Hey Andy, Been living with my 2018 Speedmaster for 2 years, beautiful black and white tank like the one you previously tested. It's my only vehicle, I use it daily for commuting all year round and at the weekend whenever we get a good day! What a machine! Endlessly comfortable, and no lower back pain at all, even if I'm 4 hours plus in the saddle on a ride out with the IAM. (upgraded to the comfort seat which looks identical to the seat on the new model you're enjoying here). Always a pleasure to ride, whatever the weather, because both the handling and grip are superb (Avon Cobra Chrome tyres, almost identical to stock which I replaced last summer). It happily keeps up with the big GS adventure bikes, even in the Twisties around the lake District and Northumberland when we're out for the day, although you do have to adapt and make more use of your lane in the hairpins in order to avoid scraping. Took my wife on a tour round Wales last spring and the NC500 in the summer... to my surprise the bike was able to handle some rather unnerving road surfaces effortlessly, even 2 up!!! Everywhere we went we found a dusty GS at the summit and received a very warm welcome from those sat next to them. I'll never sell my Speedmaster, it is incredibly capable, a real joy to own, the engine really is fantastic and I love the classic aesthetic. You get 120 to 150 miles out of a full tank, which was a concern fore on tour around the north coast of Scotland... But I actually managed very easily, didn't struggle at all, you just need to get comfortable having only 20 to 40 miles range left by the time you're at a pump haha. IMPORTANT: For those considering a Speedmaster: 1.)I advise buying 2019 or later model otherwise you run the risk of an expensive gear selector issue which must be repaired, possibly multiple times. It is a known fault that Triumph have been very quiet about. Thankfully my particular bike has not develop this fault and later models are entirely unaffected. 2.) It is Not a 2 up tourer, that pillion seat, even the upgraded one, is very uncomfortable for the pillion on long journeys. So whilst the machine is more than capable, do not buy for the purpose of 2 up touring (I didn't, but my wife decided she loved being on the bike with me at the weekend so much that she'd put up with the seat on tour). It's a fabulous 1 person tourer and absolutely wonderful for a weekend blast around the countryside with your pillion. 3.) If you take the plunge, get three very important accessories: A full size MadStad touring screen. Its fully adjustable and can be taken off or put on securely in 30 seconds flat; perfect for motorway cruising, and also for keeping the cold wet air off your chest in the winter. The OEM screen is pants... But the OEM Leather panniers x2 are FAB. Get heated grips, take your pick, OEM are pricey but smart and adequate. 4.) Be prepared to clean it weekly as a minimum. No point letting that chrome go to waste, there's a lot of it too. In the winter that also means a thorough daily rinse to avoid corrosion.
Thanks for this comment. I’ve been eying this bike as a daily driver/second vehicle beside the car my wife mostly uses. Been having concerns about regularly taking a passenger (sportster is awful 2up), seems like it will be fine for both of us around town or a day to the beach etc.
Some brilliant advice there thank you. I'm waiting for my 2022 model as my wife fancied coming on days out with me and I'm not confident taking her on my tall gs. I've ordered the big oem screen but will cancel this now on your recommendation. I wasn't sure about it anyway. Also ordered the wax cotton panniers and I've heard those are useless too. Looks like a radiator guard is a priority too. I'm starting to get buyers remorse a bit now as its a lot of money to fork out and the 3 month wait is making me over-think it! How have you found the bike since you commented?
I've been slightly under the weather with covid in the last few days, so got a lovely surprise this morning when some TMF merch was delivered that my wife had secretly ordered for me, when recovered I will be rocking TMF neck tube, t-shirt and key ring on my first ride out 🙂 I'm proud to give a little bit back to the channel for all the amazing content you've given me Andy 👍
I've had my new Speedmaster for about 5 weeks now. Very pleased with it, although it took a bit longer to get acclimatised to it than other bikes I've owned (it being my first cruiser). My only tip for anyone thinking of getting one, would be to get the optional radiator guard (£82 I think), because with the rather short front mudguard and the completely unprotected radiator. I discovered I was getting quite a few stone chips on the radiator with a few weeks. I've now ordered and fitted (very simple) a Triumph guard, which hopefully will stop this. In truth a guard probably should be fitted as standard. Other than that, a great bike. Very comfortable, great engine and handles surprisingly well for a cruiser.
It needs front fender. Seems they bobbed the most important part of the fender and left the rather useless part on. I wonder if it could be slid way down. Style and technology can either be a blessing or a curse.
great review as usual. I test rode the Bobber last year and loved the riding position, but i preferred the looks of the Speedmaster. I bought a Speedmaster, and ordered the Mid position pegs and Bobber Handlebars. Best of both worlds now. Beautiful bike!
I’m lucky enough to of bought the gold line version, the paint is amazing. The bike itself is very comfortable, lots of torque and rides really smooth, I’ve come from having Harleys but I’ve been struggling with the heavy clutch for a while now with arthritis in my left hand. The torque assist clutch has made a real difference for me, great bike.
I was nearly sold on this model few years ago. Then, a Harley dealer opened 5’ from my house and bought a Sportster 48. It was instant love. With it, I have come across a number of Triumphs and don’t regret my choice
There is no doubt Triumph makes bikes that look and ride great. Personally, if I was paying that kind of money on a bike I would want twin dials as I hate the single dial look.
Been riding and loving my 2018 model - I can’t rave enough about this bike - I hate to say this , not one problem after 25k miles and it’s easy to do your own oil , brake fluid changes etc .. if you think you want one but aren’t sure - do it!!!
Really enjoyed your review, I have the Goldline after nearly 10 years on the Thunderbird Storm, the Goldline is great to ride, comfy, handle bars are well positioned and looking forward to putting lots of kms on it.
Another good review , agree with you 100% on the instruments, it would be far more in keeping with the classic cruiser looks if Triumph had fitted it with a two separate clocks (speedo & tacho)
Hi had mine over 2 years , 16000 miles , black and white , gold lines ,no problems, love it , hopefully touring Spain this year, with my wife on her 500 Rebel covid permitting , love the videos !!
Triumph really are masters of the modern retro. Great looking bike but looks too low for a huge guy like myself. Nice to see Triumph building bikes at Hinckley on a recent tour, hope they continue to ramp up UK production. Looks like Triumph are setting up bike nights at the factory this year, as a local to Hinckley I'm looking forward to it.
@@fasthracing Stock Tiger 900's were coming off the line while I was there. Then onto the rolling road, tested through the gears and left to run until the fuel ran out. I believe they can build any model with this new line process. Definitely gave the impression they were gearing up for greater production at Hinckley. I'm guessing with the massively increased container and shipping costs it's much cheaper to package up any Thai built components and ship them to England than it is completed bikes as I believe Hinckley was the European distribution hub for all the bikes.
Had my first 'Triumph' experience yesterday in the form of a brand new Street Twin, at 5' 11" tall I found it a bit cramped but TMF, you are right, those twin engines are glorious! Cheers Martin (IOW)
Great review as usual! If I ever venture into the dark side of cruisers, this bike would be the option I would choose over the standard Harley fair. It looks like a well thought out bike. Classic cruiser.
swap the handlebar with the Bobber one (or a straight one anyway),put the foot levers back at the middle of the engine and you'll have a much better handling bike 🙂 Better look too and two seats "on demand".
Nice review! I have a 2012 Speedmaster and test rode this one a few weeks ago - completely different bike! The best way I could describe it was "easy". Easy to ride, easy to accelerate, easy to shift, easy on the eyes 😍. Don't forget, it does come in a beautiful two-tone Sapphire Black/Fusion White as well - which I actually like a bit better that the Goldline!
Good review Andy, I was sold after sitting on it at the NEC Bike Live 2017, I got mine in 2018 as they came available (2nd one sold in the West of Scotland!) and I love it, Cherry red like your test bike. As mentioned above - de -cat it and it becomes a better bike. It is smoother at low speed with the X pipe fitted ( easy mod ) and sounds even better! There are loads of tasteful little add ons available from the likes of Motone Customs too which just add to the classic look. Nothing better on a summers day on the East Coast of Scotland, roll on summer!
I’ve had mine since September, love it. Really comfy and loads of torque. The only down side apart from keeping on top of cleaning the chrome is that the is not enough travel in forks and can bottom out if easy if you hit a bit of rough road with a clunk! Other than that it’s the perfect bike for me and can’t wait for the sun to come back. Great review by the way! 👍
Andy, try looking for a new rear shock, changing for an aftermarket company like “fox” this will completely enhance the ride-ability and makes the bike 100% better
I rode one a couple years ago that was outfitted with mid-controls and it was much more comfortable. Hopefully you can get this option on the new Speedmaster. Made a world of difference!
Spot on review Andy. 👍 I have a Speedmaster Gold Line on order from last year. Having said that I love the Hopper Red so I am leaning towards that colour. I rode one in 2021 and thought it was very slightly better than the previous model, I think this was down to the new seat and the larger front forks (42mm to 47mm diameter). This bike somehow magically hides its weight compared to other bikes, including my Softail Deluxe which is listed at 305kgs (its probably 330kgs really) but the Speedmaster feels significantly lighter. In fact I rode the new Sportster S back in October and that felt much heavier and that is listed at 225kgs. There really is no comparison between these two bikes as they are so different but having waited 3 years for the new Harley to arrive and within minutes of riding it I ordered the Speedmaster. The Speedmaster really is an amazing bike. The only thing I might do to mine when it arrives is to fit mid controls (which is a Triumph option) as I think the bike looks perfect as it is. Thanks for the follow up review, I really enjoyed that. Nice jacket BTW 👍
Good to hear from you Graham, hope you're well? Good choice on the Speedmaster and centre pegs - be interested to hear how you get on with those! Very tempted buy one of these when the novelty of my Speed twin wears off....
I almost bought the Low Rider S after I test drove one at a Harley/Triumph/BMW dealership; but then right after, I test drove the SM and no contest. Hands down! I purchased the Goldline LE that afternoon - it was not even yet in the shop I bought it from. The sales guy told me that he rarely ever spends time with the Goldlines as they only get one in per year and are sold before arrival and rarely sit in the showroom. They just arrive, go to the service shop for prepping before being picked up by the new owner, sight unseen.
No "Hi Kids" this time. I love your honesty Andy. Good for sticking to your guns on how you feel about the bike and calling out the critics. Keep up the good work.
I recorded this in the autumn before Id made the decision to bring the kids back...it'll gradually start filtering in as my videos "in the can" catch up....stay tuned!
Loved the review and your positive comments about the seat. A few reviewers say its not comfortable over an hours riding though they are sometimes including travel limitations on the rear shock with their opinions.
Great review as always, I 100% agree with your disdain for the instrumentation, really would prefer the twin set up. I had a Triumph Thunderbird Storm a few years back and found a Dart flyscreen really improved the relief from buffeting, If I took the plunge on this bike I dare say I'd do the same again.
Yet another great video Mr Flyer and another motorbike designed for people at 5ft etc. I think I check my flat for hidden mics has when I said not many companies doing motorbike for the shorter people. We have three reviews from on motorbikes like this Triumph Speedmaster 2022. Can’t wait see more. Enjoyed the fashion section.
Errr ....... the front forward controls are not best suited to shorter riders or those with shorter legs as the stretch means you can't easily operate the gear and brake levers. I know as I am short and tried. After a while it got quite awkward and substantial discomfort set in on my test ride. Maybe there is scope for adjustment. The dealer didn't seemed bothered not offering to adjust the controls so they fitted me.
I'm only 5ft 5 and I currently ride a standard 2015 ZZR1400 Performance Sport,this style of bike isn't for me but each to their own. I've also owned a CBR600F,CBR1100XX Super Blackbird,CBR1000RR,Gen1 ZZR1400.
Wherever you stay, I just love the weather. I love rain and rainy season. May be if you just do a relaxing motovlogging, that's definitely the type of video I would watch! Awesome video.
Agree with you 100% about the single clock. This is the only thing that lets the bike down imho. A nicer large chromed clock would have been much much better or twin brush stainless steel clocks or aluminium clocks as fitted to the original Thruxton R would have made the bike truly epic. The single black plastic clock just looks cheap and .......... not so nice to me. Definitely the weakest part of the bike imho. Also once you hit 75-80mph it starts to get a bit ragged and run out of breath. 85-90mph and there is fair amount of vibration. 6th gear doesn't seem to do very much except bring the revs down a bit to make higher speed riding more bearable. Long motorway rides are not it's strong point nor what it was designed for. You are hanging on to it for dear life without a screen at motorway speeds anyway. A screen is needed for higher speed riding. However I found there is much to like about the bike just as you say. It is a joy to ride, so unintimidating and does look gorgeous. It's a hoot to cruise around B roads, back roads and lanes in rural country side between pretty villages cafes and pubs on a warm dry summers day. It's pretty agile for a cruiser and turns in fairly easily and as you say has got some shove. Gotta watch those footpegs though. It sounds pretty good as well with those pipes although the V&H ones sound even better but NLA for this later Euro 5 version. I also wish Triumph had given it 100bhp as well similar to the Speed Twin or Thruxton R/RS. It is a Speed Master after all.
It was between this and the bobber for me after seeing your initial review of both , great looking machines .got the bobber , now 3 years on after being HD sportys and can honestly say I've never missed them one bit , Who knows SM could still become my next bike 👍👍👍
Nice jacket. Finally some manufacturers are clueing up to the fact that if we can wear it off the bike too, it's a winner. On travels it's one less bit of kit to carry. Low speed tours don't need race level protection. Management approves so another tick in the box. One in tan please Tick in your box for riding through truly unpleasant weather for the cause. Nice one Happy travels 👍
Still loving my 2018 Speedy. Done a few mods on it, particularly pleased with the change over to standard position foot pegs. Liking the blue jacket btw👍
I've got a 20 version and still love it. Put Viking bags on it and not much else. One of the best riding bikes I've been on. They need to make that tank bigger though. It's a major drawback here in the states where gas stations can be far apart.
Great choice Freddie - if I didn't have my Speed Twin then this would be in my garage too...if and when I swap out the Speedy, it'll be for one of these - great bike....just makes you feel good when you ride it (though you'd look cooler on it than I!)...not sure about the pillion perch for Monika though??
@@TheMissendenFlyer It's so true- the feel good factor is incredible on these, and they really are very nice to ride and live with. The pillion comfort I think (hope!) will be ok with the comfort seat and backrest (maybe that's just wishful thinking though!:) ).
Not a cruiser afficiado myself, but this and the Meteor are lovely bikes. It was my mates Speedmaster, and your T120 review, that swayed me to replace my crashed Norge with a T120. Love it.
Great review. Really helpful. I have just sold my Triumph Street Triple R 765 and about to put a deposit on the 2022 Speedmaster ( Red Hopper color ) tomorrow. I haven’t been able to get a test ride of this bike though because of the shortage of these bikes here in Australia. I know it’s going to be a big switch for me moving in from a Naked bike to a cruiser. I have tried this on the shop floor and does feel comfortable to sit and the handle bars do make you feel relaxed. I am 5’8” and the seating position looks perfect. Read a few comments here talking about this bike not suitable for long rides ( 2-3 hr rides ). And also someone did mention the bike lacking the power at higher speeds. And of course the single display. Got me thinking now. I would see myself as a weekend rider and would do a few rides with my wife on pillion seat.
I keep looking at these on the ‘Tube’, thinking would I miss my Harley Superglide if I got one. These look as if they fit my type of cruising……..but would I miss that low done grunt. Excellent video as usual 👍
Hi Andy, I’ve had my Speedmaster since June 2018 and as you know, I love it. The sound, looks and comfort make it the ideal cruiser for me. I have the cream and black with gold lined coachwork and it looks fab. I have spent some funds on Vance n Hines exhausts (sound great) and some Motone bits and pieces in brass - definitely look good. Problems - well not many. The main ones are difficulty finding the right paddock stand, the front wire loom is attached to the “beach bars” with a type of elastic band - it works but it’s a bit naff and I see the new model hasn’t changed this! Get’s in the way when attaching a nav/gone holder. As you say grinding the pegs is fun and the single display rather than having two is a mistake. Great, great bike and I’ll never sell. Yours aye, Alan
One thing I don't understand Triumph continuing to do is using chrome plated spokes. I had a T100 and after the spoke tension was checked on a service the chrome started flaking off. Stainless spokes should be fitted on a bike classed as a premium product
I keep thinking about the Speedmaster as a possible upgrade from my Street Twin, but alloy wheels to resist winter salt and a blacked out engine and no chrome parts to rust would be better in my view for daily communting through all seasons. Thanks as ever!
As far as I am concerned, the main problem with the Speedmaster is that it really is a cruiser. It looks really good and I hope I can arrange for a test ride this spring. But I had some hopes it might be a possible downsized replacement for the Road King and with a 12l tank, non existent to spartan passenger accommodation and half baked luggage options it would seem the Triumph is not nearly enough of a tourer.
No it's not a bike I'd like to tour on particularly - that riding position does your back in after an hour or two - great for half hour blasts around the lanes on a Sunday or to the coffee shop though....
Triumph generally miss a lot of tricks in my view. For example the Thunderbird 1700 LT has no cruise control (and neither did the original Rocket touring) or hard luggage, and i agree it is hard to see the Speedmaster being able to tour especially with that tiny tank and as you say poor luggage options! It's a shame because in lots of ways they make very appealing bikes!
As you are the number 1 reviewer on RUclips, I would love you to do a proper test and review on breakdown recovery for motorcycles. Bikes are getting more and more technical, and what is soon to be a problem with modern bikes, electrical gremlins. I ask this after having a fault with a keyless none starting bike, caused by the key and bike not talking to each other, when stopped at a petrol station.
@@TheMissendenFlyer but you are ! Any bike I show an interest in I always check to see if you have reviewed already- don’t agree with them all but you provide a good benchmark
Another great video by TMF! Love the subtle improvements to the bike and thought about getting one last year but decided on the T-120 Black (2022). I came from a cruiser and the biggest complaint I have with them, almost across the board, is the size of the tank.
Great bike. Nice review. Only the dash is from the 20 century. Look at the dash of the new Indian and HD. Bikes with the same retro look like this Speedmaster. Also small and round and even got map Navigation. It’s a pity Triumph is asleep here.
I've owned a 2019 black with coach line version from new. Just love it and don't think I could ever sell it. One improvement I made was to get the comfort seat, which staves off the numb bum with the standard seat. I think the same as the now standard seat. The bike never fails to put a smile on my face.
I just bought one and can't wait for spring to arrive. It's way too cold and too much snow & ice here in upstate New York. So I watch your video instead till then.
Has to be one of the most beautiful cruisers if not motorcycles out there today. The dimensions, look, style and fit and finish are all just so synchronous and or balanced. I know you mentioned how comfortable the seat is but can you, or anyone that might read this that has ridden one, give any insight on carrying a passenger, bottoming out either with or without passenger, ride quality? T.M.F. I realise you're not the overly large thus you suit the bike perfectly and I don't imagine you having this problem. I'm around 102 kilos or 230lbs. Thank you as always for another lovely review! Cheers! Also, really nice jacket! Thanks for mentioning the brand as will have to check it out.
Yes it's a cool jacket - the brand is Segura. I've not ridden the Speedmaster with a passenger so can't comment on that I'm afraid.....the passenger seat pad looks small to me!
Failed banking app to make the transfer at the dealers for a 2018 Speedmaster meant cold feet the next day, so instead bought an FTR and never looked back.
No mention that compared to previous models the current range of Speedmasters are designed a tad small. Compare to older Speedmaster/America and they are big enough to take 2 people comfortably and tour on which is something this bike would be a challenge on.
As I get older (and wider) this bike is a tempting replacement for my Scrambler 1200 XC. Especially the gold line version. I wish they had mid foot pegs, a bit straighter bars, and a 16+ litre fuel tank. I would agree, dual clocks would be a nice touch as well. As always wonderful review, too bad it wasn’t a nice sunny summer day.
Very happen owner of an original 2018 press launch bike, bought from Triumph UK. Even have a picture of it lined up with 7 other identical bikes in California! Pluses: Great engine, cool looks especially with the GF on board. Drawbacks: Smallish tank, scraping the foot pegs.
Great honest review, yes nice bike, but just overpriced in my opinion by £1500 and £800 for hand painted pinstripes is obviously why the bike now comes with plain paintwork on the tank, while on about the tank, it is a little small at 12 litre and cant see a real reason for that, especially when you see the gaps between the front of the seat and the tank. And lastly i agree fully with you with regards the single black instrument clock, this bike screams out for a pair of chrome instrument clocks, if only to follow the rest of the look and styling that Triumph has tried to achieve.
I had the dealer move the foot controls to center like the bobber, the forward controls are easily removed with the bracket that holds them. I prefer more center position. Big handlebars are excellent though I did have those swapped to T120 bars for a bit of a lean forward position. You will need new clutch and brake cables to prevent kinking. Original ones are too long. However give the big bars a chance, they are terrific. Hindsight I would just keep them. More comfortable on long rides than the T120 bars. Absolutely beautiful bike to ride. 👍 no chance you’ll be disappointed.
I bought mine last summer. Paid £10,800 for a demonstrator with 100miles on. I swapped for the optional smaller led indicators and the radiator protection. Good grunt but a bit vibey and breathless if you rev it has been my experience have not noticed pegs grinding but that maybe says I’m not going fast enough. You get a lot of people looking at it so it must be a good looking bike. Otherwise brilliant and I would certainly buy again.
Stunning looking bike in every way it has all the power anyone would need real world power, and it looks super comfy to would have to stump up the extra cash for the Goldline model as it looks even more stunning
Triumph.. please make a 'Black' style edition for those of us who want/need less chrome, but also want/need the practicality we don't get from a Bobber.
Stunning looking bike what a real shame they left the front and rear mud guards black they would have looked so much better in red like the tank, shame also about the fuel tank 12 Ltrs is not good, but it would not stop me from buying one, would go for the GOLDLINE its got the best paint job
I wish every review had a 75-79 mph highway angle to it. I think the T120 vs. T100 never even mentioned the 6th gear because this angle is not covered. I don't ride bikes for highway, but if one has a great advantage there it would be nice to know because they are inevitable part of the ownership experience, at least here in the US
I thought about getting that bike..but the T120 Black - I couldn't turn away from...great review - secretly I think you like following the White Vans!!! - HA!!!
Very nice Mr Flyer! The £800 premium for the Goldline is a bit much though. For less than that you could have a custom job done on the the standard tank? Ditching the heated grips in favour of the cruise control is an error in my opinion but Triumph are clearly appeasing different markets? Probably the USA. You can have OEM heated grips fitted of course (the wiring is already there and the tell-tale on the dash just needs enabling in software) but they are a bit pricey at around £250 fitted. I like what you said about the brake reservoir and my other half Kel's would agree. She calls the plastic jars "p*ss pots" 😂
The bike looks like it would benefit from a decent touring screen, but much prefer the old pukka genuine classic Trumpets . I reckon although not a big fan of modern BMW ‘s either ,I would prefer the big boxer cruiser over this triumph if I was in the market for a two wheeled locomotive . This bike is one for your dedicated Triumph fans . The Jacket looks sound & not expensive as bike gear goes ,I am not too sure about the gloves that have zips Mr Flyer they tend to play up ,& jam . My RST & Alpine stars gloves have more reliable Velcro fastening & back of wrist strap adjusters .& both pairs still new . Good review as usual 👍
Lovely bike, if I could afford any Triumph I would go for this one I think. Dunno if there are any aftermarket pipes that are a bit straighter, I guess this arrangement is for emissions, or noise regulation. I remember the Triumph America which was similar but I think is gone now, never could quite get along with the name “Triumph America”, but “Speedmaster” is considerably better. Great video as always.
I have a 2021 and love it for long distance cruising. The factory exhaust was the 1st thing I changed out and replaced with British Customs peashooters. I wish it had a separate dial tach instead of the digital one.
Great review got me thinking I'm between getting a Indian chief limited or a Heritage now maybe a Speedmaster is on the short list ..windshield options ?
@@TheMissendenFlyer totally agree... it feels like it would be a great compliment to the GS, rather than a replacement. I too don’t have space in the garage for that! (Due to having a smaller garage and boxes and boxes of bl00dy Christmas decorations!) :)
Another great review. Loved watching it even though I’m not really in the market for one. Would have one of had a massive garage & unlimited funds. Really like the mix of GoPro & Insta360 - just the right balance of shots 👍
Great review. I was really pleased to see you cover this bike again, as it's currently top of my want list. I nearly bought one last time I changed my bike but opted for the 1200 Scrambler instead, because of its pillion space... but I've still got a yearning for a big cruiser. The one you tested had the pillion removed, but is be interested to know what the pillion seat is like, especially if I fitted the optional back rest.
Upgraded pillion seat to delux option. Is comfy and particularly good with back rest. Only downside is that the side bags need removing to be able to use the rear pegs
I have the new version 21 plate in sapphire black and fusion white an it’s stunning, machine! Rock up at a bike night and it’s a real head turner. I love the engine and I’ve found that it likes to rev. The power in this guise is phenomenal allowing a spirited ride if you feel that way inclined. Or you can just bumble along. It’s quite happy doing either. Great ride great bike. Very very impressed l. Oh btw, the bars are called “beach bars” the flatter straighter ones re the “maverick” option
Thanks for the updated video. I purchased a 2018 Speedmaster after watching your videos! Love the bike, you are right about the speedometer I wish it had the clocks from the T120 or something more premium. PS. I own a white van also 🚐
In the U.S. we call them "Beach bars", many of the bicycles on the beach sport this style of handlebars. Many early Harley's sported them too. I look at what you call "fake carbs" and I quite like the styling of item which can be very ugly on other bikes unless completely hidden. Additionally it makes it easy to get at when you need to get at it and adding pod filters versus those hidden ones. I don't own one and probably never will but I really do like the styling on it.

Thanks for the real world tips!
Wear it with care - it's like catnip to the ladies!
In view of this I mentioned it to my dealer and he is going to fit one to my bike F.O.C. before delivery.
It needs front fender. Seems they bobbed the most important part of the fender and left the rather useless part on. I wonder if it could be slid way down. Style and technology can either be a blessing or a curse.
I added a Pyramid fender extension on mine as well,
great review as usual. I test rode the Bobber last year and loved the riding position, but i preferred the looks of the Speedmaster. I bought a Speedmaster, and ordered the Mid position pegs and Bobber Handlebars. Best of both worlds now. Beautiful bike!
Brilliant - those mid pegs sound like a great idea!
Agreed. The clutch is amazing.
You may end up trying a Honda with the DCT transmission.
Good stuff Gary!
@@davidreid5599 I’ve ridden one, the rebel 1100, amazing bike. If my hands get worse that’s my next port of call 👍
Hi I have an 2018 model my clutch is light just thought I would let you know !
I love the single clock!
The single dial is traditional on cruisers
@@MrLou8888 I know that, Its a matter of taste, its just as well I dont own one then.
Absolutely agree the single clock doesn’t look good on any bike particularly a retro design
Looks like my honda monkey bike from the helmet cam.
Been riding and loving my 2018 model - I can’t rave enough about this bike - I hate to say this , not one problem after 25k miles and it’s easy to do your own oil , brake fluid changes etc .. if you think you want one but aren’t sure - do it!!!
Im sure I want one!
Really enjoyed your review, I have the Goldline after nearly 10 years on the Thunderbird Storm, the Goldline is great to ride, comfy, handle bars are well positioned and looking forward to putting lots of kms on it.
Thanks for doing the update video. I am still on my 2018 Speedmaster. Still loving it.
Great to hear!
Andy the true adventure rider. Damp roads in December on a loaner bike!! Another quality review including bloopers. 👍👍🙋♂️
Cheers John!
Another grea review Andy.. But as a cruiser I wish it would have shaft or belt final drive due to no centrestand for chain maintenance
Thanks for watching Keith - enjoy riding in Spain!
I wish I was a local, sound like fun!
Would like to see a Triumph shaft drive on Triumph 1200 bikes . Presently only the Triumph Rocket 2500 is blessed with a maintenance free shaft drive
I ventured to the dark side with a Yam XVS 950 midnight star and I love it!
I've had several Harleys and would agree. The finish on the Triumph is better and would stand up to the British weather better 👍
swap the handlebar with the Bobber one (or a straight one anyway),put the foot levers back at the middle of the engine and you'll have a much better handling bike 🙂 Better look too and two seats "on demand".
Good to know
I love my Speedmaster. I've had the new one for two years and it runs extremely well
Nice review!
Amen to that!
Glad you like the bike Andy - thanks for stopping by and the real world feedback!
Andy, try looking for a new rear shock, changing for an aftermarket company like “fox” this will completely enhance the ride-ability and makes the bike 100% better
I wonder if those forks can be fixed not to do that?
@@adrianj1000 Good to know
I rode one a couple years ago that was outfitted with mid-controls and it was much more comfortable. Hopefully you can get this option on the new Speedmaster. Made a world of difference!
Apparantly you can as a dealer fit option - sounds like a great idea to me!
Spot on review Andy. 👍
I have a Speedmaster Gold Line on order from last year.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Thanks Andy, I am well thanks. Will keep you updated on the Speedmaster when she arrives... 👍
I had a Triumph Thunderbird Storm a few years back and found a Dart flyscreen really improved the relief from buffeting, If I took the plunge on this bike I dare say I'd do the same again.
and a front mudguard fender extender from the look of it
Yet another great video Mr Flyer and another motorbike designed for people at 5ft etc.
I'm only 5ft 5 and I currently ride a standard 2015 ZZR1400 Performance Sport, this style of bike isn't for me but each to their own.
I've also owned a CBR600F,CBR1100XX Super Blackbird,CBR1000RR,Gen1 ZZR1400.
Transpires you can get the dealer to fit mid pegs on the bike - perfect for shorter riders!
Wherever you stay, I just love the weather. I love rain and rainy season. May be if you just do a relaxing motovlogging, that's definitely the type of video I would watch! Awesome video.
I plan to do more vlogging style videos over the next few mo this….
Indeed Alex good pint! Thanks for watching one again - appreciate all your spport!
Propably the best looking bike in the Triumph lineup. I could see myself on that one, absolutely. Much more to my taste than the american cruisers.
It was between this and the bobber for me after seeing your initial review of both , great looking machines .got the bobber , now 3 years on after being HD sportys and can honestly say I've never missed them one bit , Who knows SM could still become my next bike 👍👍👍
Nice one!
Nice jacket. Finally some manufacturers are clueing up to the fact that if we can wear it off the bike too, it's a winner.
On travels it's one less bit of kit to carry. Low speed tours don't need race level protection. Management approves so another tick in the box.
One in tan please
Tick in your box for riding through truly unpleasant weather for the cause.
Nice one
Happy travels 👍
Cheers TT - I'm glad you appreciate my efforts for you! :0)
Still loving my 2018 Speedy. Done a few mods on it, particularly pleased with the change over to standard position foot pegs. Liking the blue jacket btw👍
Yes it’s a great bike isn’t it, I’m glad you like the jacket!
Came so very close to buying this recently, but ultimately decided on range. Still love this bike!
Yes it's perfect as a second fun bike for Sunday rides, but as your only machine might struggle a little....
I've got a 20 version and still love it. Put Viking bags on it and not much else. One of the best riding bikes I've been on. They need to make that tank bigger though. It's a major drawback here in the states where gas stations can be far apart.
great review! Such a lovely bike it does the retro thing so well. Triumphs design really knocking it out.
That motorcycle really is a piece of art, looks fantastic.
Such a beautiful bike- probably the next one for me!
That's a surprise. Such a low seat for a tall fella, plus not so comfy a pillion seat for Monica. (Or will she be riding solo soon?) :)
Yeah, Freddie looks cool on any Triumph. Us older blokes have to rely on keeping the helmet on just feeling cool.
Speak for yourself Julian!! ;0)
@@TheMissendenFlyer It's so true- the feel good factor is incredible on these, and they really are very nice to ride and live with. The pillion comfort I think (hope!) will be ok with the comfort seat and backrest (maybe that's just wishful thinking though!:) ).
Couldn't agree more on the 1200, 270deg crank motor and calibration is a testament to Powertrain development team at Triumph UK! Great video sir
Thank you!
Not a cruiser afficiado myself, but this and the Meteor are lovely bikes. It was my mates Speedmaster, and your T120 review, that swayed me to replace my crashed Norge with a T120. Love it.
Good to hear Laurie!
You'll love it!
I keep looking at these on the ‘Tube’, thinking would I miss my Harley Superglide if I got one. These look as if they fit my type of cruising……..but would I miss that low done grunt.
Excellent video as usual 👍
There's plenty of low down grunt on these too - I really don't think you would miss it - can you get a test ride?
I’m always amazed and intrigued how massive your registration number plates are in UK.
Yes ugly mothers aren't they!
I don't know if you read comments on vids this far back, but today I part-exed my R9T for a new 2023 Speedmaster Chrome. So now I'm a Triumph fanboy!
Cool! (I read all comments!)
Nice one Alan - good to hear from you as ever!
One thing I don't understand Triumph continuing to do is using chrome plated spokes. I had a T100 and after the spoke tension was checked on a service the chrome started flaking off. Stainless spokes should be fitted on a bike classed as a premium product
Terrific review as always. I bought one last year but the new model. It is black and white but does have the gold hand painted pinstriping.
I keep thinking about the Speedmaster as a possible upgrade from my Street Twin, but alloy wheels to resist winter salt and a blacked out engine and no chrome parts to rust would be better in my view for daily communting through all seasons. Thanks as ever!
Yes fair point....
Yes that is something that concerns me too - kind of you to call me the number 1 reviewer!! I'm not sure about that but thanks anyway!!
Yes a common complaint Rick it seems...
Love all the new camera angles! Great stuff!
Thanks for noticing!
Great bike. Nice review. Only the dash is from the 20 century. Look at the dash of the new Indian and HD. Bikes with the same retro look like this Speedmaster. Also small and round and even got map Navigation. It’s a pity Triumph is asleep here.
Yes I do agree on that, the one thing that lets this bike down IMO....
I remember sitting on the Speedmaster at a triumph demo, it was like putting on a pair of your favourite, most comfortable slippers!
Yes it is a nice place to be for sure....
A good looking bike & great review with nice editing as ever. Not quite ready for a foot forward cruiser just yet personally but definitely get it.
When you do - this is the one to have!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Understood. : )
Great review as always. Looking forward to your review of the Tiger 660 Sport in the future.
You and me both!
I've owned a 2019 black with coach line version from new. Just love it and don't think I could ever sell it. One improvement I made was to get the comfort seat, which staves off the numb bum with the standard seat. I think the same as the now standard seat. The bike never fails to put a smile on my face.
...which is what they're all about right?
@@TheMissendenFlyer it's also the bike that non bikers stop and comment on what a great looking bike it is. Great channel BTW
I just bought one and can't wait for spring to arrive. It's way too cold and too much snow & ice here in upstate New York. So I watch your video instead till then.
Congratulations and keep warm!
I do miss my Triumph, Great review, The bike looks and sounds amazing.
Doesn't it just!
Saddle pops off and very easy to adjust rear suspension
No mention that compared to previous models the current range of Speedmasters are designed a tad small. Compare to older Speedmaster/America and they are big enough to take 2 people comfortably and tour on which is something this bike would be a challenge on.
Agreed....especially with that pillion seat...
Yes sadly winter always spoils the biking fun! It transpires you can get dealers to fit mid pegs according to one of the comments on here?
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yes you can get the mid peg option at a cost of about £400.
Well worth it I reckon!
Brilliant - hope you got a good deal, those journos can't be trusted on press launches!!! :0)
First order of business for the new owner - a fender extender!
Just bought a2022. Just thoroughly enjoying it. So different than my 08 America However I did replace the bars. 8”narrow mini apes.
Nice bike. I’m going to a Triumph event this weekend so I’ll be sure to give this one a go.
Have your wallet ready Doug!
Glad we concur! Thanks for watching....
Great review Andy! Bought the jacket off Mortocard £165.00 (delivered) code 40 for discount - I couldn’t believe the difference in price Andy
Nice one!
I didn't know central footpegs were an option....interesting!
Another good video. I often wish, when I swapped my Triumph America, I'd gone for the Speedmaster.
Yes lovely machine for sure....
Nice bike. Great review as always. I will be getting a test ride as soon as the weather better.
Have fun!
Good deal you got by the sounds of it!
Thanks for another good real-world review. If I had any use for a cruiser, this may be the one I’d have. But I don’t. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching!
Stunning looking bike in every way it has all the power anyone would need real world power, and it looks super comfy to would have to stump up the extra cash for the Goldline model as it looks even more stunning
Gorgeous and comfortable, I ride a Thruxton TFC and would love to have a Speedy too
Hi Andy Just bought the Gold Line version of this bike today😀
Congratulations and enjoy!
Love the jacket, thanks for the fashion review
No problem!
Thanks for the great video, are the wheels real spokes? I mean tubeless or tubed tyres
I don't remember off the top of my head - sorry!
Triumph.. please make a 'Black' style edition for those of us who want/need less chrome, but also want/need the practicality we don't get from a Bobber.
Stunning looking bike what a real shame they left the front and rear mud guards black they would have looked so much better in red like the tank, shame also about the fuel tank 12 Ltrs is not good, but it would not stop me from buying one, would go for the GOLDLINE its got the best paint job
Like these but £800 extra for the gold line???? No thanks. If only they did it with a nice clean belt drive .
I know a paint shop that will custom paint your entire bike with any style/detail you want for 1000£ haha
Awesome review. Shooting for my first Triumph soon - I am leaning towards the t120 for ease of use around city but this bikes image talks to me!
Nice one!
Glad we concur Garry!
Cheers MA - always good to know you're out there!
Yes I agree on the naming convention for sure....
I have a 2021 and love it for long distance cruising. The factory exhaust was the 1st thing I changed out and replaced with British Customs peashooters. I wish it had a separate dial tach instead of the digital one.
Yes me too...lovely bike though none the less....
Great review got me thinking I'm between getting a Indian chief limited or a Heritage now maybe a Speedmaster is on the short list ..windshield options ?
I think there are some yes....but for me it spoils the look of the bike
Great review... this is one of the few bikes that could tear me away from my GSA. Such a beautiful machine. I must have a go on one.
Go for it! ...it's not a do it all like the GS though, more of a second bike to compliment it....
@@TheMissendenFlyer totally agree... it feels like it would be a great compliment to the GS, rather than a replacement. I too don’t have space in the garage for that! (Due to having a smaller garage and boxes and boxes of bl00dy Christmas decorations!) :)
Hm, I just dropped my f 850gs so to have a cruiser (preferably Speedmaster). And I wouldn’t perceive it as “the second bike”))))
Another great review. Loved watching it even though I’m not really in the market for one. Would have one of had a massive garage & unlimited funds. Really like the mix of GoPro & Insta360 - just the right balance of shots 👍
Thanks for that feedback David - appreciated!
@@malcolmrann6274 That's useful to know, thanks.
Yes I was too...if I had room I'd have one.....
Thanks again top review upfront and honest no nonsense plenty of content 👍. Just how we like it.
No problem 👍
Thanks for the updated video. I purchased a 2018 Speedmaster after watching your videos! Love the bike, you are right about the speedometer I wish it had the clocks from the T120 or something more premium.
PS. I own a white van also 🚐
...and it was all going so well....
In the U.S. we call them "Beach bars", many of the bicycles on the beach sport this style of handlebars.
Yes me too...thanks for watching and for stopping by once again!
