Congratulations on being the only reviewer, ever, to test the lights at night. As a serious biker, I've always found test reviews lacking in this regard. Keep up the good work.

Hi John, have you bought one since and if so how have you found it for comfort. It's the only thing worrying me as I have a really bad back, feet forward worries me on long rides, currently have a Yamaha MT07, looking to upgrade.
Just bought one, but whoever originally bought it added all the extras, windscreen, sissy bar, heated grips, cruise control, dresser bars, comfort pack and panniers. Can’t wait to pick it up next week.
I picked my Speedy up on Tuesday and love it, only done 60 km on it so far but looking forward to going for a spin this weekend. it's as light as a feather compared to the Storm I had. been looking forward to this review and you have nailed it as usual. I put the panniers on and yes, they look crap but are handy. new leather quilted seat and sissy bar will be added. fortunately the panniers are easily removed because they will rub the calves of any pillion you have, so be warned. I have the black Vance and Hines pipes too which look and sound very nice.
TMF - this has been one of the BEST bike reviews I have come across. Just stumbled across a 2019 Speedmaster at a local dealer yesterday which has been kitted out a bit with floorboards, windscreen, upgraded seat, upgraded pillion back rest, Mini ape bars and maybe one or two other bits and bobs. The bike looked sweet and felt fantastic to sit on. Got me interested in digging up a bit of info on Speed Master and so found your review. Excellent review and very helpful. Unfortunately I am not in the position to upgrade my current bike for at least 6 to 8 months, otherwise I would be back at the dealer tomorrow to take the bike for a test ride and go from there.......
I love your reviews! I own this bike for 3 seasons - I don’t ride it in the winter here in New England .. I watch these videos, and it helps me deal with seasonal blues 👍🏻
Hi TMF - yes, as others have noted, a very well balanced review. I’ve had mine since the summer and had the sissy bar, engine protectors, V&H pipes, heated grips and lots of other goodies fitted. I haven’t yet decided on bags, like you I don’t like the Harley-type leather arrangements, so I’ve been using a ruck sack and that doesn’t work for overnighters. Front suspension travel is a little limited but generally not an issue. Early grounding of the foot pegs enforces a slight change in riding style but again not an issue. Thanks again and hope to meet up on Sunday? Yours aye, Alan

LOL, laughed when you said about your foot touching the ground. I test rode a Triumph Thunderbird a few years ago, barrelling into a corner, heel touched the deck and ripped my foot clean of the peg, nearly went straight off the road. Id like to say my skill kept me on the tarmac and got me round the bend but it probably had more to do with the £3000 deposit i had to put down on the bike for the test ride.
I’ve been on a thruxton since 2014 and I’m 6’3” and approaching my 40’s. I’ll be test riding this bike on Sunday. Hopefully my knees will love it. Good review and very comprehensive. I agree the back seat and sissy bar are a must and I’ll be fitting those if I get it
I was a bit surprised to see only 113 miles after a fill up! Triumph suggest you should achieve over 150 miles from a full tank. I'm hoping they're correct as I've just bought an '18 plate Speedmaster for two up touring. Good review as usual TMF, thanks.
Hi Pete, just wondered how you’ve got on with your Speedmaster regarding touring? Ive just bought one intending to tour 2 up, would love to hear your thoughts and which touring accessories you purchased for it. Cheers.
@@hydronewbie sadly the 2 up touring never happened. I fitted a custom pillion seat, Triumph screen, hard panniers and Hepco & Becker top box. My better half wasn't comfortable (after Goldwing), covid came along and I had some serious health issues, so the Speedy is now for sale!
@@kernowwing thanks for the reply and sorry 😞 to hear of your health issues. I’m looking to order the touring screen from triumph would you recommend it? What make panniers did you fit to the bike? Thanks again.
@@hydronewbie the Triumph screen is quite effective but very expensive. I might have tried a Dart Marlin had the Triumph screen not been fitted when I bought the bike. I fitted S/H Givi panniers but the missus found they rubbed her legs, so that was a non-starter. Cheers, Pete.
This is a review worth the name! Well done! I had the old Speedmaster (-07) for 9 years and 96 000km. Didn't even have to adjust valves! Look forward to your (hopefully) testride on the Speed Twin!
Nice review. I’ve had my Speedmaster for a few weeks; I’m taking it in this morning for the break-in servicing with about 750 miles on it so far. I’m a backroads, weekend cruiser, and this bike is perfect for that relaxed style of riding. If I were planning on spending a lot of time riding on the Interstate, I suppose I’d get the windscreen and/or the straight bars so I could lean forward a bit, but I can tolerate 30-60 minutes of gripping the beach bars for dear life when I get above 65 MPH. I have to give you a big thanks for your videos about ACF-50. I gave the bike a spray-down last weekend, so I should be protected until the spring. After watching your mishap with the high-pressure sprayer, I went to the gardening store and bought a little plant mister for about 10 dollars. Once pumped up, the bottle maintains pressure and (assuming the ACF-50 is somewhat warm) sprays it in a very fine mist. Much better than the little squirt bottle that comes with the 1 qt bottle.
Just had a go on one if these at destination triumph by guildford, my god they sound nice, and with the comfort seats and back rest, ridiculously comfortable for even 2 people. Lovely bike, especially with the highway pack fitted (comfort seats, backrest, windscreen and panniers)... i’ll have to get one once i can afford it!
Hello, my name is James and I'm from Berlin in Germany. I know that this is not a starter bike, but I’m 54 years of age and it's my second attempt to finally ride a nice Motorcycle. So, I think I should be capable to handle this beauty when I'm finally done doing the big license. I only have a car license, but don't want to own one, because I'm from the downtown area. Anyway, after my Sportster that I never been able to ride ’cause of different reasons I finally found a way to start all over again and I think that this would be the perfect choice. Your Vlog is very informative and it convinced me to get one of those and I just wanted to say hello and thanks for showing the good and not so good things about it. There are just little things that I'm not worried about. Looking forward to see more of cool things on your channel. 👍
Just bought the 2022 Speedmaster; I think they saw this review as many of those issues over time that you mentioned are now resolved. The lights are now controlled by just one switch and the gauge lights are green for daytime and blue for nighttime. Simple fix. The pillion seat is about 1/2 inch thicker, and I bought the back pad and luggage rack that makes it much more comfortable for the 2nd rider, plus luggage. The brakes are awesome, so not sure if they enhanced them, but they did put on thicker forks (47mm.) The exhaust sound is just as brilliant as your riding review, no aftermarket exhaust necessary. .It now comes with the comfort seat - about as comfortable as any seat can be. Tank color is awesome as I bought the Goldline, but when cruising it gets about 160 miles on a full tank, or close to 60mpg. No complaints. If you push it, then yes, about 130 miles on a tank. I love the single instrument gauge. It has all the information I need at the press of a button. Oh, traction control is awesome too, along with 2 riding modes, rain, which brings down the torque, or road, which kicks butt. ABS can be disengaged. Wind blast can be reduced with a touring screen (I bought aftermarket flyscreen and touring screen.) Oh, scraping pegs, no problem, but I added a footboard which allows a little more lean before scraping. Thanks for your excellent in depth review. It helped me make the choice over a Harley :)
TMF - love your videos, you would probably know by now these are available with cushioned back rest for pillion & spring loaded snap on/off screen for touring, keep the Vida coming I love them from Aus 👍
Hi Andy I forgive you, for entered the roundabout in the Rain and calling it a (Honda Speedmaster ? ) I had a laugh with that one! you did a great job on the Review and you pointed out what a great Bike Triumph have made here! not a sports bike but still plenty of punch and enjoyment to be had on it, have. a great day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Loved the in depth review on this bike, keep them coming! Preferred the in garage review rathr than when your on the bike as it hurts my eyes watching but loved the review all the same!
I'm picking up my Speedmaster in a week or two. Can't wait! Your comments about the centre stand are interesting ... I haven't owned many cruisers, but I've ridden a few, and they have all been guilty of this omission. It isn't available as an option for the Speedmaster, either. I think it might be a ground clearance issue, but I don't know for sure. Or perhaps an aesthetic consideration? Anyway, a couple of paddock stand bobbins on the rear frame do the trick for cleaning and oiling.
Hi. I’m thinking about a Speedmaster and your video was/is an excellent resource. Thanks a lot. And, having lived in High Wycombe for many years about 25 years ago, it was lovely to see some familiar roads. I’ve been in Australia for 25 years. Thanks a lot.
The Speedmaster does have traction control (ttc in the menu). You can turn it off and on independent of riding mode. Good review btw.. Loving my Speedmaster!
Great review, I've done 350 miles on mine now and pretty much agree with you. I've got the heated grips and they are lovely. Personally, I don't mind the rubber bands on the bars, if you want to change them it's quite easily done. Totally agree with the single clock, Bonneville ones would be better. Lack of a centre stand is a pain, I got a paddock stand with castor wheels which makes it very manoeuvrable. You should buy one! Jay Leno did a review on this bike and he was pretty smitten as well. Hope to see you Sunday at NEC
just thought you might like to know that triumph and over manufactures make full windscreens for this bike in the triumph menu I think its called the touring screen and you can get a top box and hard panniers from manufactures for it so it can be a full touring bike oh and an adjustable seat with lumbar support as well plus you can get different handlebars and heated grips.
Nice review even though I never was too fond of low rider type bikes. (I am a T120/Thruxton fan). Fuel cap is beautiful but when you have extra keys on the ring such as the one for your disc and chain lock you have to be careful they don't scratch the paint which they will do if you remove and replace the cap carelessly. Its one of the Triumph's that an aftermarket windscreen would suit.
Great review sir - she’s a gorgeous bike. The black & white sets it off perfectly, and a great proper sound with the different crank setup. I had to jump over to the triumph website and they’ve got a great picture of a guy with a vintage style black leather jacket with a big white stripe and open face helmet - quite a cool look! Considering how popular the Mini is here, I’m surprised I don’t see more of these around SoCal. Great review - cheers! 👌🏼
Back from the NEC and have fallen in love with all things Triumph! Surprisingly at 6’5 i can fit on a Scrambler, T120 and a Speedmaster and love them all. I predict some road testing coming up!
TMF, not quite sure how to take that. I make a positive remark, reinforcing the quality and longevity of the product you are reviewing and you come back with Futuristic.. We cant all access brand new bikes at over 10k, nor do we get to blag freebie rides.
Just found your channel and really enjoyed your reviews. Speedmaster is beautiful. Haven’t had a bike for about 18 years because of a ruptured disk in my lower back. I’m looking to try again and this Triumph will be high on my list to buy.
I’ve had my cranberry red version for a year and three months now. I could name off a lot of little quirks it has but I won’t. It is a pleasure to ride.
Nice review, TMF. Never been a cruiser person myself, but you made it sound delightful. One pick for me: I wish triumph would get away from the seems at the bottom of their fuel tanks - round them off and make them look less "pressed steel" looking. Just a nit pick, but I think it would add an air of quality to them.
Hi, this is Mahesh from India. Thanks a lot for this review. I am very interested in the speedmaster and this video really helped. Thanks a lot. Regards. Mahesh
Did u buy it man..I am interested in buying speedmaster in india..but worried about the ground clearance as the roads we are having here in kerala has all the bumps and potholes you can find..
I love that you felt the need to stop and explain what "my girls" means hahah Great video as always and a very nice looking bike. Of all the cruisers, this one gets me going.
I find the petrol cap annoying the fact the key does not come out of the cap once you have unlocked it ,could potentially scratch the tank with a bunch of keys. Changed my cap on my Street twin to a Motone customs one ,having said that I love the bike though.
Michael Evans , I never have anything but the bike key and a soft key ring like "remove before flight" in bright red. Extra keys are not good for ignitions and anything around the ignition that can get scratched.
I took one of these for a test and the one fault for me was the bars. Love the look but higher speeds and wind pressure, hard to hang on to because of the pull back angle.
I had the same Experience I was knocked back of the Bars at speed! Also a bit worried about the tp speed limitations especially if you wanted a quicker Days Ride?
Back in the 70's some bikes had the wiring through the handle bars and the first mod we did was to get rid of it, because in an accident if the handbags get bent you can short out the wires. No way to repair that quickly.
Great job with your videos, mate! I love the detail and unbiased reporting. Re: Traction Control - I don't know if the 2018 model had it, but the 2020 Speedmaster definitely does.
The delay in the fuel gauge reading after filling the fuel tank is the Anti-slosh circuit working. It gives you a more accurate reading of how much fuel is in the tank when riding, Most modern vehicles have this feature. Great Bike, but I don't like the single speedo head. Great Video!!
The headlight indicator probably goes out with the low beam because it's likely to be dark when it's on, so therefore less distracting not kit up on the clocks
Great review as per. Your review, on the T120, helped me make up my mind when I was looking at a new bike. I subsequently purchased one. Nice ride it is. thanks.
Brilliant review. You are the same height as me, but I'm older (59). I've been riding my 2002 Vmax since new and I'm finding it a bit heavy to push around. Also I'm finding it hard to hold on to when the vboost kicks in! The Speedmaster is 40kgs lighter and 2 inches lower. After watching your very informative video I'm going to get one. Thanks.
I love the Speedmaster's looks, but I agree that it would look much better if it had the twin gauges of the T120. In fact, it may be why I'll wind up with the T120 next spring.
One thing you'll learn about cruisers if you spend any time on them on the highway is that you will build some serious muscle. You'll get a nice hard stomach fighting the upper body wind blast and some inner thighs that could crack a nut from fighting the wind that's trying to force you legs apart like an angry gynecologist. When I had them, my inner thighs would always be sore the first couple weeks of the new riding season. Floorboards make a world of difference. Pretty sure Triumph makes a set for this bike. A windscreen too.
saddlebag ha well never hear that mentioned about cruisers but I’m sure it’s true ha. Yes I’ve always ridden standards myself. But this bike has great proportions and quite elegant.
I have the same bike. I took off the back seat and put a nice black rack on the bike. I also took off the horrible handle bars. I hated the beach bars. I put a set of mini apes on the bike. I love the bike now. I really like the Triumph bike. It reminds me of my first Honda CB 750 bike. I would also like to have the twin speedo.
I test rode a standard Speedmaster and a Speedmaster with the "Highway Build" option (windscreen, better saddle, panniers, etc) and the windscreen and comfort seat made a huge difference in riding enjoyment. Actually, it feels like a different bike and a more capable long distance machine (except the fuel tank capacity is the one major drawback). I'll also add that here in the U.S. we love all things British and Triumph's turn lots of heads at our bike meets. Three cheers for Triumph as they capture more U.S. market share with quality products at reasonable price points.
To my surprise given my general tastes in motorcycles, I really like the look of this. It also seems like Triumph has paid attention to it's capabilities, and not just how it looks - unlike just about any other company that builds anything cruiser-ish. I would think if that rear subframe is designed to take a passenger, it should be able to handle a pair of aluminum panniers. But is there any company making them to fit this bike? That would make the bike perfect for day-to-day use. Or a decent sized trunk?
Little suggestion - When you are demonstrating the lights at night, cover the instruments. The camera can then see how good the lights are without washing out..
A nice bike in it's class. As with all nakeds i find the addition of a small inexpensive screen makes a lot of difference on a motorway, just takes blast of chest..
Hi TMF, as with yourself and others I test rode the T120, Bobber and Speedmaster and ultimately bought the T120 (as I wanted a pillion seat). The bobber was fun and I really enjoyed it and the speedmaster is a hoot but those beach bars are horrible. I later discovered the "Maverick" kit includes straighter bars (which are possibly the bobber bars). Love the badger tank though 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Ps. The gas cap barrel can be modified very easily with a dermal tool so the key can be removed when filling up. In fact you can fit the cap but left unlocked so you never even have to use the key again!
TheMissendenFlyer . I think I did but geordie spoken at rapid fire isn’t always easy to understand!! My wife thinks she heard you tell someone that your coat was stolen while you were there!?
An excellent and informative review as ever, TMF, thanks! Is it just me (probably is!) but why do so many bikes come with such an inadequate front mudguard (aka fender) these days? Probably a matter of style over function. The guard on that Speedmaster is obviously just going to allow the engine and front end to be permanently sandblasted, or worse allow the front wheel to propel high speed gravel missiles at the radiator . You can see the crud that has been thrown at the radiator of the bike at around the 15 minute mark in your video. The mudguard is so short you also couldn't even add a functional fender extender to it. My Diavel was just the same. I like to keep my bikes looking mint, which would be difficult to do with a non-functioning front mudguard. Then again, as I say, it's probably just me and my pristine bike OCD!
I liked the handlebar cable bands - nostalgic- Triumph have always had them. Fuel tank- be good if Triumph made an optional ‘breadbox ‘ tank as I used on my ‘82 Tiger Trail. Centre stand essential if the bike doesn’t come with shaft drive. Heated grips and seat plus optional screen. Single dial okay with me.
Anthony Brookes Melbourne Australia. Used to ride my Tiger Trail on Fire Trails around Melbourne and dirt backroads up to parents place in Canberra. Tall gearing, go anywhere bike. Yellow paint scheme, absolutely loved it.
i just was trying to figure out by your name i guess its German or German/Jewish, main reason i asked was this video is done by a UK crowd and some of his comments come from what is now the culture in Britain, comments about cruiser type bikes being for old men. for a long time the culture has been for crotch rockets, plastic missiles, so i guess this guy is comparing it with this kind of bikes Aussie cultures of riding is different. i usually ride alone on a 09 Harley Street glide, i am looking at triumphs now only because my current ride is getting a bit too heavy for me now something ,more nimble tried a few triumphs most comfy one i found was the America, loved the bobber very uncomfortable loved the triple cruiser not keen on the new styling but guess i will get there. if i dont i will just get another fatboy
21:39 Actually it does have traction control which is always on so you don´t have to think about it … though can be turned off in the settings which is easy enough .. that plus rain mode makes it completely safe and reliable in the wet .. removing the cat + after market pipes and it sounds absolutely brutal to the point where it´s almost obnoxious and unbearable .. a good tip choose pipes with built in baffling and I´m not talking about the removable DB killer :) Agree on the instrument clock, that it does look a bit cheap and nasty and the chrome duals (like on the Bonnies) would look the business .. regarding the front Brembo´s though mine stops on a dime if you grab a real hand full
The endless choice of aftermarket pipes and/or decat is quite baffling (pun intended). It's too expensive to get the desired result by trial and error. The only 1200 I've ridden is a Thruxton R demo with V&H US spec silencers - baffles out. It was close to perfect for me but the dealer said Triumph will only sell the EU spec now and I'm not going to waste £700 for no gain. I wonder if just a decat would give enough extra volume and bark, with the benefits of cleaner pick up, lower cost and retaining original looks? Decisions, decisions.
@@paulstredwick l changed both cat and pipes at the same time so personally I can't say what the result is with just the cat out .. but have heard on the forum's from those that have just gone the x-pipe route that it makes quite a considerable difference to the bark/growl
Excellent review. Agree on all points particularly the 12 lt fuel tank. Still more comprehensive vs the HD Sportster (horrible) and the Indian Scout (simply gorgeous). PS. I think the DRL only green light is there as a reminder that you are NOT on dipped beam thus less visible. Not a warning (amber) not a failure (red) just a reminder (green).
I test rode a 2012 Speedmaster this summer, and I was surprised at how well it handled. It was heavy, but it had a ton of torque which made highway acceleration great.
I just sold my Triumph Street Triple R 765 and likely putting in a deposit on a red Speedmaster this Saturday. There are limited Speedmasters here in Australia so haven’t found any dealer offering a test ride since most of these bikes sell out as soon as stock arrives. But I have had a good look at one of these at the showroom and seating is so much comfortable. And based on the reviews, sounds like riding is a joy too. Only bit I am worried about is the scraping of foot pegs. Not sure how bad that is, especially with me switching over from a Street Triple R to this one ( although not that I lean too much around the corners ).
I had this, only for an hour or so, on a testride. Cruisers are not my thing but I found this extremely comfortable, fairly snappy engine aswell, it's just that the bike has next to no ground clearance, and I'm not even a super aggressive rider in the twisties but this bike has a very limited lean angle, but I expected that from a cruiser.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yeah I heard you mention that after I posted the comment :D I would be interested in the Kawaski Vulcan S though, everyone seems to praise the engine and clearance seems like less of an issue on that bike

I've ridden cruisers and choppers for 52 years so far, love them!
Thanks James, be careful on the speed master it may look benign but that 1200 engine is a monster!
@@TheMissendenFlyer I will be careful for sure and thanks for the advice. 👍
I'll be in Berlin 2nd September on my Triumph speedmaster be good to catch up. Bri Derbyshire UK.
Congratulations and enjoy the bike!
Brilliant review that covered all relevant points! Cheers from Canada!
TMF - love your videos, you would probably know by now these are available with cushioned back rest for pillion & spring loaded snap on/off screen for touring, keep the Vida coming I love them from Aus 👍
The Missenden Flyer does a GREAT job reviewing bikes. I hope to see all the videos he has.
Hi Andy I forgive you, for entered the roundabout in the Rain and calling it a (Honda Speedmaster ? ) I had a laugh with that one! you did a great job on the Review and you pointed out what a great Bike Triumph have made here! not a sports bike but still plenty of punch and
enjoyment to be had on it, have. a great day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My pleasure!
Thanks for your brilliant reviews TMF. I ended up getting a triumph Adventurer in the end. Love it.
I assume you mean an Explorer??
The Speedmaster does have traction control (ttc in the menu). You can turn it off and on independent of riding mode. Good review btw.. Loving my Speedmaster!
Thanks for the clarification!
See you there!
just thought you might like to know that triumph and over manufactures make full windscreens for this bike in the triumph menu I think its called the touring screen and you can get a top box and hard panniers from manufactures for it so it can be a full touring bike oh and an adjustable seat with lumbar support as well plus you can get different handlebars and heated grips.
Just drive a car.
I just leave cap unlocked doesn't leak,,,,,,,,,,,
Great review sir - she’s a gorgeous bike. 👌🏼
Thanks for watching Dave!
Great vid and down at the NEC tomorrow to have a good look at this bike!
Have fun!
Back from the NEC and have fallen in love with all things Triumph! Surprisingly at 6’5 i can fit on a Scrambler, T120 and a Speedmaster and love them all. I predict some road testing coming up!
That was a very comprehensive review. Very well explained, thanks very much!
You’re welcome
Good honest review mate, all the best
Thanks 👍
Great review! I run a 20008 carb 865 speedmaster which I love.
Futuristic stuff!
Welcome aboard!
Almost ideal upgrade from my 1100 California. But is that an actual fuel tank or a Triumph novelty hip flask. 😕
I’ve had my cranberry red version for a year and three months now. I could name off a lot of little quirks it has but I won’t. It is a pleasure to ride.
That gas cap is a pain to get off and on. You did quite well.
The main beam switch works as a flasher in DRL mode and a traditional on-off in dipped mode. I find this really useful.. Great vid as usual.
Aha! Interesting quirk - thanks for letting me know!
Wish they'd make it a belt drive and do away with the messy chain and having to replace chain / sprockets etc.
Yes - exactly what they've done on the new 1200 Scrambler I notice!
top review and youve just helped me to make my mind up on what bike im now in the market for, cheers, Triumph it is
Good call 👍
Great review, bike looks good in that color scheme.
I love that you felt the need to stop and explain what "my girls" means hahah
Great video as always and a very nice looking bike. Of all the cruisers, this one gets me going.
...you can't be too careful....especially if one of "my girls" happens to watch.....
Michael Evans yep, I did the same on my scrambler for exactly that reason.
@@mikestewart7322 Would be nicer if the key came out on the cap when unlocked I think anyway.
Great review. Very informative, thanks.
Back in the 70's some bikes had the wiring through the handle bars and the first mod we did was to get rid of it, because in an accident if the handbags get bent you can short out the wires. No way to repair that quickly.
Nice but 2019 Street Scrambler for me - agile, fun, single instrument dial. Lovely to ride quickly without having to thrash.
It's had 3 different engine sizes. Which engine size is this please?
1200cc
@@TheMissendenFlyer thank you. And it's a detailed and useful review, like you usually do. Even lights at night time, which does matter.
Thanks again.
Great job with your videos, mate! I love the detail and unbiased reporting. Re: Traction Control - I don't know if the 2018 model had it, but the 2020 Speedmaster definitely does.
Excellent review, I’m very happy with this video
The delay in the fuel gauge reading after filling the fuel tank is the Anti-slosh circuit working. It gives you a more accurate reading of how much fuel is in the tank when riding, Most modern vehicles have this feature. Great Bike, but I don't like the single speedo head. Great Video!!
Indeed it is - and I wish they's had dual clocks instead of that plastic thing too...thanks for watching!
Great review. Very informative and quite enjoyable.
The headlight indicator probably goes out with the low beam because it's likely to be dark when it's on, so therefore less distracting not kit up on the clocks
Nah, I don't buy it - I just think it's a bit of naff instrumentation...every other bike I own shows a green headlight when the headlight is on....
Spot on
Love the 270 degree crankshaft, and 6 speed trans.. dislike the spokes.. and absolutely hate the chain drive
Fair enough!
Great review as per. Your review, on the T120, helped me make up my mind when I was looking at a new bike. I subsequently purchased one. Nice ride it is. thanks.
Glad you like it! (phew!!)
@@TheMissendenFlyer 😄👍
Good review again. Thank you Danny
What a lovely machine. Thank you for this amazing review!
Thanks.
Thanks for watching and enjoy!
Nice review! I am not a big fan of the looks but, the fit and finish seem to be top notch.
Yes Triumph have really got the hang of retros these days haven’t they - the new scrambler 1200 and Speed Twin look like winners too!
Love the looks of that Petrol Tank. It is a thing of beauty. 100% agree with you on that hideous clock
Glad we concur!
I love the Speedmaster's looks, but I agree that it would look much better if it had the twin gauges of the T120. In fact, it may be why I'll wind up with the T120 next spring.
single is better
Great looking bike and another great in depth review, thank you.
Thanks for posting. As usual, very informative.
You’re very welcome....
Nice to here Gene - you've clearly never tried a British Rail sandwich.....
Ditto. I have a garage full of sporty exotica (Panigale, RVF)….but one of these really appeals.
A brilliant review my friend 🤙
Little suggestion - When you are demonstrating the lights at night, cover the instruments. The camera can then see how good the lights are without washing out..
Good idea!
This was a great review thank's
A nice bike in it's class. As with all nakeds i find the addition of a small inexpensive screen makes a lot of difference on a motorway, just takes blast of chest..
Speed twin looks amazing! Thruxton in what looks better than a t120 form. Can't wait to see you ride it!
Me too! Triumph, what are the chances???
Hi TMF, as with yourself and others I test rode the T120, Bobber and Speedmaster and ultimately bought the T120 (as I wanted a pillion seat). The bobber was fun and I really enjoyed it and the speedmaster is a hoot but those beach bars are horrible. I later discovered the "Maverick" kit includes straighter bars (which are possibly the bobber bars). Love the badger tank though 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ps. The gas cap barrel can be modified very easily with a dermal tool so the key can be removed when filling up. In fact you can fit the cap but left unlocked so you never even have to use the key again!
Great to meet TMF at NEC this afternoon.
You didn't mention you were Laika Travels!
I share your OCD tendencies David!
100% right
Very good review, hopefully I’m getting one for my 50th in March.
you luck fellow lol
Great review - as always!
Thank you very much for saying so!
Single dial okay with me.
absolutely how else can you adjust the chain , where are from andrew
21:39 Actually it does have traction control which is always on so you don´t have to think about it … though can be turned off in the settings which is easy enough .. that plus rain mode makes it completely safe and reliable in the wet .. removing the cat + after market pipes and it sounds absolutely brutal to the point where it´s almost obnoxious and unbearable .. a good tip choose pipes with built in baffling and I´m not talking about the removable DB killer :)
Agree on the instrument clock, that it does look a bit cheap and nasty and the chrome duals (like on the Bonnies) would look the business .. regarding the front Brembo´s though mine stops on a dime if you grab a real hand full
@@34979Charlie Thanks. That's probably the route I'd go.
Not a warning (amber) not a failure (red) just a reminder (green).
...doesn't make sense to me...
Yes it does, at night with the lights on dip you don't have a green light, so no confusion between low and high beam
I test rode a 2012 Speedmaster this summer, and I was surprised at how well it handled. It was heavy, but it had a ton of torque which made highway acceleration great.
The new bike is a huge improvement over the old too - thanks for watching - TMF
That goPro actually did a Good job of showcasing at nite!
A fantastic review the blocks well done
Great in depth review of a lovely looking bike.
Thank you Donald...
Very nice review. Little surprising on the fuel tank size, and the range. Cruise control is a nice addition though.
Another great real world review TMF, love this bike and may consider it or the new Honda rebel to replace my GSXS 1000.
When you mention, cruise, bet you could fit a decent sized screen on the front end ,,, cheers Shane
In fact I think Triumph probably make one as an accessory - if they don’t, they should!
You’ll be fine it’s not a big deal - your riding style will change over the Street Triple!
Nice in depth review. Thank you
Excellent video! Would you recommend this bike for a 6'3 tall beginner rider?
Depends how much of a beginner…..
Yes I agree - I loved the Speedmaster but it is the only bike I have continually scraped the pegs on....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yeah I heard you mention that after I posted the comment :D I would be interested in the Kawaski Vulcan S though, everyone seems to praise the engine and clearance seems like less of an issue on that bike
To use it as a long distance bike you just add a screen!
Great video as always. 👍🏼👍🏼. If you had to choose between this and the z900rs which bike would you choose?
Hmm, Z900RS I think...close though
