Nice snare charge at 2:59. Makes the song meaner. Like someone mentioned earlier, that was some pretty deadly work at 5:32. Also like the double bass thing at 5:43, totally beats the song to shreds! (Lars about "Eye of the Beholder")"There's a song called 'Eye of the Beholder' on the 'Justice' album. It sounds like it's got two different tempos. There's kind of a 4/4 feel in the intro and on the verses, and then I think the choruses are more like in a waltz tempo. Absolutely love the drums on this track. Inspired. Certain patterns of percussion unlock parts of your brain and seem to make sense in an instinctive level. Excellent performance. Well done, sir.
One of my favorite things from Justice is the rolled and rebounding kick patterns that really compliments the riffs so well, the grooves are phenomenal!
I was told by the producer of Justice that Lars recorded each drum on a separate take (and track, of course) so there would be no bleed of drums in the cymbal tracks. Great way to be set up for trying different kick parts. Killin' it, Josh!!

Lars's somewhat out-of-time style of drumming is what makes Metallica's music so recognizable and unique. When other drummers stepped up for Lars on stage with Metallica during his absence, the music sounded weird and incomplete.
Agreed. he switched as couple of times things up here and there. An improvement I might add. EoftB isn't the most complicated piece to play but it has some funky time changes during transitions in between the standard times that I see many get wrong over and over again.

When I graduated from 8th grade 1989, we were given questions for the cheesy year book. I put this as my favorite song, i figured everyone was putting "one" and I wanted to be different. This was the first song on this album that came to mind. I think I made a good choice
oldschool Lars is proof that you do not need to be an absolute monster of a drummer to compliment the rest of the track astonishingly well.
I appreciate the sum of all parts approach as well. Drummer dick measuring is only pleasing fellow drummer dicks. ;)
Except old school Lars WAS a monster. He just got Lazy at the Black Album.

Yes it is an amazing song in my opinion but Lars thinks they tried to hard to be proggy. ...and justice for all is actually kind of prog metal.
