    I’d stick with the header wrap regardless of how it looks. Let’s be honest, performance over fashion all day. Besides, I’ve yet to run any header wrap that hasn’t changed color from use over time as well as getting moisture on it at some point while it’s hot. Once that happens I’ve found it’ll discolor unevenly. Keep up the great work! PS, 🙏 the pup heals up fast. Boxer dad as well.

I have a 5.0L v8 westfield kitcar (650kg and 350bhp) which I built in 2002 and to reduce under bonnet temperature like you I found the wrapped headers was by far the best method. Excellent q&a session.
    I'm in the uk and following a chap who has build one and is in the process of getting it through an mot test. ( ministry of transport). As its a hand built car it needs a more in depth test. For the price of an M5 (not factoring in your 400+ hours of course)you have an amazingly special car. It would be my dream weekend/track day car. It’s a Lotus on steroids basically. Wanted one around 20 years ago as I know them well being from the 🇬🇧 also around that time my neighbour had one of the first and iterations which was much rougher around the edges and with lower engine spec but still amazing. My dad at the time owned a Speed 6 TVR which was beautiful and crazy quick but dynamically not in the same league as the Ultima. I have always wanted one but due to not being a mechanic and with a young family it was impossible as I couldn’t afford the factory built version. It’s the handling and the visceral experience that always appealed to me. A breath of fresh air in a modern world being filled with Tesla’s for sure.

    Ultima always has been my absolute dream car, but I didn’t know what engine I’d use. The BMW V10 has not enough power and it is fragile. American V8 were not my flavour until the moment until the C8 Z06 came out. I personally think that the new LT6 engine is the best choice for this car, lightweight, low rotational mass, flat plane, high reving, a dream of an engine.

      I fully agree. This is a dream engine, Normas with Judd V10 are just awesome. If money wouldn’t be an issue a Cosworth 6,5 V12 would certainly be best. At the moment I call an AJP Speed 8 in a Cerbera MK2 my own, but Ultima is very much my dream.

    Glad to see it out in the wild! The only real place you can even touch the limits on these cars is the track and even then you approach it with caution. 2nd gear launch is the fastest way to set the 0-60 and 0-100 with a little tire warm up before hand, I'm curious to see if the LT5 is faster than the LS7.

    I was expecting this to be closer to 2000lbs.
    My headers are ceramic coated, but still having heat issues with a 800hp 8.2L LS NA build. You're making me consider wrapping on top of the ceramic. The biggest thing is saving my starters which are getting cooked.

    • @UltimateUltimaRS
      @UltimateUltimaRS  Год назад

      The wrap was a complete game changer. Huge huge reduction in temps for sure.

    • @yzScott
      @yzScott Год назад

       @Ultimate Ultima RS My biggest beef with wraps is how they cause corrosion issues on the headers. But, I gotta think the ceramic coating would prevent that AND this car simply doesn't get driven in the rain. They should never get wet.
      I've got the car apart for the 2023 upgrade season. I guess I'll put it back together with wrapped headers. I was considering building a heat shield for starter, but wraps will save everything from the heat... not just the starter.
      It would be interesting to get out in an Ultima someday. I've taken this Z06 about as close to racecar as I can get it. I weight about 500 lbs more. How far behind am I, really? I expect I am closer to par on the suspension than you'd think possible. But, 1/6 less weight is huge even at your belt-slipping power levels. If you find your 1000 HP, you'll probably be a high 8 second car.

    I've watched most of your videos on this build and was just totally knocked out. I can't even guess what you do for income; but as for me it's so far on the other end of the spectrum it's almost laughable. I'm not complaining mind you, few could possibly have experienced the life I have; but to even see such an anti-thesis actually exist from my POV just seems absolutely astounding. If it were up to me to give you an appropriate title it would be "The Immaculate Mechanic". I think you should have done the engine upgrade video In a James Bond Tux with a John Cleese looking butler to hold all your tools on a silver tray with some Bond like sound-track in the back. I know I must sound jaded; but I'm not really. I'm quite pleased to see that there is at least one individual in the world that can live such an extreme dream. You still twisted my mind with your Hp greed for such a light vehicle though, especially since you elected to keep the DFM system on top of it all; but after all, everything else about it is "cutting edge" so why not? Probably help you get a better ROI at the next Mecum event you take it to after it gets dusty. LOL Seriously though, I'd love to show you my 87' Camaro I've built and driven over the course of the last 20 years. I don't post any RUclips videos on it because I just built it for me and not to show. Still, I'd love to park mine next to yours at a car show and then watch the reaction of the spectators. It would be the ultimate juxtaposition of more with less and more with more. LOL Let me know if you're ever up around Kissimmee.

    Deciding when to kick in your cooling fans is somehow a must..put a switch ,when temp is rising at a red light on a hot day (don't wait for that coolant temp to rise to max...) ,also installing (2 Porsche surge fans) with manual control will for sure help extracting tons of hot air out of that bay in seconds ( 2011/911 carrera S).... on top of the much needed wraps you installed..(do the turbos have heat covers too..??)anyway i love your car and for sure you built a marvel of a car..!!..can't wait to see some serious track vids..

    Ceracoat is basically a spray paint as oposed to a ceramic thermal control coating- I would personally consider Jet-Hot or Swain coating over the wrap. Wrap has some disadvantages as far as trapping moisure and creating thermal stresses due to uneven insulation vs. ceramic thermal coatings- I would use it on a vintage car for aesthetics maybe, but OVER a ceramic thermal coating since the latter provides insulation, heat reflection, and corrosion protection.
    Just spraying Ceracoat on the outside of a set of headers is not much better than leaving them bare. It's great for your hunting rifle or brake calipers, but not headers.

    I really enjoyed this build. Might I suggest you save the speed for the track. Your wallet and license will appreciate it. On the track all the vehicles are traveling in the same direction at similar speeds and there are safety crews there instantly if things go south. Here in Ontario Canada the cops will impound for racing and or stunt driving. That entails some flunky hooking your car and dragging it on to a flatbed. Any damage is your problem. I’m not sure if FL has a similar law(s)

    Sweet machine!! The header wrap is my fav, looks tough!! I’m assuming the rest of the bay is clean so I like the contrast. Color is awesome too 👍

    Mad to think, theoretically, you could possibly run towed farm equipment with that half u-joint on the back of the transaxle.

    Try the new slipper clutches I saw on Cleetus Mc's channel...install an industrial electric fan to suck the hot air out the engine bay and out thru a flat panel slit at the back, as opposed to Gordon Murray's T50 round fan exhaust, to use the hot air to iron out the venturi effect and reduce tail drag across the rear of the car

      Those slipper clutches are awesome but more for drag racing. The carbon clutch I have is perfect for road course stuff.

    I'd suggest adding a couple of 12V DC fans under your clam to ventilate the compartment to the outside.

    Guessing the printed part cracked at the layerlines? Nylon is veeeery hard to print and you won't get isotropic behavior because of the FDM process... Furthermore the fibers will arange parallel to the layer lines and won't help with layer adhesion either. I'd suggest looking for a 3d print service that offers SLS printed nylon parts, wich have much less layer effects, or reinforcing the printed part with some resin and fibers on the outside. I'm at the moment developing an intake manifold using a resin printer, which produces more isotropic, smoother, heat resistant parts. Brittleness is an issue though... Thanks for sharing your experience!

      Before I installed it, I coated the inside and outside of the part in epoxy and shredded carbon fiber. It looked like a legitimate forged carbon fiber piece when I was done but it must have just cracked under braking or maybe even when I was muscling the transmission in and moving things around. The biggest problem was just that the design was too big and it went too far forward.

    Clutch fork issue sounds like a problem I ran into years ago with an sti I had. There's literally a pin that has to be pulled to separate the trans from the bell housing. Felt like an ass when it took me an hour to figure it out. During a 6 puck install. Makes sense since both are a boxer design

    • @UltimateUltimaRS
      @UltimateUltimaRS  3 года назад

      Yeah just seems completely unnecessary because you can put push style clutches on them with zero issue.

    What I got from this video is buy a Ninja ZX-10r for a fraction of the cost with no build time and be almost as fast. I definitely give this guy and his car props for walking a liter bike, not many cars can do that.

    Hi/ based on previous video i think that u can have some problem with temperature of air intake? Its so close to very hot exhaust pipe / and separation of theese could be better. Check air temp intake with :)
