This couldn’t have come at a better time, my rad valve is leaking and was thinking of draining down and replacing the valveI now I think it’s just coming from the packing gland.
Talking of leaks, I've recently fitted a new Dudley Turbo88 siphon into a 60 year old ceramic cistern and I cannot get it to stop leaking where the pipe emerges from the bottom of the cistern. I've tightened it as much as I dare, it's a plastic thread and I've tried coating both sides of the rubber washer with silicone sealant and it still leaks. It's a very slow leak, perhaps a drop a minute but it's enough to keep the wooden floor damp. Any suggestion welcome.
if anyone does not know which way to tighten them then perhaps they should consider throwing their spanners away and calling out a professional. it is pretty universal, jam jars, bottles, nuts, they all tighten the same way.
Hi Al can you help me I’m newly self employed and completely stumped on a job WHB hot tap had low pressure was no iso on the tap so turned the boiler off drained the system let it cool, took off the flexi as it was old and bursting changed it and tightened the tap now customer has phoned me saying both hot and cold are not working all the time it’s dropping in and out of pressure and all I can think is that there’s a blockage
Well we all run in to a wall one time in our life my friend, and need an outsiders prospective I’m thinking it’s needing repiped due to sediment build up it’s not the washer and nor the flexi or iso
May also be the actual taps are restricting pressure, but I would scrap the flexis and make sure there are no iso valves further back as as they also restrict flow rates.. After that then yes suspect a blockage.
I installed new flexis and no other isolation valves that I can see maybe under the floor taps had been stripped washers were fine but replaced them anyway as they were old and it was a left hand thread so tightened it put back together and it got worse but pressure drops and spikes of you leave the tap running took the aerator off clean so put my thumb over to pull pressure through little bits of sediment but not much
Great stuff thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
9:40 spotted your deliberate mistake, wrapping the PTFE the wrong way 🤣😂
You ave me there ha ha.
I had to use tape to stop pin hole leaks in a pipe I got from B&Q , quite annoying really. Tape works mind and has been in place for over 10 years.
That`s great.

Great.
@@dereton33 just tried the packing gland it’s not shifting at all.
Good video Al have you used Loctite?
Not yet!

Yes, plumbers mait on both sides forget the sealant, make sure all sealant is removed before applying the mait.
@@dereton33Thanks Al, I'll get some and try it.

Well it is as they say, if you do not know then you dont.
Thx Derek - it has always felt to me counterintuitive to turn the tap on anti-clockwise😅 I still say right is tight - left is loose! 👍

I'm glad you're not working on my CH😂
