Hey Ace, any idea what keeps my HL-5250DN manual feed from properly working. I was manually feeding #60 card stock at the time. I've been able to print #60 via manual feed since I got the printer without issues. Now when I try it the toner cartridge/drum lift, then I hear gears clashing and then an error. Continues to feed and print fine from the tray. Thanks.

thanks a lot, I open a few compartments trying to fix it but at the third time I was about to put it in the garbage when my wife said let me see if I can find something in the internet when I respond no, I could believe I can find something useful to fix such an old printer but then she said she found something, I couldn't believe it, and even more when I see the fix was to put a little piece of paper on top of that sticky gum, I did it and it was finally printing without jamming the paper, thanks a lot, really appreciate your contribution!
I know this is an old video but these printers are still working. Mine had a double feed issue. I cleaned all the rollers and still had half a page stuck in the toner unit (front). The easy fix was to change the paper type to THICK. It now works fine.
Thank you for video. I cleaned the area with a paper strips soaked in alcohol. Then I used paper strips soaked in WD40 to make the area less adhesive. It worked for now with the HL-2070N.

Obviously my printer got the problem the day I needed some important documents printed ... Funny how it happened all of a sudden too. I always thought it was a relatively cheap printer that I would not mind replacing when need be, but with time I got used to it and would be a bit bothered to do so unless there is no other choice.
Excellent!! Problem appears to be cured (fingers crossed). With double-sided tape I adhered a rectangle of very thin metal to the contact area of the lever. I also added a tiny spray of WD-40 to the recalcitrant hinge. Many thanks
Great catch, impressive. This was a clever catch you found. It worked immediately, I questioned fabricating small plastic but couldn't remove the sticky, so I cut off the sticky part of a sticky note and put that in, sticky side down, to hold it in place yet preventing the tab from sticking, worked immediately!
@@Ace1000ks19751982 OEM TN-350 toner, oh boy, I clean part of the fuser (couldn't rotate it) and pulled the toner cartridge to run that slider back and forth and also cleaned that rikker (and rotated it) with rubbing alcohol. No jamming, but I think I made the printout worse.
my 2040 print skewed page, so the print isn't straight, any suggestion or someone run into this issue? By the way, the paper doesn't jam or double feed, just skewed printing. Thank you. Ed
There's a simpler fix: remove the foam piece altogether. It peels off easily and serves no discernable purpose. Took 5 seconds and the printer works as new!
Lots of reports of success with HL2030 but i have a HL2035. I have never seen it double grab paper. But it grabs one sheet and curls it up into the feeder and then nothing happens, single piece of paper hangs loosely in the feeder. I don't think my printer has the same issue, or does it?

Thank you Ace! I fixed my HL-2070N today using your guide. So far it has printed every time without issue. If anyone else is having trouble with their HL-2070N flashing all lights this can be fixed by turning it on with the Go button held down, wait a second or three then press Go eight times. *Not* six times. If you do this correctly the printer will print three service pages. 1. Turn the machine OFF. 2. Wait a few seconds and then turn the machine ON. 3. If all the lights are still flashing, perform a factory reset: a. Turn the machine OFF. b. Check that the front cover is closed. c. Turn ON the power switch while holding down the GO button. d. Check the Toner/Drum/Paper LED's are lit. e. Release the GO button and check that all LED's are off. f. Press the GO button eight times. g. The machine settings will be reset to factory default. The machine will then initialize and return to Ready status.
This absolutely worked for me. should work for many Brother laser printers. I've used a refurb HL-5250DN for the past 12 years. Then just a while back a second piece of paper would be fed causing a jam. Same left side access and screw location with one addition, must remove the left top panel screw to get the side cover off. Two actuator pads to cover. I used two small pieces of 3M 33 green tape, adhesive down, to cover the sticky pads. Seems the pad surfaces break down via heat and years. So glad you posted. Sent my ordered replacement back to Amazon.
Worked for my HL-2150 as well (same pad, same function, but in a slightly different location so it needed a bit more dismantling). It seems Brother built the same 'time bomb' into more than one range of printers! Thank you for the solution

Thank you!! Like many other commenters, I just removed the sticky rubber pad too. Just went in with a pair of narrow/pointed tweezers. I guess sometimes leftover parts ARE proof you made it better!

Found this printer at a thrift shop tonight with an existing paper jam dated Dec 1, 2011. But I knew there was hope when I successfully printed the factory test page without a computer, there at the thrift shop. Watched this video and am gleeful about my now functional, $9 used Brother laser printer! ACE. You are THE MAN! Took me 12 minutes. I cut out a tiny piece of standard clear plastic packaging material and attached it to the sponge with a tiny dab of rubber cement. Thanks gain *Ace 1000ks1975.*

I was struggling with paper feed jam on my HL 2030, when more then one paper would be in the reserve, right after I replaced the toner with another brand. I took a gamble and followed this guide to open the printer panels. Just as advertised, the mousse had gone bad and sticky. I inserted a piece of paper as proposed and everything works as new again! So this solution is also compatible with the HL 2030 model!
Would probably not have figured this one out for myself. Thanks ever so much. Update 1 hour later: Unfortunately I just got another paper jam in the paper tray.
Thank you very much . I had my sledge hammer ready but you just saved another printer from waste you Eco-Warrior! When i watched your video it still looked too hard but luckily i gave it a quick go . It was a really a simple fix, the panels on the printer actually came off and went back on with ease. At first glance i couldn't see the small sponge under white lever and again was about the give up but i looked at your video a few times and eventually found that sponge near the fulcram point - gone sticky - the design fault you have shown us- well done! I slid a bit of cardboard over the sponge as suggested and easily put the panels back on, turned the power on. Miraculously I printed a page and there were no more paper jams....no more worries ....problem solved....Thanks again!

Worked... I cut a small piece of cello tape and inserted it with tweezers to stick onto the rubbery bit.

Fixed the double feed problem, but paper still jams. Seems to have other failures after 20 years. The manual feeder still works.
You might have to replace the roller.

I think you need a new rubber roller or clean it with some rubbing alcohol and qtips.

You can certainly do that.
You need the sponge as a cushion to dampen the shock.

It's different. You might have a problem with the roller, or the mechanism is damaged.

There is no color toner for this printer.
This worked PERFECTLY! No, the camera isn't great but all the directions are there and work.

When i watched your video it still looked too hard but luckily i gave it a quick go .
It was a really a simple fix, the panels on the printer actually came off and went back on with ease.
At first glance i couldn't see the small sponge under white lever and again was about the give up but i looked at your video a few times and eventually found that sponge near the fulcram point - gone sticky - the design fault you have shown us- well done!
I slid a bit of cardboard over the sponge as suggested and easily put the panels back on, turned the power on. Miraculously I printed a page and there were no more paper jams....no more worries ....problem solved....Thanks again!

thanks! I used graphite powder on the foam pad, this coated the sticky part, and won't get caught up in anything like plastic would if it came loose.

Another tip, needed for my printer: make sure the BACK of the paper tray is pushed in to your paper size. Mine got stuck until I did this.
