Love this! I've sometimes done an Asian twist on meatloaf as well, I usually use shallots, ginger and garlic in the actual loaf, with a little five spice, soy sauce, shaoxing and dark soy mixed in as well. But I spotted this recipe on your site a wee while ago and the glaze is particularly divine. I was surprised you don't put any cheese in your meatloaf. A little grated cheese always goes in mine. It adds great flavor and keeps the meatloaf moist.
Made this last night! I used ground turkey and ground beef and added some Chinese five spice and garlic powder along with everything else in the recipe. Absolutely DELICIOUS!!! 😍 new staple for me 💛
I have made tons of your recipes since discovering you & your channel at the start of quarantine last year. I never used to cook much for myself, but you have such a way of explaining & making things look SO EASY even I could do it! Never disappointed with any of the ones I tried (san be ji is now a staple in my week) and I always feel like I learn something from watching. Cant wait to try this one - I usually hate meatloaf but I’m sure this will be a winner too
I'm dubious. I've never had a meatloaf that impressed me. But it's Marion's recipe, so I'll give it a try. I'll have to use sausage mince instead of pork mince, as that's what I've got in the fridge. I hope it doesn't bugger it up.
I made this one today and it smells good! My oven must not be so great because when the time got to be 60 minutes (I added 10 more minutes to the 20 after brushing the sauce on it) the internal temp wasn't even 140 so I just kept on going until it was 180 which did take some time but I did have it so no harm done! It looks and smells very good and tomorrow once it cools all the way I'll slice it and make sandwiches on pretzel rolls! Thanks for giving me a good reason to use a recipe to make meatloaf for the third time in my life! Take care! Edited to add that I couldn't find a jar of Char Siu sauce so I found a recipe I liked and it worked just fine!
Hi Marion: Definitely going to make this. Most of my cooking has an Asian flair. Have never been a BBQ sauce fan. Looks beautiful and delicious! Tonight for the 4th of July holiday, I’m cooking my Asian inspired ribs, with your cooking method for your Korean ribs. Thank you for all of your videos. 💜😎🇺🇸
So I made this yesterday. Too sweet for my savory taste buds. I would omit the char Sui ketchup mixture going into the loaf itself and just glaze with it next time. Also it was very loose after ten minutes and just crumbled when sliced so I would cut back on the water in the panic as well next time. Slices nicely once chilled.
If you cook the loaf on a sheet pan instead of a container, you can glaze the entire loaf not just the top. I use a Hoisin/Ketchup/Honey glaze and finish with toasted sesame seeds.
Looks so good! Will be on the menu here this week. Is there a reason why you use a stock cube over stock powder? Stunning as always; don’t know how you manage to stay so clean cooking, especially wearing white! 🤣
I still have a fair amount of pulled chicken and pork to finish from the 4th of July but unless I happen to see another recipe I just can't wait to make, this will be my next dish to make! I'm used to eating meatloaf with brown gravy on it but the Char Siu glaze should be good, too! Thanks for another great recipe! I've made a number of your noodle dishes and love them!
Hi Marion......the meat loaf might not be traditional but it sure looks delicious and mouth watering.....in fact I love everything that you cook even if u add your own little twist .....u just know how to make it look appetising.... ❤️ from India.... MasterChef Australia fan...... ❤️❤️❤️
I made this with lamb and pork mince and zucchini instead of carrot inside. Delicous. I was worried for a second about using jarred char siu sauce, but it was so good regardless. I am curious about using homemade char siu sauce though!
I made this and it was very good but I used ground turkey and ground pork and I was tempted to tweak it because using turkey makes a difference, but I decided to just go with the recipe since she said ground turkey can be used. It was very loose…next time I would add another egg as more of a binder. My ratio is usually one egg per pound of meat. And the written recipe states to use an 8x4 loaf pan. For two pounds of ground meat? I knew immediately that would never work and it barely fit into a 9x5 and either bake at a higher temperature than stated or it will take an hour and 10 minutes at 350. The recipe says 320 which I also knew had to be wrong.
I've loved watching your video and your cooking style. Live to follow your recipe as well. Pls give me your recipe for soft and crunchy for prawns or chicken. Have a great day with your family. Thanks a lot😎😍
Eeek! I was just thinking about things to do with meatloaf last night. I love char siu, but I also love gyros. So, I made a meatloaf recipe that was basically ground char siu'd pork, and cooked it like gyros so it could be thinly sliced and served in some kind of flatbread-ish thing. Now, today I'm watching a whole string of your videos, and you have a char sui meatloaf, too. Sigh. I feel like you're telling me I did good. ;)
I like char siu on my banh mi and I like meatballs on my banh mi and I always say meatballs with toothpicks in them are just meatloaf lollipops, so when I heard you say you were making char siu glazed meatloaf, I thought, "man I bet that would go well with some pickled carrots and daikon and cilantro on baguette as a meatloaf banh mi"(not to mention I like meatloaf sandwiches) and then you started making pickled carrots 😂
OMG Marion! Can I be you in my next life? Beautiful, elegant, funny and you can cook anything wearing white blousy beautiful dresses. Thank you for the inspiration and all the yumminess!

I am so making this today. I just have to grab the panko because I'm out but any excuse to go to my Asian market. I really want to make this for my friend but she just found out she's gluten intolerant. What can I replace the panko with that won't mess with the flavor profile? The only thing coming to my mind is oats that I process a little bit so they're not full-on oats or oat flour. A lot of the gluten-free alternatives won't be the proper consistency since it needs to soak and hold that water.

Apparently for over 50 years I’ve been making know meatloaf wrong. My hubs is gonna love this. Any suggestions for a substitute, (for us wimps!), for the red chili? I want spice just not too much. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you.
Why not to add some star anise> Seriously, I've got some beef mince (and star anise) and I''m going to do this meat loaf (+ pickles). Chopped mushrooms instead of carrots would be nice, too.
@@kurushi857 , when you line a pan with parchment paper, the paper crinkles and adding in your mixture is difficult. how long this meatloaf can stay in the fridge, marion? I'm kinda want to make it and eat it with rice
