My port is such a life saver. About an hour before the infusion, I rub lidocaine over the port to numb it, per my oncologist's suggestion. The little stick doesn't hurt at all - just a bit of pressure. I can't imagine going through chemo trying to use your arm. I have had three weekly infusions of twelve. Then I will have an infusion of Herceptin every three weeks for 40 more weeks. It would be a lot to expect your veins to endure all that. Diane
I just finished 6 rounds of a 4 chemo cocktail 2 months ago. I got a port and it is awesome, it's so easy for the nurses to draw blood and for the infusion treatments. And you can move around easily during the treatments. Going to the bathroom with an IV in your hand is difficult, but not with a port. For sure bring an emotional support human to every appointment, you will need a second pair of ears.

No ice for me and I won’t dare touch anything coal without gloves💕
I had a port put in with no sedation at all. It was an easy procedure. I had to drive myself home so you cannot have sedation.
