- Charted at #3 in October 1902. Introduced by Blanche Ring in "The Defenders". Recorded by John Philip Sousa and his band in 1903. Billy Murray recorded the song in 1905. The song also became the title of a Judy Garland movie in 1949. Written by George Evans and Ren Shields. This was William Redmond's only big recording hit. He recorded a few other songs for Edison in 1902, as well as one in 1904.
This was song of the summer back then

"in the good old summer time, sung by Mr. William Redmond, Edison Records"
There's a time in each year, that we always hold dear
Good old summer time
With the birds and the trees-es and sweet scented breezes
Good old summer time
When your days work is over, then you are in clover and life is one beautiful rhyme
No trouble annoying, each one is enjoying
the good old summer time
In the good old summer time, in the good old summer time
Strolling through the shady lane, with your baby mine
You'll hold her hand and she holds yours, and that's a very good sign
That she's your tootie - wootsie, in the good old summer time
To swim in the pool, you play hooky from school
Good old summer time
You'll play ring-a-rosie with Jim, Kate, and Josie
Good old summer time
Those days full of pleasure we now fondly treasure, when we never thought it a crime
To go stealing cherries, with face brown as berries
Good old summer time
In the good old summer time, in the good old summer time
Strolling through the shady lane, with your baby mine
You'll hold her hand and she holds yours, and that's a very good sign
That she's your tootie - wootsie, in the good old summer time
Hum, my great grandfather on my dad's side had the same name, W.T. (Dr. William T. Redmond), he lived during this song's popularity. Try playing this thru your car stereo really loud with the windows down to make people think your a time traveler, or you look good for somebody 150.
My Great Uncle Joseph Redmond successfully sang at Vaudeville "Talent Shows" in the nineteen-teens in NYC. His immediate family were morticians in Brooklyn, New York. I'm sure there was no relation...
