- "Come Josephine In my flying Machine" - performed by Ada Jones and Billy Murray & Chorus. Recorded November 1910, and released in 1911 on Edison Blue Amberol cylinder phonograph record #1949.
I wonder how they would've felt to know that their song was used in one of the most of popular movies of all time, 86 years later.
Right?! ...mind blown....
And with special effects like they couldn’t possibly have imagined!
@@FromtheHerts81 guys, I don't know the movie. Help
@@justinhyslop8769 Titanic! This is the song Jack and Rose sing together as they stand on the rail at the prow of the ship.
@@justinhyslop8769 that movie is Titanic I hope you've already watched that movie💞
I'm 80 yrs old and I really love this old stuff recorded 25 years before I was born and I don't care that my resting home mates think I'm too old-fashioned, old music rocks.
There's nothing called too old fashioned when it comes to music, it's timeless
I'm 45 years young and I love music like this, as well as 1800s, 1700s, pretty much every music from the point music was created. Paleolithic music is super intersting. They'd use mammoth and boar tusks attached to cord, would spin it and get a deep "whistling groaning" sound. They'd beat upon other items for a rhythm and utilize other items for accompaniment. Super intersting how music began and has evolved.
My favorite eras of music has to be the Roaring 20s, Médiéval music and the 1700s.
I listen to music from around the early 1900s to the early 60's. This music is so underrated nowadays.
Veronica zzstu Kerrigan I agree!!! I basically have no friends because of my strange tastes in music, movies, etc. P.S. I’m fourteen as well :)
Good health to you sir !
This is the song I'll sing if I'm in a shipwreck and all the lifeboats leave me behind.
The Greek Pianist same.
Lol
Same lmao
hvydenar LOL 😂
Jack and rose were soulmates
Titanic picked this song because it was released in 1911 and the real Titanic incident took place in 1912 so it was popular during the real time. James Cameron did a great job in picking up the deep details.
This isn’t the original though, the original was a solo by a lady called Blanche something, can’t remember her surname, released in 1910, but still around the same time as Titanic, it still would have been a very popular song in 1912

i can just see the group of 1910 friends skipping down the sidewalk singing this😂
Imagine how they had to record this back in the day. no electronics, they all had to stand in front of a big horn. 100% acoustic, directly onto a wax cylinder
Gim Jim oh that's intresting. So basically for every copy they had to sing again and again? I am sure the copy would be expensive for the time.
Lavy Khurana no, I think that they sang it once, then made a mould of it and poured wax into that to get more copies of the song.
WarpZoner are you being sarcastic
Actually, they recorded onto a master cylinder, which was then used to mass produce copies.
Lavy Khurana No, if they actually had to sing it repeatedly it would cost far too much so very few people would buy it. Think how expensive it would be to pay the singers and orchestrator each copy.
Finally 26 years later I decided to look this song up. ❤
Same!

My grandmother used to sing this to us when we were kids.
I only know this song from titanic my favourite movie ever
I love you so much Jack and rose and Isabella
How old are you?
Heard this in Titanic and always wondered what it was. I remembered Jack singing it to Rose when they were on the front of the ship and when Rose was on the door almost frozen to death she was singing it to herself.
Rip jack and rose
And Isabella sing this when trying to find her way home In titanic
no man! my grandfather used to sing when i went to bed. brought tears !
such a masterpiece.
miss u grandpa😣
those who only come because of Titanic, I seriously suggest you check out more of both Ada Jones and Billy Murray. Together they didn't have too much popular stuff, but many gems. Apart for Ada, only a few gems. For Billy, he was one of the biggest artists of the 1900s - 1910s. There's so many good, catchy, and memorable songs that he did.
I'm 18 years old, and I think this is better than what most kids my age listen to.
I'm an older woman who owns 78's passed down from my great grandparents. As I want to preserve the 78's, I'm so glad that I can hear the music of my collection on RUclips! I've been adding to a RUclips Playlist, "Real Oldies. . .", and of course, since I like Billy Murray, I'm adding this one. I love going back in time with the music of this era!
78 years old can still play RUclips. It's different from Konoha 😂😂😂
I'm 12 years old and this is one of my favorite songs (2018)
Hi
And now you're 17, why is this so sad? 😢
In 2018 I was 13 and also enjoyed this song considerably. Not that it matters now since it's now almost 2024... but a fact to note nonetheless.
This song has become my comfort song, it can calm me down when I'm on the verge of tears or when I'm about to break something. Old music is truly magical.
Such a cute song.
Jack and rose love song
For a song from over 100 years ago it's still a catchy tune and yes Titanic is how I first knew about this song.
My great-grandmother was 2 years old when this song was recorded, unbelivable!!!!
Jack was 19 rose was 16
My grandfather sang this to me all the time, Wayback in the day💕
If you found this song soley because you like Billy Murray, then you're a real one.
I don’t care if it’s too old it’s still sounds good!
The quaint charms of this song include the youthful slang of that bygone era and the allure that rapidly developing aeroplane technology was having on young people.
Hey, kid!
Very nice my grandmother's name was Josephine yannuzzi this was her favorite song and now mine keep up the good work
The fact that this song is so cheery makes the ending of Titanic even more haunting...
I Came here because I HAVE LOVED THIS Cylinder since I was a Child! And I am 50 Years Old, I Got My First EDISON Blue Amberol Cylinder when I was in My early teens #3738 "Hesitation Blues" by Al Bernard! Look this one up! It is AWESOME! I found a Large amount of EDISON Cylinders after that! This was one of them! AND I Still Have them All!
1800s parents are like "you call this noise music? Wagner and Chopin, now that's real music. And turn that gramophone down!"
Its so funny how that works when you think about it
@Figi Moheder are you bloody serious?
@Figi Moheder I love classical music too but this is great too.
@Figi Moheder Lol I don’t imagine when to listen to this kind of song -it’s very much like something in a musical or at Disney.
They weren't ready for my rag time!
Ada Jones and Billy Murray are some of best, amazing duo.
Billy Murray a great singer who can be enjoyed by any generation. Thank you for posting this.
Im hearing from everyone they heard this in titanic, now i NEED to watch the movie with my parents! I talk about these two all the time, but they dont know about them and never heard of them. So good to know their music is in a movie. Rest in peace Miss Ada Jones and Billy Murray, the music they made is a gift to the world. Ill listen to them until i cant no more, and ill make sure my kids, grandkids, and great grandkids if possible will know about these two.
Their voices blended so well!
Same with jack and rose
When I hear this I think of nothing but Jack Dawson
same
I prefer think of Rose.
Ricardinho Rick lol maybe
and rose tho lmao
Jack and rose were soulmates this best song of them besides my heart will go on
Back when people sometimes literally held their noses while they sang, so that their voices would sound as "nasal", or as "sinuous" as possible. For some reason, the public really went for this sound. The songs themselves, like this sweet tune, were lovely & penned by talented people. Fast forward to the present day: IDK about YOU, but upon hearing the so-called "great" songs of today, I very often find myself holding MY nose -- but for a totally different reason.
Oh, I like this comment so much.
People today have run out of ideas and only agree to like anything due to "industry pressure" to make certain populations feel "valued".
I agree, old music had more charm to it. Now music is manufactured, not created.
I love it. I should have been born 100 years ago.
Me too

+JD00720 I wonder if there were fans who would hunt down the original copy in perfect condition. Did they have groupies?
Best song ever to the best movie couple ever rip jack and rose
I think I first heard this song in a British miniseries back in the 1970s called “Flambards”. It was set in the 1910s and one of the protagonists was very interested in the new technology of aviation.
It is one of the most beautiful and soothing melodies I have ever heard. I can scarcely name any other which can amount to, or better this song's level of magnificence.
It is quaint, innocent, sweet, and charming, like ragtime.
I'm here because my house was built in 1911 and I was curious as to the sound such a time.
I don’t care if this song is old I love it
You know, this was a major banger back in 1912
Actually it was 1911. The movie Titanic took place in 1912😊
One of my Grandma's favorite songs.
This music is beatiful 😢
I'm here because I'm interested in music from the turn of the last century. But I do have to admit I recognized the chorus right away from the Rose character singing it in Titanic which makes sense as this song came out in 1911 and the Titanic sank in 1912 when this song would have still been very popular.
This is so cool 😎..to have these songs of fun and simple times...in 2024....this music 🎵🎶 is for all time.... They will be heading this in 2034....2044...2054..etc....it is wonderful young people are finding this and enjoying it...along with the music 🎵🎶 their generation.... just as I am doing with the music 🎵🎶 of mine 😎

To the sky dear
Oh, you flying machine!
Jump in Miss Josephine
Ship Ahoy!
Oh, joy! What a feeling
Feels cold, thru the ceiling. Ho, high!
Hoopla, we fly! To the sky so high
Come Josephine, in my flying machine
Going up, she goes! Up she goes!

In the air she goes; there she goes!
Up, up, a little bit higher
Oh, my! The moon is on fire
Come, Josephine in my flying machine
Going up, all on, "Goodbye"

Oh, no, not yet but soon. You for me

I grew up hearing this song as the background to some of the Saturday morning cartoons, sung by (I would imagine) 1950's studio musicians. I never knew the song was this old. The pics and drawings were incredible as well. Thank you, Starcruizer, for sharing this amazing piece of history.
I love this song, and I find myself listening to it at least once a week ❤

I love this song makes me cry. I wish I was around during this time. I have flashbacks listening to this song of what it must have been like during the last moments of the Titanic and how the people must have been very scared. RIP Titanic xxx
Cool thanks everyone i love music from the old times keep up the good work
This song is just as catchy as it was over a hundred years ago.
Planes back then looked so dangerous. Legit a glider with a motor. You don’t even think about how much everything has changed in 100 years.
What’s interesting to note was that their voices weren’t obviously that high. It just sounds like that over recording devices back then so I wonder how it sounded with their normal voices
This explains the picture of Rose at the end of Titanic standing beside a plane..directors really don’t miss anything, and now I’m sure I’ll cry even harder when I see the movie again..
I always liked this song many years before Titanic came out and it was a nice surprise when Jack and Rose sang it in the film.
"say, don't hit the moon! Oh no, not yet but soon." little did they know that only 58 years later we would be on the moon.

Remember that it was played when Homer Simpson told the karaoke man, "Just play the oldest, stupidest thing you have!"
It's cool to hear the originals of songs used.
100 years old
I just paused Titanic to listen to this song, and realized my aunt is going on a flying machine to Europe for the first time. It was her dying wish to see Europe. Unfortunately, she has terminal cancer. I know, my aunt will have the best time of her life. She flew from CA to here so I saw her a couple of days and will see her for a few days when she returns, and perhaps, if God grants a miracle I will very happily see her for many more.
Me too I can watch titanic every day
Thank God for the Public Domain.
I believe this is the type of harmless comedy the Edwardians loved, Gertie Millar is a prime example of comedy from this time period.
This song is really catchy I looked it up when rose was sing it on the door There is also a deleted scene where Jack and rose are singing it together
This song is a waltz
2021 anyone??
Today we don’t even notice the contrails of airliners going by at 35,000 ft. Or we are aggravated at the wait to board a plane in order to travel across the continent in a few hours.
I’d love to have this sense of awe and fascination again.
Where are all the "I was born in the wrong generation" comments?
