My Great Great Great Grandpa was 5 when this came out personally I prefer Big Band Jazz from the 1920s but I’ll still listen and respect this music. I cannot stand music after 1985 and I’m 13.
My grandad used to play this when I was a little girl and pick me up and dance round the living room with me, and as soon as the song was over id say again again again:') this is the one song that can bring me to tears!
I always think this song, and this recording - seems modern for its time. It is very much like do-wop from the 50s. I am certain, and heard examples that you could say was rock and roll from back then - incredible!
Now you mention it about the doo wop i can see your comparison ..also at the turn of the century barber shop staff would sing acapella to entice customers and that was probably the predecessor to doo wop
I work in elder care and sing this to my residents.. this is the first time I have heard a vintage recording of this song. It's so wonderful.. thanks for sharing!

My grandmother would make me play this on her piano. She said it was the first song she and my grandfather ever danced to. They were married at Old St.Joseph's, in Springfield Ill in 1914. Tears.
my grandad died recently at the age of 91 and i regret not asking him what type of music he liked, i would have loved to see if he listened to stuff like this
Well this would have been too early for him, but I'm sure he would have known it, and wouldhave enjoyed the vintage songs on RUclips. I know my mother certainly would have, it's such a shame that RUclips was not around when she was alive.
Actually, in small towns, there were picnics and other events at which there was community singing at least into the 50s, with much of the music being from the turn of the century. Sometime in the 60s, there seems to have been a disconnect with prior periods of music. It was rock or nothing. Likewise, in "serious" orchestral music, all previous notions of harmony and tunefulness were jettisoned. Frankly, there is little, aside from some movie scores, that I feel is worth listening to since then, at least in the US. Thanks to You Tube, I am finding some rays of hope in EUrope

Easy to hear the harmonies that were later "reinvented" when doo wop reigned. So much of our music today is very closely tied to ragtime and Tin Pan Alley. Folks just don't know!
My mom said she used to sang this to me when i was a baby, although i'm sure it was a remake she heard somewhere as she as well as i was born quite a few years after 1911.Good to hear the original. Thanks for the upload!!!

I love this song too! This is yet another one that was in the White Star Line Orchestra's songbook prior to 1912, thus was probably performed by their musicians on the RMS Titanic.

Something about music from the early 20th century just tugs at my heartstrings.
It could be either the sound quality or the fact that this is better singing most pop singers toady
It could also be the fact that you're listening to a person singing who has long since passed.
@@L0RDK3Y I think you just about hit the nail on the head...back then you either could sing or you couldn't

I swear to god every song Ada and this man made was an absolute banger.
I can't believe this version! The rhythm makes it sound like '50s rock. And this is by far my favorite Billy Murray song now.
The year my Grandma was born! RIP, Grandma Sue! Such beautiful music.

Some other examples of 1910s proto-rock and roll are Casey Jones (1910) and Denver Town (1909).

Si jamais tu me laisses comme mon cœur me ferait mal,
Si jamais tu me laisses comme mon cœur me ferait mal,
