This is amazing content. I used to watch gothamchess but thought his videos were too simple (I am 1650). You explain things very clearly; I really feel like I'm improving by watching your videos. Could you do a video on how to create attacking opportunites with the Pirc?
@@chessforfunonly1586 You're one of those people who get pinned in his videos for the needless hate comments. Gothamchess got me to 1400 from 1000, a great starting place.
@@JosephLachh You could have reached higher and higher if you watched Stjepan's middle game combined with Gingergm longer game series. After that, you will come to know that: Gingergm and Hanging pawns >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gothamchess I watch Gotham videos just for the fun and entertainment and sometimes rarely instructive.
Because you don't really study them. Me neither tbh. I play a lot of blitz and usually I don't remember move by move either, but the ideas are thrre and they guide the first 5-10 moves.
If you want to get a blast of pure theory, Stjepan is the man. Great stuff. Been learning the French, like the Kings Indian defence for d4, thought I would try the pirc as an alternative to the French, so these videos are very useful.
I am also a KING'S INDIAN DEFENSE player. And Caro Kann was my favourite and I learned it completely with Stjepan. Is French actually good? Cuz I always seem to crush it (1950 level) and I tried it long time back but wasn't a good one. Caro Kann is very good and won me 50 percent games
I agree as a Pirc Defense player I only play 5.c5. I know it's not the best move to play because after takes you wasted time but so much simpler to play and almost everyone plays takes. I only got the bishop to check a few times and never thought it was any good because they just trade. I think I only got e5 once in a blitz game against a higher rated opponent and got crushed. Now I understand why and knowing that forced draw is really good for both sides.
It takes effort in presenting such complete understanding, Thank You for your Generosity here and on all your over he top outstanding Videos! ... Mike.
Used the kurajica variation in a tournament game yesterday to get my highest otb elo win ever! Besides that it was just fun to play, we had opposite side castling I gave up an exchange for two pawns and had my h pawn on h7 for most of the game. Thanks for your awesome content!
!,00 % appreciated greatly by so many. We want to know how to Play the Pirc Well, and how to smash it. Both are equally important here & You are the single man for that best undertaking! So Says: "Oregon Mike H"
At 5:28 he says, taking e5 is not an option because fxe5 leads to a losing position, but what about Nxe5? That one looks viable with a fair exchange opening up by exchanging pawns and knights. Any thoughts?
I have a question, I often play the move h3, mainly to stop black's knight from taking white's dark square bishop (so i can exchange on h6), and also it restricts black's light square bishop from pinning the knight on f3. Is this a waste of a tempo?
Because when someone plays d6, they're going to play g6 bg7, and knight out. Not technically forced, but when someone plays d6 and then does something else, it's because they don't know what they're doing. (d6 signals their opening) Like if I play d4 and bf4, I'm playing the London, so I'm going to go for my pyramid pawn structure.
Thank you very much for wonderful video with wonderful instruction techniques which I used your technique while I study my opening repertoire Could you please make videos on hedgehog opening Thank you
i just wondering why didn't you include the old steinitz variation in your ruy lopez series? does that variation got already refuted or not that common anymore?
I wanted to cover the main variations. It seemed like the series would be 30 videos if I went through all of them (kind of what I did with the Sicilian later)
There is a channel with all variations of the ruy lopez. ruclips.net/video/GUUaVzQQs0c/видео.html 32 videos if you want. it is very interesting. the guy did not put it in a playlist so you have to look for them
If 13.h3 like at 6:33 then not 13...Nh6? but 13...Bh6!. Then all three top-level games I found continued 14.Ng5! exf4 15.Nxf7! Rxf7 16.hxg4 Bg5. Two ended in draw and black won one.
Interesting but this is probably the worst line one can play with white which is still winning according to Computers. It should have been even more top players. White made obvious mistake lol 😂
6:52 Unzicker Attack
8:38 Be2
9:32 Weiss Variation
15:48 Dragon Formation
16:00 dxc5
3:20 Be3 (Kurajica variation)
Thanks!

Sure, and if Black plays Ng4, I simply go back with Bg1 and later h3 and return to Be3. The position is closed anyway

What do you mean? That's protected three times. No fair exchange there; you just lose a piece
I have a question, I often play the move h3, mainly to stop black's knight from taking white's dark square bishop (so i can exchange on h6), and also it restricts black's light square bishop from pinning the knight on f3. Is this a waste of a tempo?
I think it is. You should aim for positions in which you get to exchange without h3. Perhaps going for an earlier f5, Be3, Qd2, Bh6?
OUTSTANDING QUESTION!
Wish you would do a video on the advantage of the modern over the pirc in avoiding or blunting the Austrian attack formation of pawns at d4, e4 & f4.

Do you know why it is called the Austrian Attack ?
Yes Please
Maybe because Pirc was born in Austria-Hungary. I know Pirc's is the defense against it, but they seem inextricably linked in chess terminology.
