It is called the 150 attack after English players. They have a separate rating system to Fide and it was popularized by players with a rating around 150. That’s as much as I know🤷🏼♂️
150 would be about 1700-1800 FIDE. Many weekend chess tournament players used the attack as an easy way to fight against the Pirc, so it got the name “The 150 Attack”.
Yes spot on the idea of 150 attack name is that it only works against a lower rated player such as 150 ECF rating. Check out 4.Be3 .. a5 response seems really interesting for black. Pirc subtle opening for black, if black player keeps his nerve, has numerous weapons and counter attack options for the over confident white player.
I've been watching your videos for some time now, and i have got to say, your dedication, discipline and workrate is just inspiring to a Chess novice as myself. Amazing! Best Chess videos on RUclips! I was wondering if you have any plans for a Kings Indian series in the near future? Its my favourite response to d4. Best of luck to you!
Thank you Arno:) Yes, the KID is coming in the d4 series. Due to numerous requests it will be the first opening. It should come up sometime in April or late March

Great job! Lot of knowledge but put it in simple way.
I think '150 attack' is called like that because in England they said it was so easy to carry on that even a 150 level player could use it successfully. I think they use ECF rating (English Chess Federation). Another version I found is because all white pieces except from pawns sum up 150 points... ¿?
I am a modern defense player but I was recommended by a FM to consider the pirc because it leads to similar positions, but with less theoretical knowledge required. I'm impressed by this video and will enjoy your other pirc vids, and will continue to watch your modern ones too :)
Nice video and I'm happy to see the Pirc covered because right now I do not really have anything against the it. Are you going to cover the Modern after the Pirc because of their similarity or are you going to cover something else?
Another brilliant video. Very informative. I have always got into a cramped position leading to a very sharp attack and quick loss. Looking forward to learning some ideas... Thank You For Your Efforts!!
I'm trying to learn the Pirc defense to advance from 1650 to 17-1800+ but whenever I play against very solid players, I always end up a pawn down and it stems from a center push which fails. Could you make a video covering center push strategy?
The exact video I was lookin for my friend plays the pirc defense I usually play f4 when goes c6 now I’ll play him more aggressively with the move Be3 sac sac mate!!!
Hi, I just came across your videos while searching for insights on Pirc defense. I like your content a lot, insightful and to the point. I have a question - as a beginner I often face opponents that do not go for 2.d4 but play something more passive, like 2.d3 or 2.Nc3. What should I do in such case? Stick with development along the main line, or take the opportunity to play 2....e5 uncontested? Thanks!
Great instruction video , easy to understand , i also play the Pirc. I'm 1600-1700 so this is good additional info. i will add you to one of my favorites including GingerGM . :))))) I just subscribed :))))

I've been pronouncing it wrong. Thanks for giving the correct pronunciation and explaining how the opening should work. I'm not a fan of the Pirc because of what it allows for white. Engaging instruction as usual.
No problem David. I'm not a huge fan either, but still, knowing how to defeat it is necessary (and if you follow Sun Tzu, the best way is to learn it yourself:)
I'm just now learning the real theory behind the game. I knew how the pieces moved but nothing about openings or hanging pieces, 3 way guards and sacrifices. I have issues with vision though. Sometimes I can see exactly what they want me to do and why. Some games I can see 6 moves ahead. Most games I make mistakes, I have a 2 move vision, I leave pieces unguarded, and have problem focusing on the whole board instead of imminent attack. I know that's their plan but I cant seem to break it
GM Akobian is known for playing the Czech pirc and GM Simon Williams for playing the black lion. These are worth knowing and not included in the series.
Thanks for making these, what about the Czech-Pirc Defense with f6 instead of b6, with the idea to move the Queen to the 5th rank on the next move to pin the white King? Any thoughts on that variation?
You will be GM very soon, you are having many followers from all over the world, Nobody gives nice explanation like u...thanks very much Stefen I want you to make more videos on endgame
Hi Thanks for the nice videos. I like your channel a lot because it has a nice pace. Sometimes (mostly) my mind feel dizzy due to rapid intake of information. But I prefer it this way rather than slowly going over the moves. Here i want to say that you and GM Ben Finegold are my teachers of chess from RUclips. In his videos one thing I don't like is that for a long time he goes over very slowly and suddenly the moves are so rapid that it become hard to follow. I have one question regarding this opening. Many times my opponents play 2... g7 before Nf6 then is it OK to go for three pawn centre. Does three pawn centre has any advantage at all? Thank you in advance
Dear Stepan, can you show what black should o if white refuses to ply 2.d4 and instead plays 2.Nc3 or 2.f4. Is there a good plan which goes not into the Sicilian Grand Prix?
What if white decides to chase the knight in the opening with 3. e5? I assume it leads to the exchange of queens by black, followed by 5. Kxd1 Ng4. But isn't that just worse for black?
Its hard to understand....1st white is on my side but im supposed to learn with black, instead learning to play against the pirc...try to change that plis🙏teach from the black side if its a defense opening
@@HangingPawns oh I am surprised because your understanding of chess is of higher level than 1880. definitely above 2100. well done. and you are still young - how old are you? :-)
They called this the 150 Attack, because players of this strength (ELO 1800) can easily play this position and get strong play without any theory. The original Argentine idea probably is only viable after 4. Be3 Bg7 5. Qd2 0-0 6.0-0-0 c6 (or Nc6)
