    I started playing chess in August of 2023 and I just crossed the 1050 mark today. I am currently playing the London system and queen’s gambit as white and the Sicilian defence and king’s Indian defence as black. I will happily include this in my arsenal especially because I was looking for something to play as white in place of the London system

    Hey Sammy thanks!!! awesome presentation. Your commentary is very precise and eloquent. Taking this trip down memory lane- years back when I was a kid- it's a pleasure seeing your Gen Z looking at Fischer's games- brilliant games indeed.

    i love how common expressions from Ben Finegold have entered into the parlance of chess conversation. never play f6, always play king b1, c4 is explosive, knife f5, etc. he's our own rodney dangerfield. when i started playing semi-professionally in 2015 i watched all those st. louis chess center lectures, great times. still had all my hair!
    great content niche man, these focused vids on specific openings attached to distinctive players is a great idea. Would love to see Vladimir Kovacevic (?) and the French defense, he absolutely murdered Bobby Fischer with the French and has a few absolute gems in that opening. Check it out, Sammy.
    btw hopefully this does not offend but you resemble my cousin who is also named Sammy, but he has the most obscene 'fro. haha, cheers

    • @lukemarks3281
      @lukemarks3281 7 месяцев назад +1

      People say Master sometimes when the GM is well known to be a GM, or a lesser known player is not a GM but just a master of some sort. Half open files are also sometimes just called open files for short when their openness is not super important. Not satisfactory answers, I suppose, but yeah.

    Bobby Fisher spent a lot of time on a copra plantation on the island of Cebu in the Phillipines. Hosted by the family of a Phillipino Grand Master. It seems he was very private in his personal life avoiding the glare of his fame. Two thousand acres of palm trees will give you that privacy.

    Myagmarsuren might've been a master, but the strategy he chose in that game wasn't great. Fischer played a slow and passive system, Myagmarsuren should've taken over the center and attacked on the king side. Instead he chose to push pawns on the wrong side of the board. Even a great player like Fischer has to play defense, if he's attacked. This type of play was probably a novelty at the time, so Myagmarsuren was confused and tried to play a French, even though the opening wasn't the French. In chess, you can't just force your opening on the opponent. If one player makes the moves of a French Defense and the other does something completely different, the opening isn't a French Defense. At 5:20 all of black's pieces are on the queen side doing nothing, while white is harassing black's king.

    • @billagap3213
      @billagap3213 7 месяцев назад +2

      Black played fine for a lower rated player and his opening moves were good. Even today against king's Indian attack, black attacks on the queenside if black castles kingside. KIA is a kingside attacking opening mostly and in this game if black had attacked on the kingside after having castled there, it would have been a slaughter for black. Only way to attack White's kingside in the KIA is when you have opposite side castling and you exploit the g3 hook. Also if black had tried to open the centre here, Fischer (having experience in this opening) would close the centre and focus on the kingside. Only thing black possibly did wrong was placing every single piece in the queenside without leaving at least a rook or knight for defense

    • @sebu1301
      @sebu1301 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@billagap3213 That's what I mean, he could've chosen the strategy you described. I think giving Fischer e5 sealed his fate. It might feel wrong to push the e-pawn twice, but that's just too much to give that square up in that position, it's like putting a red carpet out for white to march on

    • @lukemarks3281
      @lukemarks3281 7 месяцев назад +23

      GMs will play things other than the Italian based openings with white when they don't want to show their prep to others, or if they simply like the opening. The difference between a definite .5 or .8 advantage where your opponent knows all the possible lines, and being simply .1 or .3 where your opponent doesn't, is not terribly important. The further back in time you go, or the lower rated you are, that .1 or .3 can more easily lead to a blunder and or being even stronger.
