The Amish have been making chicken and waffles for almost 400 years in the PA Dutch country. The chicken isn't fried, but cooked and shredded. It then goes on top of the waffles with a chicken based gravy poured on top. I grew up with that version, but enjoy both. Love your channel. Prost !

As someone whose from Louisiana I know our food just hits differently. Anytime I go out of the state (unless it's BBQ) I nearly always left feeling underwhelmed by the food in the region. Especially when they try and make cajun or creole foods.

If you ever get a chance to head back to New Orleans, I would recommend going in April. At that time of year it's not too hot(New Orleans gets really hot in Summer due to humidity), it's before hurricane season and they have Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest, which are fun festivals.
Now when you get home, you can try dipping your chicken into honey. That's really good, too, but the syrup is absolutely classic. Love watching you discover Southern food, and hope you're also enjoying New Orleans itself, as well.

@@thebritstry If you're in New Orleans, you should focus on New Orleans food. Think Cajun food. Anywhere in the South will produce amazing cuisine, but New Orleans is a southern cuisine that is truly New Orleans. Think Gumbo, Jambalaya, Crab boils, Beignets, Etouffee, Po Boys, etc.
Hello this is Marcella from Maryland. As you see America is a very big place. The food changes as you move around from West to East. North and South. Certain foods are better north in some places its just knowing where. West had it own take on things and good food can be found if you speak to the right locals. South as you have seen speaks for itself.East also has a different take on things. So Nicola hold on tight you are in for more taste explosions
We have this version of chicken and waffles in Pennsylvania and it is quite good. However...The Pennsylvania Dutch version is quite different. It's usually shredded chicken cooked in a white/gravy sauce. The waffles are served with mashed potatoes and the chicken/gravy is smothered over the potatoes and waffles. A local place has it once a week as their special. All you can eat! This mass of carbs hits you like a truck and it's very difficult to make it through a second helping. It's like eating a warm hug. Requires a nap afterwards! BTW...As I watched I was screaming...THE BISCUIT, THE BISCUIT...Butter and dip the biscuit in the syrup!!! Thanks for your time.
We would love to try that! That Pennsylvania Dutch version sounds like a unique twist on chicken and waffles! Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

One of the best twists I've had on the recipe, which surely isn't for purists... but was a version at a diner that had jalapeños added to the waffle batter. It hit right with the syrup and chicken in all the best ways and I say that as someone who isn't typically a fan of jalapeños!

Now, you're eating southern. I've never had bone in or dark meat chicken with waffles, only boneless chicken breasts. Interesting take on a fantastic dish.
They were actually eating northern since chicken and waffles comes from New York. When the Harlem jazz clubs would finally close in the wee hours of the morning, the hungry musicians and club workers would want something substantial to eat, but it was also getting close to breakfast time for normal people, so they combined supper and breakfast in chicken and waffles. Of course, many of those people had roots in the South, so chicken and waffles is closely related to southern cooking, but its origin is in NYC and only later made its way back to the South.
I really enjoy your adventures. Some of the others I have watched are kind of gimmicky. Your real reactions are refreshing. I am a displaced northerner in the deep south. None of the foods you tried in NO are foods found in Boston when I was growing up. keep up the great content.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for giving our channel a chance! We loved our time in New Orleans and exploring new foods! We would also love to visit Boston in the future!
A simple trick to eat Chicken and Waffles is to make a sandwich out of it. I like pulling the chicken from the bone and placing it on half the waffle. Pour the syrup over the chicken and then place the other half of the waffle on top. Bing Bang and eat like a sandwich.
Daisy Mae's is amazing, so congrats on another successful meal and excellent choice! (I don't know why it surprised me that y'all were surprised by the combination of fried chicken with waffles. Sometimes, I forget that the rest of the planet doesn't know about our amazing food here in the South. 😂)
@thebritstry I'm so glad you had friendly servers. They make all the difference in the world. (Just curious, we're y'all able to get your hands on some King Cake or Bananas Foster? Proper beignets, maybe?)
Ah, it's always fun seeing Brits (or anyone not from the US basically lol) try chicken and waffles because truth be told it IS a weird combo. But it works so well. Sweet and savory in general work well together, so the syrup (and powdered sugar on the waffles lol) helps cut through all that fat from the deep fry/oil of the chicken and just tastes good together. I don't think you said in the video or not, but the best kind (imo) of chicken and waffles, is to have it with maple syrup (the real kind, not the fake garbage kind most places have). Just DELISH. In any event, there are SO many unique and landmark places to eat in New Orleans it isn't even funny. The French Quarter has some of the best seafood (ick) restaurants in the world and you'll find incredible southern/cajun/creole places all over (though I'm not sure how Hurricane Katrina affected that sadly, but it has been nearly 20 years so more places might have opened I don't know) including some very high-end places if you are into that sort of dining experience. Not to mention quite a few hole in the wall joints that (again, imo) have some of the best food you'll ever have. Honestly only NYC and maybe Chicago and old parts of San Fran or LA equal New Orleans in the food amazingness and history area. I'm talking places that have been open since you know, 1880 or 1910 or just have a ton of history etc.
Thanks for your comment! We agree, chicken and waffles can be a surprising combination, but it definitely works. The sweet and savory flavors complement each other so well. And next time we will try and find maple syrup instead.

Wow! that sounds life changing... We will try an find it! But which style of pizza is the best?
@@thebritstry It’s so good! I think pepperoni is a safe choice, but any pizzas topped with cured meats would complement best in my opinion; pepperoni, soppressata, prosciutto, pastrami, etc. Pretty much any type of meat you’d see on a charcuterie board would work.
Thanks for the recommendations! we are hoping to try some different pizza's bases in the future
Glad to see you didn't drag that out to your car to eat it! You all need to order your own plates! LOL
LOL!! We need 2 portions from now on!
At first I thought no to syrup on the chicken but then again I love bacon with waffles, pancakes and French toast. Looks Delicious!
We need more videos please❤
The sweet and savory thing is amazingly good! Thank you for watching and your very kind words. We certainly have more videos to follow
50 states with different choices to try! Please keep up the videos! ❤
Thank you for your kind words.. We would love to get around them all and we have more trips in the planning.
Glad you like this. Great food. Take care...
Thanks for taking the time to comment! take care....
You two are so cute together! Watching you, with the joy and happiness on display in each moment, is like sunshine and a warm breeze for the ❤.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We really do appreciate it!
The Amish have been making chicken and waffles for almost 400 years in the PA Dutch country. The chicken isn't fried, but cooked and shredded. It then goes on top of the waffles with a chicken based gravy poured on top. I grew up with that version, but enjoy both.
Love your channel. Prost !
That's really interesting, we didn't know that! it also sounds delicious. Thanks for the information.
Yes, America has such a great mix of culture and food.
I prefer honey to syrup and it tasted wonderful.
Thank you for sharing your preference! Honey does add a special touch to dishes.
Blue Oak BBQ in New Orleans looks good. Jolly went there a couple of months ago, I don't know if that would make a difference or not. I hope you enjoy eating your way thru New Orleans!
Try some King Cake! ( but please don't eat the baby!😉)
P. S. I live in Louisiana, and have family down in New Orleans!
Thanks for the tip! There are so many options in New Orleans and there was just not enough time on this trip, but we would love to go back again soon. We will add Blue Oak to our list of place to try.
That's Awesome! We loved it and we would love to escape out of New Orleans to try and visit the rest of the State.
Rlly hope u guys grow big on RUclips calling it right now
Thank you so much for your kind words! lets hope RUclips are listening😂
As someone whose from Louisiana I know our food just hits differently. Anytime I go out of the state (unless it's BBQ) I nearly always left feeling underwhelmed by the food in the region. Especially when they try and make cajun or creole foods.
We are still learning but we were very impressed. We tried so many new things while in New Orleans and We LOVED it! we definitely enjoyed our time in New Orleans.
Ham bacon eggs
Hashbrowns and texas toast. Best dinner I've ever had 😊
That sounds delicious! Where would you recommend we try and find this?
🧡 When Nicola is focused on her food, watch out honey! 😂😂 I love chicken and waffles and so glad you guys enjoyed it. Tfs!
Thanks for watching and for your kind words! We both loved it! Stay tuned for more delicious food adventures!
I get such a kick out of watching y’all eat on something that for us seems so normal but for you guys it seems to be a revelation-hilarious I love it , keep going
Thank you so much for your support and kind words! It was delicious...
If you ever get a chance to head back to New Orleans, I would recommend going in April. At that time of year it's not too hot(New Orleans gets really hot in Summer due to humidity), it's before hurricane season and they have Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest, which are fun festivals.
We really appreciate your suggestion! It's always great to hear from fellow travelers about the best times to visit different places.
Now when you get home, you can try dipping your chicken into honey. That's really good, too, but the syrup is absolutely classic. Love watching you discover Southern food, and hope you're also enjoying New Orleans itself, as well.
New Orleans was Amazing, so much to eat, see and do! We just wish we had a longer time there. But a least we get chance to go back and see more. We will try the Chicken and Honey next time. Thanks for the suggestion
I love watching Brits try our southern food. My heart is happy!
Thanks for sharing the southern food with us ! our stomachs were happy 😂
@@thebritstry wonderful! That’s all we want is to feed people yummy things! So so happy you could visit and eat ❤️
Thank you! We will be back in the future as there was so much to see and eat! we have more videos from the trip uploading on Thursday.
@@thebritstry I’m very excited to see them! Also, the invite to my home still stands ha! By the time you come back you will know I’m ok because I promise you won’t see me in the news for being a serial k word or a weirdo 🤣
Love this for you. It is weird from the outside looking in but its just one of those...you gotta try it and it will all make sense.
Yes the sweet & savory combo is like nothing else! we loved it...
Nicola is GIVING Max Shaw vibes and I love it. The chuckles and all the food on her plate, my girl!
Thanks for sharing!
Just discovered your channel love it!!!
Yay! Thank you! welcome!!!
Scrumptious

It was delicious!!!
Glad i found you guys...thanks appreciate you❤❤
Wow, thanks for your kind words and thanks for watching.
You can find some FANTASTIC red beans and rice with andoulli sausage in New Orleans! Give it a try! Also Go team Andrew!
Thanks for watching and the suggestion on the red beans and rice. We tried alot of dishes while in New Orleans (including red beans and rice) we will upload the video soon!
@@thebritstry It's great watching the two of you experiencing all of the things here in America. I hope you get to do everything you want.
Thank you!
Now you see why us Americans are so big we all love our food ...just wait til you try Real barbecue.. Americans get into their Barbecue..glad you guys are enjoying it all
We can't wait to try some real BBQ, Let us know if you have any recommendations on where to try and what to get! Thanks for watching
@@thebritstry North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee for BBQ pulled pork and ribs..... Texas for BBQ beef -- brisket, beef ribs and burnt ends. And you should have it with mac and cheese, sweet tea, green beans, fried okra, collards, and white bread. Perfection!
@@thebritstryif you get to Texas I'll suggest a few places, depending on the city you're visiting.
Thank you we will share the location of our next trip soon! we would love any suggestions.
@@thebritstry Texas is a big state where it take a day to drive across lol. I have drove all over Texas and have had great bbq all over the state. One place I had to go to was Snows bbq because the pitmaster is an 80 yr old woman and it's only open Saturday.
Absolutely love your reactions. Now, I’m hungry lol.
Haha, sorry to make you hungry! Maybe we should all grab snacks before watching the videos next time 😉
Ohhhh, excellent idea!! @@thebritstry
This is making me want to eat! 😂 Great job Nicola & Andrew this was good! 👍🏻
Well it's dinner time somewhere! Thank you!
LOL@@thebritstry
I hope you go to a place and try Gumbo and Jambalaya. Both Iconic New Orleans dishes. Amazing flavors.
Red Beans and Rice is another one to try as well.
Thanks for sharing the recommendations. We did try these! we will upload the videos soon!
When you take some people for every country in the world from so many different cultures an call them Americans you will find that the cuisine is far different an diverse an I love it
Thank you for sharing! We are so grateful to live in a country where I can experience such a wide range of cuisines.
your from california? Try ROSCO"S chicken and waffles its good !!!!! and if you go to ATLANTA they have a famous chicken and waffle place too !!! also Nashville does chicken and waffles everywhere lol
Thanks for the recommendations! We will check out Roscos in California and we should look to organize a trip to Nashville or Atlanta.
it's fallen off since the 80s, I was in LA a few months ago and was disappointed. I use to go to the one in LB on E Broadway
brits make eating food a total science project. they are hilarious.
Thank you for watching and appreciating the humor in our videos! We love exploring different foods and their food traditions.
I love these videos of our cousins (The Brits) enjoying flavor for the first time in their lives! We Americans have a sense of pity, then it changes to a sense of pride after eating American food. Just remember, it's all regional when it comes to food in the US, and America is huge! Don't let the starting views/subscribers deter you both from your content. It takes time, but you'll get there!
Thank you so much for your support and kind words! We're glad you enjoy our videos and appreciate your encouragement. We want to keep visiting different states to try the different foods! Let us know if you have any recommendations on where we should visit!
Thanks for the tip! We tried alot of those foods and will upload the videos as soon as possible.
@@thebritstry Can't wait to see!
I would love to see you trying gumbo, poboys sandwiches, jambalaya, fried catfish, greens, oxtails, cornbread, red beans & rice, macaroni and cheese, blackeyed peas, pork crackling 😋 😋 😋
Thanks for the recommendations... We have already upload this video with Gumbo from New Orleans ruclips.net/video/waLcMsuOj40/видео.html We will upload the Po Boy video soon..
I absolutely love this food ❤
It was delicious and New Orleans was so much fun. Thanks for watching
One of the best twists I've had on the recipe, which surely isn't for purists... but was a version at a diner that had jalapeños added to the waffle batter. It hit right with the syrup and chicken in all the best ways and I say that as someone who isn't typically a fan of jalapeños!
Wow! Thanks for the tip! that sounds delicious with a spicy twist! we will look out for that on our next trip soon!
In our house we used waffles as a substitute for bread with lots of different foods, sweet and savory.
We can see why you would do that! they work so well with savory foods! Thanks for watching
This couple is so much fun to watch. The south has the BEST food!! Come down to Texas 🤠 where everything is bigger and better!
Hey, thanks for watching! Texas is definitely on the list of places we want to visit. Hopefully Soon!
You guys are doing it absolutely right eating your way across America 🇺🇸..because we Americans love food
We want to visit as many states as we can! let us know if you have any recommendation for us?
@thebritstry I live san francisco and were so spoiled here when it comes to dining so I'm definitely biased but I'm raised in New Yorks hudson valley and no place in America can compete with new Yorks hudson valleys Italian fare period ..including NYC....I'm subscribed and you guys are a great duo ..enjoy your takes on american your American dining experience..great job
I could practically taste the deliciousness from my house in North Carolina!
So good! loved it.
You guys need to try Goldees BBQ in Texas can’t wait for your reaction
We would love to visit Texas and hopefully we can get there soon! we will check out Goldee's BBQ and see if we can get there. What should we order when we get there?
i worked at popeyes for a bit and they had a promotional item that ive craved ever since. it was the chicken tenders, but instead of the regular batter, it was waffle batter. it came with a syrup cup. idk if it was just a one time thing they did. i got 3 of them bad boys on my lunch break for like a month
Wow! that sounds amazing! let us know if you ever see that again! Thanks for sharing
Salty/spicy & sweet is a universal flavor combination! In South Korea its called 단짠 or danjan danjan and almost always goes hand in hand!
Thanks for the Information! and thanks for watching. We would love to try some South Korean food in the future! What would you recommend?
The Louisiana Crystal hot sauce was right there! A few drops goes a long way for chicken and waffles.
We miss the opportunity on that day! but we did try some hot sauce on another day! Thanks for watching!
Tuyệt vời ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!!!
Daisy Mae’s Southern Fried Chicken and Breakfast on Poydras St. in New Orleans.
Love to see Brits traveling to the USA to try our cuisine.
Thanks for your kind words... The food was delicious in New Orleans! We would love to visit as many states as follows. We tried so many different things and will upload more videos soon.
@@thebritstry
I love to see your facial expressions when you try something your palette enjoys. Can you believe you guys went from opening packages from the USA to having a cooking channel? Stay blessed❤️
Now, you're eating southern. I've never had bone in or dark meat chicken with waffles, only boneless chicken breasts. Interesting take on a fantastic dish.
It was so delicious! but i could definitely see how boneless chicken could be easier
Thanks for the information!
@@markhamstra1083 well...we do it better. LoL
You are in the south everything is great
We loved it! Hope to get back soon. Is there anywhere else we should try?
As for the syrup, I would dip as I go. ✌Hi from NYC.
Hi! thanks for watching. It is such a great combination!
Wow! thats a great idea! Next time....
Daisy Mae's is amazing, so congrats on another successful meal and excellent choice!
(I don't know why it surprised me that y'all were surprised by the combination of fried chicken with waffles. Sometimes, I forget that the rest of the planet doesn't know about our amazing food here in the South. 😂)
It's so good! and Daisy Mae's was delicious and the server was so helpful!
@thebritstry I'm so glad you had friendly servers. They make all the difference in the world.
(Just curious, we're y'all able to get your hands on some King Cake or Bananas Foster? Proper beignets, maybe?)
Your Right! We tried so many dishes in the short time we had in New Orleans. We have more videos uploading over the next week, starting on Thursday
And next time we will try and find maple syrup instead.
chicken and waffles with hot sauce and syrup is a great combination.
Thanks for the suggestion. We missed the hot sauce on this but next time we will try it! we did have it on other dishes while in New Orleans.
Y’all (can you tell I’m from the south? 😂), chicken and waffles is DELISH much like sausage gravy and biscuits! I love seeing reactions to our yummy American food from people who are not from here!
Thanks for watching and giving our channel a chance! the experience of visiting New Orleans was amazing! We can't wait to visit more states in the future.
I haven't tried this combo yet though I know a restaurant down the street where I can get some. The closest I've had is a chicken honey biscuit at Wendy's. I ordered it not knowing it had honey but I loved it so I imagine I would like this too.
Thanks for sharing. It was delicious! If you liked the wendy's option, this would blow your mind.
New Orleans is easily one of the top food cities in the US.
P.S. the way that she doesn’t like to share is hilarious. She’s my spirit animal 😂😂😂
Thanks for taking the time to comment! We couldn't agree more! New Orleans has such a rich culinary scene that it's hard not to fall in love with the food there.
Very true! Breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Is all top tier in NOLA
So True! We tried so many dishes in the short time we had in New Orleans. We have more videos uploading over the next week, starting on Thursday
Great job again. I hope you try some Alligator tail while in the area.

Thanks for your very kind words! and for giving our little channel a chance...
You gotta try jambalaya and gumbo there as well
Thanks for the suggestion. We did! what an experience. We will upload the video soon!
I might be a heretic saying this, but maple syrup might be the best syrup for southern chicken n waffles. Finding the combo might be the hard part.
Thanks for the recommendation, that sounds terrific! We will see if we can find someone with that combo. We might have to carry our own Maple syrup just in case.
Have you gone to Cafe Du Mond for beignets, if not you need to. The one near the street market.
We did try them! and New Orleans is a great food city! We would love to visit as many states as follows. We tried so many different things and will upload more videos soon. Please keep in touch!
Damn near everything is finger food here! Dig in and enjoy!
