But only a few can be a professional guitarist. It’s just a way to describe someone who does a hobby. So there really shouldn’t be much gate keeping beyond are they actually doing/learning the thing. What it doesn’t imply is if they are good or bad at said thing. I consider myself an artist but I’m not a good one. But I do enjoy drawing.

That’s an interesting point. I grew up studying music, but I also like the simplicity of drum machines and loops. This has become its own spectrum from drag & drop loops & samples to the other extreme of sitting with composition paper and a pen.
