  • Headed for a trip to Kyoto with Kids? Plan a half day at the Kyoto Railway Museum and let the kids run wild on the huge indoor and outdoor grounds exploring and learning about everything that falls under the topic of train travel and transportation.
Every kid has an obsession with trains - am I right? Well, almost every kid. The Kyoto Train Museum is where you can make turn their Thomas the Tank Engine dreams into reality and let them roam through old and new train carriages, take a peek inside the construction of a Shinkansen Bullet Train, become a train conductor, and even embark on a steam locomotive train ride.
Guys, this place is epic and by far one of the BIGGEST transportation museums we have been to anywhere in the world. It was one of our Kyoto highlights and a must-do when in Japan with kids.
You won't leave disappointed and a trip to Kyoto with kids will only be partially complete until you have visited the Kyoto Railway Museum.
Take a look inside and see what we were dealin' with!

As a big kid, I definitely don't need any kids to go play with trains! Love the fact you can play on controls and stuff!l The steam engine looks amazing!

It's always good when you find place you can keep the kids happy for a good part of the day. I just want to go to the restaurant they had with all the kids stuff. I'd love to be able to sit down for more than 2 minutes to eat a meal with out worrying about the kids too much. We've almost given up on proper restaurants with our boys. As much as I love them. They are a pain in the butt when ever we go out to eat.

I totally feel you. I think our boys are similarly aged and I can confirm that they are menaces at this age. Even more so in twos. We pretty much just buy takeaway and eat at home now. When we do take them out to eat, we find ourselves apologising profusely for their crazy antics aha.

Hahaha you know what? Not really. Not at all. I still don't know what the 'trainpit' where the driver sits is called. I really just went to eat the Udon noodles.

5:08 (kid pointing at )that is DE10-1156 a busy diesel locomotive that also has his own railway like C571. The DE10 goes to railway museum as his home that he shares with the steam locomotives

  • @naturespecialist1489
    @naturespecialist1489 3 года назад

C571 is the only fully operating steam locomotive that leaves the round house to run on the Yamaguchi line C56 160 used to but is doing a short line with C62 and 8630

What a great train museum. The working motor with the cut-out to see how the motor works is so cool. Did you guys win the lottery for the train simulator? The food looks so good for being at a museum. I like how this museum is so interactive!

Unfortunately we did miss out on it because we weren't aware of it. Hope this video will help others so they don't miss out on it. Rest of the museum was fantastic and your right about the food lol

4:27 8630 (8620 type) is a locomotive that can pull both freight and coaches. Thus being called a Mix Traffic Engine like James the red engine from Thomas 8630’s brothers pulled the swallow express. And this is old and wise looking engine as Edward plus 8630 has a old fashioned British Railway inspired design .

3:32 it’s actually the Train Driver drives the train. The conductor blows the whistle to tell the driver to depart

5:03 C571 and C56 160 ran there passenger trains. C571 leaves for the Yamguchi line in the summer and comes back during the fall mean while C56 160 ran his passenger train on the main line from Biwako station to Biwako lake however some times both engines swap jobs!!!!!

Awww, those kids waiting for the rail to go up were so adorable! I'm a huge museum hopper at every location I go to, though (since I'm not usually traveling with young ones) I tend to go for history of the location & modern art.

I am a semi-museum person while travelling. It depends where I am. Of course when I was in NYC I had to visit the natural history museum, MoMA, Guggenheim and the Met. They're all iconic.
I've been planning to go to the Kyoto Railway Museum even though I'm not a train otaku, I do really appreciate the older locomotives. The Evangelion Shinkansen was there too! We missed riding on it while it was in service.
