Hi! Great video, loved it! We are going to Japan for 2 months with our two kids (10 months and 3 years old). Our biggest concern was the pram friendliness, since some people said that the streets and stores were too crowded and/or too small, so they didn’t recommend a pram. But man… think about two months following the pace of a 3 year old, my gosh 😵💫 so we are thinking about buying a pram in Japan, adapted for the Japanese lifestyle, and it will be a double one where the older kid can sit or stay up behind the little one. Hopefully it will work to enjoy this amazing country with the kiddos!
The tokyo day railpass is also worth it 600 yen for a day if you are going everywhere its worth it 😀🙏, can ride on the metro,jr and one more line i think
Left my camera on the train one time in japan- turned up on the next station in shibuya - japan are filled w honest people 🙏😀😀 and nice people - can leave your bike anywhere no locks and no one takes it. Man all japans food are just so tasty 😋- i dont like tuna - but the tuna in japan are so fresh and smooth jn texture that even i like it there haha
Don't be too sure on the bike situation Nick, I know a couple of people who had their bikes stolen when I Iived there and I personally had two bike seats stolen, which was a complete crack up, because of course it was the day I was running late, so was riding in a suit from the train station to work, unable to sit down the whole way because I had no seat 😂🤣
@@nickandhelmi I could be wrong, but I remember being told years ago, that bicycle theft was one of the more common crimes in Japan, with something like 300,000 bicycles a year being stolen. But still, I could easily deal living in a country where my biggest fear of a crime was possibly losing my bike 😁
There is plenty of good information about Japan on YT, but I have to say your channel is up there with the best. You have thought of everything and I really appreciate your knowledge and fun delivery 👌👏
Totally agree with all of your points. Japanese people are very respectful and life is so much easier this way. Love going there and it's nice to be able to go somewhere and not have to think about safety while having a ton of food options and great transport infrastructure. Great video Tina! Also all the clips from Japan is making me miss Japan :(
hehehe we miss japan so much too! such an awesome country. I don't know what it's like in NZ but in Aus people can get rowdy really fast and not honest. Wish they could learn from the Japanese and don't make a big deal of things.

I‘m generally fine with waiting for dreams to come true but since I’m pregnant I’ve suddenly got the urge to book our first family holiday ASAP because it suddenly seems like it won’t happen otherwise. Awesome guide for travel in Japan with kids 👍 Really comprehensive. Going to totally link this in one of our videos from Japan when we finally get to them. Best country? That’s tough!! Hawaii is probably our favourite destination. But favourite country from travel I’d go with Argentina 🇦🇷 Backpacked there for over a month back in the day. It’s such a diverse country. This was before we had kids so maybe that helped too 🤣
Yeah I'm sure we'll be back eventually. Might be a few years down the track though. I would love to live there but the economy is in real trouble at the moment.

Thanks for watching! It depends on where and when you eat. I believe you would be able to find places to eat for your family especially in really popular areas. To make sure you all sit together, try to make eating arrangements before busy periods. eg. have early lunch and early dinner. Sometimes you can't help it, the worst would probably mean you would split up during peak meal time, but if it's not a busy place then you'll be ok. generally you'll be ok, just be flexible.
Amazing video!! Would love to know how you went getting to Japan and how you managed your babys sleep while you were there. We’re planning to go to Japan for 10 days in December when our baby will be 18 months old. Bit unsure on the flight over and how we’ll get him to have his daily nap.
Hi Hi, this brings back great memories of traveling with the little ones to Japan lol =) we had them sleeping in either the carrier or pram depending on the activity on the day. Flying/Traveling is different for every little one. From our experience we would suggest bringing their favourite things to help settle eg toys, blanky, etc. Most of the time they would get pretty tired from all the excitement of new things and heading out. What also really helped us on flights is try to get those front row baskets, or also see if that airline permits the seat sleepers like Jetkids or flytots. It is a learning experience for them and yourself but the more you do it the better it gets. Hope that helps.
I think Japan would be top of that list for us too, we have been multiple times and still want to keep going back, to the point where we have talked more than once about living there again.

Japan FTW. I agree with your JR railpass sum up. For us it was just going to be too expensive so we're getting a car for the whole durn trip next time - a bit over half the cost of the JR pass (for the same period).
That's a great idea, road trip through Japan. We were actually planning to visit more of the country side next time so driving a car is a great way to do it. 👍
no, my best friends brother had his money stolen there. the thief's even used his phone to get money from his grandmother, then said it didn't go through and got even more. always keep your items close.

I'm not sure what they are referring to but we can only talk of our experience. We use google maps ALL THE TIME! lol It has never failed us. Maybe they mean if you don't have internet access then google maps isn't going to help but I think you should get internet during your travels to help with google translate and looking up where to go or any info. I guess you can always try both methods when you get to Japan and see for yourself. Hope that helps ✌️🥳
What time are their peak hours though? Because it varies like in SG their peak could be from 5pm until 9 pm. Is that the same in Tokyo/ Kyoto/ Osaka? THanks :)
We found it to be between morning 7am - 9am and afternoon 5pm - 7pm. The afternoon time the trains can still be busy after 7 as i think a lot of them do overtime. But it is manageable and you will be able to move around. Same across the 3 major cities.
Cool tips, guys. Definitely regarding the JR Pass, you don't need one unless you're doing lots of Shinkansen travel. It's great you found people stop for you at pedestrian crossings. We never have anyone stop for us a zebra crossings. Good tips about the Matsuya and Yoshinoya for quick, cheap eats. I think Sukiya is the best of those three guidon stores though.
Hi, we are planning to go in end Aug 2019. I think I saw one of the videos where you cycled in Tokyo. Do you know if there are bike rentals that come with child seat? Our kids are 4yo and 6yo.
Hi and thanks for watching. We didn't cycle through Tokyo however it is quite easy to find on google maps and search. That's how we did it when we were in Nara and Kyoto. From what we observed, most of them have child seats but there is limited numbers, maybe you could contact them before you leave to reserve some. Hope that helps, have an awesome time when you go! Cycling is a great way to get around in Japan.
I see all these vlog of themed cafes but there are never kids. Infact I very rarely see kids in any of these videos unless specifically labeled as family vids

I think Kyoto was the only City were people were not as patient. Every other City was super friendly.
