Reviewing the Chaotic World of Total Drama Island 2023 Part 1 [SPOILERS]

The new Total Drama Island reboot made this technical debut earlier this week; it's been a while since we've returned to the island but even in 2023, there's still plenty of charm to be found. Between the BCC, Cartoon Network and Corus Entertainment, FreshTV has been tasked with bringing back the format after not using it for close to a decade. New contestants, new challenges, new vibe. @TheDanTheManShow and I liked it enough that we decided to give it some bars. That Dramarama special finna hit different after all of this, lol.
Good video, but I have to disagree with the Julia section. She did NOT have bigger plot armour than HEATHER, who was so sure that she will win a LUCK based immunity challenge that she was willing to throw her game completely out of the window just to create a conflict between Trent and Gwen, and lo and behold, she ended up winning said LUCK immunity challenge because the plot required that to happen. Then there are TWO eliminations after it where she didn't win immunity, but was kept in the game anyway for no explained reason, and the less we talk about how she ended up staying over Leshawna, the better. Heather is a great villain, but she had by far the biggest plot armour in the show's history, in the first season at the very least. Julia was different. She worked HARD to win the immunities that she did, kept on trying to form alliances with everyone who was left, tried to make other people look worse in hopes that they will go in case she doesn't win immunity. Not once did the plot make the characters do something really stupid just so she can stay. When she didn't win immunity, she stayed because the people who ended up leaving instead of her were far more disliked, Chase for example. The ONLY time she was really lucky was when Wayne and Raj got medically evacuated, but even that was nothing compared to how lucky Heather got so many times in season 1, and another difference is that when Wayne and Raj got medically evacuated, Julia knew that she will get voted off, but when similar things happened to Heather, she was confident that she will stay.
The MK elimination also made sense, considering that MK was already targeted by her team beforehand, so she wasn't exactly the most liked or trusted person in the team. She was not far behind Julia in terms of popularity, and Julia gave out good reasons for her teammates to keep her over MK.
Julia is trash though she shouldn't be winning challenges easy

@@skyco5395 MK was literally in the bottom 2 in episode 3 because of her snarky remarks, then in the next episode they pointed out after winning the challenge that she didn't help the team at all. Only Emma was on her side, but even that was likely lost after MK made yet another snarky remark about how Emma didn't stand up for her when the team was actually there with them. MK was liked more but not by THAT much, the previous episodes made that clear, and Julia gave out good reasons for the team to make them vote for MK instead. If MK was this social beast then I would understand why people had a problem with the votes, but that wasn't the case, MK herself even said that she didn't make any friends on the island and was happy that she didn't.

@@efogodo3013 Exactly, even though MK is one of my favorite characters, I can admit she had abysmal social game, just like another one of my favorite characters, Noah.
Can’t believe Caleb somehow managed to win every season of the show.

3:27 as an Italian, I can confirm that total drama had a big effect on Italy and basically every Italian who was born in the 2000s knows total drama. They also gave Italy the priority for Pahkitew Island (as well as the others you mentioned). Still wired as fuck that they decided to give Italy this odd priority
wait when did Julia have plot armor? 💀 aside from Wayne and Raj’s elimination ofc. she actually worked hard for her immunity unlike heather on s1 (she literally ate a tape worm just so she wouldn’t get booted) so her wins were deserved. i will admit tho her strategy was lacking and her confidence got the best of her

Considering I had a hard time thinking Total Drama could really work in this day and age, at least without major revamping - not to mention the red flags that were starting to pop up - I was quite pleasantly surprised with what I saw of this.
In particular, the comedic timing seemed significantly sharper than I'm used to seeing from this franchise and there overall felt like there was a lot of fresh blood at the helm here. It wasn't just continuing on as if Dramarama never happened, it used the extra time off to its advantage on some level. So even though I wouldn't consider it a must-watch or anything, it at least has my respect.
As much as I agree Ripper stayed a bit too long, I disagree that his eliminations made no sense. Besides episode 2 when he was chosen over AXEL, scary girl at least cost her team the challenge(and ripper would have easily lost the votes anyway 3:2 but useless deadweight Millie voted scary girl). Damien did convince his team to vote him off too.
Julias strategy was acting nice and chill but MK exposed her too early
Honestly, it was Julia's fault that she exploded that early. She could've easily stayed chill for longer in the game since the only person she knew for sure was in the game and had the footage of her yelling at the velociraptor.
I think this is one of the best seasons honestly
I have to say 2007 me would have never thought that there would be an openly gay character and a gay couple. There were "hints or jokes" during some seasons, but Im glad it was this was stablished the way it was.
I feel like Bowie and Julia make a great villain duo this season: Bowie is more the brains, getting far through strategy and manipulation, while Julia is more the brawns, getting far through ruthlessness and determination. As such, it makes sense to me that Julia wasn't much of a strategist. As well, I feel like she didn't recieve too much plot armor -- the only time being Raj and Wayne's elimination. Every other time she won, or there was somebody else more deserving of elimination.
I wish instead of Chris we had Don. We could have had jokes about how Chris isn’t there and we could get a chef don dynamic
Don is perfect for TDRR. Not the other way around. Chris makes Total Drama total drama.

@@simeon9962 I love this seasons Chris. It’s not as good as season 1-3 Chris but it is 100% better than S4-6.
I’ll take don Chris over TDPI Chris any day.

Julia did have a goog point over why MK deserved to get elliminated first. MK could have watched them all pooping for all they know.
Really enjoyed this reboot surprisingly, zee deserved better
I just started the video but, being a Canadian and growing up with TD and watching it on cable, it's crazy seeing Canadian shows getting such a reach since Canadian tv gets ripped on all the time.
I think the show hinted that the reason for Ripen staying as long as he did was Millie so that she could write her book about how stupid he is.
Ripper should be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine.

The only thing revenge has over reboot is the opening
I've seen some theories that next season, Axel would try to train Nichelle into a better contestant, and I really hope that happens because I would love to see their dynamic with eachother
This show is way better than the later seasons but how is the island there.
