It’s more fun to drive a slow car fast then a fast car slow. Not that the ST appears slow but it seems from your review the ST isn’t over powered to actually use on public roads, I think people can be tricked into thinking something like a high powered Mustang would be more fun to own but actually requires a racetrack to use its potential. Long live the hot hatch, practical, efficient and fun!
Indeed. I drove an AMG A45 and Mk4 Focus ST back to back and while the AMG was noticeably faster and very nice, the ST was more fun and frankly a better, more engaging driving experience. I want the ST
Have now got one the same colour. I came from a Honda Civic FK2 Type R which I owned for 6 1/2 years and really loved but am now starting to love the ST as much as the Honda. I love your video's keep up the good work.
I have to comment. Can't remember if I did or didn't watch your video before taking delivery of mine mid 2020, same colour spec etc. What you say is so totally spot on, given my now near three year ownership. Fabulous car in every respect and ridiculously capable. I put a black maxton bodykit on mine to balance off with the black pan roof and the Mountune M330 remap. 330PS 515NM.
Got the new fiesta ST and I’ve done two 250 mile journeys basically back to back and the seats were fine, no numb bum! They look the same as the seats in the fiesta. The focus looks ace
I’ve had the Mk8 Fiesta ST which I kept for 9 months and got rid of it due to the shocking build quality. I swapped it for the Mk4 Focus ST. The Focus is day and night better when it comes to build quality. But the Fiesta was a hoot to drive if you could put up with the rattles! The seats although they look the same are much better on the Focus.
Very well presented. A natural stand in for Top Gear I’d say. Love the ST and had previous models and this could be coming next. Far more for your money than the Germans.
I have a,ways had a soft spot for Ford and owned many over the years. My most recent experience was a Focus Titainium X 1.0l rental car is Belfast. I was most impressed and wanted to buy it...a car with not much image but a lot of real depth...even the engine was good and felt like a 1.6. I also favour buying one from a small, local dealer with a Boss, a salesman called Brian and a mechanic named Colin...all serving the community well for decades..a dream but it makes me think of our Ford Populars from 1957...965 AHT and 631 AHW...long lost of course! Ford...the best BMW in the real world!! Happy motoring Pete!😎😎😎
The price is insane. Ford have always been known for supplying affordable performance cars for the masses but they I could never justify paying north of 30k for that.
Like I said in another comment, this is the most heinous example of Ford's fictive list prices. I got an offer back from my dealer for a fully specced (minus sunroof) for 30.5k EUR, when the list price for that would have been something like 37k. Not sure why Ford always do this. Basically if you're buying anything else than their more exclusive cars (like the Focus RS or Mustang Bullitt) you're almost guaranteed to get a large discount.
@db Tech I've noticed this as well, at least in the mainstream segment. Manufacturers probably figured that if so many people are willing to overpay for a Golf (the Golf price last generation was pretty jacked up) they're willing to do it for its competitors too. Other manufacturers ike Mazda and Hyundai are competing brutally through price and it's the reason they're successful.
In 2013, I almost bought a demonstrator Focus Titanium. But the missus didn't like the seats, so I went for a 2nd hand BMW 330d coupe. However Ford have always had good drivers cars. I like the way Petrol Pooch gets onto "Daddys lap" before Petrol Pup even realises what's happening :-))... Great video Pete.
I picked up my brand new ST this week. It's excellent. It sounds good and drives beautifully. I've had several Fords including an Escort Mexico, Escort RS2000 and two other Focus STs, and this is the best car I've ever had. The drive modes are great fun and I'm looking forward to learning the other new bells and whistles. And there are some good deals around at the moment. Oh, and the performance pack is only an additional £250 so it's a no-brainer.
Petrol Ped ... I was a little concerned when I bought it as the recaros in my wife’s Mk7 ST200 left you broken after a long journey. But these are much much better.
Great vid mate had the same car for 8 week now and love it.Paid 30.000 for mine so there are discounts to be had.0-60 is officially 5.7 seconds and 276 HP it’s pretty awesome
Interesting to note that the Mk3 Focus RS was less than £30k for the first UK orders. And at the end of production I don't think the price breached £33k. So the ST does seem expensive but is packed with a lot of new technology. This ST may be the last high performance petrol only Ford hot hatch.
It would be great if someone put up a map of all the legal, most challenging roads. My favourite is the Bury St Edmunds to Hadleigh road, through beautiful Lavenham.
Just ordered a brand new one of these in performance blue to go alongside my cherished R53 Mini Cooper S. Got a great deal with extras included so couldn’t resist. Ticks all the boxes for me as it’s fully loaded, practical and much less common on the road than Golf Gti’s / R’s. Got a lower finance rate and better deal than I would have done buying a used one so no brainer in my mind. Didn’t spec the pan roof though as thought it was pretty pricey and wanted to keep monthly payments under £300... is this something I may regret or not be bothered about?😬
Its certainly a good looker.. handles well, wish Ford would make interior a bit different to my transit connect!! And don't be too hasty righting off the diesel version.. bags of mid range grunt.. great vid guys xx
leon taylor + a plug and play re-map from tdi-tuning for a couple hundred quid would make the diesel version very close on performance...it might be tempting and not completely unrealistic to try and get the diesel estate of this as a company car although I’d probably regret it when I see the tax deductions on pay slip!
Questions .... Did the infotainment system really take that long to load up? Is the noise real - doesn't sound it on camera? Biggest problem with the old Focus was the high seating position - looks nice and low now ?
I’ve had sync3 for 3 years now and never never felt it took that long to load, I guess i got used to it but also it’s so easy to use I just drive off and then think about what I’m listening to, but in my opinion it’s better set in night mode all the time which you can do in settings because the standard view is so bright, also in last generation there is the pump leaver on drivers seat that drops it pretty low... wish the old st150 did too! That’s got to be the highest seat in a hot hatch!
1. Didn't really feel like it took long 2. The pops on upshift were definitely external. Hard to capture sound on camera 3. Seating position was excellent. Felt low enough 👍
New mk8 Fiesta ST sounds better actually but that piston deactivation sounds a little bit dodgy... I'm sure it will cause carbon build up or something down the track...
I think they only pump sound to make the engine sound louder instead of doing some silly V8 sound like in the Mustang Ecoboost. It's still iffy to me but better than faking the shit out of it like some other cars do.
@@Lee1188UK that's more due to customer demand, because people find it weird that CVTs don't change gears. Can't really blame the manufacturer in this case imo.

The Focus ST just trumps the Megane RS for the best hot hatch design in my opinion , & would be a better daily driver with a slightly more compliant ride , a great all rounder especially eye-catching in blue although rivals offer better 0 - 60 times , as you say , it's the mid-range torque that is more important for overtaking. Great to see your channel go from strength to strength , it is so well deserved , you'll be at 50,000 subscribers before you know it !.

Got one in magnetic (colour) and it is superb! absolutely love driving it and I think in the 5 months I've had it I've only used the race mode once even so in sport and 99% of the time it's in normal mode it is still a brilliant car to drive the few little problems I've had with it is a new headlight (one of the mounting points cracked🤷♂️) and one of the censors on the cat failed! I'm getting good mpg aswell......definitely the best car I've had to date👍
Thanks for your video! I have a 2014 Fiesta ST and bought it brand new at the start of 2015. I was going to buy a mk3 focus rs but I'm very glad it didn't. Ford did a really bad job with that last rs IMO. It's awesome yes but then again it's not at the same time. Like he says in the video, that new ST is faster than the mk3 rs. Seems like the mk3 rs should have had 400hp instead of a pissy 345hp.
Nice looking car. Hopefully it will prove to be reliable as well. It's no fun owning a car that spends more time in the dealerships garage than in yours.
Good to see a car come with quality rubber fitted as standard...so many big brands seem to skimp these days with 2nd division tyres and it really does baffle me why they would do it...accountants taking over I suspect, but well done Ford!
The new ST looks nice on the outside, but I still prefer my 2006 electric orange ST , five cylinder engine ,real pops and bangs , and still very quick and still totally standard .To me there’s just something about old school fast fords .
I'm crying here in the States because I have a 2016 Focus RS and Ford doesn't sell the new gen Focus ST/RS anymore! I would trade my car in for the new gen RS in a nano second!
Looks like a great car for the B roads! I don’t know why Ford have done the same as Hyundai and just stuck an iPad on the dashboard rather than integrating the screen into the dash like VW and BMW do. That’d really annoy me! Great video as per usual 😁
Totally agree with you 100%. Ford, you should be ashamed of yourself for skimping on this and just sticking a piece of touchscreen plastic in place. At least motorise it to fold away if you didn’t want to look at it. The rest of the car is nice but his is a BiG put off.
@@acward2007 many manufacturers are doing it, including premium ones. I wouldn't call it 'skimping' but I admit I don't like it either. Although I don't like it the way VW do it like OP said either. It's way too far down, it feels almost dangerous taking your eyes off the road like that. The way BMW do it is great, it's a tablet but it's better integrated.
@S I do see where you are coming from with this and it is becoming a trend. I know Mercedes are doing this and given people preference seems to be touchscreens it must just be me. I don’t find them very positive and prefer other controls. Aesthetically they don’t look great when sticking up like that to me is the main pet hate.
I've owned all the ST versions 1-4 gotta say this is my favourite, nicer to drive and to look at though you're right I regret not getting the pan roof, though in my defence I didn't actually know it had the option. I did want the RS version but even a decent second hand 1 3-4 years old is still almost the price of this brand new ST.
I’ve got the mk3.5 and will be sticking with it , your right about the exhaust that’s the only thing i don’t like about it Has for the mk 4 the only thing I like is the rear view , the rest I don’t like and also the price
Another good review here Petrol! This is a lovely colour, Ford certainly bring some nice colours out. I like the shape of this I was never a fan of the previous model ST. I'm hoping they do an RS version.
Another fantastic review, I've owned cars for a very long time and my favourite was my 2014 Focus ST. I loved that car and made a mistake by going for a Kuga next, lovely though it was. In some ways a better car but nowhere near as much fun.. I think I should go back to some sort of ST (Puma or Focus) before the world is full of electric cars.. I have some choices to make I feel!
Too bad. Track mode turns off the limited slip for the track. If you'd have hit it hard in sport the elect. Limited slip would have blown your mind I believe. I had one and I want. Another or a st focus. Always liked smaller cars although I'm 6' tall lol
Nice looking motor but that 0-60 test was sloooow for a car with that bhp! But agree the real test is the mid range punch unless you’re a traffic light warrior 😆
It’s the same design Mini use. I think it will be something to do with the angle of the windscreen glass means you need a different piece of glass to reflect to HUD image 🤔
Good review Sir. Keep 'em coming. I have a Mk3 Focus RS so was interested in this as a preview of what might be coming from Ford MK4 wise. Those seats look almost identical to the Mk3 RS/ST steats. If they are, they are very comfortable. My longest stint is 717 miles (with stops for fuel - its an RS!). back side and back felt good.
I am a fan of good handling cars with exploitable power levels. Looks like Ford have turned out another winner. It's a bit of a looker as well. With a nicer quality interior it would of been on my short list.
Two questions for anyone who knows. . Is engine noise pumped through speakers at same time as music, thus ruining any other tunes? Can the engine noise through speakers feature be turned off? Cheers
@@PetrolPed I have a 2019 fiesta St, and at times the size is really a huge downfall, but I wouldn't want the same or older model focus. I want this focus and I hope ford brings back the focus, specially the St, next year, that would be awesome! I love the styling on this model, it's such an upgrade.
I want Ford to launch this Focus ST in the USA. I mean, c'mon, it will sell a lot of cars here, it's such a great hatchback! It's an American company yet we can't get its best products here, what's with that?
Drove one just under 2ooo miles mile recently to Denmark and back a week later. Seats are fine, took 16hrs there because of traffic, just stopping for fuel.No backache. Powers great ,though it isnt happy doing 120 plus for hrs at a time, way too noisy for that type of run. The fake pops and bangs get annoying as well. I reckon a good car for the UK but no long-distance car. My 3 litre Diesel E class is faster, comfier and gets better mpg and can hold 100 plus mph way better. Im 55 but used to cars witha bit of go all my life and still like some horses under my right foot, this handles very well on UK B roads,my mate, whos car it is,also 55 says he wont get another but glad he tried one. MPG drops through the floor when you poke it,not Subaru 18mpg but not good.
@@stevemk4st649 Yeh because all focus ST cars have never driven more than 7 0. Its a nice car and no it doesnt matter inthe Uk what its like at 100plus thats why I said so.
Looks better and will be an improvement on the previous model with the new tech but have ford gotten over the issues of the last few years? For me in that price bracket there is alot of competition and if you don't need the practicality but want a driver's car the fiesta would probably be a better option as usual.
@@garystratton8731 The Renault has the best styling IMO and deals with the power the best. Civic has the best gearbox but the Renault comes close. the i30N sounds the best but has terrible axel tramp which would rule it out for me. Not sure I could live with the Type Rs styling much as I love it !

Very nice mate. Great cars 👍
The mk2 st is still the legend
Thanks for your video!
I have a 2014 Fiesta ST and bought it brand new at the start of 2015. I was going to buy a mk3 focus rs but I'm very glad it didn't. Ford did a really bad job with that last rs IMO. It's awesome yes but then again it's not at the same time. Like he says in the video, that new ST is faster than the mk3 rs. Seems like the mk3 rs should have had 400hp instead of a pissy 345hp.
Old Henry would be proud
He would, but he would probably want it in black 😂
Henry ford was a nazi
Dream car.. UK focus st in america.
Like the new focus st very much, just a shame ya cant get 3 doors anymore. So much better looking in my view.
I've just bought one today 😀 and subbed!
Congrats and thanks for the sub 👍
Nice looking car. Hopefully it will prove to be reliable as well. It's no fun owning a car that spends more time in the dealerships garage than in yours.
Excellent presentation. Will be ordering the ST. Love everything about this car love colour too
Thanks 🙏🏻
Good to see a car come with quality rubber fitted as standard...so many big brands seem to skimp these days with 2nd division tyres and it really does baffle me why they would do it...accountants taking over I suspect, but well done Ford!
Mega boots 👍
Hyundai i30 N performance top top top
This is better to drive 👍
Petrol Ped how you can improve that 🤔
Wiĺ you be doing the focus st facelift?
The new ST looks nice on the outside, but I still prefer my 2006 electric orange ST , five cylinder engine ,real pops and bangs , and still very quick and still totally standard .To me there’s just something about old school fast fords .
That five pot was my favourite too 👌
I'm crying here in the States because I have a 2016 Focus RS and Ford doesn't sell the new gen Focus ST/RS anymore! I would trade my car in for the new gen RS in a nano second!
Still don't get why so many cars are available in the US 😪
@@PetrolPed Cos they're obsessed with SUVs, or rather the car companies are.
Missing this in the states , my 2013 will have to do 😪😪
Another car you guys don’t get 😥
Looks like a great car for the B roads! I don’t know why Ford have done the same as Hyundai and just stuck an iPad on the dashboard rather than integrating the screen into the dash like VW and BMW do. That’d really annoy me! Great video as per usual 😁
One of my pet hates 😂
Totally agree with you 100%. Ford, you should be ashamed of yourself for skimping on this and just sticking a piece of touchscreen plastic in place. At least motorise it to fold away if you didn’t want to look at it. The rest of the car is nice but his is a BiG put off.
One of my pet hates along with electronic hand brake nonsense!
I’ve got the mk3.5 and will be sticking with it , your right about the exhaust that’s the only thing i don’t like about it
Has for the mk 4 the only thing I like is the rear view , the rest I don’t like and also the price
I hated the stupid blobby melted tail lights on my Mk3.5 🤦♂️
Remove the resonator it makes a difference
Another good review here Petrol! This is a lovely colour, Ford certainly bring some nice colours out. I like the shape of this I was never a fan of the previous model ST. I'm hoping they do an RS version.
I'm sure they will and it will be epic 👍
another great review, great stuff man!
Cheers Edward 👍
Very slippy road surface and too much wheel spin 😂
I’ve done it in 5.4 in the dry and with the 330bhp Dreamscience map on. Plus you have to flat shift which saves tenths.
Whitch the best car in your opinion ? Your Charly Clubman or this Focus ST?
I’m bias. Charlie is perhaps the best all round car I’ve owned 👍
@@PetrolPed Thanks for your answer, so I 'll probably buy one of the last Clubman JCW.
It looks like Ford have made a big jump forward in their interiors, both the Focus you tested here, and the Fiesta you tested sometime ago.
Yep getting much better. Still behind Audi and BMW though 😥
Except ridiculously behind the curve without a digital dash.
What's with pop up glass HUD? Just looks like it will gather dust. Why not onto the screen I dont understand the hud design with the glass.
It’s the same design Mini use. I think it will be something to do with the angle of the windscreen glass means you need a different piece of glass to reflect to HUD image 🤔
@@PetrolPed yes your quite possibly right. Quite steep on this and the mini. I just think it makes the HUD look like a bit of an afterthought
Can’t wait to see what the RS will be like 😬
Just wish you could spec the auto gearbox on the petrol version. That colour though, it’s impressive
Steve Frampton can get same engine and an auto in a mustang 👍🏻
Steve Frampton The auto version will be out early next year.
The manual is really very good 👍
Yep 👍
Awesome review. Cheers mate.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
orange looks good
Yep 👍
I am a fan of good handling cars with exploitable power levels. Looks like Ford have turned out another winner. It's a bit of a looker as well. With a nicer quality interior it would of been on my short list.
It drives so well 👍
Great to see you got the Mk4 Focus ST on the channel 👍
Great review too .... I’m getting more and more tempted to change my Mk3.5 ST estate for one 🤔
Glenn Church just traded my 2017 ST for one, arrives next week 😉
Go have a test drive and I reckon it would be a done deal 😜
Great review Squire, somewhat behind in your videos just now, catch-up required. All the best Pete.
Thanks Darren 👍
Two questions for anyone who knows. . Is engine noise pumped through speakers at same time as music, thus ruining any other tunes? Can the engine noise through speakers feature be turned off? Cheers
The pops are certainly external 👍
@diamus100 thanks very much for the answer
Awesome review sir! The car kind of looks like a Volvo and a Audi had a love child. But it looks good
LOL 😂
Evening all!
SM 35 !!!!!
Petrol Ped Nice! I like that!
Great location , great dogs and car👍👍
Thank you 🙏🏻
That's bad ass, wish it were available in the US
Yet another car you guys don't get 😪
@@PetrolPed I have a 2019 fiesta St, and at times the size is really a huge downfall, but I wouldn't want the same or older model focus. I want this focus and I hope ford brings back the focus, specially the St, next year, that would be awesome! I love the styling on this model, it's such an upgrade.
Hello driver. Like I’ve said, that colour is punching. Looks a nice lil poker prod.
Dude 😜
Car looks and sounds fantastic, beautiful dogs too
Thanks 🙏🏻
Dr House is doing reviews :)
Great video Pete , ... !! Good car ,
I played BOTB for a short time , Now i will buy a ticket as you mention it ,,,
Good luck 👍
@@PetrolPed Thanks Pete , I went for the Tesla Model 3 Performance and the Megane RS, We'll do a race off if i win !!
What are your thoughts on this vs the i30 n fastback
Oh, tough one. For overall driving feel and dynamics I'd have the Focus. The i30N Fastback is a pretty looking car though 👍
I want Ford to launch this Focus ST in the USA. I mean, c'mon, it will sell a lot of cars here, it's such a great hatchback! It's an American company yet we can't get its best products here, what's with that?
Never understand why you guys don't get certain cars we do like this one 😕
Cars like these are under appreciated in the US market don't last long in the hands of buyers before switching to an SUV...
Very pleased with my diesel version.
I am sure it's mega 👍
Thanks for this. Very interesting 👍
100 plus.....speed limit 70 in the UK so that doesn't matter
@@stevemk4st649 Yeh because all focus ST cars have never driven more than 7 0. Its a nice car and no it doesnt matter inthe Uk what its like at 100plus thats why I said so.
I’ll take the golf gti any day
Enjoyed the review!
If you fancy having a go in my 300bhp F56 JCW hatch let me know. Not for video review, just for a laugh 😂
Thanks for the offer 👍
i just like the look, and the color... :D
Great colour 👌
Looks better and will be an improvement on the previous model with the new tech but have ford gotten over the issues of the last few years? For me in that price bracket there is alot of competition and if you don't need the practicality but want a driver's car the fiesta would probably be a better option as usual.
The Fiesta ST is very good but this is an even better drive 👍
Does it have an open deck engine block like the RS? If so then it's another ticking time bomb engine.
it has the 2.3L RS engine, detuned.
@@Mogsy28uk Yeah the Ford open deck ST/RS engines are ticking time bombs where they blow their head gaskets. Look it up.
@@Netlogic. that was the original engines, they have sorted it out with the newer engines
Sadly there is no turbo, oil temperature gauges as on the previous Focus ST....
A missing touch 😪
They are there, the dials are on the dash screen. Which is good when you have the HUD.
Yes they are on the performance settings on the dash either as a number or a dial but still miss the cluster of 3 on the top
Hi which do you prefer this ST, i30N or Renault Trophy 300?
Renault by some way 👍
@@PetrolPed really? That's shocked me. Could I like with the Trophy every day? What about if I throw Civic Type R in to mix against Renault Trophy. ?
@@garystratton8731 The Renault has the best styling IMO and deals with the power the best. Civic has the best gearbox but the Renault comes close. the i30N sounds the best but has terrible axel tramp which would rule it out for me. Not sure I could live with the Type Rs styling much as I love it !
@@PetrolPed thanks. It's tough deciding with the new hot hatches. The Trophy looks stunning but never had a Renault and the reliability worries me. The Civic also has issues with gearbox believe it or not. I drove one and it had gearbox grind. The Megane looks nice but will I be able to live with it daily without adaptable dampers? Think the Golf R is best all round but people say they are boring. I live the I30N but worry it's a bit slow?
Fantastic review, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
You say that you love a manual gear box so why not choose an ST over your JCW Mini I haven't looked to see if there's much difference in price & the Mini is not exactly small!
I’d actually be more tempted with the Megane RS 300 Trophy 👍
Enjoyed this review but…”foot pounds”? Does anyone know what that even is? Torque is measured in Nm, no?
It’s measured in both and quoted by manufacturers in both. The US market works in imperial 👍
