I just bought 2024 platinum version and it is INCREDIBLE! We test drove the telluride, atlas, pilot & highlander, and the pathfinder absolutely blew them away. Perfect mix of space, technology, safety & comfort. I was shocked, we hadn’t even planned to test drive one!!!
Agreed! He is wrong here. The pathfinder is a phenomenal vehicle. I bought the platinum after testing the telluride and palisade. BOTH the Kia and the Hyundai have reliability issues, the seats degrade and the seats stiffen over time. The telluride has slightly more space but the pathfinder is bigger than most in its class including the palisade. The interior refinement is phenomenal and it rides like a dream. He’s wrong to not recommend.
I just purchased a lightly used '24 Pathfinder Platinum and agree with virtually all of your comments both pros and cons. The key reason why I chose this over the competitors is headroom and seat comfort. At 6'-6" finding vehicles in which I'm truly comfortable is a challenge. The Pathfinder fits me well: I have several inches of clearance above my head, the seat bottoms are sufficiently long and provided good under thigh support and visibility is excellent- I don't have to stop five yards before a traffic signal so that I can see the light or constantly duck to see around the rear-view mirror when looking to the right. While I haven't experienced or noticed the rocking suspension you mention, I will say that it is a bit harsh, almost truck going over rough roads. And I do agree with your daughter that they need a better midpoint stop on the door hinge as it does tend to swing closed. I will say though that all doors close with a satisfying, solid thump and so far anyway I've not heard a single squeak or rattle. As for the tech, I think it all works fine although the dash layout does seem to be a bit dated or at least not as elegant as some competitors. I like the head up display and the semi-autonomous driving and appreciate all of the buttons and knobs for key functions-radio, HVAC, cameras. Other brands, especially the Korean cousins offer more bells and whistles but I would argue that the Pathfinder Platinum gives you practical tech that you will use regularly, I find the engine and transmission to be well matched. I like the sound of the engine and think it shifts smoothly although it is quick to up-shift and slow to downshift as you mention. I do find the power to be totally acceptable. And finally I agree that it's one of the best looking midsize SUV's out there.
Wife and I concluded this is the one for us. We loved the test drive. As far as the doors closing on their own, I feel the opposite is true as far as refinement, it’s an extra refinement touch.
I disagree on the refinement part. I own a VW GTI and the sound isolation on the pathfinder is on par with the germans. The doors aren’t as solid but very close. For comparison I test drove the Highlander on the highway and you could hear the road and the other cars, so Nissan has the advantage here. Also, I don’t care how many tech and features a Kia or Hyundai has, they cut corners on the mechanical area, and they will rarely honor the warranty. The Pilot was a close second for me, but couldn’t justify the higher price for the same features the Nissan has
Offroad modes were a massive life saver for me during a blizzard up here in Canada with my 2022 pathfinder. I might not go off road but the advanced AWD is good when it counts. I would have liked a locked differential option though when they have so many modes already. Ended up getting it because moving back to the US and Nissan said their warranty works across NA. Plus it was $56000 CAD for us with today's prices that's $43,100 USD. That was a steal for the platinum model. Had the car for 12 months 1000% recommend if you get it at a reasonable price. This channel didn't even mention the 6000lb towing. It's really an excellent family vehicle and it's not too big as to make it difficult to park if you live in a large city.
Excellent points! After some initial depreciation, this thing could become an incredible value (with a solid warranty to back it up), and at that point many of the small negatives would be acceptable. Thanks for watching!

Kia and Buick over Nissan? That is crazy. Check the reliability stats. ZF transmissions are the best. I do my research and don't want any turbo. I wanted superior towing because you never know. Family of 4 but you never know when extra friends come. I keep cars for over 10 years and it is easy to spend a bit more for the Platinum when you amortize the difference that long. These are probably selling for less due to the CVTs of the past. I have been looking at 2024s with less than 10,000 miles and getting a huge discount over new.

I think a 6,000 lb towing capability (+1,000 versus Telluride) is a notable and compelling for those that desire it. It really puts you in a different class of trailer and closer to mid-size trucks.
@jax1079 Although they ceded that market when they went to CVT, that doesn't mean those people dont exist. But now they have ZF9 and a trim level dedicated to buyers that it would matter, the Rock Creek, which competes with Telluride X-pro. Nissan beats it in tow and cargo carrying capacity. I think you may be surprised at the number of people who might now look at Pathfinder instead of mid-size pickup. Nissan seems to be betting on it. Otherwise, why go to the effort? Same for Kia and others. Im good with it because choice and competition are good for consumers.
Just bought the 2024 Rock Creek edition. Coming from driving an X-Terra and a few Wranglers and lastly a Challenger, I will say I feel like I’m driving a luxury vehicle. I won’t be rock crawling with it, but I’m comfortable with the slightly higher clearance and handling so far in comparison to the Wrangler. I think some mild off roading can be achieved and has plenty of power. The Wrangler has half the features even in the Rubicon class. I’m happy with the purchase.
Still find it the best in it's segment. Also didn't see exactly the flaws you mentioned when I test drive it. Transmission is very good and very responsive. The car in total is very responsive in all it's features. Well.. maybe there is something in your car you need to look into it carefully
There are many positives, but it’s not the best in the segment: the Kia Telluride is still tops with the Hyundai Palisade a close second. After that, there are pros and cons between several models, but those two are still noticeably superior.

Having owned the "jellybean" for the last 8 years, I'm really eyeing the 2023 model. compared to some of the competition, I feel like I can get it at a reasonable price, based on my research so far (The Palisade is currently STILL selling for slightly over MSRP)... All in all, I really like Nissan's design choices; I've always felt that Nissan has been pretty progressive with design style, ever since I bought my 2007 Altima SL (later upgraded to a 2019 model after 14 years of really dependable performance from that 2007 model!), LOVE that they've moved away from the CVT, and most importantly, the wife loves the first impression so far. Yes, it's a little disappointing that the vehicle is mechanically not too much different from the previous generation, but technology wise, I have a pretty good idea of what the experience will be like; after all, I love the tech in my 2019 Altima. ONe thing I'm a little disappointed in is that the Platinum model forces you to accept the captain's chairs in the 2nd row. It would be nice if you could choose your interior seating. Even in the SL, if you want the Premium sound system, you get the Captain's chairs crammed down your throat as part of that "Premium Upgrade" package - maybe it's something they'll address for 2024, but I have a feeling I'll be buying before that. With young kids and their friends, the seating for 8 has been invaluable! As such, I'll be shopping around for available SL models with the bench seating (which is probably why as of this writing, the SL model is the most popular, while Platinum models are just sitting on the lot at EVERY dealer in my area).. Thanks for your pretty thorough review!
We purchased an SL/premium last fall and love it so far. The drive by wire shifter gets a little getting used to but it seem to be the trend these days
I had my 2022 SL premium for over a year now and one thing i noticed with the transmission is that it always tries to stay in the highest gear possible. Even when u try to accelerate it will go but it still tries to go while attempting to hold the highest gear possible. However, drop it into sport mode and things change dramatically. Response and downshifts happens practically on the fly. A slight touch on the gas pedal and it already downshifts and is ready to go. And when it goes and hits the high end, it really pulls. I’m very happy with mines. I drive in sport or auto mode most of the time 😅😅😅
I have a 2023 platinum with the same color interior. This is roughly my seventh Nissan and I have never had an issue with any of them. I traded in my Lexus NX350 and I initially thought I had made a big mistake, but I was wrong. I do miss my huge screen in my Lexus and the Nissan should have a larger screen for the size of the vehicle but it's OK. The only thing I would change is make android wireless too. Why they didn't is beyond me. Anyone who is thinking of buying one I don't think will regret it.
Nice! I think the Pathfinder is a bit underrated. It’s a great all around family suv that you can get for a more reasonable price than the Telluride or Pilot. The Rock Creek edition is especially nice.
@@jax1079 Agreed! The dealer only had one rock creek but it didn't have a sunroof which is a deal breaker for me. I watched a trusted review ref the Palisades. He said it was loud, beautiful interior but in the end, it still had a hyundai engine. I've never had a hyundai to confirm, but it makes me wonder if the people that have one now will still love them in five years? Time will tell. Thanks for your review of the pathfinder! I hope more people will give it another look.
I have mine 4WD and I enjoy every aspect because I fell like a balance between a comfortable mid size “SUV” x 3-row family when needed and a “truck” tough rugged look and performance up on the heels to “find my off road path”. This a mutant car for whoever needs all combined. Great content and solid review but just to add some note here… is not a luxury vehicle whatsoever and a Buick can’t be compared but Nissan was very successful on this project and the specific customers realized that! And looks good man! I agree with you!
Glad to hear you like it! There are certainly a lot of positive virtues that I don’t think many people realize stack up favorably against the competition. Plus it’s good looking. 😉 Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻
I have the 2022 Platinum Pathfinder and the one thing that I absolutely hate about it is the auto stop/start feature. I wish that when I turn it off that is stays off. Each time I get in the car I have to turn it back off. I'd rather the car stay idling when i stop then have my starter go bad over the years of use. I thought that when I bought it I would just get use to it... but it drives me absolutely crazy enough to want to find a vehicle where i can keep it off.
We drove the Pathinder perhaps more than you did and did not observe the negatives you talked about. The car has some negatives like no lock on the fuel door, not the best auto pilot, no lane keeper unless the cruise is on, and is a gas guzzler but for $41,800 for a 4WD SL there are NO better alternatives IMO.
It’s a great value for sure. Maybe I need to try the Rock Creek edition which I heard sorts out some of my suspension complaints. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻
I had the same issues with the transmission but my dealership pushed a software update a couple weeks ago and the transmission shift’s amazing now.. it also shut up the sonar sound at startup which was super annoying.
From owning Nissans since 2012 I can tell you their transmissions are programmed to get to overdrive as fast as possible and stay there as long as possible. But you get use to it .
"One of them is telling me to stop because it's embarrassing here... it's that one, IT'S THAT ONE!" 🤣😂🤣😅 that's such a Dad move... I do the same with my 8yo daughter
I actually took it for a drive today and I didn’t see any of those issues with the transmission or any rocking, very strange reviews🤥😅but I appreciate your time
No problem! Some people may or may not notice the same, but having transitioned from the Buick Enclave to this, the Enclave had the superior ride and transmission behavior for sure. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Awesome! How would you rank the ride seat comfort for tall guys like us? Also, have you tried the S/SV seats with cloth material, not leather/lower than SL trims?@@jax1079
Reliability is a bit academic at this point since most cars and trucks are fairly reliable. The new Pilot does look good, but you might be able to score a better deal on the Pathfinder and get more features and content for a little less money. Best of luck, and thanks for watching!
Hi JAX, did you find that the Pathfinder let in a lot of wind noise when cruising down the highway? In your opinion, which is overall quieter, smoother more comfortable SUV, the Pathfinder or Telluride? Thanks for your time! 👍🏼
Telluride all around, but I would consider a few things: 1. The Pathfinder is solid and might be priced more aggressively, so the money saved makes up for minor shortcomings. 2. Haven’t tested it yet, but the new Honda Pilot looks very good. 3. If space is a priority and you have time to wait, the upcoming Grand Highlander looks VERY interesting and comes with both Toyota’s excellent hybrid system or powerful hybrid MAX powertrains.
Love the Pathfinder but I have few gripes: the gas tank is kind of small. Wish Nissan had upgraded the fuel tank to a 24gal. Second, wish they made a turbo version, it feel kind of sluggish and last, is there aren't a lot of aftermarket support for it. I wish they made a lift kit for it to make it look more rugged. A bit higher than the Rock Creek.
No much talk about Towining? which suv in this class you recommend ? Pulling 6000 lbs on weekends Boat looking for something that has nice ride and quiet on Hiways
Unfortunately, 6000 pounds is just above the usable threshold for most of these style of SUVs. I wouldn’t recommend it. You’d need a light truck or truck based SUV such as the Tahoe, Expedition, or Sequoia.
Did you take the Buick on the roads outside of Atlanta? Nope. You drove on bad roads and then tried to say it's the pathfinders fault it moved side to side. Take the Buick on bad roads and compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges. Thanks. Have a great day.
It turns back on every time you start the car. Super annoying, especially since it's not a particularly good implementation, and in my experience, the savings is gas is super negligible.
I wondered about the ZF transmission. It takes a second to find the right gear if you're in one of the higher gears. The Honda/Acura 10 speed likes to "hunt" too, but they say it's a lot quicker than the 9 speed. It might depend on the drive mode you are in, IDK. I find it wild that the lane keeping assist will shift it faster. Do I go with Nissan and have to roll in for a software update or wait on the next Passport in '24? It's slated to obtain the new drivetrain under the Pilot.
Recently rode around in a Rock Creek edition and it felt a little more responsive and buttoned down, which solves my major issues. I’ll reserve opinion on the new Pilot/Passport until I test one, but I’m a big fan of the Passport’s form factor.
That’s tough because the Pathfinder is slightly larger and better in some respects, but my kids are older and I don’t need to haul as much stuff on vacations these days. I’d go Kia Sorento plug in hybrid and get the best of all worlds, myself.
I just bought a 2024 Platinum and disagree with you. Kia vehicles are not known for holding their value, have very questionable long term reliability, and are a kind of rolling toilet in my opinion.
Guy is all over the place goes from pathfinder is top 4 or 5 but don’t recommend a top 5 ? Then he says top ones like highlander and telluride at top but boring and ugly his top pics he almost sounds like a buick advertisement shoving that buick down our throats and that it’s superior
Ok, it’s hot outside, wearing a dark t shirt, you have a tall family of four…. What about the car you’re reviewing? Is any good apart from its sluggish 9 speed transmission?

There should be a class action lawsuit for the rear brakes wearing out at 15K miles in normal driving conditions. Stay away from the vehicle. Passenger seat is so low the passenger can't see anything. I hate the fact that it can't recognize a bike rack or trailer and slams on the brakes when backing. Have to disable the rear emergency braking every time you start the vehicle. Nissan really didn't think through it's engineering on this one. Did I mention I have had to pull over a couple of time to reboot the vehicle due to every idiot light coming on and erroring out!!! Took pictures and show my Nissan dealership maintenance and they replaced my battery thinking it would resolve the issues. NOPE! It still does it especially up in the mountain passes. Once again stay away for the POS.
This is a bummer to hear, but it’s not the first time disappointed Pathfinder owners have responded. Such a shame because there’s a lot to like about the Pathfinder fundamentals if they could nail down the ride and work out the bugs.
@@bwaters698 If it counts for anything, I have one of the "jellybeans" mentioned in the video. since the new PF still seems to share several mechanical similarities, I can tell you that as the shocks age, the SUV does start to rock a bit more when encountering laterally uneven surfaces. While I noticed several folks disagree with JAX, perhaps he's a little more sensitive than others to note the sensation?
Adaptive cruise control is nausiating. Needs a serious tune, which goes back to the engine/trans set up. The head unit is a serious problem. Glitchy as all get out. Software? Electronics? The front seats don't go back far enough. Barely tilt enough for thigh support. Gas mileage is not good. It won't stay in 9th gear to get better mpg. That shining black plastic is bad. Especially in the daytime sun. It always looks dirty. Nissan is bellow mazda, Subaru, Toyota, Honda. They are at the entry point for Japanese brands. Since they own Mitsubishi it's a wash.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. Check out our more recent review of the Rock Creek trim if you’re interested. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
We purchased an SL/premium last fall and love it so far. The drive by wire shifter gets a little getting used to but it seem to be the trend these days
Nice! Glad to hear it, and thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I drive in sport or auto mode most of the time 😅😅😅
Nice! Glad to hear you like it 👍🏻
Picking up the 2023 platinum this week. Can't wait.
Nice! Hope you enjoy. Keep your eye on the channel. Currently driving a Rock Creek edition, review coming soon. Thanks for watching!
@JAX Automotive rock creet model was a must before the much needed redesign. The others were pretty ugly for a while there.
@@DS-mo7vu Like the last-gen Pathfinder, which was an unfortunate jelly bean. Ugh. Hahaha!
@JAX Automotive haha def the best way to describe it.
I have mine 4WD and I enjoy every aspect because I fell like a balance between a comfortable mid size “SUV”
x 3-row family when needed and a “truck” tough rugged look and performance up on the heels to “find my off road path”.
@@jax1079 of course!
This is a modern annoyance for sure. Auto start/stop systems should be permanently defeated with a button.
Great video. Thanks man
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
We drove the Pathinder perhaps more than you did and did not observe the negatives you talked about. The car has some negatives like no lock on the fuel door, not the best auto pilot, no lane keeper unless the cruise is on, and is a gas guzzler but for $41,800 for a 4WD SL there are NO better alternatives IMO.
It’s a great value for sure. Maybe I need to try the Rock Creek edition which I heard sorts out some of my suspension complaints. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻
No lock in the fuel door?.... if so, then anyone can open it anytime and put somethin?
@@bogart5131 Correct. In many cars central lock locks the fuel door, but not in this one. Hopefully they will fix it in future models.
Once you lock the car, the fuel door is locked.
I had the same issues with the transmission but my dealership pushed a software update a couple weeks ago and the transmission shift’s amazing now.. it also shut up the sonar sound at startup which was super annoying.
Interesting! Sounds like a good thing to have done. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for watching 🙏🏻
From owning Nissans since 2012 I can tell you their transmissions are programmed to get to overdrive as fast as possible and stay there as long as possible. But you get use to it .
Makes sense. The Pathfinder definitely feels that way. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
"One of them is telling me to stop because it's embarrassing here... it's that one, IT'S THAT ONE!" 🤣😂🤣😅 that's such a Dad move... I do the same with my 8yo daughter
Hahaha! That’s what I’m here for: relatable car reviews 😉👍🏻 Thanks for watching!
That's a Dad's duty - it's in the job description, lol!
Exactly how tall are you? Impressed with the legroom of the path finder? I'm 6'5" 230lbs Thanks!
Just over 6’5” about 235 😉👍🏻
Awesome! How would you rank the ride seat comfort for tall guys like us? Also, have you tried the S/SV seats with cloth material, not leather/lower than SL trims?@@jax1079
Looking at this 2023 Pathfinder and 2023 PILOT...outdoor versions...love the interior of the Nissan...but will get Pilot for reliability?

Great info. Thanks again for your valued time 👍🏻

Yeah, range is only average, and you’re not going to find a lot of aftermarket options for it.
Spacer lifts are available if you need the extra inch.
I've towed 5,800 pounds with the 2023 SL Premium with no problems. Not sure if I would do it all the time but had no issues when I did.
Did you take the Buick on the roads outside of Atlanta? Nope. You drove on bad roads and then tried to say it's the pathfinders fault it moved side to side. Take the Buick on bad roads and compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges. Thanks. Have a great day.
Tested the Pathfinder multiple times. Tested the Buick multiple times. The Buick rides better. Have a great day.
I find pathfinder more attractive than the Kia telluride .
Megan agrees. She likes the Kia but she very much likes the look of the Pathfinder, especially in green.
Do the side mirror auto fold when you lock the vehicle?
Don’t remember, but I don’t think so
Can you turn the (on/off) OFF forever? or every time you start the car will re-engage?
Hmmm… not sure, but a lot of them can’t be switched off forever.
It turns back on every time you start the car. Super annoying, especially since it's not a particularly good implementation, and in my experience, the savings is gas is super negligible.
This review was brought to you by Buick. Just joking. Thanks for sharing.
Hahaha! Well, in some ways… I feel like the Enclave doesn’t get the love it deserves in this price range. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
The Kia is so marked up it approaches lux price.
These are the facts
Kia Telluride has a $9,600 usd mark up in California 🤣 asking 61k

@@jax1079 Interesting. Ty
Don’t forget, Honda did their own programming for that 9 speed. The complaints about it were on Honda software, not the transmission hardware.
how would you to this with Kia Sorento for Ride-handling, tech, features and Value .
30k on the odometer of my 2022 Pathfinder AWD. Trust your first instincts and go with a Highlander or Pilot.
Yikes
Guy is all over the place goes from pathfinder is top 4 or 5 but don’t recommend a top 5 ? Then he says top ones like highlander and telluride at top but boring and ugly his top pics he almost sounds like a buick advertisement shoving that buick down our throats and that it’s superior

Ok, it’s hot outside, wearing a dark t shirt, you have a tall family of four…. What about the car you’re reviewing? Is any good apart from its sluggish 9 speed transmission?
I mean, how can you know if a vehicle is good or not if you don't know the ambient temperature? I just don't know of any other way to review cars!
@@jax1079 I was considering this car, but after your review I changed my mind, I need a 7 seater, capable both on road and off-road, good ground clearance, strong reliable engine, good transmission, reliable is another big factor….. so I’m going for Toyota Land Cruiser Sahara not the Sahara ZX as ZX has 20 inch wheels and not designed for off-road as the normal Sahara due to the front bumper design..

Yes Atlanta traffic is horrendous!!!
It certainly is!
Transmission problem??
No longer the CVT. Same 9-speed as in the honda.

Adaptive cruise control is nausiating. Needs a serious tune, which goes back to the engine/trans set up. The head unit is a serious problem. Glitchy as all get out. Software? Electronics?
