  • This grand home on Lake Forests Mayflower Road is truly one of the most magnificent ever built in Chicago. The 27-room mansion was completed in 1915 as a wedding gift from John G. Shedd, then the president of Marshall Field & Co., to his daughter...

Sold for $5 million, about 1/2 asking which par for the course for these big houses in Lake County. Property tax at that price will be about $141,000 per year. Sellers took an absolute bath on this, $5m is probably what it cost to upkeep all these years. Still, a historic house. The king of the shore in Lake Forest. Congrats to the new owners!

    • @MissCane9

It's famous for being haunted but the last owners didn't care and meticulously restored it. Apparently , a hot shower, running on its own, fogging up the bathroom mirror with "I'm here" written on it, was too much. The couple finally became overwhelmed by the project and divorced.
But I, after all that time and money spent, living had to be unnerving in the extreme.

P.S. I believe in haunts, but I get no sort of creepy energy from this crib! I guess if you got that kind of money to throw around test drive the place. Seventy-two hour challenge. Po' folk like me only get to drool from behind a stupid screen unworthy of staying even one night in such opulence.

k, 2:00, there's reflection from the light but around this point looks like more than reflection 4:00 freeze it, (looks like someone standing in 2 rooms around 4 minutes) 4:17 same (is that a guy in a smoking jacket sitting on the couch?) and are those big minuet statueens? cause they seem to disappear too when the camera moves. was looking for something less ominous like "lights" or blurrs after watching a "scary houses" video .. and the realtor sounds scared. she says his bathroom, her bathroom, like they still use them. and "party for him" on the patio, like he's still around ... they seem a little creeped out and the guy puts his hand up in a defensive gesture, like ready to confront something, every time they go from one room to the other. this was #1 on list of haunted mansions. why would they leave two of the candles in the dining room bent way over showing the place, when "the ghosts knock the candles over" is one of the "haunts?"
