alternatively to using the little dot you could center your design on the virtual mat to the 6" by 6" mat. it's easy to find it on the canvas with the + marking the center.

Awesome video! I’m just learning this whole cricut thing so hope you’ll bear with my question. How does the machine know not to cut the reference point you created? If I remember correctly you attached it to the design? Thanks!
Hi, sorry for the delay in responding! So, with reference marks you can either make them small enough to where the cut won't matter, or use a draw mark to not be an actual cut.
Thanks for the tutorial. It looks like the leather is placed on a clear tape, which is then placed onto the mat. Could you please tell me what kind of material is that? Is it a doubled-sided tape? Thanks.
Matt Dolan it was just the cricut brand, nothing special :) Cricut VINYL STRONG GRIP TRANSFER TAPE 12X48, 12x48-Inches, Clear www.amazon.com/dp/B071YT34Z1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_IPfYDbX43V52A
It's been a while since I've done this, but The default starting point in my experience isn't very exact, and it's easier to identify the 1x1 or other locations.
Lonwat It does leave a mark, but small enough that it doesn’t really show or impact anything. You could certainly place something there, especially if you were using the technique for another tool like a pen.
I followed along with this video to engrave on leather. I did everything he did, but when it came time to press go, it won't except that I have the engraving tool and not the fine point blade. How do I make that work?
I looked on Amazon and seen they have come up with Chomas Creations Etching/Engraving Precision Tip Tool for Maker & Explore - it is supposed to engrave on pretty much anything you want. Was wondering which one you think would be better. Getting mixed reviews. Also wanted to know if your's still worked and if you think it's worth the investment? Thanks so much.
Keri Hess that is the one I have, unless they have some new version, in which case I don’t know what the difference is. I haven’t used this much, I think it’s a good tool, it wasn’t expensive at only $30, so certainly worth it. I haven’t tried it on anything other than leather because I don’t think it’s precise enough to make clean small engravings on things like dog tags. The ones I’ve seen all look ok, but kinda rough. I also don’t really want metal shavings flying around the inside of my machine, so I stick to leather. Overall, I think it’s great for what I use it for. This is the specific one I have: Chomas Creations Engraver/Etching Tool for Maker and Explore www.amazon.com/dp/B07CLDPV6Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_n8rZbJ49aaGv4
Barbee Gonzales that’s surprising, must be some really thick stuff. I’ve used pieces of vegtan straight from a leather store which is pretty thick. Unfortunately, if it won’t fit than there isn’t much to do. Sorry!
I haven’t used those myself. If I recall, those are faux leather and on the thin side. I wouldn’t expect them to hold up too well given the pressure. If cricut has genuine leather options those might be worth looking at again.
I would imagine to the letter of the warranty they probably say something to that effect. There’s probably a risk, but I decide it was worth it given how it works is no different than any other tool.
I got this tool today and im wanna do the engraving for a dog tag how would i get my cricut maker to pic this to up? It will not read this toolit will read the 41 graving tool
Troy Shimkus so in my design the lettering and everything engraving is chosen. I set up my material like you and it says it isn’t compatible when I try to choose it. So I just choose a tooling leather the size I need and when it tells me to load the tool and I do it says not detected.
Holy Crap, I thought I knew everything about the cricut. Thank you for the tricks and tips I learned in this video. I'm blown out of my seat!!!!
I will definitely be trying out the 1/1 point system you created. Ty!
I love the transfer tape tip

Good use of strong grip transfer tape! I accidentally bought some and was like, WTF am I gonna use this for now?!
Thanks! That alignment bit was super helpful!
Glad it helped!
I've learned a lot from this video. Thank you :)
Great tips and ideas!
great video and tips! I never even thought to use either the transfer tape or the engraver tool which I have! thanks

Sofia Sepulveda thanks for that! I’m trying to plan out some things and do more, but work gets in the way lol
Awesome!!
EXCELLENT VIDEO! Very informative - Thank you very much for doing this! I love technical information!
Glad it was helpful!
By the way f you select the filigree design and click "attach" before you try to engrave it , the design will stay exactly where you put it
KEEP AT IT!!!
Great video
Good job Troy
great video! Thanks for sharing! Do you have a link for that backtape you are using?
Excellent video> Can you use the engraving tool on a scan n cut?
This was a great tutorial! Thank you! Subscribed!
I need this tool! Great content, thank you.
love the video can you tell me the thickness of the leather please?
Sorry for the delay in responding, I missed these notifications! This leather is about 2mm thick.

Draw mark yes that makes perfect sense. Thanks! 👍
Very informative video. Can you use the snap mat feature to position the coaster?
Caroline & George Gallant good question, I’ve actually never tried snap mat, but could be worth a shot!
Thanks for the tutorial. It looks like the leather is placed on a clear tape, which is then placed onto the mat. Could you please tell me what kind of material is that? Is it a doubled-sided tape? Thanks.
Mikeoz I’m actually using cricut transfer tape. Stick it to the leather, then unsticky side goes on mat.
@@musickmann I see. That makes sense. Thanks.
Can you share a link for the strong grip transfer tape you used? There are so many options out there! Thanks!!

Couldn't you put your dot at 0.25 and 0.25 and have it auto align your design since it defaults to that point?
It's been a while since I've done this, but The default starting point in my experience isn't very exact, and it's easier to identify the 1x1 or other locations.
@@musickmann Thanks for the reply, do you still follow the same process or have you improved the leather engraving/carving since then?
I believe you used the FINE POINT TIP not the engraving tip (there is an engraving tip). Great information. Thank you for sharing.
This was a non-cricut accessory. Cricut came out with their own engraving tip after I made this video.
Enjoyed! However, does the tool make a mark on the mat at 1"? Should you put a piece of scrap cardstock there?
Lonwat
It does leave a mark, but small enough that it doesn’t really show or impact anything. You could certainly place something there, especially if you were using the technique for another tool like a pen.
I followed along with this video to engrave on leather. I did everything he did, but when it came time to press go, it won't except that I have the engraving tool and not the fine point blade. How do I make that work?
Just put the engraver into when the blade would go.

@@deltonastrong7777 Thank you very much for all the information. I appreciate it and hope you have a wonderful day.
My leather is too thick to slide under the bar that feeds material in the cricut. Any way solutions?
Barbee Gonzales that’s surprising, must be some really thick stuff. I’ve used pieces of vegtan straight from a leather store which is pretty thick. Unfortunately, if it won’t fit than there isn’t much to do. Sorry!
Thank you !!
You're welcome!
What kind of leather are you using for the Cricut engraving tool? Name of it and where do you buy it? Thank you
I don't have the official cricut tool, but for leather I bought pieces from my local Tandy Leather store
Do you know if the cricut (silver, gold, etc) leather engraves as well as the leather you demonstrated?
I haven’t used those myself. If I recall, those are faux leather and on the thin side. I wouldn’t expect them to hold up too well given the pressure. If cricut has genuine leather options those might be worth looking at again.
Wow.
Would you tell me the settings you use to engrave on Veg tan leather? Thanks so much!
snarkleparkle at about 4:45 isn’t the video I go over the custom setting I made on the maker for this project.
Basically I used the max pressure of 350 on a single pass.
Could you please tell me how thick the leather is. Thank you
Sue Millenbaugh the coasters are about 3mm thick.
Thank you
is that a scoring tool? Same???
Kim Donally it’s not the cricut brand, this video was made prior to cricut having is the engraving tip from chomas creations.
Does the use of this tool void the warranty on my Cricut Maker?
I would imagine to the letter of the warranty they probably say something to that effect. There’s probably a risk, but I decide it was worth it given how it works is no different than any other tool.
I got this tool today and im wanna do the engraving for a dog tag how would i get my cricut maker to pic this to up? It will not read this toolit will read the 41 graving tool
Not sure I follow exactly; but my maker didn’t have to “pick up” anything. It just used it as the standard tool.
Troy Shimkus my maker says it cannot detect the engraving tool as well. I am stuck.
Are you choosing an engrave option somewhere?
I'm wondering if they've updated settings since I did this.
Troy Shimkus so in my design the lettering and everything engraving is chosen.
I set up my material like you and it says it isn’t compatible when I try to choose it. So I just choose a tooling leather the size I need and when it tells me to load the tool and I do it says not detected.
Sounds like something did change. Ill have to try this again after all the updates. Sounds like perhaps cricut is not allowing any non cricut tools
