  • I was asked to use this tune (which I'm told is traditional) for some teaching. How would I play it? It's quite a simple tune so I would play more than the basic tune, adding notes, patterns, rhythms and variations. This is just one possible interpretation. The notes do not descend below the drone of D but I prefer to play it on an instrument tuned to G allowing for lower notes, such as the C used here.
If you would like to help me survive a little longer to create further music/video then small donations are appreciated via ko-fi.com/stev... or tracks can be purchased for download at stevetyler.ban...

Now that I have played the gurdy a couple of years, this performance is even more stunning. I love all the improvisation and flourishes.

Beautiful, Steve, but I think you left the beginners way back at the beginning somewhere.

This is not the lesson, of course, but just what I might want to do with it. It may contain examples of patterns worth practicing, if you like that sort of thing. A beginner would aim to play the basic tune at a medium speed with one buzz per note. After that I don't think you'd be a beginner anymore. (Perhaps I'm taking your comment too seriously).

    Your gurdy is magnificent!
I just ordered a new one from a Polish luthier.
I hope mine has similar tone, if you ever want to sell it.

This one is fairly quiet acoustically but I am using pickups along with mics to record it.

Made by Chris Eaton; one of his double keyboard models.
