You safed my life! I build my own Gurdy and during the tuning process I almost gave up. Thanks to you, because I didn't know, that too less cotton causes harmonics. And I had a lot of them!

I switched yesterday to tampon cotton and it was a lot easier to split and wrap around the strings...no more traditional cotton balls for me

Also a somewhat more accessible and super accessible alternative to find is the cotton of tampons! I know it sounds weird but it is of good quality and serves very well! (in case there is any other type of tampon I mean the one used by women)

I dont even own a hurdy gurdy. I know so little about them except i think they are really cool and was so saddened to find out just HOW expensive they are for any quality. After my electric guitar modification is complete I will HAVE to try and build a Hurdy

You have good gurdies starting from 350€ on a kit an 1150€ mounted, not bad ;)

Thanks for your video! I am trying to put together a Nerdy Gurdy and rosin/cotton is the most frustrating step so far! If I may ask about the rayon you use - how long is each fiber? I spin yarn so I'm trying to find the best fiber of what I already have. I made a mess with long fibers (8cm or longer) but the real cotton I have is very short (2-3cm) - I'm guessing that is still longer than tampon cotton. What would you use? Thanks for any advice, and thank you again for your helpful videos!!

Hello , thanks for your videos , can I ask you what's the name of the synthetic materiel you use

  • @tolgakarabykoglu6429

So cottoning is some kind of filtering out those nasty harmonics. Like a very narrow notch-pass filter.

    fun fact.Rayon isn't synthetic!
It's pine or bamboo fibers and makes very comfortable clothes for hot climates.
Trying to use natural cotton sliver instead of unwound cotton balls segments (doesn't stick together well)
This is so much easier than the way i was told with plucking the string while turning the drone wheel to bounce on the cotton until it's tight.

      A lot of people don't!
But this video was so helpful, my cotton sliver doesn't come loose or unwind while practicing anymore
