One thing I really like about the multiplayer that you didn't mention is how if you kill a boss while in someone else's game, you still get the parts for creating your own boss weapons. Which makes it very rewarding to help other players with a boss that you yourself have never fought. I also love how many secrets there are in this game. Many bosses have multiple materials to give you should you complete certain conditions. The giant tree monster (the Ent) for example. If you shoot its legs until they're destroyed, it'll give you a hammer that causes guaranteed stagger, whereas if you kill it with its legs intact it'll give you a shotgun that shoots out AoE spores. Another boss, Brabus, can be completed without even fighting him. Most of the time, you'll meet him, kill him, then get a mod for the Explosive Shot mod. But if you have a Pocket Watch amulet that another NPC gave you, you can instead give that to him in exchange for the Bandit armor set, and be set free. Then there's yet ANOTHER way of doing it in that if you go into the fight with another person, he'll give you a chance to kill each other, with the winner getting the Cold as Ice perk. There are so many secrets to the game that it feel like it adds so many more layers of depth to the game, and I love it.
Great review. I've been really enjoying the game so far, and you nailed a lot of my own thoughts pretty well. I definitely feel like I've gotten my money's worth from this game, about a hundred hours into it, up to trait rank 550, and obtained nearly every item available so far. I'm definitely looking forward to expansions, and would be more than happy to pay for them. It's not without its flaws, but I feel like Gunfire is doing a great job and have the right approach. Though, I would like to clarify something about what you said about multiplayer campaign progression that could be a bit misunderstood; that if you join your friend's game you don't benefit from that progress when you return to your own. While that's true in the sense of your progress through the narrative, you still keep all experience, currency, consumables, gear, and items (including boss drops) whenever you do decide to return to your own session. This way, for example, if your friend had a dungeon spawn in their campaign that didn't spawn in yours and you want a drop from it, you can join them and complete that dungeon together to get that reward permanently for both of you. My friend and I have played through the campaign multiple times, telling each other what dungeons and bosses we got in order to get the gear we want. I know you said 'story progression' in that part of the review, but by following it up with saying you'll have to repeat 10 hours of progress all over again, I felt like it just gave the wrong impression that there's no benefit to multiplayer unless you're the host. Cheers, thanks for covering this game.

Dude! Had no idea this game even existed! Haven't even played Control and Concrete Genie yet and pretty hyped for FFVII, but this game just came out of nowhere and it's gonna be the first I'll play lol
The Survival Mode in this game is amazing. I really wish more people knew about it. The game itself is so well balanced and mechanically sound. There isn't really an ability that you can say is useless, everything is viable.
About the difficulty... I played with my brother on the max difficulty and it was one of the most intense moments we ever lived. Gorefist destroyed us for 2 full days until we finally beat him, then we stopped playing because the game was using too many outer areas and my Intel HD 4000 just wasn't cutting it there. Hopefully when my new PC arrives we can get back to it.
This game is amazing. And the devs say this is just the beginning. A framework for their mastahpiece! Really looking forward to it. Only about 4 bosses in right now. Just the beginning.
I'm on my second playthrough now and I've really enjoyed my 20-22 hours with it so far. Repetition starting to creep in a bit but still pressing on in search of new mods/traits/bosses/objectives/dungeons. Its been good, clean fun. Thank you Gunfire Games! Thanks to Skill Up too for another awesome review as always. 😉
There's a couple things I'd like to see changed, and I hope they add continued support, but I'll be damned if this isn't the most fun I've had playing a game in a while. My wife was confused when I was laughing and having a good time playing this with my friends instead of screaming at 9 year olds on league of legends.
I’m on my 4th re roll and I’ve been loving this game. It’s been a super refreshing experience that’s not centered around PvP or micro transactions. I can’t wait for them to ad DLC.
Haven't played it yet, but I've always been struck by the evasion in this game. Every enemy attack seems tuned to be relatively easy to avoid, but only ever by a very narrow margin. Combat is almost a ballet, and it looks like a blast to play.
Richard Cline the charge time sucks in boss fights if you start it at 0, in dungeons and such it only takes about 20-30 enemies, only 15-20 with the set that gives you extra mod gen speed. It’s not too bad, in the overall arch. But getting the gun is quite a pain in the ass lemme tell ya

@@jedediahcoulbourne1791 I don't, just happened to watch his video before seeing any others on this game. Played it for myself and had a really good time with it. :D
Greatly appreciated how you can solo this game even if your weapons are a bit slower. For the vast majority of game I used the Sniper Rifle and Hunting Pistol both of which you need to reload after every shot.
Jim Sterling's commentary and news/views on the games industry are excellent - but his taste in games is awful. Jim hating the game was what first made me think it might be good.
played 100% of it in Solo, it is doable. with a lot of preparation and deaths... don't be afraid to die in this game, you're not losing currency or souls, only thing wasted is consumables and time. but save enough of consumables (such as that potions, buffing items, and of course, lots of extra ammo) and upgrade all of your gear, and you get to experience power, not too powerful that you kill everyone in one hit, but just enough that you can turn the tables but you can still get killed by carelessness The best build I ever made in this game is the unending distraction where in my set essentially powers my totems long enough that when they ran out, I can pop in a new one and distract enemies for an eternity. as well as a summon build, Who needs multiplayer when you have minions?
!spoilers for the first few hours! When I started, I was like "hmm this is kinda cool ig, I like enemies and guns and stuff" and then I went through a portal to an alien world with Egyptian-inspired architecture filled with barbarians and ruled by an interdimensional demon god and I was like "oh"
25 hours in and we’re loving it. Planning many re-roles of the campaign having completed it twice already (one as each of me and my friend as the host)
I instantly fell in love with this game. Sometimes it feels like its in the same universe as Darksiders in a distant future maybe. The labyrinth, like the tree connects worlds... Also, try listening to the amazing Darksiders 2 soundtrack while playing Remnant.
This game is AMAZING! It has been one of the best gaming experiences I have had in a long time! I can not stop playing and I am on my second playthrough now and have already ran into totally different areas and bosses! This is a must buy for anyone that likes third person shooters or looter shooters because this has awesome weapons, gear, mods, and traits to hunt for over multiple playthroughs!
Jim's review makes more sense after watching yours, you explain many of the gripes he had much better. He spent more time being pissy (his style, I know) than actually fleshing out his criticism properly.
This is a great game. Totally under the radar on Xbox. Not promoted at all. Found it damn hard though!!! 😆 Loads of satisfaction from progressing. And it's only £30!!!! Amazing value
Jim said Destiny was a must buy and screwed me out of 60 bucks and later made a video saying he was wrong. I learned that I like him as a whistle blower, not so much as someone with the same gaming taste.
My sister and I are still playing this during weekends, she's able to play on her own during the weekdays so I'm underleveled in her world but I can get tons of XP everytime we kill a boss so I'm able to catch up to her level every co-op session. Our story choices also differs, some boss gives different rewards depending on how you approach them which makes the co-op much more better because we can get both rewards without the sacrifice of loosing one. That is the point of having the story locked to the host during co-op.
As always, a wonderful review. Between you and ACG I always know what I’m buying and you haven’t been wrong on any of my purchases yet. However, this review was less helpful to me because I’m playing solo and some points you made were definitely off the mark for my solo experience. That said I just subscribed to your channel because of how good it is. Keep up the good work!
Just got it for free on epic, it's fun. But it has some questionable design decisions that got me scratching my head: - no chat features, at all. Be it text/voice. Communication is limited to pinging and emoting, which is really weird for this type of game. Like why? - can't move area if there's a player joining - can't chat with the same NPC at the same time And that's just what i gathered from 5 hours of gameplay
I could immediately tell in the first couple of minutes of your video that it's from the same guys as Darksiders, despite it being a different genre. Lots of stylistic similarities, especially in the way the open areas look. A lot of the systems that you said were similar to Dark Souls are also very Darksiders-esque. As a big fan of the Darksiders games (could you tell?) ill probably have to pick this up!
They also copied a bunch of their art assets from Darksiders 3 and dumped them into the Earth section of this game. That church look familiar? It's in both games. Lots of the cars and scatter as well. They weren't kidding when they said they had a low budget.
I bet you've already beat that boss but yeah he's pretty annoying. Wouldn't be that hard at all without those explody balloon things, so far those had killed me more times than everything else in the game combined.
@@DADDA game is fun, however maybe it's mean to be coop, because the only solution to most of it seems to put your sensitivty to WARP SPEED, and 180 check behind you every fight between every reload

Its pretty tame looking back and forth compared to games like overwatch, Quake, doom or csgo where youre spinning and flying all over the place. Just watching this review. Played Remnant on gamepass with my fiancée, then the DLCs last year, played through again with my fiancée and sister in law, then with my brother, and thinking about going back to it again. Such a fantastic coop experience, challenging, wonderful build diversity.
I saw Jim's video before watching this, and based on that video alone, I had no interest in ever playing this game. After watching your review here, I realize there was a lot of key information that was left out (probably unintentionally) of Jim's video. I'm still not entirely convinced this game is as great as most people are saying, but I have a definite interest in it now, and will almost certainly pick it up if it improves or goes on sale. Thanks for the informative review!
It wasn't unintentional : to paraphrase him he couldn't be fucked to go past the ent, hence why his review is so bad despite some (very few) good points.
22:35 Going into this game blind, i was kinda underwhelmed until that thing unexpectedly hammered down from the cosmos. The setting and lore of the game is its best factor in my opinion. The environments are gorgeously different (on console the graphics aren't too hot, but it doesn't detract from the experience at all)
THE best co-op i've every played. blew me away. the fluidity of the guns and melee was one of the best i've seen. AI was honestly the best i've seen. so much creativity. one of the few games that I could actually see stats of weapons/armor etc make a difference and know it's working. boss fights that actually took planning with my friends. this should have been game of the year it is so underrated.
13:40 Headshots are generally still rewarding in this game, especially if you use percise weapons like hunting rifle or crossbow. I feel many enemies move their heads in a particular pattern to add another layer of skill about headshots. Maybe this wasn't the case when you made this video? Edit: Later into the game, enemies start to show vastly different attack patterns, and some certainly do have delayed attacks, if not multiple or lunging attacks to force you to dodge in a certain way. That plus the fact that your gears can't be upgraded over +20 means you do need some skill for higher difficulty.
I just finished my first playthru and played 100% solo. if you do solo NONE of the boss fights are easy. Its the total opposite. Every boss will own you until you figure out a good way to defeat them and literally do it flawlessly. Plus when they are almost dead they always pull out a few new tricks or become super aggressive just to fck you up and send you beck to the campfire.
Well, Jimbo supported his game blogger friends and not his audience during the Cuphead Controversy, so he does the same for other difficult games. In short, gamers that happen to do reviews are better references then activists disguised as game jurnos.
@@dr.chungusphd108 do you remember Polygon's Doom playthrough? what about Dean Takashi's Cuphead demo play? and the Cuphead commentocracy Dim Spergling made in responce cemented his standing quite nicely. Also, he called HIMSELF a Social Justice Bard, so there is even more evidence of how little we should be taking him seriously.
one of the coolest touch is the fact that you can hurt your friends, but the ennemies hurt themselves too. It helps a lot in the immertion departement i think.

About the difficulty... I played with my brother on the max difficulty and it was one of the most intense moments we ever lived.
Skill up: in solo you cant just charge in there.
Ruin: lemme introduce myself
God that charge time though. Or I could just suck idk

Jim hating the game was what first made me think it might be good.
ah yes, the "if Kotaku, Polygon and other activists think the game is awful, it might be good" reverse endorsement.
Jim hates what’s good and likes what’s bad
played 100% of it in Solo, it is doable. with a lot of preparation and deaths...
don't be afraid to die in this game, you're not losing currency or souls, only thing wasted is consumables and time. but save enough of consumables (such as that potions, buffing items, and of course, lots of extra ammo) and upgrade all of your gear, and you get to experience power, not too powerful that you kill everyone in one hit, but just enough that you can turn the tables but you can still get killed by carelessness
The best build I ever made in this game is the unending distraction where in my set essentially powers my totems long enough that when they ran out, I can pop in a new one and distract enemies for an eternity. as well as a summon build, Who needs multiplayer when you have minions?

Skill Up's and Jim Sterling's Remnant reviews exist in the same universe! HELP! Cognitive dissonance!!
Jim does not like Sekiro either so it kinda makes sense
Jims complaints were due to him being impatient and bad. He complained about the ent which is one of the most fair and manageable bosses in the game.
@@artval5340 neither of them liked Sekiro. For some reason.
The games not political enough for Jim.
But it has some questionable design decisions that got me scratching my head:
- no chat features, at all. Be it text/voice. Communication is limited to pinging and emoting, which is really weird for this type of game. Like why?
- can't move area if there's a player joining
- can't chat with the same NPC at the same time
And that's just what i gathered from 5 hours of gameplay
I could immediately tell in the first couple of minutes of your video that it's from the same guys as Darksiders, despite it being a different genre. Lots of stylistic similarities, especially in the way the open areas look. A lot of the systems that you said were similar to Dark Souls are also very Darksiders-esque.
As a big fan of the Darksiders games (could you tell?) ill probably have to pick this up!

They are ONLY hard because of endless minion spam. The bosses themselves are a total joke.
Alcovitch half the bosses are bigger enemies
