I’ma take this one step further: “Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself.” - Albus Dumbledore This phrase takes on WHOLE new meaning after this nugget of information!!
My theory was that the deluminator is just a tool for "calming" an obscurus. When an obscurial manifests their obscurus they lose themself and become lost to the outside world. They become obscured. The deluminator's ability to restore light is how it encourages and clarifies for the obscurial to find themself again. The person-locating/hearing functionality is just to help the user find the person under or inside the obscurus. Dumbledore will use the deluminator to pull Creedence back to the light. Bonus theory: Aurelius Dumbledore is just a scheme from Grindlewald to fulfill a prophecy he had. The prophecy will be something like "Dumbledore will be defeated when his love for a precious sibling clad in darkness is broken." Grindlewald tried to break that love as children and failed. Now, Grindlewald manufactures the sibling that will undo Dumbledore.
OHHHHH MY GOOOOD! OMG OMG MIND BLOWN! This makes total sense. I actually howled with the last part. Somehow I had even thought something similar when the last movie came out but thought it was too impossible. Great work guys, really killings it with these last videos. I just hope the movie is as good as these videos and they don't let us down again.
I realised while watching this that the deluminator’s power of taking you to someone who says your name is remarkably similar to the taboo that allows the snatchers to find anyone who says Voldemort’s name.
This is the first time ive found a video this close to the upload. I dont get notifications cuz i like small moments like this. Thanks for the good timing
The deluminator is kind of like a Wizard (EMP) electro magnet pulse, magical battery, homing beacon and possibly a way to absorb and channel magical energy. The Obscurus, like a parasite, feeds on magic as an energy source to essentially satiate itself. The deluminator can then release said light as energy channeled through the Wizard to defend against the Obscurus. It’s literally a struggle between light and dark with the Wizard balancing the two with the deluminator and as we know the deluminator can transport Wizards, it’s reasonable to assume with the right Magic and energy, the Deluminator could be used to transport it’s user into a sort of light mirror world where the Obscurial’s power can be negated.
5:20 if you watch carefully you can notice that the last light that went out actually had the light bulb explode You can see smoke coming from where the light was I can't speak for the rest of the lights that went out because they looked just like what the deluminator does It was just that last one that was a little weird
In another comment chain, some argue this light makes a buzzing sound when it goes out not breaking glass. I agree with you. How they present it in the video seems like they contradict themselves. They should've addressed this detail if it is true and is buzzing, not glass shattering.
J and ben always do. This movies gonna be much simpler and probably less exciting. I have bet actual money in credence being aberforths son, and more over I am convinced he is on the other side of the mirror sending them messages as Albus and Aberforth feel bad for abandoning him. Tbh I also think the Jacob wand thing is just a marketing tactic because they can’t go back on the rules of how magic works so he’s probably faking using magic in that one scene (it may even be Grindelwald doing it because it looks like he’s attacking Queenie and is trying to stop the wand and Grindelwald wants Queenie to fully commit to his side and forget about Jacob..)
One of My favorite quote from Dumbledore will always be: "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the ‘light." 👀😉 I know what he means by that but what else could he mean by it?…👀😉 and yes I 💯agree with everything you said and more! 🧙🏼♂️✨🔮
5:29 Actually, if you pay close attention to the left side of the screen, you can see the glass shattering on one of the lights. So he *is* breaking them!
I find it incredibly ironic and beautiful that Dumbeldore find a way to use is own name and give it so much weight similarly to Voldemort (with the tabo spell).
You say that Credence is not destroying the lights but using magic to turn them of but when you show the clip you can see one of the lights to the left exploding. 5:29. P.s. love your channel
what if when obscurials change themselves into their obscurus form, somewhat their body and the "black foggy thing" switch places from non being to real world. The deluminator could use that to teleport Dumbeldore during the fight while credence obscurus is messing around ..
Wouldn’t Dementors also be able to “put out the lights? (Ex: In PoA, as the one dementor gets close to and boards the Hogwarts Express, not only does the temperature vastly drop, but the lights throughout the train are shown flickering in each car until they are all fully extinguished.
Yes! You finally went back to the Credence is Ariana's obscurus turned human theory! I've been saying that for 2 years and you only made one video on that idea once. It's too perfect
@@umwha idk. I guess that's the way they executed the spell, or maybe it's a copy of an already existing baby, though I don't know why they would choose a boy then yeah
Honestly, this would have been a much more interesting resolution to this setup than what we actually got (I for one figured that maybe Credence's obscurus is the very same one as the one that used to possess Ariana, seeing how we know obscuruses can be removed from a person, so perhaps Albus accidentally succeeded in that when whoever it was killed his sister, and then the obscurus clung onto the nearest magical child it could find, which happened to be Credence)
This could also shows how Aberforth was able to know what the mirror did that Serious gave Harry and why he knew he could watch over him with it. I do wonder if that was something Dumbledore made for Serious because he felt bad for keeping Harry away from him.
I would push back on the observations about the deluminator being the only piece of magic besides an obscurus that can destroy or eliminate light. In the stories, the deluminator takes the orbs of light inside of itself and stores it there until released. That’s why Ron is able to produce light in the cellar of Malfoy Manor, because the deluminator still had light stored from when they were trying not to be caught by the snatchers (at least I think that’s when he got it). So the deluminator most definitely does not destroy or eliminate late. If anything it’s closer to the peruvian instant darkness powder. The powder smothers light instead of eliminating it, and the deluminator shrouds the light inside itself. Therefore, the deluminator definitely does not function like an obscurus. I love the brothers’ theories and almost always find them compelling, but this one is a bit out there for me. In general I think there are a whole lot of leaps being taken. Also, I think the brothers have a habit of building new theories off of the premises of their old theories, which have a compounding, circular logic that can get disconnected from what’s happening in the actual stories they discuss. This theory feels like a house of cards that could crumble if they’re even slightly wrong about anything else before this (such as the function of the deluminator, mirror dimensions, and more). Still a fun video, though! And I appreciate and respect the time it takes to put this together, as always! I will always and forever be stoked any time a SuperCarlinBrothers Harry Potter video pops up in my subscriptions, even when I occasionally disagree 😉
There's a similarity between the denominator and mirrors because they both have silver. silver is on glass that makes mirrors so this is must be an enchanted silver that allows a person to go into mirrors as well as grabbing light because mirrors reflect light so in some way he's able to capture the light.
Great theory about Arianna being Creedence . . . Totally thought the same thing after the Crimes of Grindelwald . . . I thought it was a long long shot but nice to see you think it could be possible. When she died and he was born aren't too far apart either . . Can't wait to see what happens, and love the videos, we need more!!!!!
5:51 but in that scene you can see the street lamps breaking as he gets near not the light leaving them and going to creedanse like with the dilluminator
I think you guys should do a video explaining the Disney eras, like your renaissance video. I really liked learning about it and would like to know the other eras.
I wonder if we might see Dumbledore create the deluminator by extracting the obscurus from Creedence. How? Well, Newt figured it out, so Dumbledore probably knows how.
When you refered to the lights going on out on the street, the second last light you can clearly see shatters. if you slow the playback down to .25% it makes it even more clear that the light blows apart.
The last few theories about this movie reminds me of the crazy guy in front of the board with red strings, instead it’s the Carlin brothers screaming “THE MIRRORS ITS ALL ABOUT MIRRORS”
"Newt removed the entire obscurus from a Sudanese girl. Unfortunately, the girl didn't survive." And you just called Newt more highly skilled than Dumbledore! Actually, failure like this was probably the reason Dumbledore knew NOT to remove an entire obscurus. Like the old saying in medicine; "The operation was a success, but the patient died."
I LOVE this theory. With all the talk of the stone and mirrors lately, I am wondering if the mirror in Aberforth‘s pub is more like the two mirrors that James and Sirius had - were they could talk to each other while they were in separate detentions, that Sirius gave to Henry in case Henry needed to get in touch with him.I think that the Dumbledore brothers could easily have had something like that and the writing/message to Aberforth is from Albus.
"What you desire most" and "it takes you to your treasure", so the Deluminator is Capt Jack Sparrow's compass? LOL. Now we know why he was fighting Dumbledore all this time!
Der Moment immer, wenn man eure Videos pausieren muss, weil die Theorie zu genial ist. When I watch your videos i often have to stop it because the theory is so mindblowing. Maybe Dumbledore has put Ariana into the Mirror but couldn't bring her back because now he loves Grindelwald the most (and not Ariana)
What's the range/power of the deluminator? Could you use it on a full moon? The sun? Probably not, but could you black out a city? Also what happens if you don't put the light back? Will the lamp never work again? What if you hook up a new lamp to the same wiring?
@@foxeon737 You can hold several lights in it. That's how he was able to keep the whole of privet drive dark, when dropping off Harry with the Dursleys. Also if you remember when Ron put the light on in the basement in Malfoys manor there were several orbs of light floating since they couldn't return to their original source.
I think you have to be more specific in the not be able to turn off light. But wizards are able to turn off lights but light which come from fires. Like dumbledore demonstrates in PoA and GoF. ( movie atleast not 100 percent sure about book) They have problems with light created by electricity. That is where the deluminator shines ( get it). But in the movies we see another thing that can turn off lights, also electrical. That are demontors. In every scene they are in the light either turn completely off or flikker so much that they are pretty much useless. Train scene in PoA light in the train turn off. OotP, the light in the tunel flikkers truns off the moment the demontor appears. Edit: fixing some spellin. There are probably still some there.
I have actually wondered if credence was the dark twin of areana and this video leads me to see it actually totally ties together, in a way its like dumbledore's being confronted with his dark past that he never dealt with. Also another thing to consider is that albus being inlove with gellert might mean we could eventually see dumbledore use the denominator to track down grindelwald just like ron did with hermione
It's an interesting theory, but the manner in which the lights go out is very different in the scene with Credence compared to how the deluminator is described to work: It pulls the light from the light source and confines it. Later it can release the light and send it back its source, or just let it float in the area.

“Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself.” - Albus Dumbledore
This phrase takes on WHOLE new meaning after this nugget of information!!
Uhhh... it was Hermione that said that, wasn't it? In Chamber of Secrets?
@@insertclevernamehere1186 Dumbledore said it to Harry in Philosopher’s Stone
@@insertclevernamehere1186 It was Dumbledore in the Philosopher’s Stone in the books. It’s only said by Hermione in the movies.
Me too
I realised while watching this that the deluminator’s power of taking you to someone who says your name is remarkably similar to the taboo that allows the snatchers to find anyone who says Voldemort’s name.
Credence: *family lineage unclear*
SCB: I can milk you
From what I remember, dementors can put out lights too. Perhaps the deluminator has some connection to them too.
Whenever you say Dumbledore's Secret Weapon that Umbrige scene with the centaurs pops up in my head. When she was looking for the "Secret Weapon"
Oh man this was so good! Well done as always guys, I have no idea how you always piece this stuff together so well!
I'm dying to see this movie and really nervous that J put 10x as much thought into this video than the writers did for the plot!
I found this channel 3 days ago and I’ve watched tens of hours worth of videos…amazing job, keep em coming!
That would be a cinematic effect. I can't remember anywhere in the books where it says they turn off lights of any kind.
Yes! You finally went back to the Credence is Ariana's obscurus turned human theory! I've been saying that for 2 years and you only made one video on that idea once. It's too perfect
Any idea why her obscurus turned into a male baby?
This is probably one of the best theory videoes you have made! Keep up the good work :D
Maybe Dumbledore took Credance to the "mirror" world so they wouldn't be destroying everything on their fight?
Noice. You guys are literally my favorite RUclipsrs. I’m a huge fan and I always agree with your theories.
So he was basically Anakin Skywalker-ed within the Gaunt family from Ariana's obscurus (add something about evil twinning Dumbledore)?
There's a similarity between the denominator and mirrors because they both have silver. silver is on glass that makes mirrors so this is must be an enchanted silver that allows a person to go into mirrors as well as grabbing light because mirrors reflect light so in some way he's able to capture the light.
Great theory about Arianna being Creedence . . . Totally thought the same thing after the Crimes of Grindelwald . . . I thought it was a long long shot but nice to see you think it could be possible. When she died and he was born aren't too far apart either . . Can't wait to see what happens, and love the videos, we need more!!!!!
I have watched so many of your vids keep making great content
Will do!
👍
5:51 but in that scene you can see the street lamps breaking as he gets near not the light leaving them and going to creedanse like with the dilluminator
I think you guys should do a video explaining the Disney eras, like your renaissance video. I really liked learning about it and would like to know the other eras.
I may have to watch it twice to understand it.... thanks J. I always love your take on things...
Credence: who is Albus Dumble-
Grindlewald: don’t say the name
Saw secrets of Dumbledore last night I can not wait to here you guys discuss!!!!!
it’s so impressive how he always fits the sponsorship segment exactly in the yellow line
The more theories you guys craft the more I like the series. A true celebration of fandom. And and also also love you guys ❤️
@5:28-5:29 the lights are not going out because Credence is near them, the one on the left that goes out explodes...
I wonder if we might see Dumbledore create the deluminator by extracting the obscurus from Creedence. How? Well, Newt figured it out, so Dumbledore probably knows how.
He already has the deluminator
When you refered to the lights going on out on the street, the second last light you can clearly see shatters. if you slow the playback down to .25% it makes it even more clear that the light blows apart.
The last few theories about this movie reminds me of the crazy guy in front of the board with red strings, instead it’s the Carlin brothers screaming “THE MIRRORS ITS ALL ABOUT MIRRORS”
“But you know, happiness can be found... even in the darkest of times... if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
Great video! Something I've always wondered from the books, what did dudley hear when he was attacked by the dementors?
Man I can't wait to see secrets of Dumbledore so excited
You have confirmed there was a lot more then what I curious about you have opened all whole different world for me with this wow.
J i love your energy in this video! i literally cant wait to see this movieeeeee
Awesome, interesting and entertaining as always! Thank you for creating videos on HP.
THIS LITERALLY MADE SOOO MUCH SENSE OMG
"Newt removed the entire obscurus from a Sudanese girl. Unfortunately, the girl didn't survive." And you just called Newt more highly skilled than Dumbledore! Actually, failure like this was probably the reason Dumbledore knew NOT to remove an entire obscurus. Like the old saying in medicine; "The operation was a success, but the patient died."
This is probably the most obscure (pun intended) detail to make a theory on and I am HERE for it. Makes total sense!
To paraphrase a wise man,
It's a Gatling gun on the roof of Hogwarts.
Anyone else notice how J's hair changed halfway through? Lol I was doing the side sweep and then he fluffed it back up
As always, Ben for Kvothe and J for Elodin!🧙🏻♂️🗡 I always enjoy your Harry Potter videos!
Albus was in that scene tho.. I think they’re contacting credence through the mirror cause they feel bad about abandoning him..
There is something wrong with the youtube subtitles. It says: when Ron abandoned Harry in Germany :D I am pretty sure that’s not what happend
Love this theory! Very well thought out! Could you link your hoodie?
"What you desire most" and "it takes you to your treasure", so the Deluminator is Capt Jack Sparrow's compass? LOL. Now we know why he was fighting Dumbledore all this time!
🤣🤣 👏🏼
Der Moment immer, wenn man eure Videos pausieren muss, weil die Theorie zu genial ist. When I watch your videos i often have to stop it because the theory is so mindblowing.
Maybe Dumbledore has put Ariana into the Mirror but couldn't bring her back because now he loves Grindelwald the most (and not Ariana)
What's the range/power of the deluminator? Could you use it on a full moon? The sun? Probably not, but could you black out a city?
Also what happens if you don't put the light back? Will the lamp never work again? What if you hook up a new lamp to the same wiring?
pretty sure when u use the deluminator u can take out only one light at a time so that will take a loooooooong time in a city
Oh man all of these questions are so good and I hope we get answers in the movie!
( movie atleast not 100 percent sure about book)
They have problems with light created by electricity.
Are you going to discuss the movie scene that was release where Dumbledore talks about the Blood Pact?
5:28 I very clearly see that one light shattering
I have actually wondered if credence was the dark twin of areana and this video leads me to see it actually totally ties together, in a way its like dumbledore's being confronted with his dark past that he never dealt with. Also another thing to consider is that albus being inlove with gellert might mean we could eventually see dumbledore use the denominator to track down grindelwald just like ron did with hermione
J’s face during that last portion was everything I needed today.
It’s weird how similar the deluminator works to Voldys power of when you say his name
This is the best theory so far! Thanks J!
I just need to watch this 10 more times and I might get it. 😄 Brilliant job Ben!
It's an interesting theory, but the manner in which the lights go out is very different in the scene with Credence compared to how the deluminator is described to work: It pulls the light from the light source and confines it. Later it can release the light and send it back its source, or just let it float in the area.
Nice theories as usual from you!
I just saw the movie yesterday. So nice to see this again after watching the movie!
5:30 you literally see one of the lamp posts shatter indicating that he’s breaking them
That made me laugh so hard when in the beginning Jay said I like to think you took a really big breath before saying that.
Dementors technically turn off lights and everything else around them.
Maybe the Deluminator has a part of a Dementor in it 😂
Love the videos, your intro art style hurts me physically but I totally accept and respect that loads of people love it. I just. I have never seen either of yalls veins and I'd rather keep it that way if that's ok, ok? love yaaaa
Man, I am watching the light on the street burst. How are they just being turned out? Where did you get this knowledge 0_0
Convincing and thought-out as always to the point where I‘m in doubt if the ones in charge of the movies have as much knowledge of the source material to come up with something even remotely close.
@5:25 Yes, he is breaking them. You can see the glass shattering on the streetlights.
U guys are so amazing after a long week I always look forward to Tuesday and Thursday when I can watch a new vid of urs 😃😃😃😃
Dumbledore looks like Bob Odenkirk in the thumbnail and I can’t get over it
