      @coolnerdlll6053 can't be that blatant come on now. It's fine if other works influence you, but if you go full tilt and outright steal an idea from someone else, that's just plagiarism. The similarities are already very apparent. A piece of jewelry infused with the soul of an evil dark lord that will torture the wearer and will fight back against being destroyed. That bit of soul keeping the one who put the soul into the jewelry tied to the mortal realm. And the only way to defeat said dark lord is by destroying the jewelry completely. There are differences aplenty to keep it from just blatant plagiarism

      @@brettbrooks5511Yeah. She almost certainly did. The One Ring is actually both a lot like a Horcrux and the complete opposite at the same time. Sauron is a Maia, and so he is immortal by nature. When he created the Ring, he actually introduced that weakness of binding himself to the Ring in exchange for more power, specifically power over the 19 Rings of Power. Had he never created the ring, he never could have been permanently killed. Basically, before he created the Ring he was like Voldemort when he has his Horcruxes. You can kill his body but he never truely dies, and he can form a new body. When the One Ring is destroyed, Sauron isn't actually killed. He's reduced to a spirit, never able to gain enough power to reform a body, because so much of his power was put into the Ring. He becomes a lot like what Voldemort was after he tries to kill Harry as a baby, except he can't come back.

    I had always thought the idea of the soul as a sheet of cloth was a good metaphor. When you do harm and bad makes the sheet dirty. You can do good to clean it but stains remain and takes alot of work to truly be clean again. Depending on the evil acts causes the sheet to fray the ends and tear. Murders would cause clean rips of the sheet but most people do their best to keep it small and to not tear that sheet too much. I assumed making a horcrux would purposefully do great evil and murder with the intent to tear your own soul sheet so much that a piece of it would tear off completely. This would be real Dark magic and would explain why not all murders immediately create horcruxes. The caster has to intentually make the rip completely tear their soul.

      Taking your very good analogy, committing murder does cause your soul to fray and tear, but is remains intact and repairable. Even if the soul tears, remorse and repentance can repair the damage somewhat. After you commit murder, THEN you cast the horcrux spell. That takes that piece of soul and PERMANITLY separate it from person.
      Even Grinwald soul, after his defeat but before his genuine remorse, was cleaner that Voldemort's soul post Goblet of Fire.

    I always saw the diary as being able to come back because Voldemort had probably put so much of himself into it. You could have something there. Voldemort pours his hopes, dreams and fears into the diary over years of his life then gives it a part of his own soul. Fast forward and Ginny also pours her hopes, dreams and fears into the diary allowing it to try and develop a life of its own. An unintended self aware existence like the ford angelina. • @HexanTronic
    @HexanTronic 4 месяца назад +40

    To me, it feels like the Diary was more 'aware' than most of the other Horcruxes. That could be because of what it was, but either way, that begs the question. How conscious IS the Diary, and did it at all resent Voldemort for essentially 'trapping' it inside the dairy, and having it sealed away. It's like it was locked in a prison, but with little chance of a visitor. Going by that line of logic, it makes sense why it tried to make a body for itself. It probably wanted it's autonomy back.

    • @seankrake4776
      @seankrake4776 4 месяца назад +5

      I suspect that all of the horcruxes had the sentience, but only the diary had a good way of displaying it. We see the locket try to convince Ron to not destroy it, so maybe all of the horcruxes had this ability to intelligently react to the world around it. perhaps wearing the diadem would have had a similar effect where it allows Voldemort's soul to attempt to control you.
      I always interpreted that the diary instructed ginny to perform a resurrection spell/potion, since it was also able to instruct her to speak parseltongue. I personally don't think the diary did manifest its own body, I think it effectively Imperio'd Ginny into doing it for him, just that the spell or potion used was different than the one Wormtail used.

    • @Snidget-76
      @Snidget-76 4 месяца назад +2

      Yes, the more I think about it, the less "special" the Diary seems to be. It looks like all Horcruxes are conscious, and they contain a copy/snapshot of Voldemort's personality, the way he was at the time the Horcrux was made. It does not age or change. The Locket had Tom Riddle's *dark* eyes, not red, as though the entity living inside it was frozen in time and also quite independent from the real Voldemort.

    I would appreciate more of an explanation over how the soul portions are all always equal. Not to say it’s always 50/50 either. What if the ripped piece is a different size each time you kill you someone, dependent on how attached you were to the individual. Like, killing someone you truly love would result in the largest piece possible, and someone you didn’t know (or someone you wanted to kill) would result in the smallest possible piece breaking off.

    • @aisleelovegreenwood6448
      @aisleelovegreenwood6448 4 месяца назад +4

      So the way I look at it is that the soul is like a body of water with a shared consciousness: water can divide itself, be poured back into one source, and divide itself all over again. Now imagine that these pieces of soul are _unlike_ water in that they are not physical, and therefore do not conform to the laws of physics or size. They don't really _have_ a size at all, though if you need to picture them, imagine they are capable of growing or shrinking on their own. The consciousness is always evenly split between them because it is in all of them at once, and since they themselves do not have a size, they are the size of the consciousness, which is one thing rather than the seven things its split between.
      Is that confusing, or does it make sense? I know it's a bit abstract, lol, but souls themselves are abstract because they aren't physical constructs, so they don't work by the laws we're used to in the physical world.

    • @aisleelovegreenwood6448
      @aisleelovegreenwood6448 4 месяца назад +2

      Actually, let me just put it this way: if the act of "splitting" the soul takes a little bit from each piece to form the new one, then they'd always be the same size as each other, and each one would get smaller and smaller: less and less human as they were spread thin. First you'd be 50%/50%, then 33%/33%/33%, then 25%/25%/25%/25%, then 20%/20%/20%/20%/20%, etc.

    • @seankrake4776
      @seankrake4776 4 месяца назад +1

      @@aisleelovegreenwood6448 I don't think this part is true. I don't think a percentage of a soul tied to an object would jump from that object to a new one. I think your first idea is more on track.
      I think of it like having a single long chain, and a big anchor at the end of it. the chain (soul) never changes sizes, but when your soul splits, it breaks the anchor(vessel). You still have the same weight, but if that part of the anchor gets destroyed and removed from the chain, you lose the weight of it. while all portions of the anchor were attached, the chain was the same length, and overall had the same weight. it doesn't take half of the chain and connect one part to each half anchor, it just segmented the anchor that provides the weight to the chain. when any part of the anchor gets destroyed, it lessens the whole weight of the chain, and when all parts of the anchor have been removed, the chain no longer can grasp onto the seabed(the world of the living).

      we know the Diary had the ability to communicate via the ink.
      I suspect that even Harry's insane luck and abilities were that portion of voldemort's soul trying to protect the vessel.
      we know that Dumbledore gave into the call of the void and touched the ring, which may have been that portion of the soul trying to protect itself by tricking Albus into a deadly curse.
      we don't see much about the cup or the diadem. but I've got some ideas:
      we know the cup was with the party for a while. one thing I've always noticed is that Ron and Hermione act kinda strange during the battle for Hogwarts. Hermione is constantly remarking about how brilliant Ron is. we see Ron also complementing Hermione for her bravery and ability to deliver. maybe becasue the cup also had some magic from Helga, Voldemort's soul only had the ability to try to convince a person that their greatest qualities were actually much less than others, and we just don't get enough time to see it play out.
      We also don't see the diadem for very long. it doesn't seem to have any protective spells on it, but in the room of requirement, we see Crabbe uncharacteristically decide to do something of his own volition and cast fiendfyre. perhaps the diadem convinced Crabbe to attempt this very powerful spell in an attempt to defend itself. this one kinda fails because it is what ends up destroying it.

(Being killed by inferi tends to ruin interrogations.) Furthermore, as was pointed out, Voldemort cursed the ring so it would kill the wearer. It was only very fast action on Dumbledore and Snape's part that stopped Albus's death from being immediate.

    My thinking is that every Horcrux COULD become it's own person but only through very specific means. The intended function is as an anchor but each soul piece is still sentient and I imagine being trapped in an object is unpleasant. Knowing that the diary works by draining life force,I kinda feel like the ring's curse is how it comes back,by draining life force. The others I'm unsure of but I think it is,at least,theoretically possible for each Horcrux to become a Voldemort, even if it's not exactly practical

      I think it would be possible through the resurrection potion Voldemort used in book 4. I think it is made specifically to revive you from a Horcrux, and originally your Horcrux would be placed in it. Its multiplication effect was, however, never tested, as there is no point of using it before your body dies, and nobody before Voldemort had multiple Horcruxes.
      Through attachment, I'm not sure for most of them. Unlike an intelligent diary, the other objects are hard to attach to, unless the way you obtain them makes you so through memories, but they aren't supposed to be found and taken possession of.

    I think you should re-visit "The Fraction Theory" but this time remember that Tom learned about horcruxes and inquired about splitting the soul into seven peices as a student (in other words, before he made them) so instead of halving it each time Tom would have intentionally put 1/7th of his soul into each of the six horcruxs he intended to make, leaving the last 1/7th in his body. He will accidentally split this last 1/7th into two 1/14ths, one in harry and the other floating around in the albainian forrests or whatever.

      That's a good question honestly probably, he didn't mention it in this video but has in the past, but the reason the diary is so dangerous is because that part of Voldemort is the most Voldemort out of all the Voldemort like the piece of Tom is more Voldemort than Voldemort is there he probably would consider himself to be Voldemort prime, he's also the only one who technically could do the whole remorse thing since he's the first part of soul, but probably not still since he even back then didn't ever really feel remorseful, but if he could he'd be the one that could I think, because by the time you get to Voldemort prime there is so little humanity left inside of him that it's just not possible, I'm still a little bit confused about Tom Riddle piece of soul in the diary, but I think he is different from the other ones in that he could actually return and have a proper body because of how the hokcrocks was made

      @@AshleysAdviceSuch a good answer! I always thought the same thing. On the other hand, I don't think Diary-Voldemort would attemt other Horcruxes, since he would perhaps discover that his soul is in 7 pieces already (Prime, Diary, Ring, Cup, Diadem, Locket, and Harry). By killing Harry in the Chamber, I think, one Horcrux would recognize the other. Therefore no other Horcrux would be of need.
      The Diary-Horcrux is so special because it is a safe haven for that piece of soul and a sincere weapon on the other. Actually, Dumbledore mentions to Harry that this very feature tipped him of. Voldemort must have created more than one horcrux if he was willing to make a weapon out of one. Since the second book he tried to figure out how many were out there. The discussion starting around 13:45 seems questionable to me. You say that a mundane form of destruction, like breaking something in half, wouldn't destroy the horcrux because the object could be repaired. But if that's the case, wouldn't the broken pieces essentially act as separate horcruxes? Could you, for example, make a piece of paper into a horcrux, put it through a shredder, and then hide the individual shreds in many locations?

    I wonder what would happen, when you throw a horcrux through the Veil?
    Technically the horcrux is not destroyed, but on the other hand, that piece of soul entered the afterlife. So could you hide a working horcrux behind the veil where nobody can destroy it, or does the container get destroyed 'automatically'?

    • @aisleelovegreenwood6448
      @aisleelovegreenwood6448 4 месяца назад +1

      I guess to answer that question, we'd have to know what exactly happens to a person's body when a normal person goes through it. If it destroys their body, then I'd say it likely would destroy a horcrux (though potentially it still wouldn't be powerful enough to), but if somehow the body itself is just...brought with you into the afterlife...? Idk, it's honestly really weird to imagine that, but it would be our best indicator if we could at least have that information. Though again, it might still work differently on a horcrux container than a body. Like, what would happen to a normal locket or cup if it was thrown through the veil? I'm sure someone's done that, though they likely never found out what happened to it on the other side. I think if Dumbledore had a talk with Sirius, he could come up with a pretty good theory, lol, but we can't exactly ask either of them, now can we?😂
      Gosh, now I'm just thinking about Dumbledore finally getting so many of his questions answered.

It was put in chains, so to speak. I suppose it would depend on whether the diary itself would have been destroyed when Tom came back to life. If it was still in tact, if he was still linked to it, then he would still be an anchor for the other Voldemort. If him becoming fully alive would have severed his tie to it, perhaps that would have broken the bond that made him the other's horcrux! Ooh, this is really interesting. I honestly can't say whether he would have been freed from his bondage. Would it be broken by the sacrifice of Ginny's life? The taking of a life was what it took to bind him, could another be the key to setting him free?

Like if someone were to successfully Avada Kedavra Voldemort prime then he would die but consume one of the Horcrux's, using up a "life" and then return to life anew. I always thought Dumbledore could duel Voldemort eight times and if he killed him eight times then that would use up all of Voldemort's horcrux's.
    Now I understand that each individual horcrux prevents Voldemort from dying which is why it was so important to hunt them all down before the final confrontation. Dumbledore could kill Voldemort over and over and he would always come back as long as there was one horcrux. Blowing my mind. Thanks SuperCarlinBrothers!

    I'm surprised there has not been a video on how owl mail delivery works. How do they know where to go without an address (aka to Sirius) and why doesn't the ministery just send an owl to him and follow it to catch him. Also do they fly faster than an average owl? So many questions.

    I don't think the diary could have come back at, it only thought that it could. That particular horcrux was created when Tom Riddle had just learned about them, so it would be reasonable that being able to become a new Voldemort was just an assumption or him misunderstanding how it worked.

    More questions:
    -What exactly is a untethered soul? (a whole one)
    -And in contrast what would Voldemorts 1/7 part soul look/feel like. I had to be somewhat tangible to interact and posess others (animals, quirrel) right?
    -If the lose soul fragment came in contact with a Horcrux, what if anything would happen?
    -And the opposite, if it came near or close to a pure light magic object, would it be dispelled?
    (I am imaginen Voldemorts lose soul floating around just dodging people in love out of fear)
    -How does a posession work? Is it charmed, a spell, or like A song of ice and fire, a fierce battle in the mind.?
    -Could it be used like a tool? A super spy master, makes a horcrux, kills himself eiher permanently or for a while, floats around and spies on people, then returns to life when it has absorbed the info it needed. I can imagine dark lords blackmailing people into doing this if it worked like that.
    -Can Voldemorts soul ever move on, like you said, it would be extremely painful to feel the remorse, hence the fetal position in Kings Cross, but what happens, when he has felt it all at some point, like a thousand years later. Will the soul be redeemed?

    The thing that always confused me is if the process of making a horcrux is supposedly so disturbing and gross that it actually made Rowling’s editor sick, then how was it possible that Harry could even become an accidental horcrux? Was the ritual done before the actual murder?

      By that point, Voldemort had mangled, twisted, and ripped his soul so much that it had become fragile, causing a piece to just randomly break off and attach to the nearest living thing it could find, that thing being Harry.

    • @srayj
      @srayj 4 месяца назад

      @@AustynSN I guess that makes sense. But I also find it kind of strange that up until that point, every horcrux he made was an inanimate object, yet this piece of his soul automatically attached to the nearest living thing it could find. I guess I just feel like for it essentially being the cornerstone of the entire series, there seem to be questions about the how and why that weren’t given a thorough explanation.

    Hi :) I was wondering something.
    At the moment I'm reading Deathly Hallows to my son (10) and we vere discussing why the order went with the 7 Potters plan.
    I know the minestry had preventet anyone from connecting Privet Drive to the floo network, from setting up a portkey or apperating.
    But wouldn't it have been more efficient if they had just used polyjuice potion to disguise a few senior ordermembers as random muggles. Hidden Harry under the invisibility cloak and walked with him to some kind of public transportation that would take them to London - or to somewhere that the COULD have set up a portkey?
    I know... plot reasons... but in-world... why didn't they use the cloak and get him away from there discreetly?

    So first question: how did avada kedavra kill voldemort (in the baby incident i mean). isnt quite different to kill him with a sword? i always thought avada kedavra does nothing to the body. so... i always image like just severing the link between body and soul. if the soul isnt there to begin.. its in an horocrux for example... does it kill you really? Just a train of thought that i would love you to continue ...
    and not related question: Did Edward Elric make an horocrux for his brother Alfonse anchoring his soul to the armor? i think he technally check all the marks. (they somehow kill the homonculus they made of the attempt of reviving there mother). what do you think?

    In the video you say voldemort prime would fight and try to kill the diary. So if he succeeded in killing the diary would the diary be able to come back to life with the other horcruxes. Also would the diary hocrux be destroyed when he came back because that part of the soul was used to revive tom riddle? so would there be an infinite war between the 2 voldemorts?

    Alright I do have a question about this, but I think I already know the answer.
    What if the trio had tried to throw a horcrux through the vail? Would it have been able to separate the soul from the container? Or would it just pass through to the other side unaffected? I'm leaning towards the later but you never know... thanks guy!!

  • @Idorazan

    I have a question..., one that I might have asked previously on Patreon.
    Is it possible that Moldevort's soul is still around, because Hermione duplicated the locked during the trio's infiltration on the ministry?
    The reason for this question because of the attack on Gringotts.
    The treasure in the Bellatrix's vault keeps continually replicating, so could the horcrux enchantment on the duplicated locket also have been copied over?

    Hey Brother! Since the Ballad movie released, I’ve been commenting for a theory idea on almost every video. I want you to use theories and geography and science and stuff, and use the official Hunger Games map, to determine once and for all, when the Hunger Games take place. (And something tells me it’s a lot further than 2313) It’s a lot, but the entire fandom is counting on you. And may the odds be *ever* in your favor!

    Thank you so much for this sorting!!! Now I get how thy work :) I've even wrote to you about it.
    I've never got the point of many Horcuxes. However, I've never understood the number 7. Is it 7 Horcruxes or a 7 parts of soul? -.-' It doesn't get clear in the books, i feel. Neither in my translation of the books, nor in the british original I've read.
    Futhermore, I think it's realy so that your soul is split by murder. Not necesaryly split in half though. I think Dumbledore once stated that splitting his soul in so many parts is in fact what makes Voldemort so little human.

    • @aisleelovegreenwood6448
      @aisleelovegreenwood6448 4 месяца назад +1

      So I believe the answer is 7 horcruxes plus the bit of him that was a wandering spirit, so 8 pieces of soul in total? The point of multiple horcruxes is just so that even if someone finds one or three or five of them, they still won't have found them all, and so you're still safe. The more you have, the better your chances that one will still be around when you need to be brought back. It'll take a person longer to find them all and destroy them, especially if they have no idea how many there are, or _what_ they are. Knowing _one_ doesn't tell you much about the others. You might recognize a them, but lots of items out there might fit that theme even if you do figure it out, and there's still the matter of _finding_ each of them. You might suspect it's Ravenclaw's lost diadem, but if you can't find it, it doesn't matter that you found all the others. He'll still come back, and keep coming back, because one evaded detection. Each one you have improves your chances.

    Listening to this, I think your next What If should be, what if the diary Horcrux did successfully come back. See how that would have changed things in year 3 and on and if it would have altered Voldemort’s resurrection plans. Be cool to imagine two Voldemorts around that want to accomplish their goal but get rid of the other. And would it result in warring factions of death eaters each following the different Voldemorts?
