It’s sometimes great to cry! When it comes let it go! I haven’t cried in 7 years and know that it would have made me feel better if I did. The last time I cried was at my grandmother’s burial until now I didn’t cry although I went through lots of bad things in my life (really bad skiing accident), had to retake a year in university because I suffered from a small depression after all this shit happened. I changed my life and habits but I still have a long way to go! Keep working on yourself bro and don’t be scared to ask for help when it’s getting tough. I wish you all the best!

A lot of men are deeply traumatized from unhealthy childhood family dynamics and need most of their adulthood to unpack it and heal from it if they even gain awareness of it. If you don’t gain awareness of it and heal it from within, you will perpetuate the abuse that was inflicted on you when you couldn’t defend yourself. Don’t feel bad for being a man, just take full responsibility for your actions and their consequences. You must live and love authentically and let go of the fear of loss that compels you to lie or hide.

    • @DreamScorcher
      @DreamScorcher 5 лет назад +5

Love your comment. It's lack of education and understanding that makes people never accept that they have something wrong about themselves that prevents them from healing themselves and hence the trauma continues through generations.

Hi 👋 I’m 17 years old and I’m going through a lot. I didn’t want the internet to know this but I need more motivation lots of people motivate me and it seems like it isn’t working. I have depression and it’s sad I’m not going to school which is the worst thing you could do. I used to play baseball a year ago and left it, feel like depression took over. And everything I do I feel like not doing it. I also feel extremely bad when I’m in the house or outside because I don’t have my depression peels. Please help me. I feel like if I overcome this mentality killer I would find my future and succeed. It’s really hard especially for my age and any feedbacks are gladly appreciated.

    • @kierandickerson4553

Vegeta SAN coming out of depression can be difficult. If anything you need to find something you love doing if it’s baseball focus yourself into that find a hobby, something that excites you and do it. Eating, exercising and sleep can really help you to feel better even if you start off slow just 30 minutes a day can be great for your mental health. Lastly something I have found major benefit in stabilising my mood and not getting too low is nofap sounds strange but this can really effect your hormones and mood. Lastly caffeine can effect your anxiety and can make you more anxious and obviously stay away from alcohol. I would say try coming off the meds allow yourself to overcome these emotions, talk to people you trust about how you feel. Lastly time is a healer it won’t happen overnight but putting good habits into place can build your resilience snap out of he depression cycle and hopefully not return. If you read this, I wish you the best of luck and hope you overcome this, take care. :)

But don’t worry I’m not backing down that easily😁 I’m attending school more and doing exercise. Also I have been going out more and been watching a bunch of motivation videos which has helped me a lot. And I think I know what I want to do for my future. Thank you for everything really appreciate it. GOD BLESS YOU🙏🏽 And I will take on all your advice. Once again thx🙏🏽

Vegeta SAN that’s great I’m pleased you’ve already implemented some of these that help me too. We are social creatures so getting out and talking to people and socialising is very important, isolation and loneliness is the worst as your with your own thoughts. Same with school or work keeping yourself busy can sometimes be the best thing. If you ever need a chat, feel free I’m here man :)

Wow, is about time some said this things. When i lost my daughter, people told me that my wife had more right to grief than i did so i should forget my pain and "be there for her", when all i really wanted to do was sit in corner and cry.
The world is so confusing for men these days. So much Flipping expectations from everyone around us.
Wife expectations, mother expectations living up to dads idea of what a man should be.
Having to be chivalrous all the fucking time is so tiring. Dealing with a partner that believes her issues are more important than yours
The fear of being called lazy. The fear of walking away from a marriage that some of us hate because we don't want to be known as the "father that walked out" or "see our kids hurt".
Every fucking thing is a mans fault.
And who the fuck decided what it means to be a "real man" anyway.
I cant even talk about my issues without it devolving into a "gender slug-fest", it always ends with "Women have it worse". Rather than viewing every fucking thing trough the gender lens, how about we view everything through the humanize lens. If a person is hurting (Man or Woman) just help that person. Don't wait until he or she becomes suicidal before their issues become important.

I just watched this guy on JRE yesterday, what a coincidence! Opening up about my Mental Health has been very hard but has helped me a lot to hear other people are going through the same thing and wanted to share it as well but were to afraid to mention it. Men aren't really allowed to be depressed or anxious in our society but that's not fair. Its very humbling when you see how many men have mental health issues and we're not as alone as we may think we are.

As a young Male Therapist I see how important it is to speak about things, Its so vital and important that us MEN talk about mental health.. And for us men, we prefer mostly to talk to another dude. I hope I can take away that stigma and shame we carry about opening up through my channel. But, I just wanna say Matt, great piece of content very pleased this is a discussion becoming more common and not hidden away.
Guys we need to not be ashamed, we have so much pressure and hate from all directions. Lets use Counselling as a source of self development and not see it as a sign of weakness.

I can feel fine in a group of friends obviously. But I’ve never been comfortable around girls, now this is coming from a guy who had no mother and was thrown Into boys only schools since 10, so u can understand why I wouldn’t be comfortable.

I think Dan's mission at "Evryman" is super interesting. As a gay man, I feel like I see both worlds. I have my "gay" world but often hangout with my straight guys. Often, when hanging with this group, I see this group's disconnect for sharing emotions. I see how it hurts their relationships. Society has constructed this group to suppress their feelings, making it harder to be vulnerable. I totally agree with Dan, sharing is like a practice. Tying it back to how I'm labeled as gay, I feel like it's more the norm for me to share/show emotion. Just wanted to share, since I feel like I have the pleasure of seeing the world from a bit of a different lens. Great job Dan and Matt!

    This is an amazing podcast!
My father has experienced so much pain throughout his life that no amount of medication or alcohol has been able to keep him numb. It destroys me to see him struggle to find a purpose to live, and I'm overwhelmed by a deep sense of hopelessness that he might attempt suicide again. I've been searching for ways to help him, help himself; but there seems to be few books or resources out there that acknowledge the true emotional needs of a grown man or offers sound advice and affective help.
I'm going to share this podcast with my dad and I hope that he will be receptive to what it offers.

Hey Matt, if you have time (I know you are v busy) you could consider editing together the highlights of all your previous episodes and call them Espresso Episodes or something haha! That way you can upload all your original previous content to the new Ground Up channel. But mainly, it would be good because I subscribed to you after you had already made 70 episodes and although I don't have heaps of time to go watch them all, I would love to see highlights of them in 70 different episodes. It could also be good for you because you can get content on the channel without production-time-investment only editing time. Probs could help your algorithm with uploads, plus the newer subscribers won't have seen the content yet, like me. Would love highlights!! Love from Melb, Australia

This was amazing. I love that, without being a filmmaker, a digital artist, musician or a guy in this industry or some awesome motivational mentor, I as a female hairstylist can take away a monumental amount of information and inspiration from your podcasts and the amazing people who have arrived to share this knowledge. Thank you, Matt.

Hi Matt, Life goes smoothly and clam. Clearly organized and meaningful but some times in life. We all have this sleepless nights with lots of thoughts running inside our mind. We really don't want it but sadly we can't control it. Everything seems to be very meaningless. We sit in search for answer, solutions, ways but we could not do anything about it. Not just sleepless nights but even the unproductive day time. We try to concentrate on present works but our mind keeps on jumping from this and that thoughts. May be one particular things or about your desire, past love stories, vision, goals, business name for company, humanity, speculation, society, health, color for designing logo, even about sleeping and waking up. These are all stuff running in my mind. Noted I generally don't have these kind of cluttered mind. Some times it happens like now.
Why this disconnect happens inbetween our minds?
How to put our thought, words and actions in one clean straight line?

This video reminded me of how some of us run from our problems and even our emotions when its not healthy. A lot of us run from self disclosure because really it is scary to disclose and at times its a lot easier to just let it fester and not do anything about it.

Alec Butler Seeing your comment made me think about those who use drugs or alcohol to numb their feelings/emotions. I myself am not a user or addict, but I do try to hold compassion for those who have been down that road. Life isn’t easy, especially if you bring mental illness into the mix as it heightens your emotional state sometimes

I find this so fascinating from “the other side”, because I definitely see that there are massive relational problems between men, and I definitely experience it in terms of friendships (though many of those barriers are starting to break, thanks to working things out a little), but I have never in my entire life had a moment in time when I wasn’t open to my parents. I am a completely open book to them, and they know just about every little thing about me.
It’s fascinating because it makes me wonder, what are American men experiencing in their homes? What unnecessary emotional hardship and pain, what emotional bottling are they experiencing? To what degree can I help? And to what degree am I restrained from helping because of my lack of experience, having not entirely walked in their shoes?

Matt, you probably know this already, but that link to ground up show is not working. This was a great podcast. I found camaraderie in a men's chorus when I moved (at 52) to a new town half-way across the world. There's a special magic to work with a diverse group of men towards a common goal, in my case an artistic expression. Keep up the great work!
