  • I was extremely fortunate to receive some awesome prizes from winning the Great Guitar Build Off 2022 scratch build category. In this video I use a Radian Tools surfacing router cutter to thickness some fretboards for two upcoming guitar builds.

Looks like the router bit worked very well I guess the true test is how well it will hold up over time. So far so good. Best of luck and stay safe and healthy.

Lovely piece of rosewood, it has a beautiful tinge of purple through it, and the grain is enhanced so well. Now that your our current champion you need to produce the goods mate, to be fair though who in the guitar world doesn't d your vids. Great review mate.

Thanks Jurgs. Very unexpected colouring. Looking forward to starting the next builds soon.

Hey brother. You guys have some of the most beautiful wood there! That Black Bean is so lovely! Nice video too. I've got that bit but it's waiting on me to build the sled! ✌️

Hi Todd. We certainly have a good selection of fancy stuff that you mightn’t be able to get elsewhere! I’m sure you’ll be pleased with the router bit when you get a sled made.

So I use the Freud 16-523 1-1/4-by-1/2-Inch Top Bearing Mortising-Dado Router Bit, got it from the Amazonians. Works a charm, basically the same-same, but different bit. 😎
Do you have a video showing your sled build? I'd like to see that.

Sounds like you’ve got it sorted with that bit. Built the sled before I was on RUclips I’m afraid, but will probably do a video when I make version 2 at some stage.

So glad you’ve made this video I’ve had one in my drawer for a couple of years unused want to make a router sled but never got round to it

I’m glad I’ve got it. Will save so much time compared to the smaller router bits I previously used for thicknessing on the router sled.

Thanks for the video, but you could have chosen different angles/lighting to show the flatness.

The lighting is determined by the sun I’m afraid. Tried to show the smooth finish, rather than the ‘flatness’ as such.
