This is going to be my first oil change by myself. Never paying 70 to 100 again. Thank you so much. I’m actually proud of myself.
Awesome! So glad my video helped.
Saved me 80 bucks from these crooks. Thanks!
No worries Ben. Always good to do your own oil change.
That’s not a lot of money at all and they’d do it better and faster than you
Crooks lol
$80 but after buying oil and filter tools and ramps and washer fluid they were actually saving you money 😅
@@benm5651just spent less than $50 for all of it so no they’re taxing lol
Thank you for this most informative video. I know it is cheaper to do it myself, but took it to the dealer. Now I get pressured to align, filters, tranny oil, radiator drain and replace. 44,000 miles. I can do most of this myself.
One of the best DIY oil change videos I've ever watched. Thank you!
Wow, thank you! Glad my video helped.
Definitely a great job explaining everything you need to know for the oil change! My wife just got the same sonata and I'm glad I came across your video so I don't mess anything up!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
This is a great video! I've changed oil in cars a bunch but I'm about to change it in a 'sonata for the first time. This is perfect! Also, the cleanest oil change I have ever seen! Great skills. Thank you!
Glad it helped! Thank you for the visit.
Thank you. Very clear instructions. I've changed oil a hundred times but never on my Sonata.
You're welcome Kurt. Glad my video could help.
Great video. Really nice editing! Great video and clear audio make it really helpful. Also, I especially liked the little "pro" tips you give - listing the socket sizes, duck tape to help get the filter off, putting oil on the gasket of the oil filter, and most of all, only HAND TIGHTENING the oil filter. I once had an oil filter someone put on so tight it took me three days to get it off! Again, really nice job on the video. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful Chris. Yes I've seen video of people tightening the oil plug with an air gun. That's crazy. Also know a friend that brought their car to a well know store that does oil change & they put the wrong oil filter & their car almost stalled on the highway & caused an accident. I hate those places.
those darn dealership mechanics
This video is amazing. At a great pace. Good camera work. Clear and to the point. Music is nice and overbearing. Explaining clear for beginners. You've made a wonderful tutorial, well done!
Wow, thanks! And thanks for watching.
Thank you for this. super helpful for my 2019 Sonata!!
I used to change the oil myself. Now I have a shop do it. Today I was surprised at Take 5 oil change when they used a impact wrench under the car AFTER changing the oil. I did not know about that cover under the engine. Thanks for answering that question!
Yes I don't like that at all when they use an impact wrench. My neighbour's daughter had her oil plug stripped last year because of that also. I helped him remove & install a new plug.
Thank you so much, Jonah. ☺ I'm going to do this today, or tomorrow if I don't have enough daylight.
@@Kai...999 awesome Kai. You can do it.
Thanks for the video. If able, always best to do it yourself. When i first got my sonata, i always have the dealership do my oil changes. Unfortunately, sometimes they forget to replace the cover. By the time i realized it was missing, it was too late and they didn’t want to replace it.
Very true! Better to do it yourself for sure.
Like your video the way you described everything is really simple to the point and you're covering all
I appreciate that! Thanks for the visit.
I have one of those 2017 Sonata’s with a defective engine. I burn a gallon of oil every 2000 miles. Nice job Hyundai!
Thank you so much. Sorry to hear about the defective engine. I feel so ripped off when that happens.
They replaced my engine and turbo when it finally blew… but I had to pay for the wheel axle which was 900. Which I think went bad when motor locked up.. but everything else was free and I had 119,000 miles on car. I think someone won a lawsuit so they have to fix it.
@@srt_traplive4912 Now my “check engine light” is on because the head gasket is damaged due to leaking oil. Car’s running great but next July I’m calling up Hyundai because I don’t think I can pass my annual inspection.
@@srt_traplive4912yup I didn’t think there were but replaced mine as well at 108,000
My mom's is defective too. Anyone can break in& it not the model with the ability to have safety upgraded
Nice and easy. A bit simpler than my 06 volvo i had
Good camera work
Thank you so much 😀
VERY good and clear instructions. GG
Thank you, Much appreciated!
Gracias Migo, simple Video and plain !
You're welcome my friend. Thank you for the visit.
Great video! I'mgoing to try it this weekend, wish me luck! BTW, can you leave the cover off, it seems to be very annoying
taking it on & off.
Yes you can do it but there's a small chance rocks & stones will hit parts of the under carriage including oil pan & filter. I know it's annoying.
ty so much...
believe I will start changing my oil and filter on 2015 Sonata
Good luck. I hope my video helps.
@@jonahvlogsdiy4143 ❤️
Thank for the video and explanation.
I thought you missed to pour engine oil in OIL filter
I don't like to do that because I have dropped the filter a few times, & that's a big mess. I don't believe it damages the engine with that 1-2 sec no oil in the filter since there is still oil residue if you change it quickly. If you leave it empty for a long time, I may consider it.
Thank you so much buying a car soon and I didn’t know what I was doing 😢
Happy to help!
Super helpful thanks !
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for the visit
Thank you so much.
You're welcome. So glad my video could help.
Nice job, thank you.
No problem. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic content 👌 👏 👍
Thank you so much 👍
My cousin has the same car, I'm watching this so I can chnage it for her before she goes to college.
Awesome! Glad my video could help.
Good job dude
Thanks bro.Hope it helped you out.
Excellent!
Thank you.
Appreciate the video. Aren't you supposed to prefill the filter?
You could if you want, but have butter fingers. There's a good chance I will spill it. lol
Somebody help me figure out what the clamp thing that holds the hood up is called please. It’s like a lil thing you screw on the bar on the side.
You mean Hood Strut Clamp?
came in clutch my boy
Awesome!
I just recently started changing the oil in my 2017 Sonata on my own. Do you know what the part number of those bolts and plastic washers are?
Sorry I don't but if you call the dealership, they would know.
Would anyone happen to know the approach angle for a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Sport?
all that plastic. I see you jacked it up on the side of the car. Is there anyplace safe you can use a jack on the front of the car to jack it up so you then can place the other jacks on each side of the car?
Thanks for the video man
No problem 👍 Thanks for the visit.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it. thanks for the visit Aaron.
Just a little side note. Motor oil with the dexos additive are for fm cars and even then there is some contention as to whether or not it should even be used for those applications??? I wouldn't put that in your car
Thank you. Good advice.
When checking oil have the car level NOT STILL ON THE RAMPS. Otherwise you will get the WRONG oil level reading.
Yes you can check while on the ramp but you have to check again when you bring the car down.
If it's on ramps, you need to put some oil in the car to drive it off the ramps anyway. Then top it off
when level
Brother he literally said that after he checked it lol
Ty great video
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
What do we call those covers underneath the car ?
You mean under carriage cover?
@@jonahvlogsdiy4143 I guess, I came out from the garage and saw the cover fell off after driving 20 miles. Now thinking of changing on own.
Great idea. You can do it. Let me know how it turns out.
That’s for help brother
No problem.
Thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for the visit.
What are some reason my check engine light could be on for ?
You can buy an inexpensive code reader to check what the red light is. Check out my next video how to use a code reader.
If you changed the oil recently it could be too much oil splashing.
Start engine before checking dipstick
The "Cover" isn't stock...this is an aftermarket cover with access to oil filter and drain. Stock is not as simple as it's got 10+ fasteners. The issue I has and why I was looking is to replace these as when I went to change my oil I found MOST were missing from prior shoddy work. So I bought a cover like the one seen here; only I also looked here for the fastener info = missing.
I think it may be different for Korea made ones vs US. Mine is like this one.
You are absolutely right. It is an aftermarket cover. Where did you buy yours? I also bought an aftermarket but it’s a whole piece and have little compartments and it’s a bit off from the oil pan and filter. So, it’s better to remove the whole cover. Please lmk where you got yours. Appreciate it!!!
Can you do this one for coolant flush?!
Sorry.. no longer have the car.
@@jonahvlogsdiy4143 FUCK
I just got 2017 Hyundai sonata sport it is bad if I use 5w30?
Great question. I always suggest the factory recommended of 5W20. Since the 5W30 is a thicker oil & is slower to reach the engine parts.
Yes. Your car has specific tolerances. Change it back asap.
@@reevesjustin I talked to a mechanic and he said is good

Great video,, Any benefit to adding fresh oil in the new filter? Any reason not to punch a hole in the old filter to drain oil prior to removing the the lossened filter. Important to loosen prior to punching or drilling a hole., The duct tape is a great tip.
I don't add fresh oil to the new filter before installing because I've dropped the the new filter while installing a few times & that would just make a big mess when spilled. I don't punch a hole again because of the possible mess it creates when oil shirts out of the hole, you can't predict the distance the oil lands. The duct tape has helped me out many times also. Thanks for the visit.
@@jonahvlogsdiy4143 Manufacturers don't recommend pre-filling filters because it is possible to get trash on the clean side of the filter allowing it to get into the bearings!
@@wallychambe1587 That makes sense. Thanks for sharing Wally.
how do I dispose of the oil?
Great question. In Windsor Canada we leave it out in our driveway every second Friday & The City picks it up. In Tampa Florida you have to bring it your nearest Auto Zone or parts store.
pour it on the ground
The guys at the shop stripped my oil plug and threads aaand now want me to pay $600 to replace the whole tank.
Wow that's crazy. I always do my own oil change because of that reason. They get lazy and use power tools to tight the plug sometimes. Sorry to hear that.
Can you post a diy aliment video please
Sorry don't have the car anymore.
I’m watching these Firestone mechanics doing oil change on my 2015 Hyundai Sonata ECO~
And they didn’t fully remove the cover…. Now I’m worried if they even change the oil filter ….
I understand the feeling. I bet you can do a better job than them.
Umm nevermind 😂
I do get annoyed trying to locate that little lever!
Yes very annoying for sure.
Don't DIY oil change a Hyundai Theta engine .... WHEN the engine blows Hyundai will deny your warranty claim unless you can provide oil change receipts.
You should be confident & do your research when you DIY an oil change.
@@jonahvlogsdiy4143he's right I just went through this engines are trash oil leaks into the exhaust burns smoke mine blew a rod they needed records of all oil changes to get a new engine luckily I went through another dealership and they determined it was their fault
