It's Canada - this is off the Fogarty's Cove album, Fogarty cove is in Nova Scotia. It's about the commercialization of fishing and the way it resulted in limits being placed on the fish they traditionally had caught and the only way to make a living is by catching small fish that are popular in Japan but seen as garbage in the Maritimes.
This was lovely, I loved the seafaring songs of old, you end up feeling nostalgic for times you never even knew. Wonderful. For something truly different from an amazing artist you might try 'Asaf Avidan - In A Box III - 900 Days', truly an original. And more contemporary, Ren, 'HI REN for a psychological trip with a Zen message at the very end.
I think Stan Rogers’ songs 45 Years and Lock-Keeper are two of the best love song of all time. And if you check out the album For The Family, which is technically under his son Garnet’s name for political reasons, his cover of Three Fishers is a masterpiece!
The town he describes in the song could well be Port Dover in Ontario, Canada. The song has a definite Maritime sound to it in spite of be about fishermen on the Great Lakes.
Actually, Stan died in an Air Canada fire back in 1983. It's great that you found him. He's one of the greatest Canadian singer-songwriters of all time. Another wonderful Canadian singer is Lennie Gallant.
Glad you enjoyed Stan. He was one of my country’s (Canada) greatest treasures. Taken from us far too soon.
As a londoner who has never been to Canada, Stan is one of my favorite artists.

Died a hero too, trying to save other passengers.
