When you burn out those bushings, use MAP gas and get the flame going real hot. Eventually it will stay on fire and burn out. Repeat on the other side(like...the bottom)...after the flame burns out, while the rubber is still hot, put pressure on the center metal piece and it will just push out. Then do one more burn cycle on the all the rubber left in there and you should be able to scrap it out. Finally, and air hammer to remove the metal casing. STILL a lot of work! But took me 2 hours instead of 2 days.

Those OEM bushings look a lot like the rear bushings in the lower control arms on my Mk4 Jetta. They were a pain to remove too, but weren't left in for 3 decades like yours, so the metal outer ring was much more malleable, and just caught and folded in toward the center of the hole with just chisel and hammer.
Be glad that you slogged through this -- chances are you won't be changing those new bushings for a decade or two. Once it's done, it's done!

This is great! I enjoy watching your videos and happen to have an FC myself. Looking forward to seeing what you do in the future.

How did you get the new ones in and how tight of a fit were they? Your video was the key I needed to getting the old ones out, but now the new delrin ones are turning out to be a tighter fit than I was expecting. I replaced the differential subframe bushings at the same time also with delrin and those ones slipped in by hand with almost no effort.

Getting the diff out of an FC is a crummy job! Wish they would have made it easier but if you have out might as well replace everything at once! Cool build!

It's not bad imo. I disconnected the driveshaft and dropped the entire subframe in about 30 minutes. From there it takes 5-10 minutes to get the diff separated from the whole assembly. The bushings do suck to get out though.
Contrasting to my brothers e36, which took about 4 hours to drop out the whole rear subframe/suspension. That was with things going smoothly!

Hi, nice video! Where did you get your bushings from?
