Ah, brings back memories. I had a used FC when I was in college, an 86 N/A. I loved that little thing, learned manual on that, and had a ton of fun. I drove back and forth from NC to Chicago multiple times and from NC to Cali once. Did the N/As have a particularly weak transmission? I remember on a trip back to NC from Chicago, a couple of hours before arriving at home, 5th gear broke, so I drove over a hundred miles on the freeway with just 4 gears. The car was totally stock, not that anyone had any performance parts for it back in the early 90's. I remember it cost a bit over a grand to fix the transmission.

I had one. It was awesome. I loved that Mazda said, "Nope, we're not making an automatic transmission one of these. This car is for drivers only." Back when I had one in the late 80's, early 90's though, we did not have the internet. The terminology "FC" was not something I was familiar with. Mine was upgraded with a "high-flow" intake, and an HKS exhaust system. Back then HKS would sell directly to the public, and I have the catalog from 1991 to prove it. I clocked a 14.2 quarter mile in mine, which was pretty solid for the time period.
I had an 87 turbo II with HKS/Racing Beat (250+HP) parts years ago, I loved that car to death. Still miss it years later...
I know it's not a big difference, but I think an fc with the hood scoop and spoiler is one of the best looking cars ever, but if you take those away it looks really off putting.
Add a front splitter and you have my dream car
i personally like the wide body on the fc as well it makes it look way nicer in my opinion. but without any of that it looks so off putting

I drive a red turboII in HS. I had a lot of fun and miss it. Sadly after the coolant started mixing with the oil I traded it in. I think it was a cracked coolant passage seeping into the oilpan.
Is that what made it smoke?, i had the chance to buy one back in 1997, in SC a 1991 Purple Mazda Rx-7 GTU convertible w/blk top Turbo ed. 5 spd. it had a hood scoop and a gold wheel half spoke trim package, at the time i knew it was a very special type because all the rest i've seen were not like that, but i was also on the fence of getting a 1991.5 Honda Accord Ex sedan on the same day, what made me go with the Honda as i really like that turbo GTU style Rx-7, was when the dealer cranked it up and it was steadily smoking and i was upset as i really wanted the car and he thought that he was going to hussle me.
This is my dream car anythinggg I should know if i ever get one

Just found out that my 1990 RX7 FC is GTUs with all kinds of factory goods....Plus a Full complete set of 17x8F/9R Mazdaspeed/Ray's Engineering MS01-LMs(LeMans) 2-piece Magnesium wheels but I really enjoyed the video just wish you would have included a little more information on those rare and hard-to-find RX7 FC's

Yes I will eventually. I just don't have footage of a GSL-SE or the the turbo 12a from japan. These videos are really made on what cars I can film.
@@ShootingCars Oh ok that explains it because i have seen a turbo GTU convertible type here in the states back in 1997, as i was going to buy one in SC where i lived not far from the beach, a 1991 purple Mazda Rx-7 GTU turbo 5 spd. convertible w/blk targa style top and it sported that magnificent hood scoop and also came with the factory half spoke gold wheel trim package, i was sold i wanted it more than anything else and at the time i really was going for an Honda Accord Ex sedan, but when i seen that GTU with all that goodness i had to have it as i had never seen one like it before, i seen many other Rx-7 hard tops but i knew this one was rare!....yeah for only $7k, i knew something wasn't right so when the dealer brought out the keys and started the car it smoked steadily and i was upset and went with the Honda, as i knew either it was turbo, or bad heads.

I have a 1989 GTUs with 77,000 miles. I never hear you say anything about them, as if they none were made.
I'm kinda sad that the FC only has 5-Speed MT but can you modify the clutch and gearbox tho(I don't want to sound like a noob)

Almost bought an rx7 but bought my Miata because the guy sold it before I got to him
I ended up buying a new brz. Wanted something sporty i could mod in the long run. There was a really clean S5 turbo 2 for sale at 6.5k CAD with a brand new rebuild. But I needed something that didnt require a garage.... Plus that warranty
I've had a few miatas and almost traded them for FCs but it always was gonna be a daily and I was scared, now I have two cars and might trade my Miata for an FC
