Man, I could hug you too for the info you provide here, except that I don't know if this will solve my instance of the P0456 code yet. I'll check those damn hoses as soon as I get home, and if they happen to be screwed, I will definitely hug you when I see you. In the meantime, I don't know if you are a mechanic or not, but sharing your info for the DIY community gets you my full respect. I hope more people in the world was like you, it would be a much prettier world to live in. Thanks man
My husbands engine light just came on today with the P0456 code. Thanks to this video he knows what to look at and look for. Thank you so very much for sharing these videos. They really do help people alot. Especially with everything that is going on in today and money so tight. Thank you again 😊
You're awesome! I've looked everywhere for the fix to the P0440 code. I was just about to go ahead and purchase the evap canister (mine has a small crack), when I ran across your video. I checked all of the other things you mentioned, and found that after removing/testing/cleaning my purge valve, it has fixed the error code. Thanks! You just saved me $200. Easy fix.
Thank you king. The small pipe off the evap canister was all jacked up. Getting a new one tomorrow! For those looking for the canister: it's near the middle of the car on the drivers side.
This needs more views! Looked in that exact spot and wouldn’t you know the hose was all cracked and rotting out. Did a visual inspection on the hose from the front of the car all they way back and that was the only place where is was cracked right above the charcoal canister. In my area the dealerships did not have the part in stock (52102793aa) but I ended up going to advance auto and grabbing some 5/8 rubber hose and they worked just fine. About 14inches of 5/8 hose and used metal hose clamps as well to hold them in. Code P0440 is gone and truck is running fine. Thank you sir.
Saw your video, looked under my truck and the hose was literally hanging on one end of the charcoal canister. Both ends were split and I was just about to lose the hose while driving. Tonight, I'm going to pick up a new one. Hopefully it clears the codes. Thanks!
Bought the 2018 Ram Bighorn 4WD used last week. Put 250 miles on it and truck shut down after remote start twice and suddenly had this code. Truck is from the deep south gulf coast area. Thanks for the video
I have a 2013 Ram 1500. I got the code P0456, bought an after market gas cap, didn't fix the code. Then, just paid $89.95 plus tax to have my garage diagnosis. I new OEM gas cap and the code is fixed. Learning the hard way!
I just bought a 2003 Dodge ram 5.7 Was is getting the same two codes And one hose has two rips in it as long as my pinky man you save me some money thank you
This is the second time I’ve had an issue with that code. The first time was at hose. I couldn’t remember which one it was until watching your video. Thank you for the reminder. Seems they last about 10 years. I live in Southern California, so there’s not much moisture, but it seems like they rot from the inside out.
Hey D907, Great vid, and thanks for the tips of most common problems with the Dodge's NVLD Evap systems! My Error code was P0442 and turned out to be the hose that you said was the number one problem. You save me a lot of time! MANY THANKS!!!
This is what was wrong with my 07 Durango..i spent over a month replacing parts and stressing out . That EVAP leak pump..caused my Durango not to start after i drove it and it was warmed up..id have to wait 10 mins..then id hear the fuel pump engage
I'm having the same issue sometimes my truck won't start at all an if i wait about 10 minutes it will start perfectly. I have a 08 Ram 2500 4wd HEMI besides that it runs an Drives Flawlessly ' an I also have gas light cap on but I changed the gas cap with a new OEM gas cap an brand new purge valve an gas cap ight still on. So you think the leak detection pump is bad an causing all this Bro?
Thanks for the video. I believe the problem also affects Gen 2 RAM's. At least the P4xx codes show up in my '96 RAM 5.9. I hope I can find the cause of this emissions failure now.
Hi, Great video. I'm going to check the hose tomorrow. One thing I want to mention. At certain times I smell gas behind the cab right above the fuel tank. No pattern. Is the system running its test? Does this smell point to the hose or something else? Again great video, Thanks
You said there were two common issues and I must presume the other is the purge valve .Maybe you will release another video on the purge valve and while it fails
09 dodge 3/4 ton 4x4- fixed it by manually blowing thru the 1/2" lines, cause everything looked good and clean. don't know if that was the fix but the code is all good now and it's been a week
My 05 Rumble Bee kept getting a po456 and I chased it for over a year. I eventually noticed that it would go away whenever I got higher octane gas, so it's been about 9 months on 89 octane and no codes
I have a red 2004 Dodge ram 1500 5.7, 4X4 Intermittently I get the engine light and tested it with a Fix and it showed code P0440. Stays off for awhile and then later shows up again. I only have 65000 miles on it and never changed the cap so that will be the first thing I do and also look at the hose. Thanks for the video
It is a good video I already saw where the part that I have to change to my 2009 dodge ram goes. you don't have another video that is from 2007 gmc acadia. many thanks for this video
2001 Dodge Intrepid here, and we replaced gas cap a yr ago to factory model. Car is running great yet this code comes back often. Looking at annual inspection this summer so preparing myself for dealing with this yet again. Labor charges here are astronomical to say the least. Obviously even minor repair bills on this vehicle bite. Last book value checked showed car is worth around 700.00. Bought used in 2002 with 24K mikes and currently have 140K. Thanks for the video information.
I hope you’re right, I’ve been battling this for a couple months now. Just gotta find that hose. Actually went to go look at the hoses just now, 1am and found no cracking on the hoses. I’m was hoping for an easy one there.
Mine is a p0441, and everything I’ve seen says it’s usually a vacuum line, gas cap, or vapor pressure sensor. I’m assuming the p0441 is very similar to the p0442, I’ve seen them with the same causes and fixes. I’ve also heard that the truck will throw this code when the temperature changes drastically, which happened this week where I live. This is my first winter with the truck in this area, and temp dropped from about 60 to around 20, so maybe that could be a cause? Just curious on your thoughts on the 441 code. I’ll do this stuff and see what happens later too
Because of the VVT cam and lifter system on this engine. I would continue to use the same weight oil the owners manual states no matter how many miles you have on it. The days of moving to a thicker oil when the engine has over 100k miles on it are long gone now that engines now have VVT solenoids and VVT systems on it. If you put heavier oil in these engines nowadays you risk not getting the lubrication inside the valve/cam system you need even though it will show plenty of oil pressure
Thanks.. Intermittent code but also only getting 7 mpg... Has a rich smell at start up only but otherwise runs great... Any ideas? Would purge issue cause extremely poor mpg ? Thank you..
P0440 code. Could lead to vehicle operations to run lean.. And cause knock or ping issue and burn spark plug. Just check #1 plug. If it's hot white.its definitely lean. It'll burn the plugs up. Evap purge ? I'll check that.
My 2006 Ram 1500 just started showing code P0456 I have replaced the gas cap so we shall see if that fixes the problem at least I know where to look next if the code comes back. Seems like I have to drive it about 100 miles or so for it to show up.
Good video! Changed my has cap last year when I experienced this issue. Now the code is back. Gonna check that hose next.Do you have the part number or name of hose. Thanks!
HeyTim, I have an 03 Durango. I'm getting the p0440. I snipped the ends off the hoses that were cracked. i checked the purge valve solenoid up by the left fender. I'm not sure what the part is under that by the battery, do you know what that part is? The gas capo looks good. the vap light is flashing on my innova scanner. How do I test the leak detection pump?
my car is a 2017 it brings no gas cap so I think I only have to change the purge control valve but now days they sell the whole thing with hoses and all for 60$ well is a ford focus
I have a whistle sounds like up front rh side every now and then I`ll get a major blast of dead gas or so go thru the engine then go again , But I`ll check these asap Thanks I`ve got a OBDll reader but can`t get down on my knees to go under .
tuna it was good to me i have a Problem with my Town 6 country 2011 with this codes i changed my fuel tan cap cause it was stolen but codes remain and Im suspecting is the ESIM vale thnx
No. An evap failure should not affect any driving ability. It is its own system for testing fuel vapor leaks and that's it. The same as if the radio failed...truck would still drive. My truck has had all these codes and my radio hasn't worked for years. Truck runs fine still.
@@j.a4751 Thansk Buddy! I actually found why the trcuk went into limp--its a P0700 and P0734 code --incorrect 4th gear ratio- gonna replace the input/output speed sensors-hopefully that will fix it.
Brandon Engle I’m wondering the same thing. Let me know if you replaced these lines and fixed your idle/stall problem. I’ve been experiencing stalling and rough idle for YEARS and always suspected this but have never bothered doing anything about it. Now I finally want to sell the truck.
I have a 2006 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.7 hemi engine and it runs fine until you fill it up full of gas. It will then stall out every time you let off the gas foe about the first 3/4 mile and then it will run fine from then on until you fill it up again. Of course as usual there is no code.
I would check the fuel pressure. Sounds like a possible fuel pump going bad. Another issue may be a fuel EVAP system problem where excessive fuel vapor is being burned after a fill up from a faulty purge valve

Yes I replace a PVC valve for a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 but then the epiphyseal line hose came off from the back so I can't find where it hooks up to

Checked my hose and sure enough it was cracked, payed $12 for the part from NAPA. My check engine is gone now thanks!
What's the name of the hose is the same part number
What part # ?
Eduardo Pacheco it was literally in the video
What's the hose called that you replace so I can tell the dealership what I need
