Kaiju no Kami Reviews - Space Amoeba (1970)

- Space Amoeba is considered by many to be the final classic Kaiju film as it was the first movie to be made following Eiji Tsuburaya's passing along with being Ishiro Honda's final non-Godzilla film. Thus, is this a grand finale that ends the golden age of Kaiju films on a high note or a lackluster whimper? Watch to find out.

Nice review, as usual!Fun-Fact: Yoshio Tsuchiya and Kenji Sahara were originally set to play the opposite character, respectively. This explains why it's not Mr. Tsuchiya who is overtaken by the alien bacteria, despite that being a common trope in his early career (playing aliens, or characters who become *possessed* by aliens).
I could see that but Sahara does make great villain-type characters. So much so that sometimes I forget that is him.
I will never understand how the space bacteria causes a cuttlefish, turtle and rubble crab grow massive and mutate but it doesn’t do anything really exciting to humans
No idea, but hey, it's a movie, it doens't need to make total sense.
Do you ever plan on reviewing American 50s monster movies? I think movies like 20 Million Miles to Earth, The Monster That Challenged the World, and It Came From Beneath The Sea would be perfect for this show
No idea. I may at some point.
They managed to get away from Gezora because the high frequency sonar from dolphins freaked him out. Also you kinda left out a scene where the humans find Gezora in a cave.
I left out parts that weren't truly relevant to the synopsis. After all, I don't want to show every scene from the film just in case someone watches the review without having seen it.
3:24 where did you get those buildings on the top shelf?
Some of those are the Figuarts buildings that Bandai released for the Ultraman line and some of the ones from the MonsterArts line.
I Have never seen this movie before I Loved your Review on it Thnak you 😀 😀
Glad you enjoyed it.
Kaiju no Kami look at this and tell me this doesn't make you want to cry. m.facebook.com/sentaiactoractress/photos/ms.c.eJwzNDA0NTM1tzS3NDK0sDS2MNIzRIiYmqOLWFiiiRgbgHUBAA10DqI~-.bps.a.10151231922329382.483422.355737899381/10156579792189382/?type=3&source=48
I always referred to Space Amoeba as the “Last Hurrah of the Toho Regulars.” Not only have we seen the main actors multiple times in Toho movies during the Showa Era, but so are minor characters such Sachio Sakai (the editor) and Yū Fujiki (the promotional manager, with bow-tie), who go back to respectively Godzilla (1954) and King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962). Perhaps it’s just me, but it’s almost sad to see these actors in this film, when Toho was LONG past the Glory Days.
It happens. I think they were more than happy just to be getting paid rather than the quality of the film.
Nice Review
Thanks.
If these monsters where in Godzilla final wars I would feel terrible sorry for them
Yeah, blink and they would be dead.
Nice review
Thanks.
Kaiju no Kami You're welcome
What would’ve you added to this movie to improve it?
I honestly don't remember at this point.
Out of Tohos monsters who do you think is the most underrated
King Caesar.
Kaiju no Kami probably say EBIRAH and Gezora
You deserve more subscribers than this dude.
Everyone says that. I'll get there. It doesn't happen over night though.
kaiju no kami! jurassic world fallen kingdom just hit 1 billion dollars worldwide!
Cool.
She took advantage of his vulnerable state to marry him, it seems. All in all an okay film. These monsters are fine for a meal of Godzilla, but aren't worthy of more in my opinion. Would love to have them reappear in other monster movies the way Kamoebas did in Tokyo SOS.
Dead.
Agreed.
Um, excuse me! I love that twilight zone reference :-)
:-D
I’m surprised you didn’t pull a hentai tentacle joke, but since I already saw that joke used constantly from another certain reviewer that also does Kaiju movies I’m actually okay you resisted the temptation.
What's funny is I never thought about using a hentai joke until after I had already filmed my review. lol However, since it's an old joke that I've already used before (among many others), I decided there was no point in doing it anyway. :-D
Sweet god the Japanese title is long also I want to see these kaiju and the gargantuas take on godzilla in a future movie
Yeah it is, but there's a lot of titles that are long. The only problem for me this time around is it took me 5 takes before I could say the whole thing without messing up.
ouch well at least it was worth it right?
Yep. Well maybe. :-)
lol
FINALLY!!!
Finally, what?
Kaiju no Kami You finally did areview of "Space Amoeba"!😊
lol Yeah. I finally had some time to sneak one in between TV shows. :-)
Rip suburia and Honda you gave us some cult classic dia Kiju films.
Do you mrean Tsuburaya?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork yes
Can you look at a Cartoon Show call Inhumanoids???
Can you look at a Dinosaur Movie call Baby Secret of the Lost Legend????????
Personally space amoeba is one of those films where I have no idea why many people hate Like yeah I will admit the story is kinda cliched with the main characters trying to survive an island with many dangerous monsters we have seen this type of plot in many giant monster films hell even many toho films but what i like about this film the most is that this is one of the few kaiju films we’re the monsters are not attacked by the millitary or any national force the main characters pretty much have to fend for themselves and this was the final toho film to use the original cast of actors that they had used the entire 1960s this film is like a nice farewell and as for the monsters gezora, ganimes and kamoebas while they do have pretty silly designs and they don’t have any special abilities or powers I still think they are very memorable monsters ( my personal favourites are gezora and kamoebas) overall space amoeba is a very guilty pleasure for me and I really don’t understand why many people hate it
I just found it flat out boring.
1:14 I knew the coronavirus was from space!
lol
...bringing up the current theory that the virus came from bats..............SO WHAT REALLY BROUGHT DOWN GEZORA...............eh??
@@kaijuu.ggrays9500 They burned him. They set him on fire.
I like this movie
This movie was no masterpiece but I enjoyed it though. The monster scenes are fun, the final battle was disappointing, I like the design of the monsters,The music was extremely well done I loved it. I liked the characters not the greatest in Tohos library but you do care about them, I also don’t how the sciencetist just says it’s Aliens. The efffects are good I just had a good time with this movie.
Thanks for the review, Kaiju no Kami! It was pretty funny and informative. I also agree with you about the ending as well. It was a shame we didn't see Gezora participate in the between Ganime and Kamoeba. By the way I have some things to show you.
1. Toho recently released the Bloodthirsty trilogy on Blu-ray. Do you already have it? If not then you can by it from the following link, just remove the spaces:
https : / / www . amazon . com / Bloodthirsty - Trilogy - Vampire - Dracula -Special / dp / B07B12HN97
2. Also, since you had some clips from Destroy All Monsters in this review, here's an interesting bit of trivia I heard about Destroy All Monsters. The 1999 year placement was an invention of the English dub. The original version did not specify a year other than something along the lines of the very late twentieth century. However, I have heard some Japanese sources say that Destroy All Monsters takes place in the year 1994; five years earlier than what most fans think.
I do not, but I've been thinking about picking it up when I have extra money.
As for DAM, you are correct in that they just say, "The 20th century is nearing its end."
Way how many monster movies do you own
For movies?
Kaiju no Kami yes
Kaiju no Kami I have a total of 69 yes I know
I'm not sure, really. I own quite a bit.
To me my least favorite in the trio is ganimes
Yeah, he was pretty lackluster.
I have a movie you could review the transformers the movie (1986)
I thought about it, but then I realized how much of a pain it would be to review with RUclips's copyright system, so I ended up deciding against it. At least for now.
is this the one with Gazore? the squid looking monster?, if so then im calling it right now, Hentai jokes
lol Yes, it does have Gezora.
like i said, ive seen enough hentai to know where that is going
How many of these kaiju movies are going to have a reporter in them? I think most of them have a reporter as one of the main protagonists.
A lot of them do, which is fine because they make far more interesting characters than military goons.
Fun fact the washed up Kaiju in. GMK is one of these three!
I think you mean in Against MechaGodzilla. :-p
This movie's without a doubt one of the weakest and most forgettable kaiju movies ever made considering that this was made after Tsuburaya's death! Add to the fact that the monster scenes in this movie are rather lackluster in contrast to toho's other kaiju movies makes this one the most forgettable kaiju movie toho's ever made! Even Varan had more memorability than this and that's saying alot!
lol
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork P.S. who do you prefer? Kamoebas or Gamera?
Gamera, no contest.
johnny ngo The only memorable thing in this movie was Gezora,Kamoebas just randomly appeared out of nowhere and Ganimes was just forgettable
