Irkutsk looks like a wonderful historic place❤🇷🇺.. Looks like someone is putting lots of money into building the modern style apartments and money renovating the Tsarist/Russian Empire old buildings.. At 31:53 I saw a "Barbershop" sign on a Russian Empire era style building. Amazing to see English signs so deep into Russia. . . I noticed several buildings with English reading signs. . Once again you and Ksenia made a great video. 🇲🇽🇺🇸🇷🇺Spasibo my brother!!

The well kept and decorated Siberian style log buildings make everything look so cosy! I feel like sitting on a bench somewhere on such a sunny day and sipping cognac from a coke bottle :)
From Mississippi, I must say I have always been under the impression that Siberia, a frozen country, Russia sent people there as punishment because life was so impossible. It is quite a beautiful place and the old building especially the churches are quite amazing.

Hola amigo!

We have these contrasts of Soviet, pre-Soviet and modern architecture in many cities, especially in not very large ones. And even in large cities, for example, in Yekaterinburg, the 4th largest in terms of population, there is such a thing, although there is not only this style. And even more so in provincial small towns. It is still impossible to talk about a single Soviet style, since in the Soviet era it changed about every 10-15 years, those beautiful buildings with sickles, hammers and stars are the Stalinist Empire style, 1940-50 years, Soviet symbols are still preserved on such houses in many cities, well, it seems a couple of buildings in the style of Soviet Art Deco flashed. There are so many Soviet buildings because Siberia was very actively developed during the Soviet era. Also with pre-Soviet buildings, what is in Irkutsk is the neo-Russian style of the late 19th century or so. Monuments to Lenin in Russia in every city, but in different quantities, nevertheless, the Russian Revolution, no matter how you treat it, is a key date in our history. So many monuments dedicated to the war are connected with the fact that for the peoples of Russia it is not just a war, but a tragedy that claimed the lives of 27 million people and in every family there is someone who participated in this war, and we honor and remember these people who fought for our future.

Dear Sir, thank you for the program. I know your history. God bless you and your Lady. I was in the area as a member of geological expedition in mid 1970s. A bit NWN - the City of Krasnoyarsk. Then we went down the Yenisei River towards the Polar Circle by the boat. We passed the point where Angara River joins Yenisei. Very powerful. Coincidently, we are brothers in arms. I was in Afghanistan in 1982. Different times, different war - "Soviet invasion". I do know how it goes. Wars suck. My American wife and I live in Boston area now. I am US Citizen for over 30 years. But lately I have deep thoughts - maybe there is the time to get the hell out? This world has finally gone completely mental. All the best to you, your family, people you love and care, and every normal person in this global chaos.

Speaking about soviet signs - it's surprisingly spread in Siberian regions - The Oblast legislature of Novosibirsk department/oblast also has a sign of USSR mounted over the entrance. And these soviet buildings and style are widely spread in soviet-built cities of Siberia, like Novosibirsk. And ancient cities of European Russia are build earlier, than soviet came. So they're "off" the soviet vibe

I very much love soviet buildings specially those which are called "stalinka', they were build during Stalin reign. I love the way they are constructed, seems very long lasting, strong, safe for living! Specially those Stalin scyscrapers in Moscow, extremely beautiful! Love their style and colour! After Chrushev there are very grey and miserable buildings unfortunately.
Cool video. I suggest a topic for future videos. These are the Civil War in Russia (1918-1922) and Admiral Alexander Kolchak, the Supreme Ruler of Russia (1918-1920). It was in Irkutsk that he was executed. But it is worth visiting Omsk, the city where Alexander Kolchak received his title, the city that became the capital of the Russian state for a year and a half.
New video coming out in about 40 minutes my last day in Irkutsk :D Thank you for subbing I came to Russia 1 year ago I lived in Irkutsk it was my first home now I live in Slyudyanka but Irkutsk has a part of my heart!
Usually, carved patterns above the windows and along the edges of the roofs of old Russian houses are not just patterns, but pagan symbols that protect, such symbols are still made on wooden Russian houses.
I'm a native Tyumen citizen, this city is located in the south of Tyumen Oblast, not too far away from Irkutsk, for about 3-4 thousand kilometers away. And yes we also have statue of Lenin here, we have wooden traditional architecture mixed with modern blocks of flats built here and there, a lot of modern infrastructure but also what I personally think nice is all those wooden old houses are treated very well, most of them are located in the city center. One of main interesting things about Tyumen unlike every other Siberian Russian city is that we have pluralism in religion, meaning we have catholic orthodox churches and even mosques. The best roads are also here in the city I live in... I think you probably should visit and check it by yourself.
Irkutsk is a very interesting city! You did a great tour, and it's great that you were able to cover all sides of the city as much as possible in a short video, it turned out to be very honest and atmospheric!

You’re right I really should!

Very cool ive never seen someone make a video showing th contrast in that city perhaps I will go and do it

Usually, carved patterns above the windows and along the edges of the roofs of old Russian houses are not just patterns, but pagan symbols that protect, such symbols are still made on wooden Russian houses.
Thanks awesome information!
Yes! You are right, they are made for protection. Everything had a reason for it.
Im told that Tyumen is great I will see it next year for sure!
