I am a veteran of the US military during the Cold War, fascinated by Soviet era architecture, hockey and Russian food and churches. The Russian people never seemed to be my enemy. You have made living in Russia seem very attractive. Now that I am retired, I think about the place where I want to live out my remaining decades, God willing. Nice job on the videos but I'd like to hear more from Ksenia.
I can understand you very well. My wife and I found our paradise in Bulgaria. I have been in the real estate industry for almost 30 years, so I really enjoyed watching your video about house prices in Siberia. My wife is half Russian, half German. I'm from Northern Germany, have been to 28 countries, and have even lived in Miami for a time as a hotel manager (I once studied that). But I have also been to very often to Russia. Skt. Petersburg, Moscow, Omsk and, as one of the few Germans, three times in Kazakhstan. We have a lot of Russian and Ukrainian friends. For over 20 years. Many of them also live here in Bulgaria. Great people, not as „brain washed" as many in the USA or Europe. And the Bulgarians are the same way. The Bulgarians are still grateful that Russia freed them from the Ottomans. This is a deep connection - even the same alphabet, which was created by Bulgarians, btw. You did everything right - a Mexican in Russia ;-) Bravo. We both found our happiness. Greetings to your wife. Thomas and Christiane. P.S.: We have of course subscribed to your channel. ;-)
For many men, the biggest advantage of living in a house is the opportunity to go out of the house in their retro boxer underpants :)))) and have coffee in the garden. This is very Russian, and this partially explains why many houses have such high fences. Wearing shorts instead of underpants is not an option))))
Yes, high fences protect personal space, which is so appreciated in the West. But it is strange that there are not so many high fences in one-story America, it is a rarity
The radical environmentalist, Edward Abbey, said, "If a man can't piss in his own front yard, he's living too close to town." As Robert Frost said, "Good fences make good neighbors." I don't get the idea of US suburban no fence neighborhoods and I'm American. In Romania, it is the same thing, lots of fences to keep the curious out.
And I would also like to express my gratitude to you. While the majority of English-speaking bloggers describe in all colours certainly excellent life in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other major megacities, you lift the veil of the mystery of the Russian hinterland❤

From these prices a poor person from Baltics would become middle class/rich,same salaries btw as in western Russia but the price difference is crazy, basically Russia is 3~ times cheaper/same salary. Also not to forget that this is near Baikal which means it costs more than regular rural area of Russia that isn't touristy. If I sold my 50m2 apartment in Baltics I could buy a 100m2 new brick house in Kaliningrad or a 150m2 same house in Belarus.

Bro, the more I see Siberia, the more I fall in love with it! Living in a village, it’s my dream! I prefer the villages, nature and slow pace of life! Maybe someday I will do the same you did! What a beautiful place you live in. But yes, I’d happily buy a nice plot of land next to a stream or river and build my own house from scratch. As long as I have internet, even slow one, I’d be happy.
As far as I know, in the US, the Internet sells old companies, so there are old monopolies in the US, so there is no strong competition in the US. But in Russia, companies appeared only after 1991, so there is strong competition in the Internet and companies are trying to provide faster and cheaper Internet access than competitors. 🤔🤔
Wow, incredible value. Prices here in the US, especially CA are on the rise again. You're looking at around $400,000 average in my area. You being from Los Angeles, you know how crazy the prices are there. One thing I always have to keep in mind is when they say how many rooms the houses or apartments are. Two rooms doesn't always mean two bedrooms. They often count all the rooms, bedrooms, living room, and kitchen. I'd love to be your neighbor, Daniel. I don't know about buying the big house there, I wouldn't want people thinking I'm boujie. I think my favorite was the traditional one, blue with the shutters @ 22:30. It wasn't for sale, but I liked it best. I always loved cabins and cozy houses. But I would definitely want to build a garage. Awesome video!
If you mean in Russia, we don't count bedrooms, we count rooms and people decided themselves what they use them for. But we don't count kitchen as a separate room
You cannot compare housing prices in the USA with Russia. I have no idea the average wage in roubles. I suspect that housing is very expensive for Russians🇨🇦thankyou
Obviously I would be coming there with my American dollars. For what I can buy with $100,000 US dollars here (nothing) compared to what I can buy with those same dollars is astounding. The average wage for laborers/average retail jobs is the equivalent to $800-1200 dollars a month, or so I hear.

Since august 2023, the Russian government started a program where it gives away free land in the “arctic and far east regions” of Russia. However, when I looked at the list of lands, they’re all basically in the arctic, very far north… not lake baikal.

I suspect that the paint schemes of the expensive house and neighbor will rapidly take on different characters and color schemes as soon as they become inhabited. In Belgrade , Serbia we stayed in an older soviet style apartment at the top floor, and made the trips up and down the stairs for shopping , etc - I was always intrigued that each doorway had its own character and look, and several landings would have plants framing them or in windows within the stairwell. Character of houses comes from the characters within, and we are all better for that!

I hate to say this but 267k USD is not a lot for a house. In London one bedroom apartment of 50 m square is half a million pound sterling and thats not the top price. Thank you, Dan and Ksenia for showing us beauty in simple things in life. God bless you. Love from London.
@@Wild-Siberia yes, it's insanely expensive but in Russia it can be the same, depending where. That's why we are not too scared about cost of property in Russia. Just as long as we can get money over.
As long as the war goes on, real estate in Russia is going to keep on being damn cheap. The only problem is that the closer is defeat, the less people will accept money at all
Even at 500k pounds that 50m sq apartment in London is not nice, I’m sure. Probably still drafty with single pane windows. Even if it were nice, you’d still need to eventually walk outside into the city which looks like a 3rd world dump. No offense personally. The nicest places are often because of what you *don’t* find there.
The most expensive house you showed looks like good value for money. It looks large and well-built and those brick walls around the property lot aren't cheap to build. It also has a spacious yard. What strikes me as noteworthy about this whole video is how expensive housing is in Russia relative to average income, which is about $700 per month in the Irkutsk region. That's a quarter of what it is where I live. I'd say the average price per square meter in places like Slyudanka in Finland is roughly twice the price in comparable places in Russia. To me, it looks like there's a lot of room for improvement in terms of efficiency in the Russian construction industry and perhaps zoning. Space is not an issue almost anywhere in the country.

If it had not been for these bloody rules regulation and sanctions, I may have ended up also in Russia. nice video, glad to see positive things about Russia, subscribed.
24:15 You surely can "glam it up". The important part is, it's made of bricks and it almost certainly has a proper foundation and thus it's already way ahead of the average and even a lot of the expensive houses in America. I understand that it is a lot of money for someone living in Siberia, but when I look at what even tiny condos cost here in Switzerland, I have to say this house is great deal. And you probably don't get to own a garden plot for 17000 USD in Switzerland.
I agree with you, if you have the money I think its not a bad deal to invest in having a summer get away at the shores of the largest lake in the world in a beautiful peaceful clean town.
@@Wild-Siberia People say that Switzerland is beautiful, but it's actually quite a crowded place to live. And while the cost of living keeps on climbing, the quality of living does not. @@Wild-Siberia Well Germany has its own set of issues. Switzerland has now a population of 9 million people on a comparatively small territory of which a large part is so mountainous that only few people live there. Probably the best part of it. Meanwhile the "lowlands" are absolutely packed with people and everything from public transport to a glass of beer keeps getting more expensive.
lol there were no houses or cities here until we settled this land, some only 100 years ago or less. virtually evry house in the US has a foundation, except very old cheap shacks that were the first ones ever built on that land, built overnight in the poorest rural places in the south or west before cities existed here etc. Essentially, cabins for immediate shelter. The Western states use wood but bricks are for the old houses in the eastern half. we have a lot o f wood and houses must be built fast, because of millions of new immigrants every year. Every house since about 1900 must be built on a foundation. so the west is mostly wood or stucco. Newly built mass subdivisions with 100+ quickly built houses nowadays . But ours are very nice for 500,000. nicer than the ones shown except in t he West coast cities and New York city, or wealthy neighborhoods.

Hey Daniel, I really enjoy your videos (watched them all) - the sincerity, your ability to enjoy little things. Way to go! 👍🏻 Regarding housing: as it was mentioned in the comments, it's way less expensive to buy land and build one on your own. It's not complicated in Russia: no bureaucracy, no HOA, nobody to tell you what to do. The houses you showed really don't worth the asking price, and I assume it's negotiatable. BTW I honestly believe you need a vehicle to bring your travels on the next level. There's lots of places you can only reach on a 4x4, and they're worth visiting. I'm deep into cars/bikes/sleds, let me know if you require any assistance because I don't see anybody around you who in fact knows this issue (although I might be wrong).
This video is not me looking for something to buy its me reporting the cost of life for houses and apartments. I also want to educate foreigners how location affects the cost of things. I know who you are and have no doubts regarding your engineering capabilities! Semper fi! 🙂
I am absolutely in solidarity with the car for Daniel , and yes, housing prices are absurd in some places , I also want to build a house , BUT, believe me, there are subtleties here , at the moment the cost of building materials prices are just crazy unjustifiably, and this is not only my personal opinion, not even far to go to take a bar of wood, the cost of which is from 8000 thousands of rubles and above per cubic meter , when in general, if you look at the truth, the average salary of the average Russian is 25,000 thousand rubles if you're lucky, 35,000 rubles (and believe me, not everyone is lucky) and this is just a bar, I'll share with you the real layout of affairs, well, there is also enough bureaucracy in document circulation, perhaps not in such a strict framework than in other countries
I couldn't see myself in an apartment. So I didn't consider the value. If I had to choose, I would choose the medium or upper priced houses. They looked nice inside. Being honest I would probably buy some land and build a house or should I say have a house built.

One time the whole pole fell and they fixed it in a day. It's not a problem to climb 13 floors unless you have babies or are elderly/with disabilities, you just climb slow and it's like taking a hike. I dont think it's a problem in Russia,I myself live in the 9th floor and the elevator breaks down rarely and if it does they fix it in 6hours~ that is to take in than I live in a country where services arent as good as in Russia,Moscow is like 5 times bigger in population than my country.I doubt they have electric issues because these blocks are newly built and have their own administrators that take care of the elevator and do regular checkups so it doesn't break down randomly, all wiring/apartments where I live are built in 1980s,the elevator used to be from 80s too and it rarely broke down but we changed it and now it's even rarer. In all my life living here I've heard of only 1 time people who got stuck in an elevator that dropped because of electric blackout. Honestly my internet goes down more times than electricity which is also 1-3 times a year,I just think eastern Europe/Russia does social infrastructure better, services are way more faster. Sadly after the soviet collapse everything went from government free service to privately owned=costs a lot. Moscow itself has a great mayor which made the whole city socially very comfortable to live in. Sadly we in Eastern Europe just have idiots in gov who create new taxes and say it's the Russian fault,we basically becoming like New York with the trash issue, completely destroyed the soviet system where apartments used to have trash tunnels and trucks would pick it all up every morning. Now it's all in the open like streets in NY with black trash cans and the smell and they pick it up not daily but once a week and we got taxed for it.
My grandmother lives in a small scientific town about a hundred miles from Moscow - district-wide blackouts are pretty much unheard of, but the elevator outages do happen once or twice a year. She used to live in an apartment on 4th floor, no elevator, - that has become difficult, so she moved to another one on 8th floor in a newer building. She turned 90 the other day and, as luck would have it, the elevator broke on that day, so she did 8 flights down and then 8 flights up(!) on the way back from the party. Very proud of her :-)

Based on what I saw, the green middle priced house eems to have the most bang for the buck... At that price; compared to houses in the US market it seems like a good deal..I think I would tone the lighting down a little on the inside 😉Outro: I like the one at 26:39 I like the old school look and colors. It's hard though there are a few I liked and then the scenery! Thank you both for showing this.

I would just paint the outside and inside walls probably white or neutral tones and it would look sooooooo good. Heck, with the way how cheap everything is I’d hire some nice guys give them 500€ in cash and I’m sure they’d handle it.
Thanks for this video (and your work in general!). As someone who is considering taking advantage of the new "golden visa" law in Russia and buying property in order to obtain citizenship, this was certainly informative, even though the minimum price required for a golden visa/citizenship is 20.000.000 rubles, so roughly 250.000 $. The prices/apartments you showed are much much cheaper than the average in Greece were I am now are, and even cheaper than most (except Eastern) Europe properties. On average, a 100 sq.meter apartment in Athens will go for 200.000 $. A new one more than 300.000... All the best to you and Zhenia, looking forward for more content!
Senya " forgive me if that's not the correct spelling" has a very calming demeanor. I've noticed that people with that often have an aesthetic eye for both beauty and visual composition.. If she takes pictures and video's to capture the sense of a place I think it might be interesting and doing so will help develop any talent that may exist.. The blossoming of spring will be upon you both soon and the explosion of life that occurs with it this is a rich opportunity.. You are in a place where the force of that explosion of life is beyond peoples lived experience and I suspect its also an important aspect of the Russian people and their Culture..
I would buy an old house and bring it back to life. We do this in Bulgaria. Business plus fun... And there is a rule for a short first calculation: How much rent could you get in a month. For exampel like 800,-- Dollars. This is 9.600 in a year. So, the maximum should not be more than 20 annual rents. 192.000,-- Dollars in this case.
Very interesting, in central Europe the trend of moving from villages to cities is pretty much over, now villages have boom of new houses and renovations as people moving to cheaper locations or they head for nicer and better envinronment, it seems that in Russia people are going through moving to big cities for work and other benefits but I think that decade ahead it will go around as well so having a house or flats in rural area close to the cities would be pretty good choice
The “house” I liked the most was the bakery, because I am a baker! My dream would be to return summer after summer to bake alongside Russian bakers learning Rye, the language, culture. Would be so fun! Is such a thing possible? And what kind of visa would be required for such a stay?
I love this channel and I’m glad I found it. Thank you for the candid real context, the environment you are in feels like home to me, rural mixed with city, real people. I could go on and on.
Thank you for bringing us a closer look at this wonderful life! I decided that I have had enough of the USA. I have built a house in Thailand and will retire there soon. If not for having roots already down in Thailand, I would certainly be considering a move to Russia. I am happy to subscribe to your channel. I look forward to more of your content.

My favorite houses are the old fashion ones with the colorful window frames. I am from New Mexico in the USA. I really don’t know how to convert that currency to the US one so not sure what to say about the prices but I’m sure they are very reasonable . I live in a 4 bedroom Victorian house in Southern New Mexico and love it so I am not thinking of relocating. However I am sure there must be many looking forward to getting out of the rat race in the US for sure. I like how each home is unique and different too. Thanks for pointing that out ! That is how my town is too. It was a very nice video!
I loved the colorful mid priced house the best!! I love the fact it has a large greenhouse in the backyard!!! Absolutely love the colorful variety of all the homes wonderful!! But my personal fav was the mid grade
Nice!!! I love the yellow colored house, for $103,000 dollars it's a bargain. Most impressive are those magestic mountains near by. Cozy little town, looks very tranquil. Thanks for this lovely video, greetings from Mexico
I just found your channel while trying to uncover videos on prices of homes in Russia. This is probably the best overall real life pricing along with a walkthrough on the internet in my opinion. I felt that the cheapest houses should be between $20,000 USD and $45,000 USD. The middle price house seemed high to me at $106,000. Most people moving to Russia want to be able to buy a house for a relative low cost so they can enjoy their lives without going into debt. Awesome video. BTW, your companion is a really beautiful woman. I hope most Russian women look as pretty as she does in this video.
@@Wild-SiberiaI notice many Russian women don’t wear make up or if so it is very little. I have been watching Elli on her videos showing different ethnic cultures. She is very beautiful with her red hair but she is so natural and so sincere ! Not a put on at all.
300 grand in debt per income tax payer, so that's 600 grand in the hole between you and your husband -- unless you don't have an income, in which case it's only 200 grand. I wouldn't worry too much, though, you can pass the bill on to your kids.
@@chesshooligan1282- We always vote for people who are trying to balance the budget. Indeed, we live in Montana which has a constitutional amendment to balance the budget. We decided when we married in 1985 never to have kids. For my husband at 77 and me at 70, we'll be dead before everything comes crashing down.
@@paulakpacente Oh, okay, somebody else will pick up the bill. You come from one of the states where decent people normally live, so I'm pretty sure you didn't vote for all that waste of other people's money. I think, though, things could come crashing down well before you're dead.
I would suggest you buy a single wooden house with large backyard. The point is wood insulates great in winter and is cool in summer. The goal is to increase quality of live and grow your own food and raise some chickens. No loud neighbours. Wood is cheaper material. Due to russias extreme weathers changes perfectly suitable. Some old soviet appartments got asbestos in them. Wooden house does not attract attention that much.
As local Russian I want to give advice Don't look at how houses looks inside see the potential. Nice apartment can have a price around 30k while a rubbish will cost you double. Check a view, local area, stores, routes, schools, kindergarten, internet service, how the house is maintained, neighbors. This is more important than interiors. You can redesign your flat at any time later I think it will not cost you too much. Change old floor, windows, buy new kitchen stuff and a couch. Also in old apartment is very cool to make 3-4 rooms into 2-3 rooms 😊
I like houses better than the Soviet style apartments. The green one for $106,000 looks nice but the inside could be updated. Thanks for the tour! The last house is beautiful. Question: I noticed that the grass is brown. Do you reseed like we do here or does it green up naturally?
The grass will become green again naturally. New grass will grow from those roots. Grass is a perennial plant. The part above the ground dies in winter and grows back in spring. Just like all other herbaceous plants typical for this climate zone.
@@spiderone4 No I actually live in Georgia. The fescue can be difficult to get established. I remember that we had to overseed every fall. Eventually we had our yard sodded with Zoysia in the front and Bermuda in the back.
Wow this was an eye opener, if I sold my house in Australia I could afford to rent where I wanted and have enough money to buy 30 of the cheapest ones with no debt… I’d never have to work another day in my life.
Fascinating video. Thanks. It would be good to elaborate on the average incomes of the people in the town you visited and the cost of the housing. What percent of residents’ incomes go to pay for housing? Having such background information will help Westerners understand how relatively expensive e it is for residents to live in that town. For context, in the US people often spend ~33% of their incomes on housing. Thank you for sharing your videos and insights.
house hold income is probably 600-800 usd a month but all their bills are significantly lower across the board I lived in Russia first 5 months alone used about 2000 usd 🤣

Thanks . . that's the answer i was waiting for. Sounds very reasonable.

Obviously I would be coming there with my American dollars. For what I can buy with $100,000 US dollars here (nothing) compared to what I can buy with those same dollars is astounding. The average wage for laborers/average retail jobs is the equivalent to $800-1200 dollars a month, or so I hear.

Thats awesome I hope you has some good nostalgia
Space is not an issue almost anywhere in the country.

lol there were no houses or cities here until we settled this land, some only 100 years ago or less. virtually evry house in the US has a foundation, except very old cheap shacks that were the first ones ever built on that land, built overnight in the poorest rural places in the south or west before cities existed here etc.
I also want to educate foreigners how location affects the cost of things.

living in a post soviet country that is poorer than Russia and didn't fix/upgrade their infrastructure for 30 years,I have electric blackouts max 1-3 times a year and they last around 3 hours.
Very proud of her :-)
I would spend the money to put an elevator in it, but true sometimes 1 story is better.

I think you might be right.@@jacksoncornbreadmcbride6763
I particularly love houses with yard spaces as i love planting and gardening, outdoor barbeques area etc. The climate there looks comfy though😊
exactly thanks for the reference 🫡

My favorite houses are the old fashion ones with the colorful window frames. I am from New Mexico in the USA. I really don’t know how to convert that currency to the US one so not sure what to say about the prices but I’m sure they are very reasonable . I live in a 4 bedroom Victorian house in Southern New Mexico and love it so I am not thinking of relocating. However I am sure there must be many looking forward to getting out of the rat race in the US for sure. I like how each home is unique and different too. Thanks for pointing that out ! That is how my town is too. It was a very nice video!
Сейчас 1 доллар = 100 рублей.
I loved the colorful mid priced house the best!! I love the fact it has a large greenhouse in the backyard!!! Absolutely love the colorful variety of all the homes wonderful!! But my personal fav was the mid grade
Спасибо !!!Штат Индиана.Россия прекрасная страна, когда нибудь я смогу вернуться 🙏🏼
Welcome with open arms !
$17400, same price as some in Destroit.... But safee and livable
I hope most Russian women look as pretty as she does in this video.
she’s my fiancé we’ve lived together 2 years she’s absolutely beautiful and wears 0 make up. I try to make realistic content thanks for watching
@@Wild-SiberiaI notice many Russian women don’t wear make up or if so it is very little. I have been watching Elli on her videos showing different ethnic cultures. She is very beautiful with her red hair but she is so natural and so sincere ! Not a put on at all.
Безусловно красивая, но он выбирал, из остальных красивых 😊
Hello, i'm glad to see review of siberian small town from foreigner. I’m surprised but your pronunciation I understand even without subtitles.
I speak standard Californian English from america
@@Wild-Siberia I understand you well too. You speak clearly. Although my English is so-so, I only studied it at school.
For all the problems in the U.S., I'm glad my husband and I live here.
@@chesshooligan1282- You could be right about things coming crashing down, but at our ages and with our health issues we just need to stay here.
Love your passion and pride in your town! My favourite property was the mid-price house
I absolutely love this place my recent videos truly show that
Really exciting review! Good job!
I am thankful for your positive opinion let me know if you saw a house you liked.
Nice video. I guess it'll be very popular on your channel🙂
We will see I hope because I want more people to visit Baikal and I want people to experience Russia! Thanks for always supporting!
Beautiful area, I've visited there several times. Want to move there from the U.S. one day.
Come visit!
As local Russian I want to give advice
Don't look at how houses looks inside see the potential.
Thanks brother. Another fun and informative vid!
I try my best thanks for always supporting!
Thank you for the info buddy, my goal will be to come and visit you one day. Would be nice to chat with you, and get shashlik or Shurma. 😊
We will have beautiful times together come friend!
The midrange house was interesting. Liked the outside, yard, green house, and fireplace.
I like houses better than the Soviet style apartments. The green one for $106,000 looks nice but the inside could be updated. Thanks for the tour! The last house is beautiful. Question: I noticed that the grass is brown. Do you reseed like we do here or does it green up naturally?
Thanks for watching yes the 106k one is absolutely awesome!
The grass will become green again naturally. New grass will grow from those roots. Grass is a perennial plant. The part above the ground dies in winter and grows back in spring. Just like all other herbaceous plants typical for this climate zone.
@@galaxyrider9599 thank you for responding! 🕊
@@CharlottePrattWilson Reseeding grass? First time I hear about that. Where do you live so you have to that, Desert?
@@spiderone4 No I actually live in Georgia. The fescue can be difficult to get established. I remember that we had to overseed every fall. Eventually we had our yard sodded with Zoysia in the front and Bermuda in the back.
Check Baikalsk and Kultuk properties where many pretty rich from Irkutsk own the houses
Yes this is true, a lot of Irkutsk rich people have Dachas and houses in these towns and villages.
Russia reminds me of towns in rural America in the 50s… hope and pray Russia holds onto its Christian roots and family values, traditions and rich culture … praying that America turns to Christ
