Daniel, it depends on the personal income of the individual in Russia. Here in the US I paid $5500 for two six inch thick concrete, rebar reinforced pads, 10'X20' and 12' X 16'. The concrete in your fence most likely goes down at least 2 feet into the ground. You got a bargain regarding US prices. I've seen some of the houses in Russia for $100k to $150k that would cost up to a million dollars here.

It's not about the cost living in Russia or elsewhere that is the main factor. Legion of men just uploaded a video about how lonely America feels these days.
Nobody seems to have any place or reason to get together and talk to one another over the larger parts of the America in general.
It's the community aspect that is missing that so many who have went abroad seem to realize.
America in many parts does not feel like home anymore to a lot of people.
And that's why so many find places like Russia so alluring, as you have the freedom to buy a cheap plot of land and make your own own there. (More mentally than Physically)
The social aspect alone is wonderful, even if you don't speak the language all that well.
It's STILL a fun time there and an overall better experience to those that are open to it.
That the big selling point of Russia.
    Reasonable costs, & reasonable returns.
I'm slowly getting my affairs in order, and only being held back by things taking so long to get complete before I make a call to the Russian embassy for that special VISA.
    *Now about the Costs* ?
You can still live right next to Russia, and still have all the benefits of living there, while also being able to spend your western money in another state with just a short drive away.
For those that are ready to retire or have been forced to retire due to medial or some other issues, living abroad is bar none the way to go, especially for those that are now limited to something like their social security income as you are now able to live and even put away money for a rainy day when social security receives extreme cutbacks or runs out in the future.
*I STILL STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU WORK LIKE AN ANIMAL AND SAVE UP 100K before you leave the USA* but u do u.
The best part flatout is the medical care overseas.
It's fantastic, and this is from accounts of other Veterans I have spoke to & others civilians alike.
No super long year to 3 year wait lists to get care or get a procedure done.
And the cost you pay for private insurance a month often ends up being your bill in these other countries for medical for the year.
Then there is just the quality of care Vs. what you get in The West CONCERNING what you can attain from a middle class salary to what it would take Elon Bucks to get the same KIND of care that is offered elsewhere.
Some of this is not exactly medical, but things like massages, foot care, eye care etc. Etc. do add up.
And I can tell you from my experience, I had to get a lawyer to get these things to happen.
Something that would be laughable to unimaginable elsewhere.
    Using myself for an example?
I have been told that working is out of the cards for me for at least 3-5 years only on the account of the treatment and care needed to get BACK to WORK.
Even after an entire year, torn ligaments and all, I have yet to get an opening to go see a PCP in order to get surgery on my shoulder with hopes for rehabilitation taking another 2 years after that!
That's just how clogged up and backed up our system here is on the West Coast.
And I live in Portland. One of the biggest medical outlets for College graduate going into the field.
Russia, Asia? This recuperation time would be a mater off a year or less, surgery and all if I was already situated there.
That's a lot better then 4-5 years on what the private out of pocket (Read: *EXPENSIVE* ) specialists have quoted me here.
    Not to mention the costs.
Just my transportation costs can rack up to $100 a day, and that's ONLY for going maybe 10 miles.
(to hard to drive some days & extreme pain and disorientation)
It's really crazy that I have to make close to 10k a month, just live as a single guy with a NORMAL to subpar living standard.
That's the Rub of living in the west.
You really do have to make close to $350k a year as a single man in order to have the same kind of life you can have elsewhere in the world on the silently above median salary that people get and are considered middle class elsewhere.
Bar none, don't worry about the costs, worry about what you can do wherever you go, and see how your value as a man will be beneficial to your new country of residence.
Chances you already have some skills that might be in demand. (Farming for instance/ Tractor operator etc)

Hi, Dan, amazing videos, the dark gray color's grand although the corrugated metal fence like many other relatively thin materials, being simply on its own has a temporary-build appeal 10:34 like construction hoarding; nonetheless its a great start for a defining Trump border wall look 12:05 p.s. those steel internal columns, perhaps have them brace the full height of the exterior side of the metal fence as to visually strengthen & upscale the entire fence ever so slightly 12:01 as well as to open up options for subtle parameter ambient lighting streetside etc. p.p.s. the 6M auto gate is pretty neat - got to see that when its finished.

Interesting, so here in Texas an acre of land is between 65-90k . The fence you built with the concrete would cost between 20-30k so if we use the low side of the estimate you would be looking at paying $85,000.00 for the land and fence. You are $13,000.00 +/- into your project which is a pretty decent deal, especially considering you possibly have a monthly check from the US military. You're ahead of the game. On a side note, have you heard from Lars (survival Russia)? He hasn't posted much.

I been a fan for only a few short months. One, I think you are doing just amazing. The land and the improvements for the price you paid is well worth it. Second, that color on the fence is favorite color. Having a professional do it, so its done right and to you and your wife's standards is all that matters. Paying a bit more for something that will last, is a very sound investment. If it was done poorly or not right, the amount of extra money to get it where you originally wanted it would have cost even more. I envy the adventure you are on. I am also hoping with Trump in office that war in Ukraine will come to a close and sanctions will be lifted. Our world can find some balance and your dream will be a bit easier to accomplish. You have showed me so many beautiful places in Siberia, and your willingness to try new things is down right awesome. Well, that video came back to my mind this last week. Did you hear about the big fire here in Ventura Co.? So sad. But what made me think of your video is that there were scenes of the fire here where the houses were completely engulfed in flames but the cement and brick structures were holding up. Something to think about while living in Russia. If someone local wants to build with cement, maybe that’s not a bad idea!

Your costs in Russia. Are very similar to what it costs me to do the same things by myself in rural Wisconsin in the US. I am in the process of needing to rebuild my main house. Due to a meter of ice collapsing my roof a year and a half ago. All that weight. Pulled the nails out of the 80+ year old home made roof trusses. And my roof flattened out. Also pushing the walls part way out. So I will be rebuilding the entire house on the existing cement foundation. I will be reusing the cabinets, interior walls, plumbing, light fixtures and probably the origional floors. I will replace the entire roof, outside walls, doors and windows. The house is 25 feet/7.62 meters. By 48 feet/15.2 meters. I am building by stacking solid walls of 2x8 inch construction lumber. Like stacking logs. Glue and construction screws holding each layer of lumber down. I will be using factory built roof trusses. 50 % more trusses then required by building codes for my region. I do not ever want the roof to collapse again. Using graded and inspected lumber. I will need 890, 10 foot long boards. A little over 3 meters each. I will be able to rebuild for $20,000.oo. or roughly 2 million rubels. If I put in all new floors, interior walls and everything. Only reusing the foundation. I can build all new for about $35,000.oo. Or 3.5 million rubles. I will have thick, solid walls. Able to withstand the worst storms. Even tornados. No chance of drafts, insects or rodents getting in. And I can always add a layer of insulation at a later time if needed. All my own labor. Except for paying professionals to build my roof. Which I included in the costs. I am also buying a finger jointing router bit. To have a strong glued connection where the ends of two boards come together.

The fence looks great Dan, the investment is worth it and she picked out great color! Hiring jobs out is something people need to learn. We are not subject matter experts on everything and when you need something done right. Hire the right person for the job!

When you need to buy welding equipment and so on..... Then you also spend money. OK you still can use that later or sell it.
