He isn't defending Antifa, nor the violence that does occur. He's simply pointing out the media's sensationalization of violence because it sells more headlines. The Capitol terrorist attack was bad because it was violent, and the violence that occurs as part of antifa-related gatherings is also bad for the same reason. Focusing solely on violence shows you a tiny fragment of the entire picture -- why are they protesting? What else was going on when this happened? When and how did the violence start? These questions are ignored and the blame for violence is immediately -- and mostly _erroneously_ -- tied to the protestors. When the only thing the media focuses on is the violence, they overlook the purpose of the demonstration and ignore the real problems facing society. The more we let the fears of the vocal minorities dominate what we see in the news, the more we inadvertently shut ourselves off from our problems and inevitably set ourselves up for the cycle to repeat itself. Keep the peace, acknowledge and denounce violence, and most importantly _know what was being protested_ .
@@mallow5828 I actually agree with this point but I don’t get why the point needs to be made. In the case of the BLM protests the violence and the message of the protests were both widely acknowledged and known. So I don’t see the point of saying to not ignore the motivation of the protests when it already isn’t ignored. Maybe there’s a case of this happening I’m not thinking of but from the looks of it to me the violence and the motivation of a protest are usually known. I guess that’s one of the reasons I didn’t like the vid, the point was true but unnecessary which made it come off as vox trying to down play antifa
@@mezo72271 There were only 25 deaths during the summer BLM protests, and most of the violence that caused the damage can be attributed to police intervention. Most people believe in equal rights for men and women, but they don't call themselves feminists. Most people believe that everyone should get what they need and give what they can, but they don't call themselves communists. Most people believe that fascists suck, but they don't call themselves Antifa. It doesn't matter how organizations or ideologies define themselves, it matters what they do, and whether their actions convince others to be sympathetic to their cause. "Your identity is a negotiated concept. It's not just what you think you are, but what others determine you to be" (Jordan Peterson).
@Michael McCarty Yes, most people don't put their actions where their mouth is. The NSDAP in Germany was heavily disagreed with. After much moaning and wringing of hands they were stopped and WW2 didn't happen. Oh wait ...
It doesn't matter what you believe. As soon as they label you the enemy, you are accosted. That's how the fascist operate, using fear and intimidation. You don't truly know a fascist by what they believe. You know them by what they do. This guy is an apologist for the fascist antifags. He is just as culpable for EVERY One of their crimes to come.
Being against facism does not mean to agree with antifa. Just because a group of people gives itself a title that is inherently agreeable it doesn't mean that the group itself is agreeable or deserving of that title, you know. The official self-chosen name of North Korea is Democratic People's Republic of Korea. So I guess they're democratic and if you oppose them, you must hate democracy. See how stupid that sounds?
I've been to the portland protests, they typically make up the majority of the confrontations between the different groups of demonstrators. I was threatened for having blonde hair, having a camera, and asking the antifa black bloc members questions about their views. Most of their answers were literally "Beating fascists" rather then any actual political views. It should be the norm that protestors are peaceful, but antifa are specifically and intentionally violent, and make the majority of the confrontations between protests. Vox should be ashamed for posting such a dumb video. They are defending antifa, which openly admits to being a group about committing violence, while vox would never, have never, and will never, make a video defending antifa's right wing counterparts, the alt right.
Huh, interesting how a word used largely in Europe plays over in America. "Antifa" has been in the vocabulary of European protest movements for decades, mostly in correlation with protests against actual Neo-nazism and fascistic governments due to 20th century history. The anti-racism and pro-immigration bias was only fairly recently added; much of it comes from the situation in the US and Europe has picked it up ever since the early 2000s. Apart from that: You really do see the bias of Vox in this video: "[...] where a small group of outliers end up dominating news coverage.", which is not only true for Antifa, but basically every radical protest group, from neonazis, race surpremacists to anarchists. Just look at the recent G20 summit and the massive presence of protestors, mainly from the radical left. What bothers me with American coverage of these things is that it transplants an American situation into a different movement without any reflection at all. In turn, this will reverberate across the world and sometimes even harm the original cause.
Antifa in Europe has also been tied to communist and socialist parties, and has been responsible for assaulting, destroying property, etc. of those that they disagree with. A lot of Antifa symbolism, from the red and black colors, to the anarchist symbol, and the utilization of the USSR and anarcho-communist flags in protest, is communist/socialist symbolism. As in the ideology that wants to take over all the government, and proceed to ironically collapse it whilst having a command economy in which a public entity, "the people," seize the means of production, and ironically force everyone to comply with what should be produced, distributed, etc. Not only that, but communism has a record for crashing economic growth throughout countries that it used to occupy (communists see the collapse of an economy as victory). Some economies went from producing enough goods such as food, housing, etc. to having major shortages because the public entity wanted everyone to be equal, and to only get enough things as the next person, not only that, but since businesses were non-existent during communist revolutions, there was no variety of anything since all industries would get "nationalized."
@@DerAua people ask antifa questions you know what most do? No comment they don't even speak, how are people supposed to communicate with actual dumb asses that don't even know why they're there in the first place

Poor analysis on the impact of antifa. Arrest numbers don’t mean anything, especially in Portland where cops play a passive role. What’s more relevant is the commonality between antifa and anarchist ideologies. The millions of dollars of damage they’ve done in Portland alone to small businesses is absurd and saddening.
I don't care about who is worse than the other, I care about who is currently assaulting innocent people, setting fire to entire neighborhoods and working hard towards the destruction of the country - and currently, that's not the far Right.

Strange how he criticizes the media for only showing violent (outlier) protesters but has no problem with the media only showing violent (outlier) police. It’s a bit hypocritical if you ask me.
1. The Police is exponentially more violent in the ongoing protests.
2. They're a public institution that's supposed to keep the law. That makes it orders of magnitude worse when they brake it.
Lan Gradišek The police have no choice but to use more force when dealing with protesters that are breaking the law/not cooperating. The reason some police have gotten more violent is because the protesters must have become more violent as well.
@@jayshockey4886 1. You'd think that would be the case yes, and if it were, sure no problem. However, the police is attacking, in some cases even kidnapping (no rights cited) PEACEFUL protesters. Enough video evidences to prove how "Good" the antifas are lol. They are extremists, racists, bigots, violent group. And also they harrass and beat up people they disagree with. If antifas start showing up where i am from they will be burried before they brainwash people.
Using this guys logic I could say, the capital riot wasn’t bad because only a few people died
I guess that’s one of the reasons I didn’t like the vid, the point was true but unnecessary which made it come off as vox trying to down play antifa
uhh no you couldn't
We can finally say the capitol riot was a mostly peaceful protest, as Cuomo and Don Lemon would say. Summer=$2 billion in damages, 150 death
@@mezo72271 There were only 25 deaths during the summer BLM protests, and most of the violence that caused the damage can be attributed to police intervention. The terrorists that stormed the Capitol were planning on killing politicians (including Vice President Pence) and caused a fifth of the amount of BLM protest-related deaths in four months in one afternoon.

Oh wait ...

In turn, this will reverberate across the world and sometimes even harm the original cause.
but antifa is not peaceful even in europe, and their sites also love saying violence.
It was communism first now it’s anarchism.
