Love the video, just found you guys after a few months doing linear progression. Glad to see some real doctors in this space. Just a quick note, you might want to think about getting a teleprompter setup. This will allow you to look straight into the camera while not having to memorize everything you want to say. This would definitely up your production even more.

In reference to all the other comments, it's called a "confidence monitor" which we often install in the AV industry in boardrooms for the presenter. But I had the same thoughts. If the confidence monitor was directly behind and slightly above or below the camera, the production would be greatly increased.

Hei, Jordan. Love these short, infovids. Was wondering if you plan on making one about stretching/taping/rolling etc. These things still come up a lot in my everyday training life. I meet people who have zealous vigor in defending these methods and yet I am not sure there is a sweet and condensed source I could refer to when considering the effectivness of them.
Doing research myself is fairly impossible, considering I can not even understand whether the research and methods were done and applied corectly. That is why I value the knowledge and work you and them BBM team do - you are a source I feel I can trust and have a clear goal of helping humanity.

I think the best way to actually plant a seed in a foam roller's mind is to acknowledge that they are allowed to do it. It's okay to do something to feel better and you shouldn't act like you are better than them because you don't do it. When I explain it this way they often seem less defensive and more willing to listen to what you have to say. That's where I can mention that most the "active recovery" techniques just haven't shown reliable data in accelerating recovery. It's valid to do something if it makes you feel better, because that can matter. But I'd rather not be dependent on something that doesn't have a scientific backing showing that it's actually doing anything.

the only time i stretch is my hams for squatting. Why would you want to stretch out and limber something that's supposed to be tight and hold the burden of heavy weight in repeated movement? The only reason to stretch for lifting is to improve your form on compound lifts.

Small performance improvement, but runny belly, sour 💩, addictive, pushing body above limits, sleep interuption, anger etcc. I would go for the caffeine in tea(teanine) and in moderation. Fascinating stuff, you have a new subscriber in me. Question, at 6:20 you talk about how caffeine gum and similar methods get the caffeine into the blood stream faster. I find caffeine from coffee takes about half an hour to affect me but more importantly 12-15 hours to wear off. That 12-15 hours makes for some logistical difficulties in my life. I've often wished I had some form of caffeine consumption that would wear off more quickly. Do any of these methods make the caffeine wear off faster also?
Possibly related, about twenty years ago I was diagnosed with slow digestion. The doctor prescribed reglan (Metoclopramide) but I found it causes significant depression for me so I discontinued it. I've wondered if my slow digestion and how long caffeine takes to wear off for me might be related.

11:20 I find, personally, that the only way for me to break the coffee cycle is to take one week off every two months, so on the first day of every odd month I'll take a week off of caffeine, and then when I start back up, I start with 1 cup, work up to 2 cups, and usually end the "on" cycle with 3 cups. Sometimes I try to time it with a deload week, too, to make it easier. This might help someone who's prone to addiction.

I used to love having caffeinated drinks but my cardiologist said to never drink it again because I was diagnosed a very mild heart condition called mitral regurgitation and I also have some kind of perpencity to really low blood pressure. My cardiologist never gave me a real answer as to why I couldn’t have caffeine he just said “the best athletes are only ruined when they consume caffeine then they pass out during a squat and get injured”. Or he would say caffeine lowers blood pressure and blood volume yet every study I’ve looked at shows the exact opposite and I’ve asked why multiple times and I’ve brought up that there’s a lot of studies showing against his words but he doesn’t care and doesn’t listen

Not a good idea to be a habitual user of caffeine. It lowers iron absorption, especially if you consume the superior caffeinated beverage known as tea which has far more benefits and is longer lasting than coffee. Many people are iron deficient and don't realize it.
Just to name a few problems with regular caffeine consumption:
Caffeine is a diuretic and therefore causes your body to excrete many water soluble vitamins such as vitamin c and the b vitamins.
Caffeine requires more and more in greater doses to get the same rush as when you drank your first cup. This causes disruptions in sleep cycles and is the main culprit of the 2:30 feeling you get at work when you begin to just slump in performance and reach for even more caffeine.
Last and as bad as the prior, caffeine DRASTICALLY reduces absorption of iron into the body. This has a far greater impact on habitual users that consume caffeine everyday. The greater the amount you consume, the longer it takes to get out of your body, thus continuing to inhibit any iron absorption by up to 40% if consumed in the form of black tea. I was anaemic from not getting enough iron, I lost my hair, my ability to get an erection, I was having difficulty breathing, coupled with weird heart palpitations, and a generally anxious feeling. The worst part is that it takes a whopping SIX MONTHS to rebuild iron stores. So if you're drinking caffeine daily, you're inhibiting the absorption of iron and therefore you won't build up iron stores to where they should be.
How do you know if you're anaemic? Pull down your eye lids and if they're milky white, that means your body isn't circulating blood properly as a result of a lack of hemoglobin transporting throughout the body. Iron creates healthy red blood cells and boosts circulation throughout the body.
I went on keto and quit caffeine and nearly all of my problems mentioned, went away after about a couple months. My hair is even growing back in and my erectile dysfunction is gone.
    tl;dr
Don't drink caffeine unless you ABSOLUTELY NEED IT, unless being anaemic, depressed, and low energy is your thing.

I greatly appreciate the video, you had quite a bit of good information. But my curiosity revolved around the relationship between caffeine and the nervous system. From what I understand caffeine stimulates the nervous system and the "crash" one would experience after consuming caffeine would be related to the nervous system. I'd love any insight on short term to long term affects of caffeine consumption on the nervous system.

I much prefer beta-alanine in comparison to caffeine for my workouts. When i take caffeine and push myself to the limit i almost feel lime i am going to throw up. And this is 5-6hours having drank some. Normally it doesnt do this. Caffeine taxes the central nervous system and keeps the heart beating faster than if someone had no consumed caffeine witch also is extra energy wasted by the body. I notice my workout duration is about 30% longer/better with beta-alanine. Although caffeine is purported as one of the best PRE workouts by many in the fitness industry i find for alot of people it can actually tax the body more when someone is pushing at closer to maximal exertion. For example after doing a set of 195 having taking caffeine as a pre workout.. 3 mins later for my next set my heart.. body still feels tense and my hr is still higher than it would be have i had not taken caffeine. ON the other hand with beta-alanine in between my sets after 3 min or so i feel much more recovered for my next set and feel that my heart rate is even lower. Witch in turn leads me having more cns strength to perform my next set at maximal reps.

You wanna know how caffeine is effecting you? If you use it every day, go without it for a week and see how you feel. I was completely exhausted and constantly falling asleep and felt like shit, so withdrawal, which means addiction, shits not good to use on a regular basis. Didn't matter how much or at what time of day I had caffeine but it fucked up my sleep big time. And as an example I would have anywhere from 150-400mg a day.

And just because you felt the need to use caffeine to stay awake doesn't mean it's an excuse to say that it's okay to use on a regular basis, it's still a drug that has negative health effects when used as a dependency and abused on a daily basis.
