charley15z I think Kylo killed Snoke out of a combo of being sick of his abuse, wanting power AND wanting to save Rey. I do think he would've killed Snoke eventually, but Rey's life being in danger sped everything up and he was just like "yeah, we're doing this shit now." Kylo's a complicated dude, I don't think there's ever just one simple reason for why he does what he does. But I do think it's ignoring all their previous interactions in the movie to say that his feelings for Rey played no part in his decision to kill Snoke. Otherwise why would he extend that awful Mr. Darcy proposal afterward?

Sauron Merciful But when I first heard about what Daisy did on her first day of shooting, I was like, "Jeez, what's her problem? Can this woman handle some sort of honest feedback politely? And that TFA made more than $2 billion, you should be happy about the success you had afterwards starting in a major franchise. You don't have to act like a total spaz because of it!" And at that moment, little did I know that later on, I was going to regret saying that for the rest of my life.
It's important to actually pay attention to what she's saying, she's not actually confirming that the character has no weaknesses. When she's asked afterwards, "Do you believe she has any inherent weaknesses?" She doesn't simply respond "No," but say "I don't really believe in weaknesses in people." In other words, she's posing the question, "What do you mean by the word weakness?" By her definition most characters who we think of as having obvious weaknesses simply have things they can work on, as opposed to just being flawed. And based on her wording, she seems to believe a weakness in the way many people think of the word is something that cannot be fixed and will never change. I may disagree with her and argue the way that Rey continually latches onto parental figures that end up disappointing her and leaving her vulnerable is a serious, gaping flaw, and an especially dangerous one not only for her, but for the galaxy, since someone with her power who doesn't understand her emotional experience in a similar way to an adolescent poses a serious threat to the world, which is why Luke is so afraid of her after that first lesson. But I understand where she's coming from and I think it's a respectable position that needs to be heard. I wonder if one reason people like Darth Vader so much is that he is both deeply flawed and never really changes in a meaningful way until the very end of Return of the Jedi. He is damaged in a way that satisfies those who think a character should be flawed regardless of context, and yet he always remains the same, because he has ceased to be a human being and turns into a nostalgic symbol of cool, unfeeling evil. He's basically the Star Wars equivalent to Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion if he did cool things now and then, while Rey is closer to Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. And if you specifically read the manga of Nausicaa rather than just watching the movie, you'll find that there's an established precedent for characters like Rey, where the focus is not that she has this amazing power, but rather the implications of that power on the rules of the universe. Just my two cents.
Interesting take. I think she is aware of the criticism of Rey as a character and this is her attempt to over-intellectualize as a means of obfuscating. I think the question makes her uncomfortable because it is a criticism of those who have given her this fantastic opportunity. That's why I don't judge her too harshly. Re. the anime examples you cited. Storytelling in anime and manga tend to be VERY different. The pacing, the character arcs, he dialogue etc. Anime is an acquired taste. It would be a strange choice if they used anime inspired character arcs in this film. Then again they made a lot of strange decisions. I think most of what is there is just poor character development.
Sam Coates I don't know if I'd say she's overintellectualizing anything. Daisy Ridley is an actor, not the writer. She portrays the character as it is written. I think people often make the mistake of asking actors deep insightful questions about characterization that are much better suited for writers or directors. Daisy Ridley's job isn't to think about Rey's flaws or inconsistencies in the scheme of galactic events, merely to understand her moment by moment while on-camera. The former is a writer's job, and so they are the ones with the answers. Ridley's reaction here to the question about flaws was a personal one, based entirely on her own personal views. I don't think at all that she understood that question to be a reference to the accusation that Rey is obnoxiously flawless in the scheme of the overall storyline (which she isn't).
6:21 I was crying too Daisy it was so devastating for me because him and Luke all the other people I knew were my childhood heroes and Kylo took all that away by killing Han.
I don’t care if you think Rey is a Mary sue(she’s only as much as Luke or Anakin was), but calling daisy a Mary Sue is stupid, immature, and disgraceful. It’s sad to think such idiots are a part of the Star Wars fandom.
Julia Crawford Luke and Anakin had many Flaws while Rey had little to none and the reason why people are calling Daisy stupid is because she still refuses to acknowledge that her character is very poorly written and had plenty of time to research on what makes a character a Mary Sue.
Jithin Joseph in case you hadn't noticed dumbass Rey has had no development and easily bested Kylo Ren and on top of that Snoke is also a joke who easily gets killed by that guy. When a character has bested a primary antagonist in a story after their first fight then what's left? She has nothing to improve on since she's already proven to be powerful which is one of the many reasons why she's hated and called a Mary Sue. If you SJWs and feminazis can't get that through your thick skulls then you'll end up being miserable for the rest of your lives.
I'd say she's pretty intelligent and self doubting but she's always been privileged and sheltered so these things about Mary Sue and having no flaws comes off as more naive to me
I'm trying to watch it until the end to see how many names she can drop in 30 minutes. it's minute 22, she dropped like 7-8, 5 of them unrelated to the questions, can't watch anymore.
I think Daisy Ridley is a great actress. It’s not her fault that Ray is not pretrade in a better way I think her training got pushed aside in the second movie. But the last Jedi is a terrible movie anyways. I think she’s a nice person and I enjoy her in the force awakens.
Is she maybe a Mary Sue? but if she is, she is definitely a remarkable one. let's be honest, all the stories have a Mary Sue or Gary Stu, but if there are any, it does not mean it's a bad story or that they are bad actors
“I don’t believe in weaknesses.” Okay, fair enough. But why is that every main male character in the whole film’s arc was focused on them realizing their weaknesses? Now, they worked on them and became better which is cool and lines up with her way of thinking but WHY was every main female character seemingly wise or correct from the get go or the people that taught the men where they were wrong? This isn’t me making this “men vs women” because to me neither sex is better than the other and to be treated equally and it is, in my opinion, the film that seemed to make it the opposite and have the scales severely tipped for female characters who only taught and never learned. Ridley deflecting from simply naming a single human weakness she believes Rey to have along with her faulty logic behind her reaction to previous “Mary Sue” accusations aren’t doing any favors for those who disagree with me. I’d love to be proven wrong. Not hating on the film for having flawed men. The best characters are flawed. But why were the female characters not as deep and human? It felt intentional and transparent and is one of the reasons despite all the non-Luke/Rey/Ren scenes that make me view the film as more of a modern political propaganda fluff piece rather than the universal, fairly balanced Star War tales of old.
Can people just give her a break? She has a giant corporate mouse with A grade lawyers for teeth breathing down her neck. She has to be extremely careful with her words.
I hope you have a great future as an actress. Actress not Actor. Women and Men. Stop them blurring the lines. Equality for all. BUT. keep the distinction clear. EQUALITY. INCLUSION. ACCEPTANCE. DIFFERENCE. HOPE. HARMONY. PEACE. MUCH LOVE.
10:50 So she doesn't believe in weaknesses in people. And she says that you can't decide what's good or bad in a person. Uh, ooookkkaaayyy.... And going by Daisy's definitions, Jeffrey Dahmer was quirky. Adolf Hitler was just picky. Joseph Stalin was just irritable. Pol Post just had some anger issues. LMAO In another interview Daisy said that we all had flaws and that's part of who people are. Now it seems she recognizes that people don't have any. And Daisy wonders why no one takes her seriously.
does anyone know what this new trilogy is about or why the rey character is involved???? yeah me neither rey has bypassed being just a mary sue and is now a full blown deus ex machina
Why didn't she share skills with Snoke then? He touched her too didn't he? Yes he did. It's just a poor attempt at damage control wrapped in unnecessary "DLC" which is a book I have no interest in reading. So has Rey gotten Snokes dark side abilities and knowledge too?
Yeah Daisy basically says it herself. Rey, despite having been abandoned as a child, has no demonstrable effects of abandonment. In addition to that, she has every skill needed to overcome the challenges she faces, learns the force through osmosis, needs no help from her companions, defeats the main villain single-handedly, tries to convince a former legend to help his friends and family, beats him in a brief duel after catching him in a lie, tries to redeem her chief antagonist, then rescues her friends herself from certain destruction... so yeah... Mary Sue.
Sam Coates Luke was holding back on Rey and he did defeat her, knocking her staff away. Rey just then pulled a lightsaber on him. But later on in the video Daisy does say herself that Rey has no weaknesses.
I don't think either of them were going full force, plus he had cut himself off from the force. But still, just like with the fight with Kylo, there is a half ass rationale but the result is the same. Rey prevails no matter how implausible or bad for the overall story/franchise it is. She has Luke down in the dirt with the lightsaber at his throat as he cowers below her. She beat him and makes him look totally pathetic. Rey has no weaknesses because the president of Lucasfilm felt that little girls (their new target audience) would feel disempowered if Rey went through the same sort of struggles Luke went through. So "equality" demands that Rey be superior to Luke in every conceivable way and that Luke now be a shadow of his former self. Passing the baton to the next generation means that you have to destroy the legacy of the characters from the original trilogy (well...except Leia).
Sam Coates that makes total sense. In ROTJ Luke tells her "In time, you'll learn to use it [the force] as I have." She's also a skywalker and it makes sense that she trained somewhat in the force or Luke trained her a bit.
Sam Coates play a better character, problem solved. Some great actors have had to play rotter, boring characters and Marty Stues. It's the character and writers not the human that sucks.
Exactly! It's astonishing she cant see what the question was asking. Either that or she knows the character has no flaws and is just ducking the question. Hard to say which is worse.
well actually flaw is just a quality or characteristic of a person which you find negative, but someone else might find it positive and would then call it a strength. It also depends on the situation in some situations handling slow and patient might be a liability while in some it would be required and would lead to the best result. Just how reacting quickly might be good in some situations where is one others it would cause more trouble. Qualities can be both good and bad and are often seen variously by various people who judge it according to situation or their own opinion of how it should be handled or according to whether they find these qualities good or perhaps they posses the same ones and that'a why they find them the more reliable ones and the right ones. It's just a matter of view so I can understand her choice to see qualities as a positive thing. :-) just a little clarification, conflicts issue when people don't understand the other side
Veronika Machytkova your comment made no sense in the context of defending the ma Rey sue title... she is the prime example of a Mary Sue (a character that can not fail at anything with no reason at all except for the writer chose them to be that way)
Anytime someone disses the actual human sunshine Daisy in these comments or voices support of the bullshit abusive relationship that is Reylo I literally nearly vomit. 🙄
Grow up. If you think that then why did you click on the video? P.S. She isn't a Mary Sue. It's already been explained that she shares Kylo's strengths and skills through their force bond.
iluvlafferty Weak ass writing to excuse the poorly written character that is Ma-Rey Sue. If Force users could do this, this would make training completely pointless for both Jedi and Sith.
What would you prefer? A boring copy of the Originals with Rey being a Skywalker? No thanks. I'm pleased that we got a different explanation other than "it's in the bloodline."
iluvlafferty No. I'd prefer a character who has to work for what they have, who fails from time to time, who is actually in some way connectable to on some human level. But, instead, we get Ms. Completely Flawless who can do whatever she wants, and never faces any kind of adversity which challenges her. That's just fucking ridiculously lazy writing. And, it's done mostly because she's female. Don't say it's not because she's a woman. We all know Kathleen Kennedy, the head of creative decisions for Lucas Films, is a feminist. She purposely made Rey this way. And, this is why she's a horrible character.
If that's your opinion well, then, I respect that. But it was stressed early on that Kylo and Rey "shared skills and emotions" in the interrogation scene. JJ Abrams and Larry Kasdan had described it as an "energy" in the script. That is why Rey could see into Kylo's mind. She was probably already drawing from his strength.
You have 'Star Wars' in your name, yet you don't have a clue that Rey shares skills with Kylo through the force and therefore isn't simply a Mary Sue. Not a Star Wars fan, then?
i dont blame her too much . she is not a great actress but her lines are terrible . i blame a director who would allow this teen to knock down Master Luke. This is why we hate her character.
She doesn't really believe in weaknesses in people because you can't decide what's good or bad in a person because the whole is greater than the sum of the parts? lol That sounds like an offshoot of Disney's BS shift away from the "good must triumph over evil" theme to the "both are necessary" meme in my opinion (which sounds like a social engineering to me).
Midgee She is not a Mary Sue. The only reason why she beat Kylo in Force Awakens is because Kylo was both physically and mentally damaged and he wasn't trying to kill her. And when she fought Luke in Last Jedi, Luke easily won that fight but he only fell backwards because Rey igniting the lightsaber scared him
sry Daisy but dont care enough about you to like or hate you . get some acting and fighting lessons pls . meh . im done with this new trilogy . its pointless for me . if they bring balance to the force with this reylo BS - then the whole point of SW is over. no conflict - no story.
she is a charwoman, nothing more. A kitchen maid. That's about it. She obviously comes from a family of rich elites. Why the hell else would she be working as a major film star in anything?
No one recognized Kelly Marie Tran in public cuz all Asians look similar and she's super basic-looking, and her character is very forgettable and pointless.

Daisy Ridley shouldn't have to be put with any of that crap to be honestly.
That also reminded of that time when I slowly got into Star Wars from this video.
0:32 of ruclips.net/video/TUusoBsEC9Y/видео.html
When news broke that Daisy almost quit on her first day of shooting all because J.J. Abrams called her performance "wooden", no one's buying it. People are looking at Daisy like she's a freaking coward.
Don't believe me? Read the comment by a user named "DarwinsMoth" in the comment section of that video.
Hannah Traveller
The more comments I see from this video, the more I'm at risk of getting cancer.
Sauron Merciful
But when I first heard about what Daisy did on her first day of shooting, I was like, "Jeez, what's her problem? Can this woman handle some sort of honest feedback politely? And that TFA made more than $2 billion, you should be happy about the success you had afterwards starting in a major franchise. You don't have to act like a total spaz because of it!"
And at that moment, little did I know that later on, I was going to regret saying that for the rest of my life.
I feel sorry for her she's very sweet and she doesn't deserve any back lash for the fact The Last Jedi was terrible.
yep , its not her fault . its Johnson's for filling her head with his nonsense..
Michael Shaughnessy I totally agree with you.
Great
I love Daisy Ridley
She's so pretty !
She’s a Goddess
Love her!
Daisy is adorable
"I'm quite trusting... I'm becoming a LITTLE bit more cynical.."
ouch. There's so much implication there. 😢
Woah woah woah, did she just confirm her parents are nothing? She said it so casually she clearly said it off the top of her head.
I love you rey babe
6:21 I was crying too Daisy it was so devastating for me because him and Luke all the other people I knew were my childhood heroes and Kylo took all that away by killing Han.
I dont think you guys know how much i love Daisy
keep it to yourself , no one cares . i love Darth Maul and would love to see it fuck up Reylo.
Spone Mr keep your prequel fanboying to yourself
Spone Mr you want to fuck darth maul
My last name is Gutierrez are you chilean?
Jithin Joseph if rey is not mary sue why people are mad 😂
Jithin Joseph yes they know i know and rey is definetly mary sue. I have nothing against daisy but her charecter is just worst
Jithin Joseph they do actually know but you on the other hand don't otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place.
2 colored hair? or is it just me?
Yes he is , Kylo will come too the Light and Truth
bruhhhhh
how funny
I wanna stay with Rey i wanna live with Rey
Yo what up Reylo fam :)
Ben is dead 😄😄👍
My question is where is the landfill going to be at were all the unsold DVD/Blue-rays will get dumped?
hopefully in a galaxy far far away...
Hi rey
32:58 what happened? 😀
I'd say she's pretty intelligent and self doubting but she's always been privileged and sheltered so these things about Mary Sue and having no flaws comes off as more naive to me
She's amazing, so positive! Yea and #Reylowins :D suck it haters!
All you got was a forced thank you kiss and now ben is dead 😄😄 rip to your toxic ship
I'm trying to watch it until the end to see how many names she can drop in 30 minutes. it's minute 22, she dropped like 7-8, 5 of them unrelated to the questions, can't watch anymore.
You need some better reasons to sit and watch things...
What do you mean you don't believe in weaknesses in people? Villains are full of negatives
I think Daisy Ridley is a great actress. It’s not her fault that Ray is not pretrade in a better way I think her training got pushed aside in the second movie. But the last Jedi is a terrible movie anyways. I think she’s a nice person and I enjoy her in the force awakens.
Yea she would have thought he wasn't irredeemable....
...cuz she's a Mary Sue!!!
i got a guistion do you like men or girls
Se parece a Harry Styles
@andiguiterrez please delete all these thought deprived bs comments.
Rey i live in Honolulu Hawaii Schofield baricks Charlton candy street
I want rey to kiss my lips i will kiss rey lips Back
Is she maybe a Mary Sue? but if she is, she is definitely a remarkable one. let's be honest, all the stories have a Mary Sue or Gary Stu, but if there are any, it does not mean it's a bad story or that they are bad actors
exactly - i dont care if she is a mary sue . i want a good story and good actors - both of which are very lacking in TLJ .
The story group was so bad. The editing was suck ass.
Some of you fanboys are ridiculous. It's a movie, people.
Don't get your panties in a bunch.
They may go overboard, but even the general audience wasn't very satisfied with the film and let down.
14:37
What do you like to eat.
Can people just give her a break? She has a giant corporate mouse with A grade lawyers for teeth breathing down her neck.
She has to be extremely careful with her words.
Yeah, I don't blame her. She didn't write the character.
Hi everyone. I like Rey and Daisy Ridley AND I don't think her character is a Mary Sue. :)
A character that always wins and doesn´t have any weaknesses is always a mary sue.
That's nice.
I hope ur a Skywalker
bruh
lmao
now that the menpire has been defeated its like the only gender that can play main is female
I hope you have a great future as an actress. Actress not Actor. Women and Men. Stop them blurring the lines. Equality for all.
BUT. keep the distinction clear.
EQUALITY. INCLUSION. ACCEPTANCE. DIFFERENCE. HOPE. HARMONY. PEACE.
MUCH LOVE.
In 10 years. long time in our life span.
WILL IT MEAN THAT MUCH?
Equality would mean both could use the same title. There's nothing that makes the title "actor" male specific.
LMAO
In another interview Daisy said that we all had flaws and that's part of who people are. Now it seems she recognizes that people don't have any.
And Daisy wonders why no one takes her seriously.
does anyone know what this new trilogy is about or why the rey character is involved???? yeah me neither
rey has bypassed being just a mary sue and is now a full blown deus ex machina
terrible questions
terrible answer
Came here just to drop a MARY SUE!!!!
You haven't done your research, have you? REY SHARES SKILLS WITH KYLO THROUGH THE FORCE.
Why didn't she share skills with Snoke then? He touched her too didn't he? Yes he did. It's just a poor attempt at damage control wrapped in unnecessary "DLC" which is a book I have no interest in reading. So has Rey gotten Snokes dark side abilities and knowledge too?
Marlo Hansen I got your back you can always tell who rides the D the hardest.
I still can't believe how much white knighting people are doing for Ray let alone episodes 7 and 8.
MARY SUE! IN TFA!
Interviewer needs work. Nervous and awkward the entire time. Just have a conversation.
Kinda hard to with an airhead.
A oscar for the best Mary Sue actress ;)
They should give her a Razzie for her performance.
more and more comes out villa behind the scenes paper trail and this IS A REALLY BAD MOVIE! SAD!
I wonder What Daisy dislike with The Last Jedi
7:41 Rey is a Mary Sue. My favorite thing about Rey is Daisy Ridley.
Leia is now super powerful in the force all of a sudden.
Sam Coates that makes total sense. In ROTJ Luke tells her "In time, you'll learn to use it [the force] as I have." She's also a skywalker and it makes sense that she trained somewhat in the force or Luke trained her a bit.
i know she is british but she is a stereotypical British
I think the Mary Sue question will always follow, Daisy Ridley throughout her career. She needs to have a better response.
Sam Coates play a better character, problem solved. Some great actors have had to play rotter, boring characters and Marty Stues. It's the character and writers not the human that sucks.
As figured no hard questions about the obvious that everyone hated the new movie.
Therefore proving that not everyone hated the movie. You guys are relentless and tedious.
Mary Rey Sue
WRONG!!
TOTALLY WRONG!!!!
I hate to say it. "MARRY SUE" ! flaws are the fun parts of this type of story!
Exactly! It's astonishing she cant see what the question was asking. Either that or she knows the character has no flaws and is just ducking the question. Hard to say which is worse.
Sam Coates i wish her agent just explain what marry sue means to her. i dont think she is but its so annoying how she calls it sexist
Cole Schubert
Yeah. It's easier to call it sexist and try to demonize those criticizing you. I think this is willful ignorance.
well actually flaw is just a quality or characteristic of a person which you find negative, but someone else might find it positive and would then call it a strength.
Hannah Traveller
The comment section in this video is basically nothing but a JOKE.
Very cherry picked interview
It's the Star Wars show, it's not a fucking Presidential debate...
We need more pics of your feet, Dais. Your Wikifeet page is very poor.
Mary Sue Q and A Star Wars: The Last Jedi
i fixed ur title
Grow up. If you think that then why did you click on the video? P.S. She isn't a Mary Sue. It's already been explained that she shares Kylo's strengths and skills through their force bond.
iluvlafferty
Weak ass writing to excuse the poorly written character that is Ma-Rey Sue. If Force users could do this, this would make training completely pointless for both Jedi and Sith.
What would you prefer? A boring copy of the Originals with Rey being a Skywalker? No thanks. I'm pleased that we got a different explanation other than "it's in the bloodline."
iluvlafferty
No.
Mary Sueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
You have 'Star Wars' in your name, yet you don't have a clue that Rey shares skills with Kylo through the force and therefore isn't simply a Mary Sue.
Not a Star Wars fan, then?
iluvlafferty such a garbage invented way to justify her mary sue bullshit. Lets say it together " MARY SUEEEEEEEEEEE"
*MA REY SUE
star wars killer 123 battlefront guy you are Real star wars killer go play murdered soul suspect and f yourself
look people like you are fucked up soooooo go deal with it
So no Star Wars fan recognized the actress who played Rose Tico ? Well that's probably because she's Asian, and they all look a like.
I see a lot of Ma-Rey Sue apologists in this comment section. The butthurt is strong with these ones.
Jeremiah Vander Weken butthurt is strong with you ugly fat fuck
Yongsforlife
The salt is even stronger with this one.
Jeremiah Vander Weken your overconfidence is your weakness
Cole Schubert so true
i dont blame her too much . she is not a great actress but her lines are terrible . i blame a director who would allow this teen to knock down Master Luke.
Quit training backwards and getting all mushed up about a cliche over done piece of space junk, co-ns-pi-rat-or-s! #Lukehasyoursixordoeshe
How can anyone like a character without development or weakness?
Mary sue Mary sue.
Mary Sue!!!
eric gtfo pls if u don't like her
He has just as much of a right to air his thoughts as you do.
She 100% is a Mary Sue no denial.
daisy jinn snowflake
Midgee She is not a Mary Sue. The only reason why she beat Kylo in Force Awakens is because Kylo was both physically and mentally damaged and he wasn't trying to kill her. And when she fought Luke in Last Jedi, Luke easily won that fight but he only fell backwards because Rey igniting the lightsaber scared him
whatever it is her character she didn't write her own story .
sry Daisy but dont care enough about you to like or hate you . get some acting and fighting lessons pls . Aria Stark could kick your arse.
i dont blame her too much . she is not a great actress but her lines are terrible . i blame a director who would allow this teen to knock down Master Luke. This is why we hate her character. i dont think you quite understand how disrespectful that 1 scene is .
no need to hate this girl - hate Johnson for doing this to her and probably ending her acting career for ever.
Spone Mr ending her career? are you kidding me, that movie made 1 billion dollars, her career is far from over
meh . im done with this new trilogy . its pointless for me . if they bring balance to the force with this reylo BS - then the whole point of SW is over. no conflict - no story.
Spone Mr nobody cares that you're done with it, half the population will watch the movie anyway
good , enjoy . its over and im not jumping on your bandwagon . it smells.
she is a charwoman, nothing more. A kitchen maid. That's about it. She obviously comes from a family of rich elites. Why the hell else would she be working as a major film star in anything?
No one recognized Kelly Marie Tran in public cuz all Asians look similar and she's super basic-looking, and her character is very forgettable and pointless.
wow, just wow
