    I know this is an older video but in case you still have that grill... The end of the middle burner should fit into a tab or wire U on the bottom of the crossover burner. The rust hole you found in the frame is due to galvanic corrosion between the aluminum cook box and the steel frame. I have a couple like that as well. The bolt right there at the rust hole holds the cook box to the frame. Once it rusts through the cook box is just sitting there. If Weber had put a thin piece of high temperature insulation (maybe teflon) between the cook box and the frame it would have helped prevent the corrosion. I'm going to try this when I fix mine. These are great grills - far better than most made today. Hope you still have yours and keep it running. All the best...

      Hey Crazy4diesels thanks for that tip. What type of metal screw would you recommend? Sounds like its not aluminum or steel, so?

    • @Crazy4diesels

      @@chrisgrabowy A stainless bolt and nut would be good and I'd put a little anti-sieze on the threads.

    purchased my genesis in 2004. I rebuilt it just yesterday. the grill is like new! Most parts are still available. Love the grill. Love weber. Great customer service. They really stand behind the probuct.

      That one was from 2001ish. I got the idea to rebuild it when I saw all the parts at the local hardware store. It was so easy to do.

    That rusting spot to the left of the grill is notorious on this model. My friend, who is a welder, has repaired this problem on four older Webers, including mine. Angle iron from an old bed frame worked great.

    I have had my NG Silver B since 2001. But every spring I tear it down and give it a thorough cleaning. So far no corrosion either oxidation or galvanic
    But this year I noticed the grill would not get hotter than 400° and there was a lack of the hissing sound from the burners. So I removed, disassembled, cleaned, lubed and reassembled the gas valves.
    Problem ended up being caused by a tiny spider that passed thru the spider grates and took up residency inside an orifice where it spun a cozy web that blocked gas flow. After evicting the spider and valve tune-up every thing is like new again,
    One last note. I void using cooking sprays that contain canola oil. Canola oils leave a sticky residue so I use an avocado spray instead.

    It's better to fix an older Weber grill than buy a new one. Parts are available online & at most local hardware stores. The newer weber grills aren't made worth crap. (thinner metal, just plain cheap looking)

    You held your tape measure up to the box and measured 22.5 inches for the box - -
    but - - -the bars are set into the cook box and are 21.5 inches long.
    Also the grill I prefer is porcelon coated like on Amazon and are hollow on the underside of the cook surface.
    This makes them a LOT lighter and much easer to hold and clean.
    This Weber is a Silver Model B due to the fact that the plastic edges along the table, the lid handle are gray - but actually Silver, giving this model its name. There was a model B and C but your replacements will fit either. Just check your dimensions for which you have. The spark ignighter will fit either model.

    Replacement of the ignition and a LITTLE paint would have made this a perfect restoration ! 👍👍

    Those Weber grills are well made. I still have my Weber kettle grill and when the top started rusting, i called and to my surprise it was still under warranty from registering it. They sent me a new one. Now it's still in good shape and cooks nice. My next gas grill will be a Weber without a doubt.

    • @CTSCAPER
      @CTSCAPER  7 лет назад

      How old was the grill when you called about the warranty? If I could get that piece of the frame it would be awesome but I'm not sure they even make the part anymore. I looked at grills at the big box stores and they don't compare to a Weber but boy are they a lot cheaper.

    • @CraigArndt
      @CraigArndt 7 лет назад

      It was 9 years old. I didn't even know I had a warranty, I just called to inquire about buying a new lid. They looked it up and said I registered it and sent me one for free.

      I don't remember if I sent the warranty card in or not. I'll have to call about that rusted part.

      @@CTSCAPER Out of curiosity I looked up the warranty for my 15 year old Silver Genesis B. Some parts are lifetime (aluminum castings), some are 25y (porcelain hood), burners are 10, grates are 7, flavorizer bars are 5. Rather impressive warranty!

    My Weber grill's frame also rusted in the exact same spot on the left side of the frame! Over time it rusted out about 4" long all the way through. And I picked up a used one and it had the beginnings of rust in the same spot too!

    You should call this tune-up vs rebuild. You did a good job walking through this. My platinum C also had the lid nuts for the shield fall off, and the corrode quickly. I assume you didn’t replace the igniter?

  • @chrisryan8863
    @chrisryan8863 7 лет назад

    What a timely video. I watch your videos on landscaping but this was thought provoking. My Weber needs a tune up too and possibly needs to be replaced after 12 years. I need to see if I can replace the floor to the storage area underneath (I have doors on my version with a storage area - the floor has rusted).

      That's newer than my grill so you might be able to find the parts. I wish I got the burner for heating water or cooking with a frying pan on mine. When it's time to upgrade I'm getting that feature.

    Put a tarp down before scraping out the insides. DO NOT put any of this down your kitchen sink disposer!!!
    When cleaning out the inside, stay away from your LAWN as this stuff is caustic.
    Check your casters too and your spark ignighter.

    Nice that the parts are still available after so many years... I'd be temped to create a new bed for the grill to sit on of your own design. I always wanted to add a tub to hold clean water and the tools. Something out of a decent gauge of stainless steel would work for both of us.

    • @CTSCAPER
      @CTSCAPER  7 лет назад

      I was tempted to weld that piece of steel that rotted out but that has yet to happen. There's some hangers for the tools on the side of the grill but the dog tends to lick them when I'm grilling. My next grill is going to have the burner on the side so I can cook eggs in a frying pan on summer mornings and maybe throw some sausage on the grill. I'm getting hungry.

    • @mjallenuk
      @mjallenuk 7 лет назад

      Haha.... I confess I decided to eat before reading this...
      Mine has two grills like yours but also next to them is a flat grill which you can cook eggs and so on .... It's great for fish as you don't loose any and it's not being abused by naked flames. It also has the burner (hob) to the side but I don't use that at all.
      I'd like to make my own from scratch ... My drip tray is one big flat sheet at it's a pain to clean at the moment. I prefer yours that catches it all in a smaller container.

    Not wishing to be critical, but you should really treat your grill (especially a high dollar Weber) with a LOT more care. There is NO REASON for that grill to have looked like that at the start, and its not surprising that you have rust and loose bolts etc. I buy these neglected Webers off of CL and Letgo all day long for less than $100.00 and with as little as $200.00 in parts make them high dollar OUTSTANDING grills again.
