  • I show my favorite art supplies when traveling and creating on the go. This shows two different palette options and options for a travel kit that weighs less than a half of pound. An aquabrush (water is held in the handle) has made creating so convenient that I can take it anywhere. I included a demonstration of the process near the end of the video.
    Thank you for joining me on this journey!
    Supplies:
    Koi Watercolor Pocket Field Sketch Box 24 colors - (not the neon/pastel one)
    Pentel Aquabrush - Large
    Field Artist Watercolor Journal 3.5x3.5
    Watercolor paper that I cut is 140lb. cold press Strathmore
    White Pens: Gelly Roll or Art-n-Fly
    Uniball EYE black (waterproof)
    Prismacolor 005 black - fine tip marker

    I love those aqua brushes! I'm a nurse, and been caregiving for over 15 years. I take those aqua brushes with my watercolor kit that includes watercolor pencils to emergency departments and hospital rooms often. I can create without making a mess anywhere and still caregive while working in my sketchbook. 🖌️🖌️🖌️

    Great video! I also have a pipette in my kit (even when I’m at home I find it easier to fill the water brush that way!). Last month was the first time I’ve really done a holiday sketchbook/journal and I loved it. I carried a few loose sheets in a pocket at the back of my book but I love your idea of putting the extra paper in a little photo album! Genius! I’ve also got a homemade altoids watercolour set. It’s similar to yours with the little magnets but I bought my half pans pre-filled which was an expensive way to do it (because I haven’t got tubes!). So far I’ve mostly drawn in pen and then coloured it afterwards but I really want to practice doing the watercolour first and then just adding a few pen details at the end, like your vase demo at the end, that looked so effective!

      I use pipettes at home too. I'm continually trying different setups to find my favorite. It's become a fun obsession.

    Hi Kari, I love this video and your sweet personality. Plus you have some great tips here and your artwork is beautiful. =) I too, have my watercolors in a mini Altoids container. I have quarter pans and eleven will fit in the mini container. I didn't paint the top, I just cut a piece of plastic, from a yogurt container lid that was white and I used a piece of tape, folded to be double-sided, to hold the piece of plastic in and it works great for a mixing area. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. God bless! =)

    What type of white paint did you use for the small pallet?

    • @KariWaltz
      @KariWaltz  Год назад

      True watercolor has no white, but leaves the white of the paper. This koi set had a white which makes the paint more opaque, but it's helpful at times. I now occasionally have white gouache that I can mix with any other color.

      I looked on eBay for old cigar/ cigarette tins. They come in a large variety of sizes and shapes. So you can choose one that holds as many pans as you like. They are really cheap .
      . I used white paint on the inside of the lid for a mixing area, put my paints in pans wieh magnets on them and it works so well . I don’t paint the outside . It doesn’t look expensive so I’m not afraid of it being stolen ( like I am wieh my pricy paintboxes)
