I was in Buzios over 20 years ago with my Brazilian ex. I really loved the area, with its small towns, beaches and pousadas. What I remember with Cabo Frio is how hot it was outside and how fricking cold the water was. It certainly deserves it's name! I seem to also remember the Brazilian real being about 2-1 U.S., not 5-1 as you mention, but my memory might be muddled. Also was in Angra Dos Reis (I think there was a nuclear power plant near there) and Rio itself, of course, one of the world's most physically beautiful cities.
Chris, you are such a lovely man. Your demeanor is so calm and laid back, it's really a joy to listen to you, and your lovely wife, Carol, is so sweet and adoring. I wish you both a wonderful happy marriage to each other while you are young, and these memories you have will make your marriage strong as you grow old together. I just wanted to tell you that. I loved hearing Carol say that about the music. I am born in Arizona but of Mexican parents and married now to a German. Mexican people also blast music allllll the time. Its almost like they lack self awareness or consideration for others. It drives me crazy. To my husband it's loud noise and he doesn't understand why they aren't respectful of others when they blast it. Idk either. I want to hide under tables and shrink in my seat when I realize it's my people that brought the loud noise and don't care about the enjoyment of others...😂

The area you crossed to go to the island is a canal. Not a river. I'm from Cabo Frio, you really made me homesick. My father is a Fishman and we used to cross oftem to the island. But ther is an area on the other side that when the tide is low you can cross by foot!
Our paths have crossed again! At Ilha do Japones I ran over the anchor line of the boat I was driving. That was only kinda semi-cool.😊 Apart from that nothing but good memories of the dunes, the beaches and the Jacuzzi in the room of our Pousada in Arraial. Anytime again. Thanks for bringing back the memories .😊

I've been living in Rio for 6 years and Cabo frio IMHO is over rated. It was expensive for hotels, restaurants, services for visitors was really bad, and overcrowded. There are so many places in Rio that I prefer like Angra, the beaches in Zona Oeste like Grumari and Barra de Guaratiba.
