I’m calling it: This is the best channel on RUclips. Thank you for reminding me why I fell in love with music theatre in the first place. And thank you for being the best entertainment during this whole ordeal.
How in the entire fuck does she do it???? These are lyrics everyone seeing this (both here and in that audience) has heard 100s of times before.... and I am laughing as if it's the first time! This woman is a GD genius. Man, I wish she'd come back to Broadway.
I yield to no one my love for Angela Lansbury but Ms Baranski gets mileage out of Mrs Lovett that even she overlooked. There are details in this rendition of Mr Sondheim's delicious song I never noticed until now.
She's MILES ABOVE this Annaleigh bozo we have now on Broadway. She keeps her voice the exact same the same way through, like someone in an audition trying to sing it completely even voiced and boring
She’s so great! And in a way what she’s doing is unexpected and I guess what I mean by that is she doesn’t seem like Christine Baranski playing Mrs. Lovett she just seems like Mrs. love it! If that makes any sense? I also love how she switches from her chest to head voice to a more mixed, breathy register It’s more seamless than the wonderful Dame Lansbury‘s. The blocking/musical staging really mined the comedy for this and I love it!
What an amazing performance this is! She is completely in character throughout the entire song and honestly she sings circles around Patti Lupone and Angela Lansbury, seamlessly moving from a gutsy chest voice to brassy mixed voice to lovely head voice.
I agree - and I saw the original Broadway production with Angela Lansbury... The jokes and double entendres go by so fast, but Baranski gets across several that the other actresses miss - character, voice, diction, timing - I am very impressed! And yes, I laughed out loud even though I know the show....
Thank you so much for this! I remember watching this in KC & was floored at how great her performance was & is, to-date, my fave portrayal of Mrs. Lovett live 🙂💜
A customer! Wait! What's your rush? What's your hurry? You gave me such a... fright! I thought you was a ghost! Half a minute, can't ya sit? Sit ya down! Sit! All I meant is that I haven't seen a customer for weeks. Did ya come here for a pie, sir? Do forgive me if my head's a little vague. Ugh! What is that? But you'd think we had the plague. From the way that people keep avoiding! No you don't! Heaven knows I try, sir! But there's no one comes in even to inhale! Right you are, sir, would you like a drop of ale? Mind you I can hardly blame them! These are probably the worst pies in London. I know why nobody cares to take them! I should know! I make them! But good? No The worst pies in London Even that's polite! The worst pies in London! If you doubt it take a bite! Ugh! Is that just, disgusting? You have to concede it! It's nothing but crusting! Here drink this, you'll need it. The worst pies in London And no wonder with the price of meat what it is when you get it. Never thought I'd live to see the day. Men'd think it was a treat findin' poor animals what are dyin' in the street. Mrs. Mooney has a pie shop. Does a business, but I notice something weird. Lately, all her neighbors cats have disappeared. Have to hand it to her! What I calls, enterprise! Poppin' pussies into pies! Wouldn't do in my shop! Just the thought of it's enough to make you sick! And I'm telling you them pussycats is quick. No denying times is hard, sir! Even harder than the worst pies in London. Only lard and nothing more- Is that just revolting? All greasy and gritty? It looks like it's molting! And tastes like...we'll pity. A woman alone...with limited wind And the worst pies in London! Ah, sir Times is hard. Times is hard.
Is Christine Baranski playing Mrs Lovett the same as her 1999 incarnation in this video or doing something similar to Patti LuPone who plays two different versions of Mrs Lovett? I notice the hair is the same for Baranski in 1999 and 2002, but from the videos I've seen the costumes are different, which might be due to different songs in each video but it might be the same version of the character with different clothing through each production.
She's the most beautiful voiced one of them all, and the variation is phenomenal. Comic, crass, beautiful, tragic, everything. Staunton was too gruff, Angela is perfect, Emma Thompson phenomenal but not as good of a singer as Christine. And Annaleigh Ashford - garbage.
She makes smart acting choices. But I always experience her as bland. Even banal. Relying on some charm tricks. But never a living breathing sentient being. And I do admire her craft.

Thank you so much.
aurora spiderwoman please tell me you do trades because I would love to see a whole recording of some of your videos.
AAAAAAAMEN
Christine Baranski is SUCH an underrated actress. She's fantastic!
She nailed this. And this is a tough one to perform. Wow.
This woman just radiates charisma

I like her version the best. There is just the right amount of comedy and tragedy! You laugh and you feel for her!
She's MILES ABOVE this Annaleigh bozo we have now on Broadway. She keeps her voice the exact same the same way through, like someone in an audition trying to sing it completely even voiced and boring

I love how smoky her low notes are!
This is the best version by far the comic timing is impeccable.
She’s just such a good actress

She's just fucking brilliant, extraordinary
I had no idea she played this role at some point! She’s one of my favorite actresses! Brilliant! I would have loved to see this whole production!!!
What a gift!! Thank you as always!
Wasn’t she the stepmother in the Into the Woods movie and Mary Sunshine in Chicago and Martha May in the Grinch movie
Yes! Her name is Christine Baranski and she is amazing!
And a dynamo in MAMMA MIA movie and Leonards mum in BIG BANG THEORY
She was also Robin Williams' ex in The Bird Cage. Enormous talent.
she's also the goblin(?) chef in trolls
I first knew her as Maryann, Cybil Shepard's best friend on the sitcom Cybil in the 90s. She was also in the movie Jeffrey. She is Wonderful! 🎉
omg thank you so so much for uploading this. anything more will always be appreciated. ❤️❤️❤️
Stunning!
Thank you so much for this! I remember watching this in KC & was floored at how great her performance was & is, to-date, my fave portrayal of Mrs. Lovett live 🙂💜
PLEASE COME TO BROADWAY IF IT EVER OPENS AGAIN!
My God so effortless!
Es increíblemente talentosa, digna de admirar, Christine es y va a ser siempre mi actriz favorita, su trabajo es impecable.
Why does no one ever do Lansbury's grunts as they're kneeding the dough when that's so funny?
oh my gosh this is fantastic!!!
I didn't know she could sing so well!
You should see her in Mamma Mia!
@jekenzeR I did that's why I didn't know she could sing so well, Mama Mia was dreadful.
Literally one of the BEST versions of Mrs. Lovitts
She is Fantastic
Please tell me there’s a full video of this. I would die for the whole recording.
Billy Smith I second that.
Same here. I'd really love to see the whole show.
I 3rd it and I would go 1 further and say i'd kill for it too.
The time they must have spent getting the motions of her hitting the dough lined up with the beat is probably crazy lol.
my favorite version among others
A customer!

Never thought I'd live to see the day.
Men'd think it was a treat

Mrs. Mooney has a pie shop.
Does a business, but I notice something weird.
Lately, all her neighbors cats have disappeared.
Have to hand it to her!
What I calls,
enterprise!
Poppin' pussies into pies!
Wouldn't do in my shop!
Just the thought of it's enough to make you sick!

another piece of gold. Is there any of Brian doing Sweeney?
If Katya Zamolodchikova were to do a musical
She's HYSTERICAL 😂😂😂
I've never laughed hard for this version. She did well
She is such a perfect Ms Lovett
Diane Lockhart, what have they done to you?!
Just kidding, lol. What a gift this is.
Martha-May Who fell on hard times
I see you are a man of CULTURE

She played alongside Frasier and now...CAM WIIIIINSTOON???
SHES CYOOT!
Christine has to be the best Lovett (she will be the best... untill the day when Bernadette Peters will play this role)
If Carol Burnette did real Broadway, it'd be her. Lol
Aurora Spiderwoman = best RUclipsr in the history of RUclipsrs
Help, why do I see Katya Zamolodchikova doing this sksksks
Is Mrs. Lovett about to say "shitty" or "kitty"?
It never occurred to me that it could be 'kitty', that's great!
Look at that! Agnes van Rhijn can sing!
does she say 'Guest' instead of 'Ghost' ?
A fav actress doing a fav song. Just wish we could hear better audio / visual. With pro sound engineer. Orchestra buries her.
She looks like Cheryl Hines
not bad, but Julia McKenzie's interpretation is much better
She's the most beautiful voiced one of them all, and the variation is phenomenal. Comic, crass, beautiful, tragic, everything. Staunton was too gruff, Angela is perfect, Emma Thompson phenomenal but not as good of a singer as Christine. And Annaleigh Ashford - garbage.
Nope.
She makes smart acting choices. But I always experience her as bland. Even banal. Relying on some charm tricks. But never a living breathing sentient being. And I do admire her craft.
She's too American for this part.
huh?
