My Vauxhall gtc is running great at moment but rac man came read code. It said fuel Trim lean. Engine light came back on again after 2 miles. He did say to me that I really can't sort it out untill I see problems with car. At my local garage. But hope my fix is easy as yours. On the video
This code can also be intermittent, so a short test drive won't show if it's resolved immediately. Had the same issues on an astra J, A14XER engine. You need to consider the fuel trims after replacing to see if they have settled down to specification, both long and short term fuel trims should be around zero, the long trim takes longer to settle. The code only sets if the short term fuel trim goes above 10% at least 3 times I believe.
Thanks Kevin for your feedback, it was the short term fuel trim that indicated there was an air leak prior to investigating the fault to repair. Fuel trim is a whole new topic, most people who watch these videos use a code scanner with no actual live data or the understanding of fuel trim. Thanks again for your feedback it may help others 🙂👍
@@melsmotors thanks for your response. My comment was more to help others maybe not so familiar with fuel trims. Purge valves seem to be a regular issue, and your video shows the sure fire way, using smoke to diagnose a vacuum leak or problem with the PCV, so very well explained.
I think I might have the same issue, Z14XEP Astra H 1.4, P170, on idle MAF shows only 4.5 kg/h air intake (read somewhere way to low value) so it takes it from somewhere else, from fuel tank maybe. I will try to turn the engine on and open the file cap, if there is suction them I guess I have the culprit. One I must admit, crappy cars these are. All the time something's go wrong with them
Looks like a common problem with corsas I can relate to a lot of the comments. Garages can’t find the issues but still charge for work that might fix it and the RAC not helping. Problem keeps happening and also told to use the most expensive petrol
very nice video. i have same problem my mechanic told me i have to replace my zafira tourer 2017 1.4 Turbo Inlet Manifold Evaporation Purge Control Valve. how can i check myself if is working or need replacing? it say fuel system trim lean. any help thanks
That is a possibility, the manifolds do fail on those. Do the blow test through the valve first, if you can blow through it, then it's the cause. It could be the intake manifold or the diaphragm in the cam cover!
HI, you need to contact a local garage to carry out some diagnostic investigations! If you're local we can help, you can contact us through our website 👍
Hi Alberto, what's the oil got to do with it? This issue on this particular car was just a parts failure! Not oil related at all! I don't understand your mechanics logic. Most Vauxhall's use DEXOS 2 oil, check your owners handbook and use that oil. Take care out there 👍😊
Hi, I’ve got the same fault on my car but no EML light. Just keep getting a service vehicle soon message every now and then. I’m trying to remove the valve from my car to test it but the thing won’t come off, any advice?
It’s the green clip to the pipe I couldn’t get off. Given up now. I tried blowing into the pipe that was connected through the rubber seal and couldn’t get any air through, don’t know if that’s a sign that the valve isn’t faulty or if I needed to get it fully off to get a proper verdict
@@melsmotors yeah I’m going to take it in to the garage today anyways. Got a couple other codes that’s coming up as well as this ; Fan circuit faulty sensor & AC Compressor malfunction 🤣 going to be a long day
Hi Mark, don't just change the valve without testing it first, blow through it! If you can smell oil it wouldn't be this valve! These also suffer with the diaphragm failing in the cam cover, that may give you the scent of oil 🛢️ good luck 🤞
Mine engine lights on dash board for few months i Took to garage they said fuel lean but after I took to other garage they couldn’t fixed it and they said fine it’s normal because exhaust external
😂 Some garages make me laugh! You either have an intake leak after the air flow meter (if you have an airflow meter) or just a general intake leak, either split hose, intake manifold gasket, split breather diaphragm, air leak from injector seals, cracked intake manifold, faulty solenoids, or it could be an exhaust leak before the O2 sensors, gasket, cracked manifold or pipe, broken flexi pipe, etc. Both these types of leaks will give you a lean code! You will need to investigate the problem, you will need a smoke machine for small and hidden leaks. The computer is saying there's a problem, you just need to find a good mechanic to find it!!

I got astra H 1.4 16v. My car has very little engine braking and sounds very quiet. I can hear whinning noise under the car when its in gear driving. When I press the clutch whinning goes away. Also when I pour gasoline nozzle keeps shutting off. Car sounds so quiet like engine is not getting enough air and when accelarating sometimes it feels forced. Also sometimes i get blue smoke on startup only. My question is how do I fix car to get more engine braking and more louder cause I know its not supoose to be like that. I know it can be multiple problems but what is the biggest one that makes my car have almost none engine braking
