Aprilia RS660 Mod Upgrades Pt4
Hi guys, welcome back to my channel!
This is the continuation of part 2 & 3.
I'm excited to share with you a video that has been a year in the making! As you know, I've been riding my Suzuki GSXR600 for a few years now. But earlier this year, the bike broke down at Anglesey Race Circuit, BIG TIME, which forced me to get my Aprilia RS660 blinged up for track use.
I hit a few snags along the way, it felt like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole (or in this case, trying to make sense of Chinese instructions!). But I had some great friends who helped me get the bike ready for Almeria in Spain. I'm so happy to say that the bike performed flawlessly, and I had a blast riding it.

Just to give you a translation of those Chinese words on dials. Left speedo, if you pass 40, it wishes you a safe trip, hence the words are " nice guy, hope you are safe for life". Giving the video is about the dodgy brake, those words are just what the driver needs. Right one is the electric charge dial, red is the charging zone, green is the running zone, words in centre means "Green, environmental friendly". Google translate sometimes is as dodgy as that brake.
@@cookaride2307 that's funny, thanks for the insight, this isn't a vehicle for the road thankfully, it's a static coffee and cakes retailer. 👍🙂
@@melsmotors no, they are not made for road use. cycling lane is probably the best they can do. this is basically a shed conversion of an electric bike, and it's not even a good electric bike to start with. they made these as a cheap neighbourhood runabout especially for old people to go to market or kerbside vendors and local couriers to transport goods.
@@melsmotors and they are cheap. something like this one would be selling for 3000 yuan or less in China when new, which is about 300 pounds. they do make good quality ones, mostly for farm use that have a payload of a small pickup truck with proper brakes, for about 1000 pounds. Still cheap.
@cookaride2307 Seen them in the movies as parcel and food delivery trucks. This is definitely a £300 truck 👍

@@chrisreeves8402 as long as they're all setup the same it's okay. It's not unusual for the seals to leak, especially if you use E10 fuel, try and use E5 only 👍🙂

Hi thks for the video. It's very informative. Can you please give us a feedback on this repair? Is the gearbox still running without the shiming?
@@fifoud4232 yes the car is still running without re-shimming
These occupancy sensors are to detect the weight of the person and if they are under a certain weight, I believe 40kg or empty, then the airbag won't deploy as it may cause harm to the person. Above 40kg it deploys. Someone under 40kg probably shouldn't be in the front seat. But the quick and cheap fix is buy a bypass dongle for about £8 via eBay which plugs into the connector under the rear of the seat (instead of the occupancy sensor connector) to basically tell the car there's someone sitting in the seat. As long as you can reset the airbag light yourself or have someone do it, then problem solved.
@@paulnoakes7435 thanks for your input, sadly that's not a proper fix, when it comes to airbag issues you don't want to guess if it may work to save someone's life!
@@melsmotors It will tell the car there is someone there, whether there is or isn't anyone sitting in the seat, so in the event of an accident it will always deploy the airbag. I fixed mine correctly which was better than the previous owner who had removed the dashboard display and covered over the airbag light in order to deceive mot testers. Now that's unsafe! So be wary someone hasn't done that previously.
Great to see you don't always need the specialists to fix your life... all you need is someone willing to teach and someone willing to learn and have ago. Great video mate

My Mrs fiesta went into low boost and engine light came on the dash, took it to ford they put it on a diagnostic test and said it had this n that wrong with it. Well done for working out how to work on this quirky little car! Rear brake cylinder seizing is very common on the M3W due to corrosion. When fitting the replacement cylinder, it's a good idea to smear some red rubber grease around the piston ends (under the rubber boots) to help prevent reoccurrence.
The crank pulley have a specific position for . I mean rotate in some position? I changed the seal 2 times because bad seal...with first seal engine run perfect balanced but leak seal... second seal no leak but engine vibrates a little but annoying...
Great work Mel. Makes you wonder why glow plug manufacturers don't make the plugs with slots ready cut in the threaded part? A friend just took a Ford Focus to be serviced, and the mechanics managed to break off all four glow plugs that they said needed changing. They now want an extra €1.200 to make good their work which they'd quoted €400 for. Do the glow plugs work every time you start the car? If not, with winter temperatures here rarely going below +5 degrees C, then perhaps they don't need changing as often anyway? Wish there was a local Mels Motors here!

Also the first clutch fiction plate behind the pressure plate is offset one tooth in the clutch basket. I'm unsure why Yamaha do this however I think this was missed in this video. If you check the before disassembly & after assembly. I've now done this job now a few times.
Yes I know, it was in very early comment, that was sorted a week later, well spotted though!
You should never ever use engine flush on a ecoboost! The flush will rot the belt VERY fast and block the oil pickup pipe! My heart sank after a great video explaining the vacuum system issue, when you said you flushed the engine! Also the vacuum pump is fine, its a diaphragm in the black bit you put the vacuum pipe onto the pump that fails. A £5 5mm external non return valve inline on the pipe will fix it.
@@8skellerns nonese buddy! These strainers block regardless of flush, we use BG flush which is safe for wet belts, unless you're saying you know a little more than a large conglomerate like BG! Why on earth would you do a £5 repair on a crucial part like a vacuum pump? This is a vital component for your brakes! Everyone has their own way of repairing things, some go cheap and some do it right! Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
If the compressor is at fault, why doesn’t the rear do the same?
@@Cuzzazbuzz I have another Bentley in now, front dropped and rear up, it's just the way they fail!
GD... What's the timing order, and if u have to do a change of head joint, do the engine have to be taken down ????
The timing order is 1-2, there's only 2 cylinders and I've never replaced a head gasket on one of these. I would start at the rear header nuts, if they break, then the engine has to come as you'll never get the broken studs out whilst in the frame! hope this helps
@melsmotors thanks for sharing too...
Your video manual saved me. Thank you very very much. Great work 👍💪

10/10 video! I want to learn as much about my Fireblade as possible and this goes to the top of the list!
Impressive bit of tech repair. A bit beyond my skill set, though. My wife's 2002 has a bad fuel gauge and the info display has lost segments. Really sad part is that we haven't really used this car since 2015, and at that time everything still worked perfectly, but the wife didn't want to sell her "little car", as she only drove the Ford Explorer. Keep the car in the garage. Trickle charge on the battery, once a month drive a few miles then back into the garage. Once a year state inspection and renew registration. Fuel gauge failure was five years ago, but the info screen still showed miles to empty. Now the info screen is essentially gone. Two lessons here. One, if you don't use a car, don't keep it. We could have gotten a decent price if we had sold it in 2015, but now the dash will scare people away and probably cost as much to repair as we could sell it for! Second lesson: Don't buy a product of Volkswagen-Porsche-Audi. My 2000 Subaru with 235k miles still runs perfectly. Everything works.
Im an Agricultural mechanic Chains on cars might not stretch but chains on a forklift lifting masts do stretch as we have a stretch gauge for when we service the forklift to make sure its safe to use so i know it has nothing to do with timing chains but yes you can stretch a chain .
@@g.a.f3398 thanks for the info, but they don't stretch on cars and bikes as the loads are a lot, lots less than the lifting force if a fork lift. Every day's a school day 😁
