@skatpak 2 My gran always served baked potatoes with butter and sour cream with her meatloaf! And that's a big yes on the meatloaf sandwiches the next day! I like mine sliced thin on white sandwich bread with mayo. Yum!

That's what I thought as well. Especially their first experience trying it should have been served the way most everyone eats it so they get the full experience. I have never seen anyone serve it by itself with ketchup and a drop of coriander. What a shame.

I still do what my dad did it would freeze chili after he made it in ice trays and then pop them out and put them in bags and then pull out a couple whenever he would want a bowl of chili. I still do it to this day.
Not to brag, but they would love my homemade meat loaf with mashed taters, gravy and all the other sides I make with it. All from scratch. My husband's Irish and he literally would have tears in his eyes while enjoying all of it. That made it worth all the time in the kitchen for me! I love these videos!

mix very lean hamburger with club house meatloaf seasoning, lots of it, otherwise its very greasy n not great, eat with ketchup n onions n potatoes.

I just made meatloaf for dinner last night! Lol. It's called Meat Loaf because it is baked in a loaf pan, like bread is cooked in. It should have garlic in it. Salt, black pepper, Worsteshire sauce, ketchup, garlic, onion, bread crumbs (my preference) or saltines or oats, and an egg all mixed together and formed into a loaf. It's quick, easy, and a delicious comfort food.
I use my homemade Worcestershire sauce, which is a bit thick and not runny like most, and because I can't eat tomatoes, I add hoisin sauce and sometimes a little soy sauce
Love meatloaf with oatmeal because it makes the texture nice and grainy. Makes for great sandwiches on multigrain bread (which my friend calls rock & twig bread). 😂

Gotta love a good meatloaf! Add some mashed potato's with a lot of butter & corn. YUM! And cold meatloaf sandwiches the next day are great as well.

I made my famous brown sugar glazed meatloaf for dinner last night. We have it at least twice a week because everyone loves it so much and leftovers are the best!! ❤

Meatloaf in the US is always eaten with potatoes and gravy, some type of vegetable or salad. This makes a full meal. If you use a little stale bread soaked in milk then put in meat with onions and bellpepper with the spices ,you enjoy as a family, then you can make it your own.
Oh forgot the egg too. And you can use crackers too soaked in a little milk. This way it doesn't make it too dry.
Meatloaf is one of those dishes that started as a cheap way to stretch food supplies. In the case, the bread crumbs and egg make it fluffy and take on the taste of the meat.
When my family ate Meatloaf green beans and creamy mashed potatoes always accompanied the meatloaf.
I use diced onions, bell peppers, crushed garlic, onion and garlic powder also, salt pepper and put bbq sauce on it.
There are as many recipes for meatloaf as people who make it. I've had it made with oatmeal, soda crackers bread crumbs and corn flakes, the ingredients that are added to the mix is different in some ways I like to add chopped tomatoes in mine also celery, carrots,onions, garlic and ketchup. I have eaten it with corn mixed into it too. Meatloaf originated during the depression and ww2 to conserve meat as it was rationed. So that there was plenty to send to our troops. Almost always served with potatoes and a pan gravy and vegetables from your victory garden.
As somebody English i only recently tried meatloaf for the first time, i'm a fan of beef so no surprise i liked itwe had it served with potatoes and veg, i will make it,sometime.
Everyone makes meatloaf a little different. Some add bread crumbs. Some add chopped vegetables. Some use rice. Some use it all.
When you have a good, restaurant style meatloaf with gravy, that's one of the best meals ever!

Simmer the ketsup with brown sugar and wosreshire sauce to add 15-20 minutes prior to it being done for the best glaze.

I make meatloaf based on a recipe my grandmother got off a bottle of Heinz ketchup about 70 years ago! It's not the exact recipe because my grandmother tweaked it I also roast potatoes with my meatloaf with the pan covered.

I've modified mine off the recipe on the Saltines box. Do you have Saltines there? Replace the pepper with ginger, teriyaki instead of Worcestershire, chicken broth instead of milk. I used pork sausage, but turkey sausage worked well with beef also. Use a large casserole bordered by oiled potatoes. Cook longer depending on potatoes. I do NOT use ketchup on mine. Enjoy😉.
@@umerhashmi7603 for every pound of hamburger I use a handful of old fashioned oats, a tablespoon of ketchup, a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, a quarter teaspoon of oregano, a half teaspoon of basil, salt & pepper, a generous dusting of onion powder. For every 2 lb of hamburger mixture I use one egg & a quarter cup milk. Add salt & pepper to your taste. After mixing, shape into an even looking loaf. I also will rub into my gloved hands kitchen bouquet and rub down the outside of the meatloaf for it. I sear it on 500° for 15 minutes. I take it out after searing to add an inch of boiling hot water & turn the oven temp to 350° for an hour. Longer if you have used more than 2 lbs. If you're going to roast potatoes then cut them evenly and put around the meatloaf after you've added the boiling water. Dust the potatoes lightly with paprika, put a lid on the pan and put back in the oven for 1 hour. You can put some bouillon in the meatloaf water if you want.
This is one of those dishes more commonly eaten in poorer households, as by adding a buttload of bread to the meat makes it seem like you have more meat. Also every household will make it a little different from another. I've tasted many meatloafs in my day, and without sounding weird, my mom's is the best.

Meatloaf is meat, )mom used ground beef, pork and veal) with pieces of torn up milk-soaked bread with spices made in a LOAF pan, as in bread loaf. I use beef and pork with mild soaked garlic croutons and spices. I hated moms meatloaf (the poor dog ate so much of it lol) until I got older and then it was my favorite she would make when I would come home. Also never put any sauce or tomato sauce on it.
Meatloaf topped with a rich brown beef gravy is best to me with buttery thick real mashed potatoes on the side is the way to go like my mother and her mothers did before me... The ketchup topping is a No No around here...Period.

Meatloaf goes one of two ways. It's either great or you end up hating it. You never want to make it too dense or too dry
Ugh. Meatloaf is not like pizza. If it's bad, you will not want to eat it anyway that is for sure! Even the dog will say: what did you do to this poor animal? And yet good meatloaf is so delicious. I may need to make one.
That is so true. I have an absolutely amazing recipe for meatloaf. When we have guests I tell them I’m making meatloaf for dinner and they’ll often grimace but remain polite. But then they’ll eat it and say something like, “I was dreading it but this is great!”

I like bell peppers cooked in mine.
Be an American Italian, just before it’s done cooking we take it out and put slices of cheese on top and a can of tomato sauce and pop it back in for a few minutes to melt the cheese. Whole different thing without gravy.
Best served with mashed potatoes and gravy 😋

Hi! I live in America in the mid west and we do use red peppers here. There is hot red peppers and there is sweet red bell peppers or mini bell peppers that we call sweet peppers. We love garlic, onions, salt, black pepper, green and red bell peppers in our meat loaf and ate that for dinner 2 days ago with mashed potatoes and mixed roasted veggies . 😊

I'd love to see a little cooking class where these gentlemen learn how to make some of the foods they've enjoyed. Meatloaf is one of those dishes that don't require anything they would have difficulty finding in rural Pakistan. They can use any bread for the breadcrumbs, including the flatbreads they normally eat.

Loaf is a word to describe the shape in which the meat is formed and baked in.
Meatloaf is tasty. I made meatloaf once. Instead of making the mixture into a loaf, I made it into patties. I had them like regular hamburgers. Everyone liked them.
That's how hamburgers are made in Canada they call it a homeburger.
We shaped them like little oval patties, served em with onion gravy and called them "hamburger steaks"
I sometimes just make patties.

Meat Cake, probably the most accurate description of Meat loaf i have ever seen
I make meatloaf with dried bread crumbs or saltines, green peppers, onions, egg, salt, pepper, sometimes a little Worcestershire and a little tomato sauce mixed all together, then top it with tomato sauce. I never use ketchup. Mashed potatoes and a vegetable are must haves with it. Meatloaf sandwiches are next day favorite!

It's 2023, now you can just get a McCormick meatloaf seasoning pack... add your diced green peppers and diced onions with the egg, worstercher sauce and crackers AND ITS SOOOO GOOD... Make your gravy for the top and you're good No ketchup or tomato sauce though 🤢

I wonder what their cook used as the filler. Our traditional filler was crushed saltines, but I've eaten it from someone who used crushed cornflakes. I've resorted to using dry oatmeal. Add the 1 egg, worchestershire, a bit of salt & black pepper. Haven't made it for awhile, but just bought hamburger so this is a reminder that I could make a loaf pan of meatloaf...very timely episode today!
I grew up with my Mom making it with oatmeal & that's generally how I still make it. 😁
My mom made it with saltines as well. She still does. I tried it using bread crumbs once. It was good but was denser.
Wife says she made it one time using vanilla wafer ice cream cones crushed up.

Just a note, the loaf comes from the pan it's normally baked in, as in a loaf of bread. My mother always used a combo of rice and oats as the binder, IMHO it works best.
My dad used rolled oats when there were no bread crumbs.He made them from homemade bread that got too dry or leftover rolls,he disliked the canned ones.
My mom used 'quick oats' which isn't instant but isn't regular (long cooking).

meatloaf has to be served as a sandwich if you are eating alone (usually the leftovers the next day). meatloaf with roast potatoes or mashed potatoes if for family/guests, and definitely gravy and a side of greens.

Not a fan of ketchup on meatloaf either. Bacon is wonderful cooked on it though. I know that these gentlemen can't eat pork due to their religion but they can have other types of bacon. I ave to watch my salt intake but all the other ingredients you listed are wonderful in a meatloaf. Definitely mashed potatoes with gravy and gray on the meatloaf too!
I do love meatloaf..bit you have to get the cooking of it spot on or you end up with a dry horrible thing that you just won't want to eat.

Did you know we also had a singer here called Meatloaf? lol I like my meatloaf with potatoe salad, macaroni salad, and coleslaw. Pickles and a hunk of cheese. or loaded lettuce salad with broccoli, cauliflower, cheese, onion, peppers, jalepeno and bacon.
Cold meatloaf makes a fantastic sandwich the next day.
WHO has ketchup with Meat Loaf?
They kept saying it looks like cake, it looks like a loaf of bread, hence the name, you should've shown them a loaf of bread to explain that
Us has sizes of pans or container to create the Loaf shape. Similar to cake mixes that are baked in a loaf pan, or round cake pans. You may show photos of US cookware pans, skillets, cake pans variety is sizes, shapes!
I see by it its not as moist as what I make. I use onions, green peppers, mushrooms, raw eggs, garlic, salt and pepper and most important sage. I would not recommend bread crumbs. And make my own ketchup sauce recipe to coat the top prior to cooking. The trick is to make small complete meat loaf oval shaped stand alone loafs. Stays moist and would not look like a dry brick as these do. I have won cook offs with my meatloaf. My meatloaf would blow these guys mind.
You should explain why things are called whatever they are called. This is called «Meat Loaf» because it is meat shaped like a loaf of bread! :)
Make these guys some Banana Bread or Zucchini Bread. Then, if your chef/baker is up to the challenge, make them some fresh toasted Bagels with Cream Cheese.
Meatloaf is indeed most commonly served with ketchup but I prefer it with brown gravy atop mashed potatoes.
Meatloaf can be served three ways. Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. Meatloaf with shells and cheese or as a sandwich. Also it's good with or without BBQ sauce.
Serve a side to go with the meat. Mashed potatoes, rice or something and a drink to wash it down! Don't make them choke down food without a drink. At least some water.
My mother in law adds buttermilk to the pankos breading for moistness and I love it! Mashed potatoes with a brown gravy is required for this dish!
My Mother always poured Condensed Tomato Soup over the top and sides and then baked it. Yummy 😋
As many has said, meat loaf is usually served with mashed potatoes and gravy with a vegetable, and a dinner roll. And never that big of a slice. And of course, leftover meat loaf sandwiches with a little barbecue sauce.

Glad they like it but it really needs a sweet tomato/ketchup type sauce. With mashed potatoes is the best.

It surprises me how all 4 men tend to prefer mildly spiced dishes. None of them seem to go for very hot n spicey things with lots of chillies.
