In order to see the individual DNA strands, you would need to use a very expensive electron microscope
@@GluconeogenesisEvangelion true, but DNA has secondary structures that are occasionally visible under a microscope, such as chromosomes. I'd be curious to see what, if anything, is going on here.
@@mattdombrowski8435 yes, you're also right about that. I'm not sure structures such as chromatin stay intact in a method like this though
@@mattdombrowski8435 chromosomes are only visible in actively dividing cells and you would also need specific stains to see them, plus the DNA here isn't even pure so it would be even harder to visualize it under the microscope.

I don't know if you could see heterochromatin in this situation. I don't know what you could or could not see in this situation. That's why I would be curious to see.

@@atifbhore7740 in case you're still wondering, what you get from x-ray diffraction is not an image, but only a graphic showing you how the atoms are displaced inside the material, after a lot of boring analysis. Also, x-ray diffraction of biology samples is a lot more difficult than that of crystalline materials, like salt rock. I don't think you can actually see dna with a microscope, since it's a molecule, so it is reeeeeally small.

We did this experiment in school! But we used bananas because the teacher said strawberries are too expensive and there are bananas just in our school backyard. We also used detergent instead of soap so it was less slimy. It was really cool though, and when you add universal indicator to it, it turns bright red because the DNA is acidic!
